We ordered chopped steak and shrimp plate. I was a little disappointed because Kalbi sold out by the time we got there! Overall though food lived up to the legend. Steak was juicy, shrimp was very well cooked. Service was fast. There are seating tables outside the truck. Will be back!

The hype is REAL. We had been trying to come here for the past three years, but between the early closing time and things selling out fast, we somehow missed it every single trip. This year, we were determined to make it early enough to finally try the Bald Guy, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The food was honestly divine. We tried the pan-fried poke, kalbi beef, furikake crusted salmon, chopped steak, and spam musubi, and every single thing was incredible. It was so good that we ended up eating here twice during our trip. Also, special shoutout to the mac and cheese because WOW... it is ridiculously good. My personal favorites were the poke, chopped steak, and kalbi beef, but truly everything we ordered was amazing. The staff was also super kind and helpful with all our questions. Just a heads up, they do sell out of certain items before closing, so definitely try to get there earlier rather than later. Cannot wait to come back!

We finally got to try Da Bald Guy yesterday--this has been on our list for years, but we always seemed to miss them since they close at 2 PM. When we arrived, it was almost closing and everything was sold out except for the spicy pan-fried ahi poke. That actually worked out perfectly because it was exactly what we had been wanting to try. Oh wow--it did not disappoint. The flavors were bold, savory, and had just the right amount of spice. We took our food over to Kahuku Beer Garden and enjoyed it with some beers, and it honestly hit differently in the best way. Definitely worth planning ahead for next time so we can try more from their menu.

The peeled garlic butter shrimp ($20) from Da Bald Guy was one of the best bites I had during my recent trip to Honolulu. I love a good garlic shrimp, but I've only ever had it hot and thick on the sauce. At Da Bald Guy, such is not the case. For starters, the shrimp is peeled, leaving the actual shrimp itself to catch all the flavor. It's not heavily doused in sauce. Instead, the use of garlic butter is more intentional where you can taste the sweetness of the shrimp. Sensationally good. No notes. If you find yourself driving to the North Shore, do yourself a favor and stop by Da Bald Guys for their peeled garlic butter shrimp.

We just visited a tour from Kualoa Ranch and made a stop here as it was the midpoint to going to North Shore. It's located with a ton of other small trucks and eateries, so it's a nice pit stop just to wind down and relax! There's a convenient parking lot on the both sides of the whole area. When we visited around 1pm, it wasn't too crowded. More people waiting for their order and just 2 people ahead. The menu listed that they don't do combos anymore (sad!) and they ran out of galbi for the day. We really wanted to try the galbi! So we ordered the pan-fried poke, shrimp, and steak plates. It did take awhile for our order to be ready, since we were also killing time trying to find a table, find drinks nearby, etc. I mainly had the pan-fried poke which I do really enjoy the sauce, but I found it to be nothing too special. The idea of it sounds pretty neat, but I feel like the pan-fried poke was a bit too over done, it almost could have just been grilled fish at that point lol. The steak was pretty flavorful, and the shrimp had all the garlic bits that were pretty flavorful as well. The mac salad was also pretty nice, but pretty heavy and creamy. It is overall a heavy meal, which we all almost went into a food coma haha.

So much flavor, and very generous portion sizes. I love a limited menu that still offers a variety of choices. The shrimp was packed with flavor! Tons of seating was available at comfortable picnic style tables with umbrellas, also surrounded by shade trees as well.

My sister and I tried this food truck and got the 2 item combo. We had the boneless kalbi and the pan fried poke which i was kind of skeptical of the pan fried poke because I was scared the fish might be overcooked and the sauces will taste weird when it gets cooked but it was soooo delicious! The kalbi was so soft it literally melts and same as the pan fried poke. We shared the plate because it has really big portions but it came with Mac salad and rice as well. Service was fast and staff was friendly. They also have a couple benches for seating in front of their truck to eat. Couldn't forget about their kalbi of how soft and tender it was.

A must stop every time we visit Oahu! This time we were lucky to catch them twice at the pearlgate food truck event and at the usual spot in north shore. Only downfall of catching them at an event is the limited menu, which didn't have the Kalbi (our favorite), furikake crusted salmon (another fave) and the pan fried poke. We were in north shore and barely made the cut at 11am for the Kalbi and ordered the last 2 plates! Honestly everything is good, but my two favorites are the Kalbi & furikake crusted salmon. Both are always cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. Until next time!

So I have my favorites when visiting Oahu, and this is a must for me!!! Furikake crusted Salmon and kabli plate is fire. Must get extra sauce (and I like extra spice on mine too). The fish is so crispy even though it's drenched in sauce. Seasoned well, cooked perfectly, never dry and that crusty skin is tasty! Kalbi is tender and flavorful, with large potions. The bf and I share a plate and it's plenty for both of us. Everything is made to order and fresh, and they are quick to get your food to you. Ever since their Netflix special they are so popular, they sell out of the fish every day so make sure to get there by noon. Friendly staff and always so nice too! There's plenty of outdoor bench seating or you can take your food to the indoor beer garden for some shade. Plenty of little shops around to get some kick knacks too.

We got here at the start of lunch just after 11am. I don't think you can go wrong with Da Bald Guy anything. I was here before and had the kalbi beef. This time I wanted to try the garlic shrimp bc I've only heard good things. My niece and her boyfriend were visiting and I wanted them to experience this food truck. They ordered a combo plate with the garlic shrimp and steak. The food was delicious. They actually rated it the best meal that had while they were on the island. That should tell ya something. The shrimp were big and cooked perfectly. Seasoned to perfection. Just the right amount of garlic and the extra sauce made for the best rice. I was happy with the quantity of shrimp too. Definitely a worth it meal in my book. I also got a teriyaki spam musubi to try. Also good. I like how they wrapped it. Just a slight variation from the ones I typically eat. Will definitely be back. I still want to try the salmon. We got in line just at the right time bc when we turned to sit down after ordering there was a long line that had formed behind us. Our food got done quickly and we sat down at the picnic tables to enjoy it. It was busy so we shared a picnic table with another family. Hopefully you don't mind doing that bc space is often limited.

This was an alright plate for me. I'm not the biggest fan of garlic shrimp so maybe I should've gotten something else. The shrimp was super buttery and heavy, not my vibe. The garlic was good though. Also shrimp to rice ratio was way too off for me, had me eating spoonfuls of straight rice. The Mac salad is absolutely Gods gift to this green earth. Idk what's the special sauce in it but man it's so good. Creamy but not too heavy. Super good.

Some of the best plate lunches on the island! I try to stop by whenever they're at the What the Truck events at Waikele and Millilani. Service is usually quick but get there when they open to avoid lines. Must orders include the super tender Braised Boneless Kal Bi and the creamy and spicy Pan Fried Poke. I had to watch Netflix to find this guy. Where the heck was I??? I am a food food foodie! I'm picky. Pay attention to plating. Can determine different spices that are used and can truly appreciate a well made, aloha filled plate of food. Come see this guy. We tried his Kalbi. It is tender, juicy and filled with flavor. We also tried the fried poke plate. There was a "sweet" element to one of his sauces, but it was well made. My particular taste doesn't pair well with poke, but my son loved it. Both items were very well received. Oh, and I have to mention his Mac salad. It had flavor and character beyond just mayo and pepper. It reminded me of plate lunch back in the day when more attention was given to this plate lunch component. So very ono. He's smart. Keeps the menu simple and treats everyone like a friend. He's the kinda guy you'd like to hang out with. Braddah, you do food! Dad, how's your son? He's one good guy and we're looking forward to going back again. UiHaaaaa! read more

The food is amazing- we had the spam and eggs, steak and Mac salad, and the sausage and eggs and it was all amazing. It's in a cute food tuck location and the coffee across the way was . There's not a ton of seating but we got a nice picnic bench and it was great! The workers are kind and engaging and it was a great experience! read more

So I knew about this place for a long time but never went because I live in town and I was like " one hour drive for a plate lunch, hell no". Then the GF and I saw the Netflix episode and figured we'd go play tourist, drive out to Kahuku and try DBG. It was a really good plate lunch. Positives: My GF always complains that most places don't peel their shrimp and DBG has Peeled butter garlic shrimp, yay! The boneless Kalbi is great. It was like kalbichim without the soup. So tender and tasty. I can't think of any food truck or take out place that does boneless kalbi like this. Mac salad is also good. Not sure what is in it but it has a unique flavor to it. Negatives: It was only 11:15 and the chopped steak, fresh fish and Cajun shrimp were sold out already so you might want to go early to make sure you get what you want. If you are a tourist and staying in Waikiki this is a very long drive so you should plan on making this a day trip and seeing other things on that side of the island. Also most plates are $16 but the 2 choice plate goes up to $22. Considering inflation at the time of this post I'd say it's a fair price but just want to warn others so they don't get sticker shock. read more

Ok ordered 4 plates 1 spicy shrimp they say 11 pcs we counted 7, 3 combo plates 2 were chopped steak and butter shrimp steak was supposed to have caramelized onions but all we got were green onions guess they forgot to buy regular onions I know I know onions aren't cheap but if you're going to charge $25 for a combo plate then stick to the menu or change the menu descriptions. Buttered garlic and shrimp nothing special only average. Salmon Furikake was average too yes it was combo salmon and spicy shrimp paid $95 was hungry and was excited due to all the reviews and the Netflix documentary. On TV you see lots of food on the plate but in reality you're saying I paid how much for this hmmm but at least I tried it out and the drive was a nice road trip anyway. Not too sure what people are tasting when they are eating. But the food was not worth $20 a plate. The Kalbi while soft, lacked flavor. The garlic for the shrimp was sour. The pan fried poke was soft but again lacking flavor. I was hoping for an amazing experience but that I did not get. Don't know if the demand due to it being featured on a Netflix documentary caused this food truck to not focus on quality. But $160 later I gotta say, I won't be spending money here again. read more

I feel like we use this business as an excuse to go to Kahuku 15 miles away. He always has tasty, moist Kalbi. Everyone in this food truck is friendly and they enjoy seeing their customers happy after a meal. The portions are perfect! read more

One of the places we were most excited to visit during our trip to North Shore and it delivered! They were out of a couple of things we were hoping to try, but I suppose that's a good sign and indicative of the quality and popularity of the food. My son and I had the kiawe bacon and eggs (both over white rice - who knew?!?) and they were fantastic. I had a side of grilled SPAM teri furikake style - AWESOME! My other son tried the kalbi beef with eggs and rice and said it was fantastic. We couldn't have been happier with our food and the service. read more

The people inside stay local and stay friendly! Which is really nice as food trucks continue to proliferate Hawaii. I came on a recommendation from a sistah from anotha mistah, Ms. Marlene who works at Turtle Bay and told me this place is bomb dot com. 'The boneless short rib OMG' she kept telling me. The experience felt really local. The location is in a nice little alcove of the Kahuku Sugar Mill, a once barren area is now home to a few nice little food spots. Its quaint and it feels very local and not overburdened with tourist driven BS like the Giovanni food truck area. The food was good -- the boneless short ribs were super on point. I dock one star only because I think the rice could have been fluffier, and the mac salad wasn't my favorite. But it wasn't bad. Overall, I would come back here and I appreciate their menu as it just really is very... local! read more

Really good double plate of shrimp and kalbi beef over rice. lOVED the Mac salad, very different. Shrimp cooked perfectly and beef was fall-off-the-fork tender. Excellent, and lots of garlic. My husband and I split this for lunch, perfect! Would come back in a heartbeat, but it's a long way from Boston! read more

Everything that we've eaten here the past week has been very good. The way the salmon was prepared, was probably the best tasting piece of salmon that I've had. I'm kind of a Mac salad snob and like mine traditionally with more mayo. Good friendly service. I would definitely recommend this place. To bad they aren't open for dinner. read more

Amazing food and even better service! Our family started off coming to this place back when it was Two Bald Guys at the local convenient store. Same great taste at the new location with is great as it's with all the other food trucks!! My go to is the Ahi plate....you can't beat it. I honestly never write reviews but was blown away by Da Bald Guy. First of all their food is so unique and flavorful. We got the pan seared poke and crusted salmon and they were incredible. Honestly the best salmon I've ever had. So much rich flavor and will absolutely fill you up. Their Mac salad was also super good and peppery. Make sure to make it there early though! They stop serving when they run out of rice. Second the people were so kind and helped talk us through their favorite things on the menu. 100% a must try on the north shore. read more

Definitely the best food truck on the island. Don't waste your time at the other places next to it, go here!! Breakfast was SO GOOD that I ordered lunch from the truck the same day. Meat, shrimp, and rice cooked to perfection! Delicious and reasonably priced too! I definitely will be returning when I am in the area again!! If you hate to peel shrimp, go to Da Bald Guy. Ordered the garlic shrimp plate lunch ($13). Peeled shrimp over rice with one scoop macaroni salad. Yummy. The garlic shrimp was good but I prefer more garlic butter. The macaroni salad was a five. The rice could have been cooked more...it was a little hard. Haven't been to Giovanni for awhile but didn't want to deal with peeling shrimp. read more

Went for a drive on the island today, so many eateries that were shuttered due to covid. Da bald guy was in an area filled with different food trucks that looked mostly closed. He got great ratings so we stopped in and I noticed that everybody ordering were local like us so I knew we were in the right place! He was super friendly and energetic and made our food made to order. I decided to get the combination plate with garlic shrimp and kalbi , my husband got the fried poke and pan fried fish, both $15 because they are combos but would be $12 if it was just a single dish. My shrimp were large and perfectly seasoned, with fried garlic on the side which I appreciated so I could eat it if I prefer it or not. My kalbi could've used a little more intensity but otherwise super tender, and Mac salad. The fried Cajun fresh catch was cooked perfectly and super fresh and the chutney was "a perfect complement". The bald guy was appreciative and took a picture with us. Then we went to a a beach park down the road and had a picnic on the sand watching the surf! read more

Sad face. I will try the drinks next time they use Pono syrups. The service throughout was lackluster at best, with little communication or sense of urgency. Felt like the owners took a day off and let the staff run the place for the day.

After after browsing the menu, I saw that they did have the garlic shrimp plate and decided on the combo of the garlic shrimp and garlic ahi. I also ordered a drink and and the largest size they had is a medium size at other fast food places however the very sweet counter girl did let me know that refills are free. Sister number one ordered the sandwich Sister number two ordered the regular garlic shrimp plate and my brother-in-law ordered the Seth burger. While we were able to find a table in the patio area, although they also have seating indoors available. As told by the counter girl, our meal would be delivered in about 15 minutes and it came in just under that time We all like our own dishes. The only complaint is that the regular garlic shrimp plate only head six shrimp and they were on the smaller size compared to the other garlic shrimp trucks in the area. To our surprise there was a young girl that's approached her table asking how arm you was and if we needed anything like more sauce, and we did ask her for a knife. Everyone I've encountered at this shop as been so kind, and this was really off putting. We make a special trip there just for cookies and banana bread, after visiting the food trucks. I visited for a late lunch on a weekday, and though it was busy, there were plenty of spots available nearby. They've got an amazing menu to choose from with many options averaging around $20 after tax and time. Ultimately I settled on the Korean Fried Chicken that was served with slaw and sticky rice. The chicken hit the spot perfectly with a mix of sweet and savory that's hard to top after a 4 hour hike, and the chilled slaw was very refreshing. Staff was very friendly and prompt to assist. As for the ambiance, it's nice to have the beachside breeze as you sit at the shaded picnic tables located just outside the ordering area. Just be prepared for the wind to suddenly pick up as well as the potential for flies to be persistent in trying your tasty meal. Give this place a shot! You won't be disappointed.

Ho'olana is the main coffee shop for the Ritz Carlton, meaning that you can expect a big line for that coffee rush in the morning. We got their iced strawberry matcha latte, which was really good, sweet, and had dairy substitutes available. We also got a banana bread and a muffin, both of which were okay, but not great. We came back the next day and got their banana bread latte was good, and has more of that caffeine kick if that's what you're looking for. We also ordered the açaí bowl, which was definitely pricey for the size, AND they ran out of strawberries, which was unfortunate. The açaí bowl was okay, but not worth the price for what it was. You can skip this one. The most notable thing, though, was the customer service. The ladies taking orders and preparing the pre-made food were very poor in customer service, help, and not willing to assist what-so-ever. They always seemed annoyed that people were ordering, and put a damper on the overall whole cafe experience. My grandma, who wanted to come here for her birthday in the morning, had additionally wanted to ask them what time they opened, as they had just closed, but instead of answering the question, or referring her online, they cut her off and said that they were closed, so they won't be assisting further. If you want anything other than a drink or a pastry, like a sandwich, then you should also expect a pre-made sandwich ALL with mustard and mayonnaise. All of them (is at least what they said when we asked if any didn't have that.) Thankfully, the view from the windows in the coffee lounge seating area makes up for some of the bad vibes.

Because it sits around, the shrimp is incredibly difficult to peel. The Spicy Shrimp had a decent kick, but it lacked actual flavor. The Shrimp Scampi was better but still bland. Honestly, 9 out of 10 shrimp places back home in Southern California make a better plate. To make things worse, the two ladies managing the truck were rude. My wife asked for extra napkins, not realizing some were already in the bag. The worker snapped back, "Are those not enough?" and made her feel super awkward. We also asked for a cup of ice to go with our canned sodas. They flatly refused and told us to ask another truck nearby. Luckily, the other truck owners were much nicer and gave us the ice. Save your time and money. There are much better, friendlier options out there.

I've been coming to this bar ever since the first time I started golfing, ever since the dinosaurs ruined the Earth, lmao! Just kidding! We had several beers and $15 French Fries?! You do get a decent amount even with the both of us eating it. It was very filling. It's amazing every time we go there there's always several happy people who are very friendly to talk to, and that's one of the reasons why the bar is a wonderful place for both locals and tourists to enjoy. Although I haven't eaten at the restaurant recently, I do remember when I did try the restaurant the food was very well prepared and seasoned just right. You just need to decide if you want a hot or regular sandwich and whether you want bleu cheese or special sauce. We got one hot and one regular, but the chicken is HUGE and two adults can easily share one sandwich. I'm torn, because while we would probably order just one sandwich next time, I also want to support the business and get two. The chicken was as good as everyone told us and had incredible crispy batter. The fries though...those were maybe the best I've ever had. I don't normally love the double cooked style fry, but could live off those and never get tired of them. FYI...we took ours to eat at the Beer Garden about 100 yards to the west and that's a winning combo.

Me and my girlfriend decided to leave the depths of Waikiki and head to north shore for a local taste. We pulled into what words can only describe as a food truck paradise. Plenty of parking and plenty of food we set our eyes on Da Bald Guy. Although I'm not a big fan of fish I was blown away. With texture almost like of a chicken I was blessed by a variety of flavors from both the ocean and of spice. The food came out very quickly and was a beautiful spot to sit relax and take it all in. Food service was great and staff explained what seemed to be the whole menu explaining flavors that sounded like a foreign language to a mainlander like myself. Discovering Da Bald Guy's booth at Waikiki Spam Jam was a game-changer for us this year. Despite not planning to attend this year's event, when my husband saw the lineup of vendors, especially Da Bald Guy, it instantly persuaded us to be there. The long line was a testament to their popularity, but every minute of the wait was worth it. We indulged in their Kimchi Spam Fried Rice and ribeye steak, both cooked to perfection by James, the owner himself. It's admirable to see him and his team tirelessly serving up delicious dishes, albeit with limited staff. The peeled garlic shrimp here is really, really good -- easily the standout item on the menu. The shrimp are plump and tender, coated in that rich, garlicky sauce that's savory, buttery, and packed with flavor in every bite. It's the kind of dish you keep going back to, even after you tell yourself you're full. I'll be honest -- in my opinion, it's a bit expensive for the portion size. But that's pretty much the reality everywhere in Hawaii these days. Given the quality and flavor, it still feels worth trying at least once. If you're stopping by, I'd highly recommend the peeled garlic shrimp. It's definitely the move. read more

Seen this on the Hawaiian Netflix show and it's 10000% legit... DA bald guy serves some of the best Hawaiian lunch plate food on the island. So unique with the plate choices. I would get the combo you since you can choose two. I wanted to order the whole menu. We got the boneless Kalbi and the Pan fried poke combo.. The flavor you get here is so rich. Gives a really good portion. I'm coming back every trip. This is a gem if you are ever in Oahu. If you don't come here you're missing out. I had the pleasure of trying Da Bald Guy food truck during my recent trip to Hawaii, and it was amazing! The food was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick and efficient. We ordered the combo plate with the fried poke and the beef. Da bald guy is a must try spot if you haven't. I love the boneless beef kalbi! Flavor is on point and it's so tender. The fried poke is really ono as well as their tender steak plate as well. The breakfast deals are awesome as well so much in your plate for a price easy on the wallet. Almost forgot to mention the food comes out so fast sometimes you get your food before you get your change back! read more
