Hadn't been to da chef noodle since before the pandemic & I fear it caught omygod. I started my career in NYC and frequented a number of the best midtown Szechuan & Hunan places, being recognized by name at Pearl's, Peking House, Shun Lee Dynasty, et al. Also went down to Chinatown after work every 2nd or 3rd week, followed by dessert at Ferrari's. OK, so I'm spoiled but I'm no novice!! My test at any Chinese place is the quality of their Hot and Sour Soup, Potstickers and Moo Shu pork (or chicken) pancakes. Went to da chef noodle tonight & they failed the tests. The Hot and Sour was OK, nicely spiced (especially for out here in CV) but thin, and I ate it all since I was famished. On the other hand, the Moo Shu chicken was awful, bland & overcooked & uninspired! I begrudgingly ate only 1 of the 4 pancakes. It's a shame since the place is close by but it's sadly typical of the Chinese places in the CV. Alas, Panda Express might be in the top five locally but good OC places were similarly few & far between!! BTW, I went here since China Wok had a 45+ minute wait & P.F. The interior is well decorated and is pleasing to the eyes. The menu is on the wall and even the history and culinary experiences of the master chef! So now comes the reviews for the food: We ordered what we would normally get from an American-Chinese restaurant - shrimp fried rice, walnut shrimp, BBQ pork. We also tried the steamed BBQ pork bao because why not? SHRIMP FRIED RICE - We ordered the Yangzhou style shrimp fried rice with Chinese sausage. Oh my!! It is not the traditional fried rice overloaded with soy sauce! This fried rice is cooked to perfection - with shrimps, peas and Chinese sausage. This can be a meal in itself. Duck noodle soup and mapo tofu! A weekend getaway to Palm springs and I was craving asian soup due to the rainy weather. I tried the duck noodle soup for the first time. It was really simple and the portion was huge! The mapo tofu was delish! The mala (numbing spicyness) wasn't too overbearing. The decor is very clean and modern. War Wonton Soup is a bowl of pure magical bliss! First visit here and tried to order Pho which was not available on that day. Good thing however!!! The server suggested the War Wonton Soup. I ordered through yelp and went to pick up my order, boy was I in for a humiliating experience! The server wouldn't acknowledge me I had to call the restaurant just to get someone to come and talk to me and all the server did was pick the phone up and hang it up and when I tried to talk to him telling him that I came for a pick up order he yelled at me and told me to wait in front of all the customers I was so embarrassed! This has never happened to me before I wasn't rude to him at all but he was extremely rude to me I don't know if this is an off night for them or what because of the reviews I came to try it out I will be trying Joes Sushi next because at least I know that they will treat me with respect I will never come back here again! read more

I was impressed by the different varieties of Asian noodles and various dishes. I took my parents for lunch on a Sunday. The place is small, with the menu on the back, like others have reviewed. I ordered the Pork Barbecue Noodle soup, while my dad ordered the noodle soup with roasted Duck. My mom had the Lomein noodle dish with chicken. We also ordered the steamed BBQ pork bao dimsum. The food was very good. I enjoyed my soup. The Lomein was very tasty with crisp vegetables. My dad really enjoyed the duck noodle soup. Service was very good. Everything was very reasonable.
