First time visiting and it was amazing and what you'd expect when your in Hawaii. Was greeted with a warm aloha! She didn't speak much but was very nice. The shave ice flavors were just the right amount of sweet and sour. The music being played was local island music and relaxing. Pleasantly located across the street from the beach and right next door to the ABC store.

This shave ice melted perfectly in the mouth! The flavor was rich and did not taste super artificial. The spot is next to a gas station. The days we went there was no line and we got our shave ice quickly. There is indoor seating available but the space is small. The staff was kind and provided us a punch card.

The gal behind the counter was so sweet and friendly She recognized my friend and offered her a punch card with a few extra punches because she wasn't offered her one the last time she was in. We ordered 2 Rainbow shave ice and let me tell you, the portions were generous! Every bite was creamy, sweet, melt-in-your-mouth-pillowy goodness. Stopped by Da Kine Shave Ice for a quick frozen treat -- even though I was still feeling pretty full from lunch, I couldn't resist. I went with a kid-size (perfect portion) and mixed banana, blue vanilla, and dreamsicle flavors with a snow cap on top. Sweet, refreshing, and just the right size to hit the spot without overdoing it. The stand is tucked off the road, attached to the side of a gas station, so it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it. While I wouldn't call it the best shave ice on the strip, it's a solid option if you're nearby and in need of a cooldown. Great little pit stop within walking distance.

Was less than a mile from where we were staying, and it wasn't too busy, which was really nice. We got we got the lava flow and Kihei Sunset. The ice was so finally shaving. It was really good and there was a lot of syrup in sauce on top. The decor was also nice and colorful and fair amount of seating inside and out. We got two regulars for two adults at the toddler and that was a little bit much next time you might do one regular and one kid size. Definitely gonna be going here multiple times during our visit.

My husband and I enjoyed our shave ice from Da Kine! The employees were super friendly and informative about shave ice and the flavors, and we enjoyed getting to eat our shave ice in the nice AC. We built our own and both got the kids size, which was plenty for us. Some of our flavors included guava, lilikoi, lychee, coconut, and shark blood - all of which were delicious and applied with just the right amount. We'll definitely be back the next time we're here in Maui!

This place is right across the street from the beach in a space that also has a gas station. The parking lot is small and crowded. The line was long and was by far the place that took the longest to serve the shaved ice. The wait is long and there is no bathroom. About $7 for a small with three flavors prices go up from there.

Loved the vibes of this shave ice spot. Very colorful inside with a robust menu of shave ice flavor options. Took awhile to get our 4 shave ice but they only had one person working so I definitely give them a pass there! The shave ice hit the spot on a warm day but we definitely had better while in Maui. Was nice of them to give us a stamp rewards card with an extra stamp :) We left it for our next Airbnb guest to enjoy a free shave ice!

We love coming here after spending the day at the beach. It's a little extra treat for us before driving home upcountry. The ice is like soft ice flakes, the flavors are yummy. The 3 size options are nice too. The girls, are always so friendly and actually remember us. It's the one stop shopping center where you can get gas, shop at the ABC store, rent some snorkel gear and grab a shave ice...and it's all walking distance from the beach which is directly across the street. You can't go wrong...why not grab a shave ice and walk across the street to watch the sunset...sounds like an epic time to me!!!

The space was really fun and reminded me of being a kid. They had really awesome flavour combinations, and unique flavoured ideas. I was really excited about having coconut ice cream in my shave ice as well. We got the jaws combination and the ice was a great texture and it looked massive. I think we arrived just as someone might've been heading out on a break so the weight was a little bit, but the guy who helped us with super friendly and would definitely recommend anyone in the area to come to Da Kine and get their shave ice!

Let me tell you right now: the Roy Rogers shaved ice from Da Kine Shave Ice is not playing around. This thing pulled up with cherry, cola, whipped cream, and a gummy lime on top like it knew it was the star of the show -- and it absolutely was. The texture of the ice? Fluffy perfection. Not chunky, not slushy -- just that perfect melt-in-your-mouth softness that proves these folks know their craft. The cherry + cola combo had me feeling like I was sipping an old-school soda float, except somehow better because it was cold, massive, and came in a cute cup. Whipped cream on top was a dreamy touch (not too sweet, just right), and the little gummy lime? A whole moment. Cute, tasty, and a lil' zesty flair for the win. 10/10 would demolish again. If you're in the area and not getting one of these, what are you doing??

The perfect shaved ice spot after a long day at the beach! They had over 30 flavors to choose from, including sugar-free and dye-free flavors for syrups. Additional toppings to choose from as well! Pricing also felt very fair - $5.95 for an 8 oz. kid's serving. Recently opened in August. The owner is wonderfully friendly and the place is spotless with a fun colorful decor. Parking was also easy and it's an easy stop for other convenience store or beach supplies thanks to being right by an ABC store and gas station. read more

Wow I'm so happy we found this gem of a place! What a great shaved ice spot. Such great atmosphere and awesome customer service. The place itself is colorful and nice, but the service is SO slow. Only one person working to take orders and make the shave ice. The employee was very kind, but it takes 10 mins appx. For every 2 shave ices to be made. When there were two parties in front of us, we waited for our simple order of 2 shave ices for over 30 minutes. Overall, maybe it's just "Hawai'i time", and we can't really complain as we are on an island with a beach. But don't come if you just want a quick refreshing bite. read more

Not only a full menu of flavors that actually taste like a pineapple upside down cake or Granny Smith apple pie, but the watermelon tastes like watermelon! We are treated like family, every time we come in, the remember us and even remember our favorites! We are working our way through the menu, and there are some concoctions that are better then others, but we have yet to have a bad selection. While you await for your larger then anywhere else's shaved ice, you can look at the beautiful artwork on the walls!!! Fun atmosphere, excellent service, friendly, fun and they all know the menu and will help you find your own favorite flavors... Some have ice cream on the base and cream on top... layers of delicious desert... or as I sometimes use it for a dinner/desert as it is just enough after a long hot day to cool me off and relax. This place is alright, but after 3 straight days of eating at Ululani's, this place doesn't compare. They don't pack down the ice or poke holes, so the shaved ice is more like shards than smooth. The flavorings/syrups were standard, not house made. read more

Stumbled upon Da Kine Shave Ice after getting a flat tire and ended up at the gas station in the same plaza. Immediately noticed they carried Roselani ice cream (locally made Maui ice cream) and knew we had to try. I got the keiki size shaved ice, perfect amount for me! POG and Lilioko'i flavors with the Roselani macnut ice cream. So delish and refreshing, truly a great treat. Friendly staff, bright, colorful decor and island music gives it a nice vibe inside the shop. Plenty of outdoor seating as well. Lol these guys definitely don't take themselves as seriously as some of the other Shave Ice places on the island. The rainbow decor, furniture and uniforms are overwhelmingly vibrant. It's like you're entering oompah loompah land or something. There are Grand Opening signs all over the place, but they've been around for many weeks. Hopefully they pick up clientele because so far it seems a little slow and probably not the income they need to cover their expensive interiors and artwork. The staff are all a little... slow? It was kinda comical watch 3 workers doddle about somewhat aimlessly during the production of our 5 shave ices. And they got two of them wrong. On one, they forgot the snow cap. On the most expensive one, a Da Kine "classic" standard recipe Ocean Mist, they forgot the ice standard ice cream and the standard pineapple flavour. The guy taking our order almost seemed stoned or something. He couldn't find things on his screen easily. My son just wanted a straight orange flavour shaved ice. The guy looked at me and asked me "do we HAVE that flavour?" Heehee The texture of the shave ice is not like a fluffy Ululani's ice, that's for sure. It's large crystals like a mainland sno-cone. Almost like a slurpee. The flavours aren't very distinguishable. They taste quite synthetic. I had Ube and Li Hing Mui. Both didn't taste like this things at all. The Li Hing Mui lacked any of that funky tang you expect. It almost tasted more like watermelon than anything. The Ube was more like a cream soda. We have tried 6 different shave ice or other frozen ice places on Maui so far. This is definitely at the bottom of the list. read more

Stopped by here because my niece was begging for rainbow hawaiian shaved ice. There was a little shaved ice cutout outside for kids to take pictures, really colorful indoor and outdoor seating, and a pictures on the wall so you have an idea of what your ordering. Huge selection of flavors, and the syrups all use real sugar so you don't get that artificial aftertaste. Ice was the perfect texture and they use Roselani ice cream (IYKYK) as the base! We would've never known about this brand new place if we hadn't popped a flat tire down the street and ended up in their parking lot. Friendly staff and delicious, fluffy, shaved ice! We found Da Kine during our recent visit to Maui and couldn't stay away (even picked it up on the way to the airport)! The store is also right across the street from a beach so you can take your treat to go and sit in the sand while you enjoy. Came here late one night. Da Kine is located next to and toward the back of a gas station, so it's not obvious from the street. They have seating both inside and out. The service was fine and they have plenty of flavors for the shave ice. Easy parking in the lot in front of Da Kine. read more

But today's shave ice at the Surfing Monkey location more in town, near Foodland, was sooooo much better! She put way more ice cream and the small seemed like a large. This food truck is actually an old school VW bus painted in white and blue. The line was about 10 people deep when I got there, even though it was around 7:30 and he was closing in about half an hour. After looking over the menu and seeing some wild options like birthday cake and gummy bear, I ultimately decided to go with an Ono Hua, or shaved fruit. For my shave ice I went with a regular size and chose POG as my flavor. Since it was shaved fruit, he had to switch from the regular ice to one that already had the fruit in it. Once he finished making it, he asked if I wanted a sweetener on top and I chose the coconut. As soon as I walked away I took my first bite and wow was it good. The POG flavor was legit and while the lilikoi dominated, that is exactly what I like. I loved the sharpness from the passion fruit and how the real fruit flavors were allowed to shine. The ice itself was super fluffy and light which made it even better. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I really loved this shave ice and can't wait to bring my wife the next time we are in Maui.

I'm a sprinkle addict (a go to on my ice cream since childhood lol) so that was lacking for me but I noticed you can add various toppings like Oreos, Honey, Granola, Waffle cone crumbles, etc. I tried my friend's fruit choices and they were delicious! The Pineapple with Coconut Base tasted like a Dole Whip, the Banana was light and creamy and the Strawberry and Mango (which was close to mine) was delicious as well. They have outdoor seating in the back with a little bit of shade. The last time I came with a friend was evening when it was cooler but the ice cream definitely hit during the day and was refreshing for sure.

This location is a small food shack right outside of Kihei Kalama Village. There was a small line when we got there but thankfully the person working the counter was quick. For my shave ice on this day I went with a small and chose piña colada, passion fruit, and guava. Starting with the ice, it was shaved nice and thin and I did not get any clumps. The flavors were interesting but good and while they leaned sweet, I liked that it was not a complete sugar bomb. Because of that I was able to finish the whole thing and felt refreshed afterwards. My father enjoyed his shave ice as well and agreed that while it was sweet, it was not overly so. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. While it is not in my top tier of shave ice, it is a solid option and can definitely scratch the itch when I am in the mood for one.

Hubby had the key lime pie a la mode, and it was the perfect balance of creamy sweetness and tart, but not too tart. Both slices came with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, which is the only way to do it. The service was friendly, too. The indoor seating was full, so we sat outside, which turned out to be lovely for people watching and enjoying the fresh air. If you have a sweet tooth and appreciate a proper slice of pie, Maui Pie is worth the trip. Highly recommend, and I'll see you there for more peach cobbler!

It tastes exactly what it sounds like. They used to give the mustard spread, but now they charge for it. Either way, we are still coming back because of how fluffy and flakey the croissant is. You have to try it. We've tried a few other pastries and they were decent.

The Caesar Salad is about as good as they get, but I really, really like the Maui Greek Salad. With at least four people we start with the Seafood Tower, but find it just too big for two of us. Other than that the Kalua Pig Pot Stickers, Charred Octopus, Crab Cakes and Blackened Ahi are the starters I rotate through. For my Main, I am less eclectic. I have a hard time getting away from the Diver Scallops and Scampi. I have tried other dishes, the Abalone, Kona Lobster and Ribeye (I know, I know, who orders steak in a seafood restaurant), but I keep coming back to. For Dessert, I am also in a rut, but I love desserts they set on fire and in this case it is Bananas Foster. I do sneak bites off my DW's Creme Brulee, as does off my BF. The service is terrific, attentive without being intrusive. I used to joke about the Chicago store that if you knocked a spoon off the table someone would catch it before it hit the floor. Oops we owe you that next time (but you'll take our money today) Our food runner was great! Super upbeat, always with a smile. Bar area was relatively quiet until it wasn't. We wouldn't spend $350 this way again but would sit at the bar for sashimi and bounce.

I recently visited Da Kine Shave Ice and had a fantastic experience. The shave ice was incredibly refreshing and bursting with flavor. I particularly loved the addition of the creamy ice cream beneath the shave ice in the "Hawaiian" option I chose. The service was quick and efficient, making the overall visit enjoyable. The best shaved ice I have ever had. My favorite is cola, wild cherry and sharks blood. We were on a 5 day vacation, and we came here every day and twice, one day. My family liked the coconut ice cream. This shop has so many different flavors and an excellent menu selection. Sooooo happy we found this place. read more
