    Da "Lau Lau" Plate
    Amy Y.

I was craving some authentic Hawaiian food, and this place was highly recommended. Boy, does it live up to the hype! The portions are HUGE and DELICIOUS. One plate was enough to probably feed two or three people. I ordered the lau lau plate, which is pork (and a small amount of preserved fish for flavor) wrapped in taro leaves. If you hadn't tried lau lau before, you must try it! The waitress was so nice and offered shoyu and sriracha, which took the flavors to a whole new level. The poi and salad accompaniments also tasted fresh. It's a small restaurant tucked away in a strip mall. You can choose either full service or take-out to sit outside.

Kalbi combo plate - Kalbi short ribs, Korean Fried Chicken, Fried garlic shrimp, rice , macsalad & pickled veggies

It has been a while since I have been to a Da Kitchen restaurant. I order the Kalbi shortrib & Korean fried chicken plate. The plate was huge 2 large pieces Kalbi short ribs, 2 large boneless korean fried chicken & 2 fried garlic shrimp, 2 scoops rice, mac salad & pickle veggied. This meal lasted me two days. It was so good. I also ordered fried spam musubi, which was ok. It is not a very big place, not very many tables inside & some outside. Food came out quick.

Super nice staff who were kind, friendly and attentive. This is a great local food spot with huge portions, so you definitely get your money's worth if you're coming here to eat. We got the kalbi noodles, which were good but definitely on the sweeter side. We also got the teriyaki chicken and Spam combo with mac salad, and that was really good too. Overall, solid local comfort food, generous portions and great service. Definitely worth checking out if you're hungry :D

So good! This little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Kihei was such a great find. We got two combo plates to feed my entire family, and it was well worth it! The combo plate comes with katsu, beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, mac salad, and cabbage. Everything was well seasoned, flavorful, and came out super quick even though they were really busy. The service was also amazing! Everyone working there was extremely friendly and made sure we were taken care of. Definitely a must-go spot when you're in Maui. Great portions, great food, and even better service. Highly recommend!

I had the long rice soup. It was delicious! Very flavorful and had a good amount of chicken. It totally hit the spot. Service was phenomenal!

    Mixed Plate and Kalbi Tacos

Came in pretty late to this spot and they were still super busy. Heard they were out of fried musubi which was fine. Ordered the Mixed Plate and Kalbi Tacos. After ordering went to Long Drugs next door for a few things and came back to pick up our order, felt like it was about 20-30 minutes? Food was worth the wait! Mixed Plate came with like 5 different proteins I think there was Mahi Mahi, chicken, katsu, bbq beef and something else with potato Mac salad and rice. Mixed plate was LOADEDDDDD. Hefty bowl and I can't believe my boyfriend and I got to finish it, it was a lot; definitely worth the price. Mahi Mahi was super crispy and prob the best I've had. All the meats with the potato Mac salad was the perfect combo. Kalbi Tacos were pretty good, had great flavor. They had inside and outside seating and there's lots of parking spots here. Inside has around 5 tables, it's a pretty small space but nothing beats getting take out and eating in front of the beach that's close by!

So much food but so good. The person that brought the menu explained the menu to us and then we were left to our devices to make our picks. Garlic noodles with chicken had really great garlic flavor and tasted like it was cooked on a grill. I had the kalua plate which came with rice, macaroni, and pulled pork. The pulled pork was very good, but the macaroni was my favorite. It's not something I normally eat so it was a real treat.. love the authentic food. Here will definitely be adding this to our rotation.

    Loco Moco
    Nicholas k.

Stopped by here on our trip to Kihei and super glad we did. Super small place with about 4-5 tables but the food came out fast, and the staff was very friendly. We ordered the loco Moco and bbq ribs plate. The food was very generous for the price. No wonder the ribs were close to $50 since they gave about 4-5 slabs. That meal alone was able to be saved for another meal.

Food was alright, felt like it lacked seasoning. Was really looking forward to this place but fell short flavor wise. Amount wise great deal lots of food for the price!

    Deep Fried Musubi!

Is this place small? Yes! Is this place a little harder to find? Maybe. Is this place worth going to every time? ABSOLUTELY! Fresh off the plane, first stop in Maui is almost always Da Kitchen. We were worried it was lost forever a few years ago, but nope, they just moved down the road. It's definitely not a formal place, but so relaxed, which is what I look for in Maui. We shared the Kalbi Ribs, and we were starving, and we couldn't eat them all especially after diving into the veggie spring rolls and deep fried musubi. My wife that doesn't usually even like musubi, enjoyed the deep fried version Da Kitchen offered. So go for it..try it if you have never had musubi, try this deep fried version!

kalbi mixed plate ($35) - this plate is crazily massive; it's not only got 2 slabs of kalbi, but it also came with a shrimp tempura and lots of chicken - i like this concept of a mixed plate because you can get many different types of meat and different flavors in one meal, so you don't easily get bored from just the kalbi - every part of the plate was well executed; tempura was nicely fried and crisp, kalbi was well marinated and tender, and the chicken was incredibly succulent - i couldn't stop eating the chicken once i started; such wonderful texture and flavor fried musubi ($6.99) - this is a genius take on musubi; ive never seen musubis done like this and i am a fan - the exterior was super crunchy while the rice remained intact and not mushy - this wouldve been a fire snack for a hike or something rating: 4.6/5 - everything we ate was bussin and succulent, so the rating is pretty high; most restaurants can only do well on a few dishes but this place performed well on everything we ordered, which is impressive already! - even the pickled veggie was good, indicating that they really put care into all parts of the dish - i love the flavor and texture of everything - the service was extremely welcoming and friendly; we were greeted with such enthusiasm for the entirety of our visit - large comfortable dining space that feels casual IG: @nom.noms.only

Unassuming place at a strip mall, but fantastic food! We stopped here for dinner on our way to the airport before flying back home, and I'm sorry I couldn't take my leftovers! I had the kalbi plate which was one lb of ribs on a bed of rice and a side of macaroni salad. We also got the kitchen Bento plate which was Spam musubi, tempura, teriyaki chicken and beef, and chicken katsu. PLENTY of food for the two and a half of us! There are only a few tables inside and if you're lucky to be seated, they'll take your order and serve you. Otherwise, order at the counter and hope to find a spot outside: first come, first served. We got there right around 530 on a Friday and got lucky, the place was packed before we knew it! I also didn't realize they were featured by Guy Fieri which might partly explain the crowds...though I suspect the delicious food and the fast and friendly service might have something to do with it too. Can't wait to come back!

Happy to be back? I think so!

Ask the Community - Da Kitchen Maui

Do we have to make reservations or is it walk in?

    No reservations needed

    Delivery?? Available at Maui schooner

No I don't think so. Everything tells me sit down or take out only.

Do they make fried saimin? I saw they had regular saimin with the soup but what about fried saimin?

I didn't see it on the menu, but they always have specials... Saimin is dine-in only.

No more Kahalui location? Is this Kihei location still an Express?

There is some indoor seating and a couple of tables outside. Very limited. Still great food at the new Kihei location

Is msg used in the food? I have a severe allergy and have to ask.

Only the staff would know. Call & ask the speak w the owner or manager

    Is there outdoor seating?

    no outdoor seating

Do they have any gluten free options?

Just went because a lot of the reviews claim many gluten free options. However, there are only two GF options - the Kalua Pork and the Laulau plate. There is no separate GF menu.

Is there a Happy Hour? If yes, what does it include?

No they don't have happy hour

What is current status of Da Kitchen In Kihei? Piko Cafe?

Da Kitchen has completely taken over the space. Not sure what happened to Piko Cafe..

What are the hours for the reopening on 12/10?

(Temp) Mon-Sat, 10am - 3pm. Will adjust as things pick up. Check for updates on Instagram:…

    Is this location closed?

    Nope

    Is a reservation required?

Can we make rsvp for 10 tonight Saturday any time ?

    What is ur hours?

Last I checked, it was 4pm to 8pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Is the last day for open 7/22?

Yes, unfortunately their last day is 7/22. Hopefully they'll reopen in the future!

Is Da Kitchen Cafe open on Christmas? Would love to stop by then.

They will be closed Christmas Day and New Years Day! There's a sign on the front door.

    Is there a kids menu?

Not that I'm aware, but plenty of kids go there with their parents so I'd suggest asking the servers. ALSO, the entrees are very large---plenty large to split with a child or between several children.

Is the Uber soft serve dairy free?

    I don't think so

What are some good vegetarian dishes? Would they sub the loco loco with a veggie patty (we don't mind if the gravy isn't strictly vegetarian)?

I was there yesterday and saw more vegetarian items on the board menu. If I remember it right, I think I saw an item called "tofu poke with quinoa". So be sure to look at it! I did see that they have taro burger on the regular table menu.

We got the ahi sautéed with cajun rice ($28), the mahi mahi blackened with french fries ($27), and the clam chowder ($7). I liked the sautéed flavors with the butter and garlic. I loved the flavor of the blackened char flavor, and we loved that the fries were thin. The clam chowder was standard. One of the surprising stars of our meal was their house magic sauce. It was one of the condiments table-side and we found that it was so good with everything. We drenched it in the fish and even dipped it in the fries. I thought the flavor of the blackened mahi mahi was better, but the magic sauce went better with the sautéed ahi.

I got a double portion of the Lemon Pepper Garlic Shrimp with an extra scoop of rice to soak up the sauce and an order of onion rings from the Maui Burger side of the business. My BIL wanted the Cajun Shrimp, but only a single order. We took it to go to eat back at the condo because I was not going to share with the feral chickens patrolling the dining tables. I have to say that the Cajun Shrimp had way better flavor than the Lemon Pepper, which was pretty mild. The double portion of shrimp was pretty massive with very plump shrimp. The panko coated onion rings were incredibly crunchy, even when brought back to our condo and came with 2 dipping sauces. We can't wait to go back to Maui just to have some food truck shrimp again!

I stopped by here last night with my father for dinner. Maui Shrimp is located in a food truck pod…read morein Kihei. Since it is a food truck, there is not too much to say about it other than it has a touchscreen to order and is split into two concepts. Half the truck is blue for Maui Shrimp and the other half is red for Maui Burgers. For dinner on this evening I went with the sweet chili mango shrimp and added a scoop of rice while my father went with the Makawao burger. The menu described mine as fresh local mango, bell peppers, and sautéed onions caramelized in a sweet chili sauce with an option for hot or mild. My father's was described as Swiss, bacon, onions, mushrooms, and garlic aioli. Our food came out relatively quickly and when I opened the container I loved how colorful the dish looked. Since I was hungry, I dove right in. It ended up being absolutely delicious, mostly because of the sauce. It was super garlicky with a ton of flavor and the mango added the perfect amount of sweetness. There were nine shrimp and they were cooked well with a nice natural sweetness. I also appreciated the bell peppers and onions as I feel like I do not always get enough vegetables while in Hawaii. My dad also really enjoyed his burger and even said unprompted that it was one of the better burgers he has had lately. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my dad and I enjoyed our food and if they bottled that sauce, I would absolutely buy it.

The…read moreowner (?) had his cooking set up outside of the food truck and was preparing the most amazing roast chicken, and curry vegetables. He explained that he made the specials of the day while the regular menu was made inside the food truck. We were too full however tempted, and decided to go watch the sunset. But afterwards we wandered back to share a dish, and settled upon the beef special since we hadn't had any all trip. We had the smoked maminha tri-tip steak, Okinawa purple sweet potato, grilled maui onion and broccolini. Beautifully plated on real plates and silverware. No comparison to the so many common $21 food truck entrees and cost just a little more. The owner also is very sociable and enjoys talking about this food in a variety of languages with passers by and customers. On the far end from main entrance to the Kihei Food Oasis, or right at the other entrance, depending on how you enter. I wish we had found it earlier or we would have eaten there more than once!

lilikoi meringue tart ($10) - perfect tart to me actually…read more - usually sour flavors like these tend to be too sweet as the baker attempts to compensate the sourness, but that highkey backfires because when the dessert is too sweet and sour i end up hating it - this one however was just right; not too sweet and it's got just enough crust to pair with the lilikoi braised beef loco moco - an elevated take on loco moco that made me realize a simple dish can actually be impressive - the immaculate presentation was one thing but the flavor and texture exceeded my expectations for how a loco moco can taste - the crispy rice was nicely charred; not too burnt; usually charred items taste overdone and burnt but this had a nice note to it; wish it was crispier though but it might be because we were waiting for ages for the rest of the dish - braised beef was extremely tender - sauce was great but i wish it was a bit thicker and less liquidy - the pickled veggies were pretty well made too; they were lacking some kick and brightening flavor but the quality is there shrimp kauai - the shrimp was so juicy and the sauce well done; so fresh it was naturally sweet - the head was golden too, filled with natural sweetness -flavor on point; i had nothing else to say about this dish other than it was near perfect - same comment on the pickled veggies here as above rating: 4.5/5 - every dish was well done; not perfect and can improve but i was already well satisfied - the flavor, texture, and portion made the meal so worth... probably the most affordable food we've had on this island given the quality and care they put into each dish - it operates as a food truck within this zen buddha looking garden - very cute at night with fairy lights, plants, and other decor - highly recommend - service was kind and friendly but it took a long while for the food to be ready; makes sense though given how elaborate their dishes looked!
