During my lunch, I decided to stop by the local boy to try out their platters. I ordered the aloha mix plate which comes with a battered fish, Hulu chicken, and short rib, along with a side of white rice and macaroni salad. The portion sizes were great. I definitely had leftovers and was not able to finish the meal. My favorite was the short rib and the Hulu chicken they were seasoned perfectly and really complement each other. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the loop or on their lunch break. I will say that there is a bit of a line during lunch, but it is definitely worth it.

I am so excited that Da Local Boy is now downtown. So of course when it was time to order lunch for the office, yours truly suggested that we order from here. There was a minor hiccup when I went to pick up our food for lunch. Their fryers went down which caused a delay in the orders so I had to wait an extra 10-15. The owner was very sweet though and offered me water and drinks for my meal while I waited. And in the background I can hear the cooks communicating urgently on making sure order requests have been taken care of. Da Local Boy offers Hawaiian cuisine which provides a nice option and change for the area. There are some tables and chairs available for a casual dine in if you want to eat your food on the spot. I ordered the poke nachos and a bunch of appetizers for our group. Got the spam musubi, lumpia (egg rolls), and shrimp tempura. The poke nachos were AMAZING! Everything was cooked to order so the ingredients tasted fresh and the nacho chips were still warm and crunchy! It was deliciously seasoned and goodness if you love poke you gotta try this. Spam musubi was yum, and so were the lumpia's. I love their take on the shrimp tempura as they added more flavor to it by adding sauce and furikake. I am so excited to come back and taste their other lunch plates that are on the menu. And trust me I will be back!!

I saw a Block Club article about Da Local Boy opening another location of their Hawaiian restaurant in the Loop (their other location is in the suburbs). It was bumping when we went during a weekday at lunch, and I'm happy to see them be busy because the Loop deserves better food options. I got the Braddah Paul's plate, which had mochiko chicken, pork belly, and poke, mac salad. The poke and mac salad were my favorite and I would come back just to get those. I also tried my friends' shrimp and furikake fries, which were good. The pork belly was personally my lwast favorite but still hit as leftovers for lunch another day.

Like most social media hype this place has received tons of promotions & claims stating that this is the best thing ever. Food was pretty decent. Pricey but substantial. Wait was about 5 min. Lots of patrons with communal tables. Weird hours. Doubt I'd return because I tried the chicken ribs, poke & Mac salad & nothing was awe inspiring. Everything was seasoned well just don't agree that twas impressive

If you're craving the real taste of Hawaii, this spot absolutely delivers .The huli huli chicken is juicy, perfectly caramelized, and tastes like it came straight off a roadside grill on the islands. And the mac salad? Creamy, simple, and exactly how it's supposed to be no shortcuts. The grilled pork belly is next-level... smoky, flavorful, and honestly addictive. Like, I'm already thinking about my next order while I'm still eating. This is officially my new favorite go-to, and the best part? I don't have to make the trek out to Highwood anymore or fly to Hawaii...huge win Highly recommend if you want authentic island flavors without leaving the city.

Went on a Tuesday around 11am (they open at 9am) and I'd say it was perfect timing because during my time there it got very busy with the work lunch rush with customers ordering coming in and out (if you're pressed for time, do an order for pickup because everything is cooked to order and it'll take some time). It's a smaller storefront with I wanna say under 8 tables that can sit 4 people comfortably, it's nicely decorated with their artwork mural an the walls and has two tv boards that show the menu that are easy to see. Being newer to eating Hawaii style food (familiar but just never really had anything besides poke or spam musubi) I got Hawaiian staple loco moco, surf n turf plate and 3 spam musubi. All were very good, loco moco is two hamburger patties over white rice with two eggs on top and a side of brown gravy to pour over everything, also with a scoop of macaroni salad. The surf n turf is beef short ribs and buttery garlic shrimp (five pieces of each) over white rice, with a side of macaroni salad. The spam musubi are probably some of the best I've had recently. Everything is packed to go but I ate there and they also offer cups with straws and self serve water, they do sell Hawaiian juices and other pops too. Very good food and I'll for sure be back to try everything else, was definitely worth my time and effort. Great experience and service. Easily became a go to spot for me.

When I came in, the entrance is decorated pretty nicely and then there are some display cases with different types of tiki mugs. Many of which are for sale so you're able to take home a little bit of this paradise if you really want to. I had initially sat at the tables but it was a large table and I was by myself and didn't want to take up that much space. So I asked to be seated by the bar. Which is why some of the pictures I took had this blue glow to them that probably don't highlight the food as much as could have. The food wise was really good and the portions. My opinion were rather watch. I had ate dinner that night and took the leftovers home which was lunch. The next day. I had the Hawaiian BBQ chicken that I thought was very good and was recommended by the staff. For drinks, I had a Mai Tai which packed a pretty big punch. My first sip was a little strong, but after eating a little bit and coming back to it, the ice had melted. Just enough for the drink. Actually mellowed greatly and was very enjoyable. Tiki drinks tend to be very strong so I didn't really find this as an issue. All in all, when I travel I like to go to places that are new and I would say if I came back to Chicago I would definitely come here again, especially if I have my wife kid. I think they would love the atmosphere and it's definitely a little tropical getaway in a busy City.

The vibe is speakeasy-ish; the entrance is off the street in an alleyway but the interior is very nice, low light, and would be fun for a date night! The staff were attentive and very friendly. My friend got some shots, which were surprisingly good given they were kind of sweet, and I ordered the "mystic lamp" cocktail ($16) which was VERY memorable to me as someone that loves floral drinks -- it was very floral, slightly fruity, and had a lovely chunk of lychee it came with which was delicious! The drink was decent sized too; I've been charged a lot more for much less drink at other speakeasies (those of which I don't plan to visit again any time soon haha). In my opinion, this spot has the perfect combo of great drinks, nice ambiance, cool speakeasy-vibes, but also cheerfulness given the tiki-theme inside. Would definitely rec a visit to anyone visiting Chicago who likes cool bars!

I was excited for the experience having heard how busy it gets, blah blah. These positive reviewers need to seek out other tiki bars. After you negotiate the alley entrance and go down dangerously dark stairs, you are met with crazy boring decor. I kept thinking there had to be more right? The whole point of a tiki bar is to strike a mood, but hanging a very few polynesian masks on the wall, putting up a grass facade over the bar and dressing the servers in vaguely polynesian outfits is sad. I've seen private tiki bars at people's homes that are more exciting. Add to this a comparably boring music selection played far too loud over boomy lo-fi speakers and you'll wonder what's going on here. So what about the food and drink? Completely uninspired for anyone who's had more than a mai tai before in their life. About a dozen extremely common drink choices is all you get!! No specials, that's it. When I asked if this was the whole cocktail menu, the server said it was but they have a full bar so you can get anything you want. Well, I could get that service at just about any bar in the world, so big deal. Maybe it would be better if you sat at the bar and chatted up the bartender. One could also go taste their rum selections and other cocktails in the Bamboo Room, but I hate that kind of elitist nonsense. That's never been what tiki bars were about. The drinks we sampled were okay at best. Even the namesake 3 Dots and A Dash cocktail was lackluster and used cheap cherries for the dots instead of classic Luxardos. (If you know, you know) The appetizers were okay, but way overpriced. 5 tiny spring rolls for $18. Come on guys, enough already. I'd rather go to the bar at the Polynesian Hotel at Disney than return here. This place is a hard pass.

Also tried the tomato jam and egg musubi, which has incredibly subtle flavors of garlic and furikake, a small dollop of tomato jam spread, and the tamago. I really enjoyed this subtle bite and thought the rice to ingredient ratio was perfect!! Finally, I've been so jealous of the influencers filming themselves eating at the beach!! Anyways, got a 2 scoop poke bowl with spicy ahi and shoyu ahi. Both my friend and I thought the spicy ahi with the spicy mayo and sesame oil hit harder!! Poke was super fresh, and while the bowl itself is small, the actual poke portion is incredibly generous. I found myself not having enough rice for the amount of poke!!
