As soon as we had a room we tossed all our luggage inside and went for a walk. It was about 10pm local time and we were just crossing our fingers hoping to find a good Italian meal. Well our hotel is located on the mainland and unfortunately everything was closed. So we just walked around and while walking down what appeared to be a residential street heard music and stumbled across this hidden gem. It's cute, quite and quaint. The dining room is old world, the chef delivers his food to the table and happily describes his works of art exhausted, perspiring and out of breath, but proud and anxious. We only had a small plate of spaghetti and some wine but it was delicious! It was more than delicious it was the best spaghetti we have had. We ate, drank and talked into the night. The families dining around us ordered plate after plate after plate....... We soaked in the background noise of children and family speaking Italian.......laughing and having a splendid evening. The menu is short, focused, and built around family recipes. We ordered the pasta of the day, the roast beef, and the smoked salmon dish, and every single item was fantastic. To finish, we had limoncello made by Marco's mother, and it was absolutely delicious. What really made the evening special was Marco and his family. They were warm, kind, and genuinely happy to share their story with us. We loved hearing about his late father and the lasting impact he had on both the family and the restaurant. One of the most memorable parts of the night was joining in the restaurant tradition of coloring pictures and exchanging them with drawings already hanging on the ceiling. We ended up taking home a picture created by a family member, and it will be making the journey back with us to Carlsbad, California.
