There's a cashier you order from, you grab a table, and then they call out your # to grab you food in to go containers. I'd wager to bet many folks prefer to hike a bit and then eat, so this makes sense to me. Prices were ok for the area. Pricing is reasonable for what you get. I ordered a chili dog which was one of the local upstate brands, so it was stellar. Wish they went lighter on the chili/cheese, but I just removed it and ate with the homemade chips. My son liked his fries, and my wife liked her food too. I wanted to get the trout I see on menus online, but it's no longer on the menu. Got a shake too which hit the spot. I'm eating this place what it deserves, which is not bad at all. What bugged me is that the reviews were off here across different platforms; folks were making this sound like a full blown restaurant, when it's just a family-owned food stop for the trail. Our family is local and has been going to Whitebrook for many years. We used to look forward to…read moreweekly visits to the Dairy Bar and the hot dog statue with our young children. Kids got ice cream and the adults got clam strip baskets, chicken fingers and the burgers always hit the spot. We understood when things were busier, were patient when waits were longer and supported it when prices went up and food portions seemed to get a bit smaller. The majority of the time the workers were hardworking and friendly. Many of the younger workers would tell us about their summers and made the regular small talk with us. Last summer we noticed that the staff seemed bothered by customers and the quality (for a nice little ice cream stand anyways) began to slip. This summer we noticed it again - workers in the back eating candy while cooking and hair in the macaroni and cheese during another visit. Some small things that we chalked up to younger kids working that were minor mistakes anyone could make. But still pretty much friendly service if not just going through the motions perhaps. Then last week we had an extremely rude server. She asked the bare minimum about our order, answered simple questions with attitude and when she handed us our food, she stuck her arm holding the ice cream out of the window and just stood there staring at people until the correct person would walk up and ask her if it was their order. It was so noticeably snotty that I overheard another group of people talking about it and other couples in our party had the same experience when going up at different times.
