This was my first time visiting the area for leisure, and we decided to give this restaurant a try based on its inviting atmosphere. We were seated within just a couple of minutes, which made for a great first impression. One thing I noticed right away was that the dining room seemed to be operating with a limited staff. I only saw two servers working, so it took a little while before someone came to greet us, bring water, and take our drink order. Throughout the meal, we also had to flag down our server a few times for water refills. Despite that, once we placed our food order, everything came out fairly quickly. Our table ordered a variety of dishes, including fish and chips, sushi, steak, salads, and dessert, so we were able to sample several different menu items. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meals. My fish was a little dry, and the fries were thinner than I prefer and had cooled off by the time they reached the table. I also noticed the tartar sauce was different from what I'm used to--it tasted more like ranch dressing with a hint of horseradish. They also didn't offer cocktail sauce, which is something I personally enjoy with fish and chips. Those are personal preferences, but they're worth mentioning for anyone considering that dish. On the positive side, the sushi, steak, and salads received good reviews from everyone at the table, and the desserts were an excellent way to finish the meal. The restaurant itself had a pleasant atmosphere, and despite the limited staff, everyone was friendly and doing their best to keep up with the dinner rush. Overall, we had a good experience. While there were a few things that could have been better, nothing was bad enough to ruin the evening. If I find myself back in the area, I would probably try another restaurant simply because there are so many options nearby. I loved my fish & chips. They were halibut and beer battered. You get 3 not overly big pieces. They seem to have an identity crisis. They have quite a variety of food from fish & chips, steak, burgers and sushi. Wait-sushi? I don't think that goes with their vibe and I really wouldn't order that from them. Their Reuben is listed on the menu as being made with pepper jack cheese! No thanks. I like my Reuben's made the traditional way. My friend ordered a steak for $48. She was not at all happy. It was very fatty and was quite thin. She had a salad (looked like mostly greens) and it also came with veggies and mashed potatoes. Wish I had snapped a photo of that. Another friend had chicken Marsala. She enjoyed it. I thought it was weird they had a huge rice cooker on a chair in the dining room. It was plugged in, with the cord running up the side of the door frame and plugged into an extension cord above the door. Wonder what the fire inspector would say about that? Went with a group of friends the other night. Our server was very attentive and helpful. A friend and I split a fish and chips, but since it comes with 3 pieces we ordered another piece. It was really good. The batter was shatteringly crisp and the halibut was good. I wasn't so impressed with the food my friends got. The steak was expensive and she was want impressed. The Reuben sandwich comes with pepper jack according to the menu. Hmmm...does that marry well with sauerkraut? Not to me. Anyway, this place seems like it needs a facelift. I've been meaning to check this place out for quite some time (I am newer to the area) and finally made it there yesterday for lunch. We had a delightful experience in our comfort, the service (Jane is an absolute peach!), menu variety, the food, and the prices. I had the blackened halibut tacos, which includes two huge tacos and a generous portion of housemade coleslaw. My dining companion went with a quesadilla which she said was lovely. We also made sure to save room for dessert, her having the brownie sundae, and I went with a crème brûlée, which I was very excited to learn was available at lunchtime. She loved her brownie sundae and it was quite large so a good portion of it went home with her. I didn't especially care for the crème brûlée; I might be a crème brûlée snob, I don't know! But everything else that we had was really great. There is a covered outdoor area that was very tempting, but the temps were up just a bit yesterday so we opted to eat inside. Ample parking was available and I love that even with the close proximity to downtown, there was no fee to park. Plan to go back sometime soon for prime rib! read more

I've tried this place a few times I er the years and it's just not good. I asked for the shredded chicken as an extra and it came out as pieces of thigh meat that tasted old. A little off the beaten path spot that is super fun and really good food. They have happy hour every day 3 to 6. Beers and cocktails at a great price. Five dollars. I enjoyed a vodka cranberry. The service is very prompt and friendly We each started off with a wedge salad from the happy hour menu. Man it was so delicious! Tons of tasty bacon, Lardon. A huge wedge of iceberg. Lots of cheese and a tasty creamy dressing. This was a huge win for me. We tried that side pasta plate. Penne, pasta, and an Alfredo sauce. Just the right portion for a happy hour treat. Came in around 5:30pm on a Friday evening. We got a seat at one of the long tables by the bar. Man those stools they you sit on there are way uncomfortable. I left there about 15 mins ago and my ass and back still hurt. She got the short ribs. They call them short ribs like the big beefs ribs but they are not. They are flank style ribs not beef short ribs. Oh well, that's mis advertising. She did it really like the ribs and neither did my friend. She did like the brussel sprouts and the mashed potatoes that came with it. I ordered a salad with my Ruben and ended up getting tater tots. I had to remind the waitress that I needed my salad. Plus, the waitress was kind of impatient when we sat down wanting to take our drink orders right away when we had not even had a chance to look at the beer menu. Omg the beer menu does not even tell you where the beers come from it just says IPA. Lol My Ruben had hot red peppers on it. Weird. Not much meat and tons of sour kraut. I ordered the Beet, apple, goat cheese salad. $15.00 (no protein included) This is one of my favorites salads, but Frontier definitely FAILED on their version. First of all, presentation... Should be served on a plate where you can see the nice big chunks of roasted beets, apple, goat cheese and nuts. Frontiers version was served in a bowl with minimal tiny bits of beets...apples? I don't often leave reviews unless they're deserved! This place was so good! The food was fresh and flavorful! We had their beet salad and Brussel sprouts as an appetizer and I think I will dream about the flavors of both! My husband had the rueben and only finished half (we got full from the apps) and even though we were running errands and weren't going straight home after he said "I need to take it home, it's too good to leave behind" My 2 picky kids loved their chicken strips which shocked me because they are CRITICS of chicken strips- especially the hand breaded ones and they loved them! A friend and I found ourselves in Hazel Dell yesterday. A quick search of lunch options led us to the Frontier.we were both happy with the outcome. Frontier is a friendly place, the kind of place where even though the servers know the names of the locals, they welcome strangers in with open arms. The menu is full of good, home cooked, real food. And the bar serves up delicious drinks with generous pours. My friend went with a cheeseburger and onion rings. The burger was thick, well cooked, dripping with cheddar. She loved the onion rings. They were light and airy, not greasy. And big. When I saw chicken and dumplings on the menu I knew what I had to order.a childhood favorite, its hard to find them these days. I make a pretty good version myself, but because they are time and labor intensive, not very often. The Frontier's version was thick, creamy (almost too much so), with tender chicken slices throughout. The dumplings are peppery, small, and kind of dense chewy rather than fluffy, but I finished them off. I also had a blueberry martini which had real berries in it bit was pretty kick ass and not overly sweet. Need to get out of the house on a Friday night and found Frontier Public House. I saw they had Halibut Fish and Chips so I was in, thinking about now I'm wondering if I was channeling my inner Catholic. The bar at the Frontier has a county /cowboy feel, unsurprisingly. The crowd seemed to be regulars out for dinner and a drink. The staff were very friendly. My sever was Cara. I started with the Frontier Old Fashioned. Well made and strong. I love a Luxardo cherry. I ask for food recommendations, mentioning leaning towards the F&C, it was not easy. The menu has a number of delicious sounding options. The Oyster Po Boy looked good and a guest next to me had the Mama's Reuben, the pastrami was piled on. Cara confirmed the Fish & Chips was a solid choice. The fish was fresh and the tempura was light and very little greasiness. While the pieces seemed small to this over sized human, like me, 2 2oz pieces might be a meal for most. I added a third piece and wasn't disappointed. Fries seem to be double fried, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Almost perfection Slaw has a little bit of a sour, in a good way, but it's nothing compared to the fish and fries. I'll be back to try more of their delicious drinks and food. read more

We came in for a late lunch on Friday. There were plenty of open tables and we were seated right away. They had a great list of drinks, alcoholic and non. My husband ordered a mango habanero drink which he liked. I had the non-alcoholic strawberry rosemary shrub. My kids ordered a shirley temple and apple juice. All around the drinks were good tasting and a good size. For food we ordered the nachos, fish and chips, kids burger, and kids grilled cheese. The nachos were so yummy and piled high with toppings. The fish and chips were good too. My youngest was a bit sad about the size of his hamburger ( it was a bit small) but he said it was tasty. My oldest had grilled cheese and tater tots. We all agree that the tater tots were really good. The food was really good and we found that it was a very good value. This is in my neighborhood. I had visited a couple of years ago and was totally unimpressed with their food - pretty much typical American fare not done particularly well (2 stars). Last night we went over again because it looked like they had a new menu online. The food was totally excellent! I had blackened halibut, which was cooked perfectly and had great complimentary salsa, black rice and asparagus. My partner had chicken marsala, which was also done quite nicely. Excellent eating experience at the Frontier Public House. The food tasted very fresh and wasn't super oily. My partner got the Reuben and it tasted like they made the pastrami there. Other places, it tastes like old deli meat. I got the burger without cheese since they only had Colby Jack and cheddar. I usually prefer Swiss on my burgers and they didn't have that option - which is fine! My water was filled up frequently and the bathroom was very clean. Have been here many times over the past 10 years and enjoyed it. Was going to Happy Hour because they had good tacos for $4.50 including fish or shrimp tacos. Yesterday was surprised to see the price for HH was $6 (for a taco????) and the would have to have a magnifying glass to find the shrimp. Apparently, the chef now cuts up the 3 shrimp per taco so it is the same size as the veggies inside and I could not tell what was shrimp and what was veggies. Very disappointing. Very good food. We have been here several times (one of our favorite spots). Always consistent, but it's not just the food that brings us back, it's the staff! Excellent service and always feel very welcome. Very comfortable being here. Ordered thru Post mates - wanting to try a local place we hadn't before. Their menu looked interesting...selected Fish & Chips. Fries were crispy but fish wasn't - not crispy and not too mushy but close. Coleslaw had an interesting twist - cilantro. Tarter sauce had a lot of "dill" to it. The sweet corn quesadilla was interesting. The smothered fries and gravy was slightly disappointing. Maybe it would have been better being delivered directly from kitchen to the table.
