    Fish and Chips
    Peggy M.

Went with a group of friends the other night. Our server was very attentive and helpful. A friend and I split a fish and chips, but since it comes with 3 pieces we ordered another piece. It was really good. The batter was shatteringly crisp and the halibut was good. I wasn't so impressed with the food my friends got. The steak was expensive and she was want impressed. The Reuben sandwich comes with pepper jack according to the menu. Hmmm...does that marry well with sauerkraut? Not to me. Anyway, this place seems like it needs a facelift. We weren't impressed with the rice cooker on a chair near the restrooms. It does have a casual vibe and like I said, the fish and chips were really tasty.

AMAZING service, our server was awesome! All of the food was phenomenal and I will be back! I wish I had taken more photos, my drink was great! I appreciated the delicious bacon cheeseburger and the tots had fabulous flavor! My girls and I had a blast and really enjoyed the environment!

Heard they had chicken and dumplings so I had to stop in and try them out. The dish was yummy and hearty. Not too salty, right amount of pepper and just a nice comforting meal. The portion was large so definitely enough for me to take home and have another meal. Service was prompt and they were nice. The ambiance was a little dark and overall a tad lacking. But I'll be back for the chicken and dumplings!

Big surprise!! First time meeting here for a book club luncheon. Very impressed with easy location, greeted by staff, quickly seated. The restaurant was an outdoorsy feel and clean. Their menu was plenty to choose from. I ordered the Buddha Bowl with Chicken. Delicious!! Nice looking presentation and very good. Others ordered Burgers to Pork and Brisket sandwiches. Every thing looked good and everyone was happy with their order. By the time we left, they were super busy. Definitely a local crowd pleaser. I would definitely comeback.

I've been meaning to check this place out for quite some time (I am newer to the area) and finally made it there yesterday for lunch. We had a delightful experience in our comfort, the service (Jane is an absolute peach!), menu variety, the food, and the prices. I had the blackened halibut tacos, which includes two huge tacos and a generous portion of housemade coleslaw. My dining companion went with a quesadilla which she said was lovely. We also made sure to save room for dessert, her having the brownie sundae, and I went with a crème brûlée, which I was very excited to learn was available at lunchtime. She loved her brownie sundae and it was quite large so a good portion of it went home with her. I didn't especially care for the crème brûlée; I might be a crème brûlée snob, I don't know! But everything else that we had was really great. There is a covered outdoor area that was very tempting, but the temps were up just a bit yesterday so we opted to eat inside. Ample parking was available and I love that even with the close proximity to downtown, there was no fee to park. Plan to go back sometime soon for prime rib!

A little off the beaten path spot that is super fun and really good food. They have happy hour every day 3 to 6. Beers and cocktails at a great price. Five dollars. I enjoyed a vodka cranberry. The service is very prompt and friendly We each started off with a wedge salad from the happy hour menu. Man it was so delicious! Tons of tasty bacon, Lardon. A huge wedge of iceberg. Lots of cheese and a tasty creamy dressing. This was a huge win for me. We tried that side pasta plate. Penne, pasta, and an Alfredo sauce. Just the right portion for a happy hour treat. Super creamy and delicious. Definitely coming back to this spot to try some other good eats They have a parking lot, so that was not an issue. Not sure how I missed the spot before but now I know!

Seating was uncomfortable cause they were having a private event so we had to do high tops. I had chicken fried oyster that tasted wonderful. Others had brisket sandwich that was huge. Nice crispy onion rings.

Came in around 5:30pm on a Friday evening. We got a seat at one of the long tables by the bar. Man those stools they you sit on there are way uncomfortable. I left there about 15 mins ago and my ass and back still hurt. She got the short ribs. They call them short ribs like the big beefs ribs but they are not. They are flank style ribs not beef short ribs. Oh well, that's mis advertising. She did it really like the ribs and neither did my friend. She did like the brussel sprouts and the mashed potatoes that came with it. I ordered a salad with my Ruben and ended up getting tater tots. I had to remind the waitress that I needed my salad. Plus, the waitress was kind of impatient when we sat down wanting to take our drink orders right away when we had not even had a chance to look at the beer menu. Omg the beer menu does not even tell you where the beers come from it just says IPA. Lol My Ruben had hot red peppers on it. Weird. Not much meat and tons of sour kraut. Plus, the bread on the bottom was soggy. Oh well, that place got packed. $64.00 for two for dinner with one beer each. Might not be back.

Food is great! We had the fried oysters, wedge salad, beet salad, brisket sandwich, shrimp pesto pasta, and kids mac & cheese. Everything was delicious. Super impressed with the kids mac & cheese! Cocktails were on point! Service was okay but it was a busy Friday night. Made a reservation but had to wait for a table anyways due to the already full restaurant. Kind of on the loud side since it's one large open room but definitely still easy to talk at the table. Love the casual vibe and outdoor area in the warmer months!

The area has developed quickly and having grown up nearby and moved away years ago, it's amazing to see what's happened along here. Prices - well, everyone has their hand out along here. We were in town somewhat last minute staying at Hotel Indigo. The hotel provides $10 drink coupons so we decided to drop in for an impromptu drink while planning our dinner strategy. It was already 7p so no view but live music and a nice buzzy ambiance. Wait staff were fast and friendly, and before we knew it two delicious cocktails were in front of us. At the same time, I overheard the waitress at the table beside us saying that food could be ordered from El Gaucho downstairs. So we asked for a menu and started perusing. If you don't know El Gaucho it's a classic steak restaurant with lots of cuts and sizes, a sprinkling of seafood, the usual salads, and tableside this and that. A notch above Ruth's Chris, Morton's or The Capital Grille but with Peter Luger Manhattan prices. Yes, that's right, Manhattan prices in Vancouver. WA. The Couv is all grown up. Or at least trying to be, Like Witness Tree, El Gaucho has a mandatory 20% gratuity regardless of party size. Theoretically this shouldn't be an issue if you know restaurant culture and tip appropriately but I think a mandatory fee rubs many wrong to assume service will always be at that level. And on top of very high prices. A $72 6oz filet is $86, so those 8 bites better be damn good. That said, we ordered oysters, a filet, seafood pasta, and wine. The wine list was decent but not as extensive for a premium steak restaurant. Wines had the typical markup which meant $20-35+ per glass. Both the pasta and steak were good but - and this may sound picky - at $72 for 6 ounces of steak (a bar of soap) I expect perfection which means medium rare throughout. The steak was medium in some parts. If I can achieve medium rare throughout at home it should be possible here. So here's the math (rounded) for those interested. Total bill: $295. $225 food and drinks, $45 service fee (mandatory 20%), and $24 tax (8.8%). Interestingly, the 20% service charge is taxed which means we actually paid $49 or 28.8%. Had I been given the choice of my own 20% tip it would be applied to food and drink and a slightly lower bill. Not a huge deal but these are the little details - call it "nickel and diming" patrons - that rub many wrong. One note - another server came to our table before our food arrived and placed a steak in front of me. Before he could place the other dish I told him it wasn't our order. He picked up the steak and delivered to another table. In most restaurants - and certainly in a premium setting - that dish should have been remade. Whether perception or simple hygiene you simply can't do that. All in all, the Witness Tree was a nice spot, with tasty cocktails and ambiance. Prices and service fee will be off putting for some, and not sure this would be my go-to as there are many rooftop / view options nearby.
