Dropped by on my way home for the first time today. Purchased 2 combo meals. Tri tip/chicken & ribs/sausage. Both meals were ordered with green beans and mac & cheese. The down and dirty: Meat: Not fresh, previously overcooked and refrigerated. Reheated and covered with a sauce when served in an attempt to mask their lack of pit skills.. (Sir, Would you like that sauce on the side?) Quality: Was given the fatty end cuts of the tri tip in lieu of slices. Flavor: Not there. Anyone with a Weber Original and charcoal can do better than this. On my way out with my order I asked the cook when they were going to get brisket on the menu, he stated that tri tip and brisket was the same thing... This is some good BBQ!! I come from Napa, CA and my dad is from Shreveport, Louisiana and he knows bbq and I have yet to find a comparable place and I found it here in Antioch! The tri tip was was delightful and had a perfect bark! The sausage was smoked to perfection with a nice char on the outside and super juicy. The chicken was amazing! It was not dried out like most places and the mild bbq sauce had such great flavor! The potato salad was amazing and had the perfect amount of Mayo and chopped boiled egg! The beans were good too! Nice and sweet in a thick sauce! The only disappointment on this plate was the cornbread muffin. It was burnt and dry! I expected better but maybe this was the off time to get a fresh cornbread? I wasn't impressed with this at all. All in all, if you want some great bbq with amazing sauce and the best flavors in town, I would highly recommend this place. Husband and I had a taste for BBQ do we decided to try Dad's as we remember when they were in Pittsburg and they were somewhat good then. I ordered over the phone and the young lady said it would be ready in 10 minutes which should have been a little red flag. When we arrived they had all the plates lined up which means all the food is sitting out NOT hot waiting for pickup. Both my husband and I ordered and entree which is called the lunch menu. We both got tri tip I got baked beans and he got potato salad. With one sweet potato pie and a peach cobbler. The tri tip on the surface looked ok but as you got a little deeper it was fatty so our plates were mostly fat. The bean were canned and the potato salad was runny. This is the best bbq I've had in California. I was a little iffy on eating here because my bbq standards are pretty high as a North Carolinian but I was surprised and super satisfied with the food. It's the type of bbq that makes you dance afterwards because you enjoyed it so much. I came here on a Sunday with a group. They are only allowing to go order at the moment. When we walked in, there was only one person ahead of us, and it didn't take long to order. I had the entree which comes with a meat and two sides (but i added an extra side because I tend to overeat). I had the potato salad, baked beans and green beans. They ask if you want your sauce to be spicy or mild. The spicy is really spicy, really good. The potato salad was a tad bit peppery, but still really good. They give you a good two scoops. The baked beans are cooked with pork, but the meat is taken out before served. The greens are cooked with smoked turkey and I think it's made with fresh greens and not from a can. The green beans are cooked with potatoes and no meat. The green beans were very tasty, but my favorite side was the baked beans! I also tried the cornbread and it's alright. It's not sweet (because cornbread should NOT be sweet) but I didn't love it. As a try bbq spot, they give you slice bread--two slices of wheat bread. Yum! This is the second time I've tried Dad's. Both times the meat was cold. The potato salad isn't consistent, the 1st I liked it the 2nd time, no flavor. I received 3 tablespoons of very cold baked beans. I asked for medium sauce and received the sweetest sauce ever. The sweet potato pie filling was overly sugary. The pie crust wad flaky but had a weird after flavor taste leading me to believe that it may have been store bought or not made with butter. I think I'll pass on a third try. read more

Although the price is slightly higher than some other bbq joints, I still like to come here for their food. Their bbq sauce is very smokey, and al their meat is tender, juicy and moist- never over done. We went to this joint two weeks ago and had a great experience. The tri-tip was excellent. Last night we had a horrible experience and will probably never go here again. The ribs were chewy and not fall-off-the bone at all. They couldn't even cut the sausage properly. It was sliced in a few places, but not completely through, and there were some huge pieces left uncut. It's not difficult to slice a sausage. The worst part was the collard greens. It was FULL of bones! What the heck?!? Bones in a vegetable? I understand you cook it in some kind of turkey mix, but take the freaking bones out! I almost ate a spoonful with a huge bone in it. You folks are going to get sued with that kind of horrible food preparation. Take the bones out! Anyway . . . this place is very inconsistent and they don't take much pride in their food preparation. We ordered chicken, pork ribs and tri tip. The pork ribs had more bone than meat. I mean really, there was hardly any meat at all in these things. So those were a waste of time. Then there's the chicken, only two of the pieces were edible. And the tri tip, meh it was over cooked for my taste. Another thing to note, everything was drowned in BBQ sauce. This is the first bbq place I've been to that puts bbq sauce on the food. Every other place I've been to, they let the flavor of the smoked meat stand alone and provide sauce on the side if you want some. Now for the drinks!! If you can't read the menu pictures or can't believe your eyes, a 12 oz can of soda is $2.60!!!! Are you kidding me!!!! Charging $2.60 for a soda that costs what, .20?? They did provide ONE napkin for us. We had to ask for more as there were none in the table. To top this experience off, as we were leaving we saw an empty one gallon jug of bbq sauce in the trash can outside the door. Probably the best thing in the plate though to be honest. Ribs: Definitely needed more smoke flavor and were tough to eat. The sauce was actually decent but there wasn't much of it at all. Chicken: I had a leg and a bunch of chopped up hunks of what I assume was chicken breast. The chicken breast was dry. Chicken leg was OK. This is your run of the mill, uncle or dad's backyard BBQ. Ordered take out here. I got the 3 meat plate (chicken, ribs, and tri tip). With a side of collard greens and Mac and cheese. Also got the corn bread, banana pudding and peach cobbler. BBQ sauce was good. Mac and cheese was a little on the dry side. Nothing too special but they charge extra for it. I was disappointed to find that you only get 2 pieces of ribs. Corn bread was dry asf. Banana pudding was ok. Haven't tried the peach cobbler but it smelled kinda funny so I'm nervous to try it. Didn't smell fresh (like it's been made days ago). My husband and I have been eyeing this place since we moved to the area and finally decided to try it last night. We got chicken, ribs, mac n cheese, potato salad, green beans, and cornbread muffins. The portions were decent, however, the food could have been better in my opinion. I will say, my chicken breast was really moist and tender and the mac n cheese didn't disappoint. The wing however was waaaay overcooked (either that or it had been sitting out all day). It was literally tougher than beef jerky and entirely inedible. The potato salad was not good, but I also saw in one of the reviews that it's very inconsistent, so hopefully I just got a bad batch. Overall, this place was okay. I may give it a second try (minus the potato salad) and go earlier in the day rather than waiting until late in the evening to order. I had the opportunity to visit Dad's BBQ yesterday evening. They were really busy, but we were in no hurry. It's hard to find good BBQ and I must say the food was delicious, even the potato salad and greens were really good. Since moving to Stockton it's hard to find good BBQ. We happened to be in Antioch for a Juneteenth celegration and wanted some good food and chose Dad's. Very pleased with the flavor, the taste, the portion size and the pleasant service. The crew was a bit overwhelmed with walk-ins and delivery drivers like Doordash, but they remained pleasant. Thanks, my husband, son, and myself will definitely return.
