All I can say is stay away from this place. The old man behind the counter acts like a complete idiot to everyone who walks through the door. From his unkept appearance and the looks of the coffee shop neither have been cleaned anytime lately. He's nasty and so was his coffee. This guy is a real piece of work and needs therapy, but he'd just blame his mom. We were having a nice ride thru the Redwoods and stopped for some coffee. I don't mind paying for overpriced coffee since I work for a living, but to be treated like a stupid, cheap tourist from someone who boils water for a living is where I draw the line. If this guy has a pair his sign would say...locals only and 4:20 friendly - tourists not welcome! And so as I rode away I was struck by the thought of how grateful I was not to be him. Being a coffee addict and having lived in a suburb of a big city for most of my life, it was refreshing to visit a coffee shop that wasn't an impersonal chain. I've read the other reviews and my experience was quite different! Not to mention some of the best or the best coffee (maybe the organic thing does make a difference?) the man at the counter actually joked with us and guided us towards the better things to do- invaluable advice !!!! The Service: It wasn't a corporate experience!!! I think that's what the other people wanted! If you're looking for local advice and someone who will joke around with you instead of the monotonous "can i take your order, sir?" then this is the place for you! The guy (owner?) at the counter opened up (we were polite though- shouldn't that be expected?) and gave us tips (skip the drive-thru tree, go to this place for free range burgers, stop here to see the redwoods, and talked a lot about some reggae festival that I can't remember the name of....) Definitely made our trip better! He's got a great sense of humor - I just wished there was more- or one by me at home but then it would lose it's charm!!! The Coffee: All organic and a wide variety! Starbucks, or 'starsucks' as the man I think was the owner referred to it as, has awful plain coffee. I was road tripping with my best friend from high school and she, being a health freak, got a delicious mango smoothie with fresh fruit. The Place: The walls are a comfy yellow brown and the shop exudes personality. Funny signs like "you can sleep when you're dead" and a map to mark where you're from coat the walls. Wow. What a dump. Where some saw sassy, we saw nasty. We came through on bicycles and planned to stop for a drink and stretch. Greeted out front by a diffident millennial who was happy to remind us of the sign that made it clear you couldn't park bikes in front (not that anyone else was there). We got this nugget as she sucked on a cigarette in front of the no smoking sign. Decided anyway to grab a drink from our water bottles, but finally fled when - no kidding - the flies got too thick. If you need supplies, mush on a few more miles to Miranda where there a couple of nice stores that serve the same stuff. Only nicer. And without attitude. read more

Cute small town coffee shop. Some people don't like the passive agressive decor, like "Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks" or the hunting pictures. But I think it's charming. What matters is the espresso drinks are delicious. If you are camping nearby, good luck finding another espresso joint without driving 15-20+ minutes in either direction. I've always had good service. Only one time, this guy, who might have been the owner, was annoyed that it was almost closing and we ordered something (with half and half) that he needed to go next door to the grocery mart and buy. That is a common thing in this area....people running out of stuff and having to run to the grocery store to restock. Be warned that the hours are very flexible in this small town. read more

Last December, I stopped in this eclectic place for a coffee to go. Eclectic for the strange crafts and such on display. I received a friendly refill for my traveler and hit thw roaf. The young lady who served me was pleasant and efficient, and the coffee was excellent. i make frequent Northcoast trips, and I'm keeping this spot in my list of stops. My family and I were camping at the spectacular Humboldt Redwoods State Park, this place is right outside of it. I asked if I could get an iced coffee. The woman behind the counter says," Sure, I could do that." Which makes me think she's going to pour hot coffee over ice. I ask her, and she says no, its cold coffee. The owner says we can make it that way if you want, but there's an edge to his voice and he's been crabbing at the woman and another guy since I walked in. No biggie, the iced coffee was expensive, but OK. The next day we stop there again, my 4 year old was having a bathroom emergency and I needed a coffee. Kid starts saying he can't hold it any longer. I poke my head in see there's no way there's a bathroom in there. Kids dancing around, the owner walks up. I ask him if there's a bathroom nearby. "Hellloooooo" he yells. Its true, i didn't make small talk, but didn't want my kid peeing on his doorstep. "Across the street behind the laundromat" he mumbles and starts walking away. I look across the street, there's a hotel or something. I look down the way, don't see it. I say, "laundromat?" "ACROSS THE STREET BEHIND THE LAUNDROMAT!" he says. I finally see the place and say "Thanks, you're a SUPER nice guy." He turns around and says, "You're the guy who didn't even say hello before asking to use my restroom, so don't give me that crap!" Wow... I let my kid pull down his pants and pee on his driveway. I see now that the other two reviews also mention the fact that he was a jerk. Glad its not just me. read more

The coffee is great and sure there may be some attitude coming from behind the counter, but only if you ask obvious questions such as "do you sell coffee?" Went to the Daily Grind to meet Jessie and see what all the excitement is about. A man of few words and his coffee can't be beat. Best coffee mocha ever! If you have a sense of humour and want some fun conversation its a great rest stop on your way to Oregon. One star too many. Being there was no wifi, I couldn't check Yelp. Wish I could have, seeing there is a pattern of bad service and continued on. Being a business owner myself, this kind of behavior I find APPALLING! I wouldn't dare dream of acting like this with my customers. We stayed in the nearby campground and wanted coffee on our way down the coast. Big mistake going here for what Jesse calls a cappuccino. He wouldn't know an cappuccino if it came and bit him in the ass. You should be selling jerky, jerk. Irritates the hell out of me that we gave him any money. He needs to be put out of business and pronto. Jesse, who looks like a dirty, overweight, homeless person standing outside to two equally dirty disheveled guys and one rather large woman from the store next door, chatting. You go in for coffee and he doesn't even come in, just continues talking. Finally he saunters in slowly (in front of all these equally rude signs directed at CUSTOMERS who put, it seems, a lot of food on your table) I ask a question about payment he accepts FOR HIM and he walks out! For the past 10 years, my husband and I have taken a Pacific Coast Highway road trip from Orange County to the Redwoods (sometimes as far North as Oregon!). When we arrive in Myers Flat, we always stop in to the Daily Grind. We love Jessie, the owner, whose family own several of the stores along this quaint boulevard. His delightful coffee shop is strewn with comic cut outs and clever coffee related items. The coffee is always delicious and the prices are beyond reasonable. There are a few places to sit inside, though I don't know why you would, when you can sit outside the shop and enjoy the fresh air, redwood view, and people watch. The best part is? Folks from around the world are here to enjoy the national and state forests here, so there is ample opportunity to meet people on their various adventures, and the stories they have to tell are always fascinating. Next door, you will find a small grocery store to stock up for your camping needs, a charming antique store, and the Myers Inn across the street. The people here are down to earth and friendly. I visited this coffee shop and the owner, Justin was incredibly rude to me and my friend. First, we came in and I asked if there was wifi. He said no. Then, I ordered coffee and as I was getting my money out, Justin stepped around the counter and began chatting with another customer. Meanwhile, my friend noticed the coffee urn was empty so when Justin finally came back to the register I told him politely that the coffee urn was empty. He said "so.. what do you want me to do about it? Do you want me to make more coffee?!" I was shocked at his rudeness. Then, as if he forgot he had already taken my coffee order, he asked me loudly and rudely if I was ready and my friend and I just decided to leave at that point. As we were walking out, he yelled at us "you guys suck! Off with your heads!" It was craziness! I had never before been treated so rudely by someone. My husband and I stopped in for coffee yesterday and I 100% regret giving this place business. The female barista was nice and accommodating. The man, who seemed to be the owner, was a total asshole. We ordered coffee and a bagel. Went to fill up our coffee and two out of the three urns were out. Told the barista this and she was busy doing something else. I picked up the two urns to bring to her at which point the owner flew in the door with some water from next door. In a huff, he yanked the urns out of my hands, slammed them on the table where they started and muttered to himself. A few other customers who observed what happened left. We backed away and waited outside for the coffee to brew. As we sat outside, we overhead the man complain to the barista that I was the second customer today to not realize that the f-ing coffee maker is sitting right on the table, and somehow *he* is the bad guy. So sorry I didn't see the coffee maker on the table. God forbid a customer try to be helpful. Next time I'll try to be an asshole and yell that there is no coffee in a coffee shop to match your style. Maybe then you'll appreciate that customers are coming into your store to bring you business. read more

She was snappy and arrogant and made it very clear that she did not want our business. For example, when my wife asked if she toasted bagels she said "The toaster is right in front of you" in a very condescending tone. My wife and I came to Myers Flat after escaping the fires in June 2008. The inn in Myers Flat, across from Daily Grind, is charming and the proprietors are sweet. Unfortunately, we would never return to the town because of this coffee place and the man who runs it. Though he was laughing and joking with a Myers Flat resident when we arrived, he soon turned hostile when his friend left. He made it very clear he did not want our business. I fixed myself a cup at his do-it-yourself station and tried to hand him the cash. He refused, so I left the money on the counter. We couldn't help but feel that his behavior was racially motivated. The experience made me sick to my stomach. I can't say it enough. Do not go to this place. read more
