First time at this location. Absolutely enjoyed my time here with my partner. We went through the drive-thru so I was not able to see what the inside look like. I loved my meal and felt stuffed when I was done. I ordered the "meal deal" which cost $7.00 and it came with a burger, ice cream, fries and a soda. Great deal. My partner ordered a crispy Buffalo sandwich that came with fries and a soda. He was very pleased with it. Fries were excellent. There was also outside seating! By the time we got done with our meal we had to force our selves to finish the ice cream lol. Our total bill came to exact $19.00. To me, that was great. We will be back again. read more

The server was so rude to me, she was giving me a lot of attitude, I believe the name on the receipt was Rylie? It really made me not want to go back, but when I did the service was fine because she wasn't the one serving me. She also grabbed my card out of my hand aggressively. read more

Now, I've been to dairy queen a million times before, but have never considering writing a review in the past (mostly because I never knew about Yelp! in the past...go figure...) But on this most recent visit my wife and I decided to stop out and grab some food from here since we felt like grabbing some soft serve and we haven't been here in what seemed like forever. Initially we planned on going out and just grabbing some food and dinning inside at the small dining hall that they have available but it was packed! I mean for a small shop and the more than ample amount of business that they pull in (mainly because its the only one in the region and practically the only soft serve place within probably 20 minutes of the town of Ghent); we weren't shocked at all by this. So as a result we opted to just hit the drive thru. We both ordered the meal options of their chicken sandwiches (I had the grilled while my wife opted for the fried). Also while there we couldn't pass up the choice of getting a signature blizzard! Food prices were relatively decent for what you could expect. Not the best value in pricing but again not the most expensive either. Food came out fresh and hot from the kitchen. Only downside I would probably claim about the sandwiches would be that even though having the classic lettuce, tomato, and mayo on them; it seemed like they almost forgot to even add mayo. I mean I don't want the sandwich drowning in it, but at least enough to let me know that its actually there. The blizzards were great! Of course in signature fashion they took one of the two and flipped it upside down (a trademark of theirs). My wife chose the "chocolate lovers" (which I believe was a new choice, and of course made it complete with chocolate ice cream...kind of ironic to have it with vanilla) and I opted for the summer berry cheesecake. Both were great! Just wish that they would have put the spoons separate from the ice creams instead of trying to jam it into the lid that was designed for a sundae and not the blizzard. But c'est la vie. Over all, a decent place and good food. Its kind of become a must stop location while in the region or just driving through. And who doesn't love a place that invokes a sense of nostalgia? I'd certainly come back, just because its always been good food, great ice cream and a great memory from when I was a kid. read more

I have always been a fan of Dairy Queen (aka DQ) since I was small. This Dairy Queen on Route 66 in Ghent has been around for a very long time. I have traveled here (30 miles each way) several times over the years to get my Blizzard fix since this DQ location was the closest to my home back in the 1980s. This Dairy Queen with drive thru and inside seating offers the full menu including burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, fries, salads and the full line of ice cream treats including sundaes, dip cones, Blizzards, and more. They also carry ice cream cakes in the freezer to take home. The Coca Cola fountain drinks are self serve in the cozy dining room which has several booths and classic DQ pictures on the wall. Each time I've been here on the weekends, the place is pretty busy, probably due to the fact that there are no other fast food chain restaurants in this area for over 10 miles with the nearest fast food options in Valatie and Greenport. The service at this location is friendly and prompt. I was in here not too long ago for lunch on a very hot day. I ordered a $5 Lunch deal (offered before 4PM), which included 3 Chicken Strips, Fries, Medium Soft Drink (with refills), and a Sundae (I got peanut butter sauce on mine). Even though the place was busy with a line at the counter, I received my completed order (they gave me a number placard to place at my table) from a staff member in about 3 minutes. The food was on the greasy side, but very tasty. The peanut butter sundae with vanilla soft serve ice cream was definitely the best part of my lunch! I shall return here again very soon! read more

We were in the country, but clearly felt like we were in the ghetto. We went here on the way to an outdoor art exhibit in Ghent, and decided it was time to get some food. There was not much else around but we figured that since there is no Dairy Queen near where we live, we could cross this off our fast food restaurant bucket list. I can safely say that we will not be returning to this Columbia County Curiosity. Ordering: So we walked into the dining area up to the ordering line, and the first thing that threw me was the fact that the menu was far to the left, and you could not see it when you are in the line. You have to step out of line to actually see the menu. That was super frustrating because in normal fast food restaurants, the menu is front and center and you can read it while you wait in line. Not the case here. We managed to cobble together our order despite this because my friends who I was there with all have 20/10 vision and I'm pretty sure that they are secret agents, or snipers. Waiting...: We waited a considerable amount of time for our food to be ready. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger, and fries. Time to eat: We sat down outside, because the dining room was quite crowded. We also had a dog in our company, which may have had something to do with eating outside. While he was chasing bumble bees and being a dog, we ate our food. The burger was sub par at best, with WAY too much mayo. The bacon was not crispy at all, and the fries were soggy like the Louisiana coastline after the BP oil spill. The food was also lukewarm at best. Conclusion: I wish that I could get that time back in my life, because the food was dreadful, ordering was awkward and the service was slow and anything but expedient. Avoid this place if you are looking for something a little tastier. I'd take McDonald's over this DQ, and that is saying a lot. read more

As we all know, Dairy Queen is a franchise, and as such, your mileage may vary. With that said, this particular restaurant is a local landmark. Some might even say, the only remarkable landmark in the entire Hamlet of Ghent. It has been serving patrons for many decades, and is quite well known around the area; with interest only growing considering the next closest restaurant is 35 mi. away. I would recommend avoiding the drive up during the summer, it's regularly a 15-30 min. wait. Other than that, you can expect a standard fast food experience. read more

Hit here the other nite w wife after long day.Stopped in at actually 8PM.They close at 8:30PM.Wife ordered a chicken sandwich w fries and I the Bacon Cheeseburger meal.We had about a 10 minute wait as we were in the drive thru line aand there were 4 cars in front of us.Food came out HOT.HOT Hot.Fries were crispy like I like,wife said her chicken sandwich was moist and HOT.There are only two DQ's in Capital District but we've tried both and I can.t say enough good about.Small chain can gv you better service.We sat in parking lot and ate there.They closed later than 8:30PM.When all the customers were taken care of. read more

If this review had happend three years ago, I would have left a much lower rating. However, in the past few years they have updated the building and the service has improved greatly. Even the restrooms are much nicer. The food is typical dairy queen fare, I don't care much for the Brazier options but they have very good soft service ice cream and Blizzards and that's all I care about. As a family of (4) we drive here about twice per week. The ice cream is great but service and menu selection seems to grow more and more disappointing. Our last 3 visits they didn't have the grill running and were out of quite a few selections. However last night my husband took my daughter in to go to the bathroom and order at the counter. It was about 7:30 and he was told the indoor service was closed and he had to go to the drive thru. He got in line and then a woman came out and stood behind our vehicle at 7:40 to walk with us to the order window. We saw 8 vehicles turned away before the advertised 8 pm close time (I notice yelp has changed the close time) and heard numerous people told there was no food available. I counted 9 employees. I understand labor shortages and inventory shortages but couldn't imagine any "family owned and operated" business would be wishing for so much business to be turned away. Not to mention the employees were running out of the back door to serve friends in vehicles in the parking lot while turning away paying customers. We parked in the parking lot to eat our ice cream and just watch. We live a couple towns over and drive about 20-25 min here each way, per trip. I guess we will just stay local read more

A few weeks ago when we came in here, after looking for the Columbia Co. fairgrounds nearby, I was astounded. Was a bit cold and I don't think the employee heard us too well. He tried to repeat the order back, but it seemed like he couldn't keep up. Order came out a little wrong. Not too badly messed up, but it was wrong. We're not one for Dairy Queen ice cream, but the ones we did get came out right. It was the other foods that were cooked, but didn't seem like they were out of the oven/fryer. Was amazed at your bathroom system that you set up. When I went in the sign said that it was the men's room. However, it seemed like that sign wasn't heeded at all. As I was using the toilet (one person type of restroom), I got a knock on the door. It was a woman. Her kids were nearby, but the kids were able to knock. As I came out a little later, I watched the mother head into the man's bathroom. -That's not right. I then looked to see if I could find a women's room. Yeah - they got one - it's around the corner near the door. I don't think they saw it. I don't think I'll ever return to this one again. Still not enthused with the Dairy Queen brand, and this trip to this particular one was much like all the other's I've tried before near me. read more

Come here for: a warm blast of nostalgia, served cold and dipped in chocolate. _____________ When I was a kid, DQ was reserved for special occasions like a straight-A report card or a base hit in Little League. (Admittedly, in my case, the latter scenario was much less common than the former.) I always told myself that when I was grown up, I'd eat at DQ all the time, just because it was awesome and just because I could. Fast forward a few years, and DQ is still reserved for special occasions, like celebrating a new client or a good round of golf. (Same caveat as above.) Thanks to grown-up concerns like calories and glycemic index, I don't get here as often as I envisioned ... but when I do, I'm like a happy kid again. This particular store has been around for like 30 years, so it really is a blast from the past, right down to the barn-style roof and the picnic tables on the lawn. (A flat-roofed DQ in the parking lot of a strip mall just doesn't do it for me.) Ten minutes after you've left, you won't remember the food or the ice cream, but you WILL remember how good it felt to be 10 years old. **Major bonus points for dog-friendliness: Pets are welcome at the picnic tables, and the kids at the drive-through will ask if you want a free small cup of soft serve for your dog. read more

My wife and I stop here quite often in the winter as this Dairy Queen is open all year. The people that work here are very nice and they always get your order correct. It has inside seating and very clean rest rooms. We often just tai a ride up this way and stop at other stores along the way because we are getting lunch up here. We leave in northern Dutchess county and we like the ride past all the farms. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. Second time I ordered a cake from this place and it looks like a child wrote out the Happy Birthday on it. The girl at the counter first stated she couldn't find the receipt, and wanted payment; so my husband produced the receipt. When he said something about the writing on the cake, she said she didn't want to hear about it. The first cake was a year and a half ago for my other son. It was supposed to be a Giants themed cake, and looked like a child had drawn the logos onto it. Professional, definitely not. Will never use this place again. I can grab a carvel cake from my local supermarket and they will write on it for me, and not look like a 5 yr old did it. read more

I must say I was impressed with my recent stop here at Dairy Queen in Ghent, Ny .... placed my order .... wait time was short and sweet ( about 15 mins ) the food was very good ( hot ) a complete change up to my last visit here .... ordered 2 chocolate shakes .... half hour wait ( no they were not busy ) and they got the order wrong ( 1 chocolate - 1 vanilla ) quite an improvement to say the least. read more
