Free cone day!
Meghan W.

This dairy queen is located near The stand in Oceanside. Parking was challenging. They don't have a parking lot. It's all street parking. We came on free cone day. It was about 230pm and there was only 4 people ahead of us. I was expecting a long line. They were busy. The staff were great considering how busy they were. We only got the ice cream cone. We had to wait about 10 minutes.

I was craving some ice cream and came in for the Oreo Blizzard. Service was fast. The young lady held it upside down before handing it to me which was cool. The restroom could be a bit clearer though.

I placed my online Door Dash order on their app this morning at 11a.m. I was in the mood to order a different kind of burger from the Dairy Queen Grill & Chill Restaurant. I love this restaurant and I grew up eating out at Dairy Queen Grill and Chill with my parents and my younger sister.

There just aren't a lot of Dairy Queen locations in California, so when I have the opportunity to stop in one, I often do so. I really enjoy their soft serve ice cream, and I found this particular location serves chocolate as well as the traditional vanilla. That's not always the case at many other DQ locations. My absolute favorite is a chocolate soft serve with a chocolate dip, and you can get that here!

Chicken tenders with coupons mailed in always hit the spot. I think the staff is nice as well.

I would happily make questionable life decisions for another scoop of it. But honestly, what made this experience stand out wasn't just the gelato--it was Venezia. Huge shoutout to her for being so patient while we stood there completely incapable of making a decision. Instead of rushing us, she took the time to help us figure out what flavors we actually wanted and gave us recommendations that absolutely did not miss. She was incredibly sweet, genuinely welcoming, and made the whole experience so much better. And listen, this place is about an hour drive for me. An HOUR. Yet I'm already planning my return trip because the quality of the gelato and the service made it 100% worth it. If you're anywhere near this place, do yourself a favor and stop by. The gelato is ridiculously creamy, packed with flavor, and made with the kind of quality you can taste immediately. Dare I say it... the creaminess might even be better than An's Gelato . 10/10. Came for the gelato, left wanting to be friends with Venezia

Love that the menu says "Not on the menu, just ask :)" that's so awesome! They stay pretty busy and it's pretty small inside. we ended up trying the Indian food next door and totally recommend that too!

So, whaddaya do in Oceanside (aka: "O'side", to me at least), after a nice lunch with a Yelp Friend…read moreyou met in person for the first time? Ya knock around on the O'side Beach, making your way slowly toward the famous Oceanside Pier, THAT'S what ya do. I absolutely love The O'side Pier, and try to make time for a trip there, anytime I'm in Escondido. It doesn't make it more difficult that it's the closest place to get to the Pacific, driving from E-town. Google up The Oceanside Pier; it's got quite a history. Ya know how they say: "There's always room for Jell-o"? Well, the same could be said for Italian Ice. Similar to Ice Cream, it contains NO Dairy (in case you're lactose-intolerant), and is simply DELICIOUS! You're not "delicious-intolerant", are ya? Which brings me to Skweezrz New York Italian Ices. "Italian Ice Joe" is set up right at the base of the ramp you walk up, to get onto The Pier itself. Great location; even greater fare. Joe's a really cool guy; I hung around long enough to see how great and easy he is with people of all kinds, be it kids, surfers, the ladies, or that annoying guy that talks your ear off, and just won't LEAVE (uh, that'd be...me). He offers every passer-by a free sample, and I warn ya; if you sample, you WILL buy! Of course, Joe offered me a "free one" (no not "that" kind). Sadly, he was out of my favorite fruit flavor (Cherry), so I had to "settle" for Strawberry; it sure didn't feel like settling. I may eat more Ice Cream than Italian Ice (as a general rule), but I really don't know why. The flavor was AMAZING! Couple that with the fact that it's gotta be lower in calories (something I could do with less of), and has a MUCH fresher finish. Compared to Ice Cream (or even frozen Yogurt), it's a way healthier choice. And it seems to quench your thirst, at the same time it's soothing your mouth with sweet, fruity coolness. Joe's got every flavor under the Sun (tho there was no Sun itself today); all the expected fruits, plus a chocolate flavor Joe sez tastes just like a Tootsie Roll. Or if ya can't decide, have him mix ya up a "Rainbow"; I can't remember if that's what he called it, but you get the idea (I posted a pic of one). Joe's got 'em ALL! It's NOT just getting a cup of frozen stuff; no, it's a whole "experience", it really is. The cool Italian Ice will soothe your mouth and cleanse your palette, and Joe's perpetual good mood is infectious. If you don't leave with a lighter spirit just by hangin' around the guy, you're a lost cause. The Italian Ice will cost ya (tho not very much at all); the uplifting spirit is FREE. If you're in Oceanside, you gotta take a trip to the O'side Pier. Take a walk all the way to the end and have a chat with the Pelicans, but don't get too close (they WILL attack, and I'm not kidding). And above all else, ya GOTTA stop by Skweezrz New York Italian Ice cart, say hi to Joe, and have a cup of frozen cheer. Tell him Larry sent ya! larrythediner .

You cannot drive to this location, but there is tons of parking and you can walk the boardwalk and enjoy some Italian refreshing ice! Their Italian rainbow (cherry, lime, lemon), blueberry, coconut and mango ate all flavors I've tried or sampled and all taste DELICIOUS! Went yesterday and they had something new! Diablito Rica for just $5 and that includes; 3 scoops of mango ice, chamoy, tajin and a tamarindo stick, it was happiness in my mouth! I opted out one scoop of mango for Italian rainbow ice. They didn't skimp on the tajin and chamoy either and you can add the extras to any scoop(s) of Italian ice, if you don't like mango. If you ever find yourself in Oceanside on a hot day and are looking for a refreshing treat, try this place, I promise you won't be disappointed! They are super friendly and their samples are very generous! Enjoy!

For dinner I ordered the tri-tip sando. It was excellent but the chimichurri was a bit too strong so I wasn't able to taste much of anything else...the hubs liked it more than I did. The hubs ordered the Pig burger. Two patties...one beef and one pork with bacon jam, white cheddar and bread/butter pickles. The patties were cooked perfectly and the sweet bacon jam was a perfect addition (I'll be ordering this next visit) Both sandwiches came with thin sliced fries. The online descriptions appear to be heavily embellished (likely AI-generated), promising far more than what arrives at the table. The steak was noticeably low quality, and the cioppino, advertised with fresh bread, fish, and pasta, tasted like watered-down Campbell's soup concentrate. To make matters worse, the bathroom was filthy. While our waiter was genuinely nice, the food was a huge disappointment. For the price, it was frustrating and disheartening to pay premium rates for such a poor experience. We cannot recommend this place and will not be returning.

Made our way down there 15 minutes later, had to wait about 10 minutes for the pizza no biggie (we got lucky with parking but it's a bit tricky as that area is pretty crowded on weekend evenings). The restaurant was packed, cool and comfortable decor (some OG skate decks on the wall), plenty of open space and fresh air flowing. Would definitely have eaten at the restaurant had time permitted. Staff was very friendly and helpful, even gave us some extra ranch dressings without charging us (which many places don't do). which was very appreciated. Also noticed they had many beers in top, had ice cream and soft serve offerings for dessert, and some signs posted around the restaurant advertising some pretty good lunch specials. The pizza itself was pretty good. Super fresh toppings, sourdough crust which was very tasty but would have preferred a bit more char and crunch (probably need to order pizza a little well done next time). The cheese/sauce ratio was on point. The ranch dressing (I don't eat it with pizza - but wanted to taste it separately) was really good - fresh dill in it, which I am a fan of. Overall, a good experience...will for sure go back to try some other pizzas/offerings. Definitely recommended!
