Photobomber says, "A Mr. Misty is really refreshing on a hot summer day"!
    Jim C.

6/21/18 This Dairy Queen has been on the corner of South Colony Road and Ward Street for over 55 years, occupying this same little building. It's practically an icon in Wallingford. They've been serving up ice cream, floats, and assorted other frozen treats, and now a hot dog, if that's what you're craving, for all those 55+ years. I've been enjoying those assorted frozen treats since at least 1964. It brought back fond memories today, of my youth and early adulthood when I came here most every day in the summer of 1970, after working construction nearby in the hot summer sun, and ordering a nice big Mister Misty to refresh me. The young man who almost invariably took my order would say, "fooorty fiiiiive!", meaning 45 cents, in a sing song way as he put the drink on the service counter. Very memorable! And yes, that's how much a large Mister Misty cost in the summer of 1970. It still had that refreshing effect on me today as I sipped my strawberry-kiwi Mister Misty through a straw as I drove home. Ahhhhhhhh, YES! Those are the good times.

Service - it's okay - the kids working there seem nice but they were forgetful when it came to the order. No had ordered waffle cones on the side and when I got home, they were not there. They were friendly enough but lacked attention to detail. Ambiance was ehhh. I wanted and expected a feel of a craft homemade establishment and it lacked that entirely. The board was hard to read and the overall place seemed big but with nothing in it. The best word I could come up with was it felt very sterile. Not a place I'd want to stay in long but more of a get my ice cream and go. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars because of this but the ice cream really is tasty!

This…read moreshop has a lot of options from hard ice scream, sundaes, flights, Italian ice, and treats for the fur-kids. They have a long list of ice cream flavors from their specialty cannoli, cake batter, cotton candy, black raspberry and more. The also have a ton of toppings and sauces. I got a chocolate dipped waffle cone with a scoop of blueberry swirl and coconut. The shop is very large with two fun photo op walls. All the toppings are on display at the counter. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. There are many picnic tables outside to enjoy your ice cream. I also thought the trash can painted like an ice cream cone was a great touch. I will be coming back again because I'd love to try their Neil's Donut Sundae. Neil's Donuts is right up the street.

Loved both flavors, but the Almond with Toasted Coconuts really stole my heart...and tastebuds. One of the best flavors of ice cream I've ever had...period! ++++ Strawberry and Cranberry with Dark Chocolate Chunk - Once again, so creamy for ice cream. These fruity flavors were phenomenal! Not too sweet and so natural tasting. No "artifical-ness" whatsoever. Being the hugely obsessive strawberry ice cream fanatic that I consider myself to be, this might have been the best strawberry ice cream I've ever tasted. + Menu consist of some very delicious-sounding and interesting flavors, including the Almond and Sweet Cream ones mentioned above, Pumpkin with Ginger Molasses and Eggnog. + Two employees were very friendly, engaging and informative about the most popular flavors. + Taste-testing is certainly allowed. + Two benches for customers to sit on inside, but there is plenty of standing room to walk around and admire the farm cow photos on the wall. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Like most ice cream shops, there was no restroom available for customers, so make sure to empty those tanks below the belt before arriving. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Even on a chilly March Saturday evening at around 6 PM, there were PLENTY of folks willing to freeze their tastebuds off here, so that tells you enough about how good the ice cream is here. = Conveniently located right around the corner from the Yale University campus, so you can enjoy your delicious ice cream with some of the world's brightest minds in your company. = According to their story, all of the ice cream served here is naturally produced from the milk of some of their 300 cows, which are housed at Arethusa Farm near Litchfield, CT, hence why their ice cream is so naturally smoooooooth and refreshing and doesn't have a hint of artificial taste in them. Nuff' said!
