New (ugly) Paint Job; Also, now offering Orange Julius.
    Kurt W.

Bottom line: Above average product, Unique Buster Bars, Hit or Miss Qualified Staff. Overview: As long as I have been a resident of Affton (just under 40 years), I have been a customer of this Dairy Queen (DQ). There is a certain nostalgia to this location, that is for sure. Recently, the building has undergone a paint job, and I must admit, I am not a fan. When I think of Dairy Queen, I think of red and white. The building is now "dreamcicle" colored. "Food": One of the reasons I come to Dairy Queen is because it is ice milk and not ice Cream. That is better for you, right? Well, probably not a lot better. Anyway, I will comment on my recent visit, and also add in my "usual" in this review. Blizzard with Heath and Snickers with hot fudge sauce: A buddy, who was with me at the time, suggested I get this combination. Apparently, she gets this at the DQ off Telegraph. Well, when we ordered or two medium Blizzards, the girl at the window had a confused look on her face. Well, after we got our order, the girl's confusion translated into the wrong order. We definitely had the Heath, but were waiting for the Snickers. Well, we drove off thinking we might eventually hit the Snickers. After we got home, and enjoyed the rest of our Blizzard, no Snickers was to be found. I will add that given the cost of these two Bilzzards ($10), I did not feel it was right to get the wrong thing. I called up and spoke to an adult lady mid-day. She was understanding, but also not exactly in my favor either. "Well, did you enjoy the dessert?" were one of her questions. That said, I am awaiting complementary coupons in the mail. I certainly hope they value up to $10. Buster Bar: Wow. If you plan on getting a bag of Buster Bars, you would do well to get them here. They are made on the premises. The ones I bought at the Bayless Avenue location are made at some factory. How can I tell? In the taste. They use a better fudge or whatever in between the layers of ice cream. And they always seem to be a fresh batch, whereas the ones I had purchased at the Bayless Avenue location seemed Summary: I really don't think you can go wrong here. I will say that the misstep I had last night certainly soured my evening, and given the response from the lady today (who I suspect is an owner), I am little less enthusiastic in my endorsement. That said, given the options in the South Saint Louis area, I think this might be one of the best.

For the first time in forever we got there during happy hour so what do we do? Save money? No, we order two appetizers instead of one! I always do build your own, you fill out the sheet from a pad on the table choosing your ingredients by category. I usually get the beef but last couple times I have ordered chicken but got similar toppings, Spinach, tomato, chipotle aioli, and fried jalapenos on toasted sourdough. Love it! For a small upcharge you can get a salad as a side, I like to do that because I can steal a few of the delicious fries from my companions. The salad is generous, spring mix, red onion, tomato, croutons. It comes with shaved parmesan, but I ask them to leave that off. The champagne vinaigrette is perfect. This is my favorite burger place, but I like that I can get a great chicken sandwich!

He said, "Yeah, they're good, but I'll tell you who has the best burger in St. Louis. No, the best burger in Missouri! Jovick Brothers! Sometimes I eat them three times a week!" In a town now inundated with great smash burgers, that was a bold claim, especially coming from a competitor, but having scarfed a double last week on their front patio, I'm inclined to put Jovick at the top of my list, too. It checks all the smash-boxes. Crispy edges. Great burger meat. Perfect texture. Not dense. Good fat - ideal amount of grease (if you don't like that word, don't come). I never believed in the smash burger fairy, but someone with supernatural culinary skill comes in the night to season that grill. And the balance of condiments is perfect. But enough of my yappin'. I tried the Pretty in Pink cocktail, which was well-balanced and enjoyable, though the pour felt a bit light for a martini. Normally one martini gives me a slight buzz, but that wasn't the case here. We started with the onion rings as an appetizer. The portion size was generous, and they were tasty overall, though they had a tangy seasoning dusted on top that seemed a little odd at first. Surprisingly, it still worked. I ordered the Good Burger, and it was honestly one of the most flavorful smash burgers I've ever had. I was genuinely impressed. I got the sauce on the side since it also came with the onion rings, and unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of it -- it was a bit runny and lacked flavor. My friend ordered the vegan burger and absolutely loved it. The inside of the restaurant was cute and had a great atmosphere, though there was an unusual smell indoors, so I was very thankful we were able to grab one of the outdoor tables. Outdoor seating is pretty limited, though, so keep that in mind if you prefer sitting outside.

The fire place was beautiful. We sampled the regular Poutine and the Shrimp Cocktail. Poutine was delicious and difficult to stop eating. The shrimp was good shrimp. Nothing overly special about the shrimp, but the cocktail sauce was delicious!!!! I highly recommend getting a Grey Goose dirty martini. I do not know who the bartender was but I should have asked. My husband enjoyed his Old Fashions and the house red wine was delicious. We topped our drinks off with an espresso martini. It was exactly how it sounds. Our daughter got a peach tea fizz or spritz something. She liked it. We ordered the sirloin Stroganoff, the cheese perogie, and the fish n' chips, because you can never have enough fries. We loved all three. Probably would not order the stroganoff again, nothing negative about theirs, we just prefer our own family's recipe. The Perogies were delicious. College kid said they were much better than those served at school. She much prefers the crispy top to a soggy one. The fish made us long for Lent. Light, fluffy, delicious. Wasn't a big fan of the coleslaw. Again, just personal preference of liking more mayo and zero celery seeds and I can only guess that is what those were. Our server was amazing, attentive, busy, and needlessly apologetic. We were happy to get in early on New Years. If we wanted to, we could have waited 20 mins for an inside seat, but we really enjoyed the heated patio. They also have an upstairs area but we did not venture up there this time.

Service: Unfortunately, the standout feature of my multiple visits has been consistently rude bartenders. It's not a one-off incident; it's every single time. Atmosphere: During the holiday season, the beautiful space felt barren with not a single Christmas decoration. It was a stark missed chance to create some warmth and cheer. I recently stopped by after an appointment in STL. It was right at lunch time and it was also, opening day for the Cardinals. So when I entered, the line to order was already long. I went with a Double and swapped out the American Cheese for Pepper Jack. For my side, I tried their Salt&Pepper Onion Rings. After ordering, I took my number stick and took a seat at the bar. Once seated, the bartender welcomed me and I ordered a draft beer. I barely had completed my Wordle and my burger basket was being slid in front of me. Before taking my first bite, I admired the crisp edges and actually ran my finger around them. My first bite was heaven. It proved to me that all a good smash burger needs is; ketchup, mustard, onion and pickles. The Onion Rings were made in house and the simple seasoning of Salt & Pepper made them a winner. While dining at the bar, I learned a new trick. If you're going to be sitting at the bar to enjoy your smash burger, you can order it from the bartender. She also didn't know how to make a drink, with that being the case why are you allowed to make any cocktails.
