It used to be the friendliest place and the owner was an older gentleman who always was super kind to teachers and students and donated to schools...anyway, I digress. Tonight the lobby was STILL closed so we decided to get in the drive thru line which was all the way on to 12 Mile. Dangerous, but we decided to wait the almost 20+ minutes!! We finally got to order and could barely hear the kid on the speaker. I said "I'd like two vanilla cones dipped in cherry and sprinkles" and he says "one cherry and one sprinkles?" I said "no, cherry AND sprinkles" he says we can't do that. I said "I've been ordering that since I was 7 and I'm almost 50!!" He responds, "ma'am, pick one!" (Excuse me?!?! After a long day and parent teacher conferences, I was not about to argue with a rude kid!) I asked him to give me a sec and we ordered two small blizzards instead. I had already waited way too long and didn't want my little one to be sad. I get to the window and no smiles like there usually are, everyone looked miserable. Never told me the total, just took my card, tipped the two blizzards upside down and handed them to me along with the card. Won't be going there again. The ice cream was too expensive to be treated that rudely. We'll drive to Ray's. Save your money AND time and do the same. read more

Doesn't participate in the heavily promoted free cone day on March 20 each year. Boo. They also raise their prices for 2025. Almost $10 for two small cones is insane. Trying to find ways to eat healthier DQ made it easy to get chopped from my list. Also two, you already have signs all over the side of your building and on the drive-through saying that you're not participating in the free cone thing. Leading off with that before you say welcome to DQ on the drive-through is just tacky at this point. It's shameful that you gain the benefit of the national promotion that drives folks here because my children saw it on social media and now we're held captive to buy overpriced ice cream or disappoint our kids. I really hate writing a bad review for locally owned businesses, but I was craving a hot fudge sundae on my way home this afternoon, so I stopped in at the Berkley location. I placed my order for a large sundae and I received a large plastic cup with vanilla ice cream and probably less than 3-4 tablespoons of hot fudge (probably 25% of what McDonalds uses on a sundae that is 50%+ larger). It's a simple recipe with ice cream & hot fudge and a total fail. Lot's of good local spots that are a much better options in the area. read more

Oh how I wish I would have taken a couple pictures to share with this review. This place is so dirty and lacks any kind of attention to the product they are giving you. We've been to this particular location a few times in the years it's been open and it just seems to get worse. On this last visit my wife got a Brownie and OREO Cupfection and it was ridiculous. First off when I pulled up to the pick up window and looked over, I was shocked at the mess. There was food and all kinds of toppings scattered all over the counters, the containers the wall, you name it , it was coated in fixings. When the young man that made the order handed it too me his hands and the cup were so dirty with ice cream and chocolate sauce that I almost didn't take it. Then there was the product itself. Look at the website and imagine that "treat", half full of runny ice cream and 2 chunks of brownie for $8. My wife doesn't complain so we just left but I can tell you , I would not ever give them any business. No one in the drive thru when we were there, maybe 2 customers inside and I would guess i saw 8 people working. Well working may be an overstatement because they were not taking the time to make an order properly and certainly not cleaning . Gross. If the owner happens to read this , or care at all , you need to do better and train up your staff. read more

One star because it is a DQ and that is the only reason. Their Chocolate ice cream never tastes chocolatey. It is sweet and cold but I never taste chocolate. I recently visited another DQ and their Chocolate ice cream was full of Chocolate flavor, So I know it is location error. Kathy Fears The 12 Mile Berkley store is a mess and so are the people who work there. The last three occasions I visited that store I left so very disappointed. On two of the three occasions I ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and was given a strawberry shake with extra whipped cream and was told that's the way it comes which I know isn't true. I know the difference between a strawberry banana smoothie and a strawberry shake. And I know how I had been getting it there. Smh! The third occasion was the worst of all. I ordered a turtle pecan cluster blizzard and God only knows what that was I was given. it was vanilla ice cream, little to no pecans and chocolate syrup drizzled on top. And it was horrible. When I tried to tell the young lady how I wanted it, she argued with me. This is the reason I do not like tipping anymore either. No customer service at all and they have the nerve to want $15.00 an hour. A lot of these lazy people don't deserve $2.00 an hour. I've been going to that Dairy Queen longer than she has been working there and I know how I have been getting it. A few days after that experience I visited the Dairy Queen on Nine Mile, in Ferndale. ordered my usual turtle pecan cluster blizzard. It was perfect. The Nine Mile store is my new best friend now. I don't understand why the owners of these establishments won't come every now and again to see how their business is being ran. The location is severely understaffed. The health department should see how dirty the different stations are. The product is great. The location is great. It does get busy and the business lot is very narrow, so be careful if using the drive thru. The young staff is always friendly and helpful. I have been patronizing this Dairy Queen for years, and never had a bad ice cream treat. Sounds exactly like the time to wander up to Dairy Queen and get a thick-as-tar small Blizzard stuffed with your daily calorie intake in the form of cookie chunks and fruit slices. Now DQs are something of an institution and this location thrives, despite active competition from local ice cream shops. Want proof? Try entering the building any time between 3 PM and 9 PM, June to September. Half the middle school population of Berkley, Southfield, and Royal Oak magically emerges like fireflies to bumble about, blocking eastbound traffic on 12 Mile. The DQ location serves up only the sweet treats; there's no brazier here to my everlasting sadness, because DQ onion rings are a thing of childhood magic. That being said, the small shop is spotlessly clean despite the crowds trudging in and out around dusk. Show up at 11PM? Shiny tiles and fresh neon. 12:30 PM? Those booths and counters are wiped down. I don't know whether this is a franchise directive or a habit of the employees, but I appreciate a tidy restaurant even when the line threads out the door. Seating here is limited despite the patio tables taking up every possible free inch. Large groups should anticipate dining elsewhere; do not try to pack the local soccer team in here. Having witnessed attempts to do so, the staff manages as best they can but no one can reach the front to order easily. Now, you're probably imagining the drive-thru is a superior strategy and it might be, were the footprint of DQ roughly the size of the Vatican or your average Somerset boutique. Maneuvering a mommy wagon around the tight horseshoe risks the paint job on the front quarter panel and bumper, as a rainbow of paint scratches on the white walls attest. Every so often you hear the awful 'screeeeeech' and know exactly what just happened. The drive-thru is short, too, and traffic frequently spills over into the street at prime time hours, so you may be better off parking on Royal and trotting inside for faster service. PRO TIP: Don't try to steer around the corner one-handed or faster than 2 mph unless you want a scraped up paint job! But really, you want to know about the sweet treats and I'm saving the best for last. Service may not be lickety split, but you will receive your banana split in fine order. The menu boards give a good idea of what they serve, though half the time the specialty toppings and options for blizzards are hidden in a secret code known only to sugar fanatics. You'll have to go inside for that. I prefer the chocolate dipped ice cream bars and swirl cones to other options, and these are about as generous and sweet as you might imagine. My beau gets small blizzards when we go, and those prices are creeping up as the ice cream melts down. And there's the problem: DQ's formula means their soft serve melts /very/ quickly. Even though we live a few blocks away, our cones shrink faster than a politician in a media scandal, and the blizzards become soupy quite quickly. As we rarely go to any other DQs, I'm not sure whether this location has issues or it's a typical DQ thing, but when I'm shelling out $5 for a small treat, I want it to last until I get home. They are rich, inordinately sweet at times, and delicious... when not melted. Verdict: 3.5 stars. Great staff, convenient location but limited seating, and really, really sweet products. read more

Not the greatest Dairy Queen that I've been to but also not the worst. I always get bummed out when the Dairy Queen I go to doesn't honor the "pass you the Blizzard upside down" rule. I didn't receive it this way here. Why? It wasn't solid enough to do so after I started eating it. My blizzard was about 20% melted already which was a bummer. I got the cotton candy Blizzard so most of the cotton candy pieces were already on the bottom of sinking to the bottom, which made for some rough last few bites of only ice cream soup and cotton candy pieces. Didn't even think about the fact that school kids are heading to this store but figured with a short line it would be ok. Looks like the management at DQ also also didn't take school into account for staffing. super fast, and friendly service here at DQ in berkley! we usually use the drive thru if the seating area is packed, and our wait is always less than 5 minutes. one time we came and there were about 4 cars ahead of us and the line still moved very quickly. i usually get the vanilla cone dipped in cherry, a delicious childhood favorite of mine. i also tried their new blizzards and those are okay, but i am not much of a blizzard/flurry type of person. if you're looking for quick ice cream after dinner (or before if that's your thing!) in the area, roll through the drive thru for a quick treat! read more

The drive thru line was around the building, literally couldn't drive thru. So we went inside, and once we got inside there was pandemonium behind the counter. The employees had no idea what was going on between the drive thru and the front, we weren't greeted or anything. It was staffed entirely by very young, rude girls. The cashier didn't know how to take a gift card and a credit card in the same order, one of our blizzards was made and nobody knew where it was supposed to go so it was put in a freezer by the drive thru register. Then our other blizzard and our shake became ready and we got everything but we certainly got attitude from the girls working there. Employees seemed a bit racist. My wife and I(a black couple) were locked out at 9:20pm after being told that doors close at 9:30pm. As i knock on the door, employees seemed to try their best to ignore me and my wife. Finally we made the decision to go through the drive thru. While waiting, i noticed a white couple was let in to order at 9:37pm. After receiving our blizzards, we notice that they weren't made correctly with the ingredients that we were upcharged for.
