I love their merchandise and got some great items as stocking stuffers and party favors for my friends. I even found a small squishmallow type stuffed animal that said on the tag it was a Siberian Husky. It was so cute and I think around $4. I could get lost in this store for hours. My only issue is not seeing prices on everything. It's hard to know how much things cost. It was easier when everything in the store was $1.50. read more

This is the best Daiso, with the largest selection. It is a fun place to find special little, inexpensive surprises/treats for little ones, home goods and Japanese treats. It is REALLY irritating that there are NO EXCHANGES/RETURNS, however. They are making $$$$ hand-over-fist and they won't let you exchange $1.50 sandals that didn't fit. I witnessed an employee snatch a cart basket from a child who walked outside to follow her mom who looked to step out real quick and the little girl apologized followed by crying. As a mother I teach my children not to snatch things from others but this employee seemed to never have got this lesson in life. Manager was contacted and no apologies were given to the distraught little girl. I will take my business to a different location were employees are better trained in the subject of humanity. Came here over the weekend because I had some time to kill. This Daiso is located in a very busy plaza - keep that in mind when you're trying to find parking. Most Daiso shops that I've been to have always had the same layout and same items sold. This one, however, looked substantially bigger and had a lot more selection of items. Ohh Daiso, how I love you so. Got WAY too excited when I saw the sign after leaving a very delicious brunch. This one is a good one - larger than the few I've been to. The store is clean and the staff was very friendly. Most things (unless marked) for $1.50 and let me tell you, I've never spent $50 at a "dollar" store before, but I very gladly did here. So many adorable things, and even more things you never knew you needed - and for the low. Even some delicious Japanese snacks and food. You can find so much at Daiso! Came here on a weekday looking for a pair of cheap sandals. I've been putting off buying a pair since sandals are one of those things where you need to have around the house but are not willing to pay the surcharge of purchasing them from Amazon or Ebay. The cheapest sandals I can find are at least a several dollars. Walking inside Daiso, I made a beeline to the back. There are rows and rows of stuff and am always impressed at what you can find here. Found rows of sandals hanging off a wall on the side of the store. Picked a pair of black ones in a shoe size of mine. No. At $1.50 a pair, had to pick 2 of them. Splurging like a king! Took the 2 pairs of sandals and headed to the cashier. Placed my sandals on the counter and at 3 dollars and change, they will still accept my credit card? The cashier answered yes. Went to this store to buy some notebooks and pens. The selection and price is always nice at Daiso. So 2+ Stars. -3 Stars for the customer service and the incompetent workers behind the register. Nobody seems to be happy about working here. Everyone is grumpy and not really interested in helping customers. People behind the register are incompetent. I had 20 notebooks. Instead of scanning each one, or counting each one. She just estimated 21 notebooks and tried to charge me more. I never realized how much I took this place for granted until I went to other Daiso locations. I'm mainly talking about the Santa Ana and Sawtelle locations. This place is way better than most other Daisos. LOCATION // This is in a HUGE plaza off of Culver and Walnut (near the 5 freeway) so it is always super busy around here. Parking can be a little bit of a nightmare because it is so crowded all the time. The store itself is pretty big! STOCK & ITEMS // I went this week and it was all stocked up. I know there have been complaints about bare shelves but I didn't experience it that week. Maybe it's different depending on the week. I, of course, went through each aisle to admire the amazing, affordable, and cute items. They have everything from storage items, dishware, kitchen tools, and stationary. The list is endless! SERVICE // Honestly, every time I have asked a staff member something, they have been helpful to me. I heart Daiso! It's a chain and I first saw them in the 626 area so was glad to find one here as well. Almost everything is $1.50 except for a few higher value items that are clearly marked, but all sales are final. They used to have a $10 credit card minimum but they recently changed it so feel free to charge away for even just one item. They have really cute little dishes and kitchenware, small toys that are great stocking stuffers, some pretty decent beauty finds (makeup sponges, eyelashes, etc), stuff for the car like air fresheners, seasonal items for holiday decorations like Christmas and Valentine's Day, and yummy Japanese snacks like Pocky Sticks and Hi-Chew...brings me back to my childhood! Great place to browse and shop in Irvine AND in the South Bay. I just wandered in the store aisle by aisle and everything was neat (definitely typical for a Japanese store). Found lots of cute trinkets and small items that I won't find anywhere else. Everything was so innovative that I wanted to buy everything g but fortunately I can control myself and only got what I came to get. Was able to find the exact soft, stuff toy my nieces love and appreciate. There were so many of them I had to dig thru the whole 3 boxes plus shelves to find the ones I need. Wanted to but then all. Also really appreciate the authentic Japanese snacks section... of course I left with a few good finds! Thank you Daiso Irvine location for me to waste my good hour of time, my gas, to drive back for this used item you guys sold it to me today. How freakin' wonderful. I was there for eating with mom in Irvine Mitsuwa, there was Daiso next to Mitsuwa, so I went there to buy some items needed for my car. Then, I found this lip products in Daiso and bought some of them today. First of all, I also bought two eye shadow crayons, cashier lady found out one of them was used and placed in the store, so she asked me to get new one and come back. I said, yes. So I came back, after got the same item but unused, came back home driving 40 minutes (road construction was going on when I was using local, since the time was just about to getting rush-hour traffic attack, not wise to get on the freeway). After I came back home, changed my clothes, was thinking of try the lip treatment I bought today. Then, this happened. USED product. Especially, it is cosmetic product. This just cracked me up as soon as I noticed about it was used and opened, even cashier, nor me haven't noticed it until I checked it at home. Wow. I called Irvine Daiso, this "Hiromi (or Hitomi)" lady answered the phone. She asked me if I would come back and get new one. I said, it will take me 38 minutes to go back to their store and another 38 minutes for me to get back home. She said, I have to come back with a receipt so they can figure out the solution (which I don't know what solution she was talking about). I went back, driving from Orange city to Irvine, took me 30 minutes. Simply, what this lady did was, she just handed me the new one and apologized. (seriously? Just that!?) Thus she did apology and gave me new item, I still feel very unpleasant that I had to waste my whole gas and an hour to get this little lip product replacement (prob worth of 4-5 dollars?) on the day it was over 100 degree. The time I got back to their store was around 3:30 pm, so when I got on the road to head back home, it reached 4 pm. Which, rush-hour-freakin-traffic I was stuck in. Took me extra 20 minutes, total of 45 minutes to get back home. This is such a bad experience of customer care service. The workers should have checked the conditions of what they are selling in the store, but they failed. I, the customer, had to sacrifice. Also to those careless and disgusting customers, DO NOT USE PRODUCTS THAT ARE FOR SELLING UNLESS IT IS FOR TESTING PRODUCTS PROVIDED FROM THE STORE. Overall, this location has a nice selection of items and it's a relatively spacious Daiso. Came here recently because the rubber heel on my boots was falling off (wardrobe malfunction...) and Daiso saved the day with their unbeatable combo of alcohol wipes and super glue. Also, I've been skeptical about purchasing Daiso product hair ties, but after purchasing, I was pleasantly surprised that the ones I bought are pretty durable (also, value pack of like 20 (!)) Unfortunately with ongoing COVID, you'd have to be pretty quick about grabbing the stuff you need and hurry to the checkout line to avoid being in the store for too long. My daughter and I love, love, LOVE wandering the aisles of this store, especially during the slower seasons. The aisles are packed with lots of Japanese goodies, and all for only a $1.50. Snacks, make-up, scarves, socks, plastic containers, kitchenware, toys, school supplies, bags, umbrellas, you name it. It may be a little overwhelming your first visit seeing the massive amounts of items neatly organized on their very pink walls and shelves in tight little rows, but eventually you figure out the layout of the store and will know where to head to on your next visit. Believe me, you'll be back. You may walk in thinking you are only looking for specific items, but I guarantee you that you'll be walking out with more than you had originally intended. Although you may think everything is only a $1.50, the prices add up pretty quickly and in no time you have things in your basket amounting well over $20.00 having no idea how you got there. This store is so much better than shopping at the .99 cent only stores as well as the .99 cent sections in the stores such as Marukai and Don Quijote offer in Hawaii. The items are of much better quality and are way cuter done up in happy, bright colors Japanese style! The reason I'm giving such a great store 4-stars instead of 5-stars is because of the service. The workers here aren't very personable or helpful, so don't come in here expecting any service with a smile. I'm not sure if it's because English seems to be everyone's second language here. Some massage tools look pretty interesting, some similar items I saw at Marukai are priced like $14 but they sell $1.5 at Daiso. Question is? how long will you keep using it??? do you really believe rolling that over the chin can get rid of double chin? I know some of my girlfriends and their moms love those cute dining stuff like small plates,dishes, tea cups...I guess I just prefer everything unified in same size and shape or just few different size would be enough. The calpico drink is 50 cents cheaper than the one I just bought a next door Mituswa market. Overall, the store is well organized and clean. Everything is $1.50 (a small number of things are slightly more or less and are marked as such)! Daiso has come to Irvine, located in a large strip mall with horrendous parking, just a couple doors down from Mitsuwa. If you are not familiar with Daiso it's sort of the Japanese version of a 99 cent store. Snacks, toiletries, pet stuff, containers, school supplies, clothing, dishes, gardening supplies....the list goes on and on. While I was here a long line formed for the cashiers. Suddenly there was an announcement over the loudspeaker system: "Customer Service, Please!" Immediately two women who were stocking items in the aisles literally dropped what they were doing and sprinted (not kidding - they RAN) to the front of the store to get behind registers and take care of customers. The Japanese understand customer service! Employees were very friendly and helpful in answering questions. I picked up a variety of things from some snacks to slippers and a wine stopper. A great place to browse for things you didn't know you needed. This is the 99 cent store of Japan but most things cost $1.75 to $6. I have gotten many dishes, bowls, sake cups and snacks. Want to know my guilty pleasure? No, it's not ice cream being fed from two lovely ladies but that might be a close second. I love to shop at these 99 cent stores. When Daiso announced they are going to open up one in Irvine, I was stoked! Heck yeah! Yes, I waited in line listening to the Taiko drums and waited with everyone and their mom's here. Oh, BTW, what is it with older ladies and their perfume and invading your space while waiting in line? So I actually live close to to a Marukai 98 cent store, but sadly they closed down. With the valuation of the Yen to the dollar, it is really difficult to keep up with the times. I seriously hope this place will be open for awhile. It is in the Heritage Plaza, lots of foot traffic! I doubt that they will not have enough shoppers. For a first day opening, I was seriously surprised how organized everything was. There was line control. There wasn't people pepper spraying me over goods. Some items were were interesting , most were made in China. Some bargains I didn't buy were synthetic wallets and belts for $1.50. Also I bought a badminton set with the rackets and shuttlecock for $1.50. Bought some clear small plastic bags, 40 of them to a pack, good for giveaways. I further opted for the okashi cuz I love Japanese candy. I bought some ginger candy and the bag of Kankitsu 3. She was kept going back and forward to the end of the cash registration area to talk to her fellow coworker while trying to help me purchase some products. When I asked for paper wrapping for a bowl I bought, she said "it's only one. I think it's okay." I am not going to stand there on the line explaining what I have in my bag or my trunk what can potentially break the bowl I just bought. A Japanese type 99 cent store. Except it's $1.50 and has more randoms that can be cute, interesting, cool or something that can collect dust. You litterally will want to go aisle by aisle. I find that there seems to be something that catches my eyes. Whether it's something I may actually want or something to just amuse me at that moment. There's animal heads for oven mitts, an eye crease strip that I think is intended to make women's eyes bigger (craycray), a variety of flavored Pocky sticks, chopsticks and other Japanese dish ware, cleaning supplies, stationary items, toys, chair socks (yes, look at my pics), waving Asian cat, stuff, more cats, stuff, pandas and more stuff. One gripe that I have is that there's a few things that are just worth paying only a buck and there's things that will cost you more than $1.50. But they're smart. They know you're there already, in the moment, and next thing you know it's in your cart. Sneaky. This store, for the most part is kept clean, pretty organized and stocked. There's employees you'll always see running around and working hard. It's in a plaza surrounded by Mitsuwa, boba/sweet shops, and plenty of Japanese eateries, shops and businesses. So it can get crowded and lines can get long. Yet, again, staff is doing a pretty good job. Man, I love Daiso. So much. So much that I sometimes hate it. It's very tempting and easy to go crazy as drop ton of money in this place. It's overloaded with cute, oddly useful things that you never knew you needed until you see it on their shelves. Anyway, the Irvine location is decent but not as varied as the Monterey Park or Torrance locations. The line is a bit of a mess with the credit/cash split which invariably has a few lost souls getting in the wrong side of the split which causes further delays. Daiso is a serious life-saver! Until filming became a part my job, I had not been aware of the random things that can ruin a take. A pesky fly (later joined by a gnat) that won't stop buzzing around the speaker's face (true story). A nearby toddler who has run out of videos to watch (another true story). Or a more common one - an oily face that is made even more reflective by the lights. Luckily, the last one is easily fixed, provided that there is a Daiso nearby. I made a quick stop today and found a whole rack of facial oil blotting papers! All are made with traditional Japanese mino-washi paper and can be used before or after makeup. They came in different varieties - such as ones for your desktop (that dispense like Kleenex) and in different sizes. A pack of 100 for $1.50? Total score! Hope into line and grab a box of Tom Yum flavored Pretz by the register and I'm on my merry way for another great and productive day of filming! Since I am obsessed with the 99 cent store chain and read such great reviews on Daiso, it was bookmarked for my next trip to the OC. The area is great, tons of good food around :) Parking was easy and it was a bit full but spread out well. The shop is a lot bigger than I thought and the selection is CRAZY! Had I not had man and son in tow, I could have easily stayed an hour just to take it all in (figure out what the stuff is...) Everything is so clean and colorful, most items are $1.50, a steal for the cool kitchen and decor items they have. Very fun to walk through, I'll come back for sure and really take my time, there is no way to get out of there without buying something! I haven't written a bad review in quite a while but when people are rude is when I feel like I should share in hopes that no one else will go through a similar unpleasant experience. My elderly mom purchased a small item and paid for it in dimes because it was a little over a dollar. The cashier, who said her name was "Michelle" very rudely told her that they have an in-store policy in which they don't accept so many coins, which is fine, but the way she said it was extremely rude. She told her, "the next time you want to use coins in the store, make sure that you separate them by quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies BEFORE getting to the cashier because they're not going to sit there counting coins." What??Ok, so first of all, she was only using dimes AND she counted them out for her, but whether Michelle was having a bad day or something, she spoke to my mom like she was deaf or a child. Very condescending. We asked for the manager but he went home for the day. So we called today and discovered that they in fact do have a limit on coins policy but it's not written anywhere... so I guess you have to wait till you get a cashier like Michelle to hear a rude earful to discover their strange policy. Anyway, Michelle's whole attitude was SO very unpleasant and unprofessional; it's fine to have a store policy but there is always a nicer way to let people know what that policy is instead of condescendingly insulting a paying customer.
