I came here with a recommendation from a mechanic friend for the first time and I never looked back. I have been coming here for any issue I have with my car since the , even if I must call them to describe the issue they will make sure to discuss over the phone before I come in. While my car is at the shop they call once the service is complete and make sure to explain what has been done or call insurance to get permission to do any services that have not been discussed prior, that is a detail that I really apreciate. Whatever issue I have even if they cannot service it here they will make sure to recommend me to another trust worthy mechanic who as soon as you say that DAKAR sent them, they will make sure to exceed your ecpectations. Horrible place, Took my car to get the transmission check out. i took my own part that had to get replaced and the worker supposedly changed the part. The same day i tried taking it back to the shop and they told me to go back the next day. I called every day trying to go early, trying to get the problem fixed but it was always an excuse. Eventually i took it to a different mechanic and they told me that the part i "got replaced" was never replaced and showed me it was the old burnt out part. (it was a sensor, pressure switch B). I have a 2007 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V 2.5 liter MT. I live in NJ and my father told me about this place when my clutch blew. (Learn to drive stick on this car). This was 2 years ago and my clutch is still in great condition. I've been taking my car here since then and every time there's a problem with the car they fix it in a timely matter and always charge fairly. Before making the trip out I always check nearby mechanics in New Jersey and I'm never satisfied or they are never able to fix the problem as quickly and as efficiently as the Dakar Transmission does. Mechanics by me have even diagnose the problem incorrectly. That is when I raise an eyebrow and I will go to ** and get a second opinion. I have been here a total of five times with multiple problems each time and I have always left happy. In the business description they say they can do more than just transmission repair and in fact "any other repair", and a few recent reviews say that they do offer other services other than just transmission repair. And so we called about a repair needed to our car that was not transmission related. We were yelled at by whoever picked up about how they do not in fact do other repairs. horrible mechanics they don't know how to do engine jobs. they damaged my car in the shop not 1x but 2x. they had the car for over a month and didn't complete any work on it. in the end they try to stain you for any dollar charging me for a " diagnostic " when THEY DIDNT EVEN KNOW OR FIX THE PROBLEM. you've gotta be sick in the head to bring your car here maybe if you've got a hoopty you can get away with it but don't bring any nice car here. i beg you they will destroy it and then charge you for it. waste time waste money read more

Great place awesome mechanics and the customer service is excellent. About a year ago I brought my 2005 Ford Crown Victoria to them. Turns out my transmission was going. Right away I got a quote and they told me they work can't be started right away. I took a chance only because I've never had to replace my transmission. Well needless to say the work was on point. This review is mainly based on customer service. So my pregnant wife was stranded in the middle of the road in Astoria in her Fiat which decided it no longer wanted to shift into gear. Shortly after I received a call from my understandably upset wife asking if I could do something to help, reminding me she was pregnant and not able to think straight. I hung up with her and quickly searched for a nearby garage that had the best reviews in both technical ability and being decent and friendly individuals. These guys came up but under a now extinct company name, Posada Brothers (I'm assuming it was a recent acquisition of their number and clientele). They couldn't have been more accommodating. They brought the car in put it on the lift for inspection, brought my wife into their office, and helped her order food from a nearby restaurant in an attempt to quell her severe nausea. They brought her waters and helped carry her stuff out of the car. Overall just extremely helpful. After identifying the problem Steven, (he was the one my wife spoke with mostly), told her what the issue was and assumed that the Fiat dealership would claim, even if the surrounding parts are covered under warranty, the main part would be considered natural wear and tear and wouldn't be covered and the dealership would probably charge double what he would charge. But if she wanted to see if Fiat would cover the entire thing that he understood completely. So we opted to try our luck with the dealership hoping all would be covered. So guess what? Fiat claimed that it was wear and tear (which is bullshit by the way because it was clearly a cause and effect situation) and they ended up charging us double. Lesson here, Steven was great, these guys are great. They are knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. And most importantly they weren't pushy or intimidating in any way. And I thank them for being so wonderful to my wife. read more

Sorry, I hate to give a bad review but I have to be honest. I decided to go to this shop because of the good reviews, however the reviews are misleading. I took my 2009 Toyota camry because the check engine light came on. After dropping off the vehicle, the owner call me within a few hours to let me know they will be checking the vehicle. Two days later, I get a call that there computer couldn't pick up the problem with my vehicle and that he believes it's either my sensors are not working properly or my speedometer is not working. He told me that there's nothing wrong with the vehicle and that I could come and pick up the vehicle. After two days, my transmission started to kick and I decided to take it to the Toyota Dealership to find out that my tranny was leaking oil and that it has been badly damaged. I was like WTF how come these guys couldn't come up with the analysis it appeared to me they didn't bother to check because if the Toyota mechanics found oil leaking all over, they should have discover the leaking oil I have to say the owner is nice but cant say for everyone else at the shop however I was disappointed that they didn't do a thorough job with my car read more

Dakar knows his stuff! I had a great experience there! After being sent by a mechanic re: my Ford transmission problem, Dakar addressed me right away & took the time to run a test on my transmission. When it passed the test, he said it was a price-y computer problem. He could've left me w/this bad news & a big repair bill but he was honest & KNOWLEDGEABLE & told me he'd seen this before w/other same make/year cars & I should call Ford. This wasn't a known recall by Ford but I was able to get them to do the repair at $0 cost to me under some unknown extended customer satisfaction warranty had no knowledge about! Dakar Transmissions was GREAT Service!! These guys were able to take care of my truck that I brought in. I had known what I wanted to be done and of course they let me know of the risks of what I wanted not totally fixing the issue but I let them know I wanted to proceed and they did not give a hard time about it like other shops did. They worked well with me and did not overcharge me as well. The car is running great and I would definitely go back there if any other issues occur. I was referred to Dakar to check the transmission on a 2003 Mercedes E500. I was told by another mechanic that I needed a new transmission and they were prepared to order it, that's when I decided to try Dakar to get a second opinion. So glad I did!! Dakar checked my transmission, called me at work to let me know nothing more was needed but the proper oil and level. The previous mechanic did a poor job changing the transmission oil. Dakar saved me over a thousand dollars! It's running like a top They are honest, prompt and friendly. Fair pricing. Manager went out of his way to keep me updated. I came here for a second opinion because I didn't trust the last mechanic I took my car to. I explained the problem and the last place had disconnected the battery and erased any diagnostic codes the car had so they had to drive the car around and go by what I was saying. They had my car for a few days, the communication wasn't fantastic which is why I took off a star (I just had to call them daily to get updates but they were forthcoming with all the information. They never made it seem as though they were trying to lead me a certain way). In the end I don't think they figured out what the issue was. They replaced the part that the other transmission shop was going to replace with a used but working part (the other place had quoted me $600 with the caveat that this replacement MAY fix the problem, but it MAY NOT) and told me to pick up the car. I asked them if it fixed the problem, and he said "come pick the car up, drive it, and see." - again this is where a little bit better communication would have helped. HOWEVER, they DID NOT CHARGE ME, which I was so grateful for. That really showed me that Alvaro is an honest man- he had originally told me he would not charge me for diagnosing the problem- and seeing as they had it a few days and were running multiple tests on it I appreciate not charging me. But I also think they didn't charge me because they knew the replacement part wouldn't fix the problem. In the end, the problem was not fixed, which is another reason I took off a star; but at least I didn't pay anything here whereas at the other transmission shop I would have paid $600 for a new replacement part in my car that didn't fix anything. So yes, I would recommend this place even if my car became a lost cause. Also, Steven even gave me a ride to the train station when I dropped off the car which I thought was nice. The other transmission shop just left me high and dry and were not nice about much. read more

Amazing shop, I found it on yelp and the customer service was spot on like the reviews claimed. I was on my way to work and my car was giving me a hard time to go into gear and I had to give it a lot gas. I limped it over to the shop, dropped it off and left for work. Around midday I get a call from Steven that my clutch was worn out. He gave me a few estimates and finished the work same day. I went to their other location but the owner and manager switch back and forth between locations. They charged me 400 for a solenoid pack when another shop was charging me 1800 for the whole transmission. Honest shop and not intimidating like most mechanic shops. I came to Dakar convinced that I needed a new transmission. Steve took the car out for a spin with me and carefully evaluated its condition. He said that it sounded like it only needed transmission fluid so he put it up on the lift right away and I was on my way in less than 45 minutes. He was extremely knowledgeable and polite. I have a 99.5 Volkswagen Jetta (MKIV) and I had taken it to a Volkswagen Dealership to get my oil changed (only cause they had a special going on). I also was curious to know how much they would charge to do a diagnostic and they quoted me close to 200 dollars for them to plug in a computer to get a code back. I do own a Vag-Com cable so I had checked the code myself so I knew I had a transmission issue. I looked on yelped for a transmission shop in desperation that wouldn't rip me off because other shops (not dealerships) quoted me 150 dollars an hour to just diagnose the car because it was foreign. I understand Volkswagen is a German car but anyone who knows the car can tell you the MK4 Jetta is a pretty straightforward car to work on, even I do a lot of my own work. I had found Dakar, gave them a call and he told me to bring it in the next morning. One of the pros as well was they are open early in the morning, so I was able to drop it off before I had to get to work. The shop is relatively close to the train and they even offered to give me a ride but as it was a beautiful summer morning I decided to walk. I got a call around 2 in the afternoon and was told that my car was fixed and I was expecting that it was just a wiring issue as it was done so quickly, but they replaced the solenoid valve and filled up my transmission fluid, and it only came out to around 250! This job would have easily cost way more anywhere else. I was so pleased with the service and I was told they have another location in queens along Northern Blvd. When I came to the shop I had a chat with the owners son who is very knowledgeable and had no problem explaining to me what they had done as I was curious. It's a family business and they have just gained a new loyal customer. Thank you Dakar for making what is normally a painful process into a easy one. read more
