My transmission went on my car a few years ago. Ok they fixed it. A year later a gasket was loose and I was having problems with the transmission again. They fixed it took over a week to fix. Ok I guess no charge. Again my transmission is having problems. I took it to another mechanic. Another 1100 Bucks. Don't go to these guys. They don't know what they are doing. read more

I wish I could give Phil, Carl, and the rest of the Gibraltar Transmission team 10 stars, but 5 will have to do. I went to Gibraltar Transmissions to get a second opinion after not feeling confident elsewhere. Phil was patient, kind, and respectful in our dealings. He explained everything that needed to be done to my car (a rebuild of the entire transmission), the reasons why, and even took me around the workshop to show me examples of the different parts he was discussing. We discussed a price range and estimated date of completion. Not only did he charge me the LOWEST PRICE in that range, but MY CAR WAS READY 3 DAYS EARLY!! He also has an agreement with the Enterprise car rental down the block and was able to secure me a ridiculous deal on a rental. I had tons of luggage and boxes in my car, and his team helped me transfer everything over to my rental before I left. Everyone there was friendly and went above and beyond. I could not be happier with the service they provided and the way I was treated. I've already recommended Gibraltar Transmissions to several of my co-workers, and despite the fact that I don't live on Staten Island, I will be returning to Phil and his team at Gibraltar Transmissions in the future, whenever need their services again. read more

We have been stuck and he has sent ppl to us in a heartbeat. My husband is in a wheelchair and his lift would not work today. Tony kindly sent over someone and they fixed it up for my husband. In rebuttal to you sending us to the ford dealership for a recalled part...The car repair they ended up doing at the ford dealership had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL AND NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PARTS YOU HAVE EVER SAID. Please stop yourself now. You're making yourself look shadier than this already is. You knew you couldn't fix the car, knew you didn't understand the parts and still took our money for "repairs" that never actually fixed the root problem. You sending us the ford was the equivalent of calling your parents when you messed up. After reading another review here I have to also claim we have been scammed. You did a complete transmission rebuild for no reason on the car and the transmission had nothing to do with the repair ford made. This place is ran by a bunch of crooks.. DO NOT!! I repeat!! DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANYTHING AUTOMOTIVE RELATED!! Dropped my car off on 8/8/2017 at 8a due to a transmission issue.. was told they would diagnosis my vehicle and contact me before days end to let me know the status.. Didn't receive a call by the end of the day so I went there to see what the status of with my vehicle.. 5:30p.. Soon as I arrive, the "warranty" guy comes out and tells me my transmission is bad.. I asked him specifically what was wrong but he wouldn't give me an answer except for telling me the price to rebuild is $3700.. Told him I'll take the car to get another estimate but he tells me I can't drive the car off the lot because he has to call the "warranty" company to find out how much they would cover.. he then proceeds to tell me he has to dissemble the tranny and that someone has to cover the costs.. All I wanted was a diagnoses.. I literally had to argue with these cars to take my car off the lift.. One of their stooges "Chris" takes my car down but wouldn't even look at me in the process which spelt danger.. I get in my car and what do you know? The car is barely drivable.. The PRNDS lights were illuminated, a burnt smell was coming from the engine bay, and the car seems as if all the tranny fluid was drained but never replaced... I dropped my car off drivable but got it back in limp mode.. a 2 minute drive home took 30 min.. I had to go to Cali for a few days afterwards so the car never moved when I parked it in front of my building.. I come back Friday morning 8/11 and the car wouldn't even start.. Coincidence?? Not at all!! I went back to the shop to report the problem and they quickly denied any wrongdoings.. I told them my car was driveable when I first bought it but now it won't even start.. The "warranty" guy tells me the tranny was bad and these things happen.. I asked him about the car not starting and he tells me I have to get it towed to his shop at my expense.. After going back and forth with these guys for 20 min I realized that nothing was going to get accomplished so I left.. Basically.. Gibraltar Transmissions on Hylan Blvd is horrible and not reliable.. Once your in their shop.. they'll try to put you at their mercy by making you feel as if there's no other options.. I called a few other transmission shop and i received quotes ranging from $1200- $1700 for a full rebuild and installation of my tranny.. half of what Gibraltar quoted.. THIS PLACE IS THE WORST!!! read more

Big mistake! $2300+ to install a rebuilt transmission in a car I barely drive, cause I wasn't willing to take a chance on a junk yard transmission. 21k miles later, and it's slipping out of gear when I stop, and slamming back in when I go. It's been over 3 yrs so it's out of warranty. I would have gotten more out of a used transmission, for a third of the price. I can't help but wonder if that's not exactly what I got. Do yourself a favor and find a place that stands by their work. 3yr/36,000, is certainly not a reasonable amount of time to begin with, but to not ever make 30K miles??? read more
