Why is there no Dal Moro's in the US?! This is seriously the best place to stop for a quick, delicious, and cheap lunch. After wandering around for a few hours, we were starving and ended up here. Lucky for us, there was no line, so we walked right in, selected our pasta & sauce, and were chowing down within a few minutes. We did the amatriciana and the nero di seppia (squid ink). I stumbled upon Dal Moro's while doing foodie research, and you may accidentally stumble upon this place too if you're wandering the alleys of Venice because it wasn't easy to find even with Google Maps. I wish I could give helpful tips on how to get here, but I really couldn't tell you other than you'll know if you're going down a nondescript alley and you start seeing people with to-go cartons sitting on the steps. Dal Moro's offers 8 different sauces, 2 pasta options (spaghetti or fusilli), and 8 toppings for an additional .50-1 euro per topping. The most expensive sauce is only 7 euro, so you can understand why this place is so popular. Food (3 stars): -Calamari cuttlefish ink fusilli (5 euro): I love squid ink pasta, so this is a steal for 5 euro! The sauce is a serious black, but don't be turned off by the color because the taste is actually pretty tame. It's not fishy, but the squid ink imparts a nice umami saltiness to the sauce. They also give you a lot of sauce; in fact, some people might find it to be too much sauce. Some bread would be nice to go with the extra sauce. I wish you could get some real calamari to add to the pasta instead of just having pasta in sauce. I wouldn't say it's the best squid ink pasta I've had (just 3 stars for food), but it is a great deal if you're in Venice and want a quick, cheap bite. Dal Moro's was the first place that we ate at in Venice, and was a good, cheap way to start our adventure. It is a little hard to find in the narrow streets of Venice, but when we arrived in late afternoon, there was no wait. I used to love this place and made it a top priority to return. But boy, was I disappointed this time around. The Bolognese sauce, although I expected cheap meat for 6 euro for a pint of pasta, was grainy and the tomato was indiscernible. I mean, I know Venice and northern Italy isn't where you go for red sauce, but a bit of salt and acid wouldn't have killed them. The cheese add-on is still generous, but the garlic now isn't. Rotating sauces mean a few were added while others are taken off the menu, so if your heart is set on a flavor you see online, don't be married to it. My husband and I stopped by this shop to pick up lunch during our stay in Venice. There was a line when we arrived, but luckily we didn't have to wait too long. Even though it's a small shop, the staff takes and prepares the orders very quickly. The staff was very friendly too. We ordered the Frutti di Mare, Alfredo with prosciutto, and Cacio e Pepe with prosciutto. It was definitely too much food for the two of us, but we couldn't resist trying out the different pasta flavors. All three sauces were tasty, but our favorite was definitely the Frutti di Mare. I ordered their famous carbonara and the flavor of the sauce was just not pleasing at all. The pasta was over cooked and the meat was basically just Canadian bacon. A must visit for every tourist coming to Venizia. I have never imagined a fast food Italian restaurant. The owner was very friendly and even gave us a sample to make it easy for us to order.
