Over 35 years ago Dale's serviced a sports car I owned. The service was always excellent. The next vehicle I bought was one they did not service. And the next one, I opted for the dealership maintenance for 19 years because of a business relationship. Why did I end up back at Dale's? Squirrels chewed up wiring and everything else they could gnaw on. 3 separate trips to the dealership mechanics and thousands of dollars spent, I still had the problems with no explanation of what was causing them or how they could be repaired. Adding to my frustration is the fact I know little to nothing about what happens between a vehicle's front and back bumpers. So, I was left to trust the dealer's service advisors and mechanics. They were well aware I planned to keep this vehicle for as many years as possible. They assured me they were keeping it in tip top shape. The 3rd time wasn't the charm with the dealership, I answered their survey with "I'll be looking for a new mechanic." The first place I thought of was Dale's. Back to Dale's... Dale patiently listened and took notes on all my concerns. (A very long list.) After the mechanic's exam, he called with the good, bad, and ugly news. He was searching for parts because of my vehicle's age. Everything was repaired that could be. Somethings he advised against due to the expense but assured me they would not effect the vehicle's performance. I told Dale to go over my truck as if it were his own. He found some issues I had no idea about (because I doubt the dealer mechanics even looked for them) and repaired those. The a/c had been cool for a few years, but now it gets so cold, I could possibly operate a frozen food delivery service! If you need a nice waiting room with a big screen TV, vending machines, fancy coffee creations, free bananas, and kid's playroom then Dale's is not your place. However, if you need expertise, mechanics with decades of knowledge, dependable and reliable service, reasonable pricing, and someone you can trust then Dale's is your place. These are not guys with new toolboxes and rusty wrenches. They are trusted professionals. Took my car there for the first time today. Each person I spoke with was friendly, helpful, and informative about my car. I was quoted a price over the phone and there were no surprises when I returned to pay (I needed an alignment) and I didn't feel like I was being pressured to do anything my car didn't need or like they were looking to find things that were wrong, which is often how I feel when I take my car to the mechanic. My a/c was not blowing correctly. Setting was set to highest speed and no air would come out. Dale told me I needed a new compressor. I ended up paying over $1600 for it to be that my compressor wasn't even the part that needed to be replaced. Dale's team simply did not want to spend the time it took to find what the actual problem was. My dad ended up spending 2 and a half hours looking my car over and researching issues with what it could be. He ended up finding out it was the blower motor resistor, a $140 part from the Honda company. It took my dad 10 minutes to replace this part and only cost him $140 whereas Dale charged me for a $1600 part and labor that probably didn't need to be replaced in the first place. Take the time to find what the actual problem is instead of guessing simply because you don't want to look or do the research. read more

This was my first time going to Dale's and I will probably never go to another mechanic again. When I called to get a quote, Dale was very thorough in asking me about the work I needed done. He does only quality work and at a very fair price. Compared to other places I'd called, he was either right around the price range or lower. Dale called me when he found some items that could need additional work. He never pressured me to get anything done and was always only concerned about the car's safety. When my car was ready, Dale called to let me know and apologized that he wouldn't be there when I picked it up because he wanted to meet me in person. He thanked me for giving his small shop the opportunity to work on my vehicle. That is a lost art these days - saying thanks. Dale's went above and beyond in excellent service. I've owned my share of unreliable automobiles - both American- and foreign-made. So I know that a good, trustworthy mechanic is worth his or her weight in gold. I took my car to a garage in Westport for awhile, but when I moved even further west it didn't make sense to take my car to someone that far away. A few years ago my daughter introduced me to Dale of Dale's Automotive, and he's been my mechanic since. Dale keeps my daughter's mid-90s Mercury running, which makes him a miracle worker in my eyes. I've been perfectly happy with the routine maintenance he's done on my new Nissan too. When I recommended him to a friend who had a weird problem with her Mustang, Dale couldn't find anything critical wrong, but he also didn't charge her for work she didn't need. I've never waited an inordinate amount of time to get my car into Dale or to get it back from him. And while I don't usually understand his recap of the work he did, I know he does, and that's what matters. The next time your car is out of commission, go see Dale. The brakes on my wife's car were starting to shake the car really badly when stopping. I called Dale based on reading other reviews. He was very courteous on the phone and worked with me to setup an appointment as quickly as possible to get the car fixed. The customer service has been great, repairs are made in a timely manner at competitive pricing, and I personally love that Dale himself regularly answers the phone. Dale has made special arrangements so I can pick my car up later than close and no staff has ever tried to sell me more that what I needed. After a few visits, I wholly trust Dale's experience and expertise. Let me take a minute to mention the recepits. The receipts provide detailed information about what was done to the vehicle. In my case (my poor car needed A LOT of work), the info detailed 16 different electronic codes that were tripped during diagnostic testing, what repairs were made the first visit, and what repairs would be made on the follow up visit. Dale even took the time to tell me about each code and pointed only a few potential problems. The shop may not be the prettiest, but it's definitely the best around. I'll be going again soon for a routine oil change and nothing else really, bc my car is back to being in good shape. read more

Tucked away in a strip mall, this place isn't the easiest to find, but Dale made sure to let me know exactly where to go when I scheduled my appointment. When I asked if I could get in and out for an oil change over my lunch break, he let me know what food eateries were nearby! Stay clear of these people. Took my 98 Corvette in on Thursday AM for A/C service, got call today it was finally done. After I paid $400, I went to get my car and the windshield had several cracks. Looks like someone shut the hood with a tool left on the cowl. When I went back in to tell him I had a problem, Dale came out to the car and basically said, too bad, we take no responsibility! They left my car outside from Thursday until Tuesday, but I am pretty certain the damage occurred when they worked on the A/C. Fortunately I have zero deductible on my comprehensive coverage but I can't believe they took no responsibility for the damage. To add insult to injury my service engine light was now on! I would warn everyone to steer clear of these people. They will never get my family's business again and I'll warn everyone I know to not take anything to them! Dale's Automotive in Lenexa does quality work but you will pay a lot more for the repairs than other shops that also do quality work. And they do the work without telling you how much it costs until after its done so you get stuck with an exorbitant bill and there is nothing that you can do about it. My brother took a 14 year old car there just to see if they could get a window to close. It works fine now but he's out $700 to fix a power window on his old beater, which is a lot more than other places charge and a whole lot more than he was willing to pay to fix it. If you are considering taking your vehicle to Dale's Automotive, then I would recommend calling around for estimates at other shops in the area instead of using Dale's Automotive. Was roadtripping up to Denver, Co from Louisville, Ky. when I noticed a constant scraping sound when I was sitting in traffic in Boonville, MO. I pulled over at a rest stop where someone who was handy used a piece of hose to identify where the sound was coming from - my AC compressor or something around there was having a bad day. I got on yelp and tried to find a local mechanic, but everyone nearby was closed. When I called Dale's they were closed, but he answered the phone anyway and gave me some advice. Great service, he walked me through what the problem was, explained my options and worked on other things while i thought things over. When I decided to leave the car with him (based off of accurate and glowing reviews on here) and get a rental, he offered to get me dropped off at a car rental service so I could continue pushing on to Denver. He completed the work while I was in Colorado, for less than was quoted and his technician ferried me back to pick up my car after I dropped off the rental. Thankful for a helpful auto repair shop when I was in a bind in an unfamiliar area. It is a small shop, but thankful for the work that they did. Stop here, you won't regret it. read more

DO NOT BRING CAR HERE! We brought our vehicle in because it was making a light ticking noise on passenger side while driving down the road (never made noise while pressing brakes) after Dale "inspected" it he called and said our brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. So we had him replace them...with a $700 price tag...2 days later the noise is back! So we call him and he says we need to replace the calipers, this is something they should have been able to figure out while replacing brakes and rotors and our vehicle only has 70K miles...a little early to replace calipers. So we had a feeling like we were being screwed over and asked if we could come get the rotors to have someone else take a look at them. Four different mechanics looked at them and checked them while a micrometer...all 4 mechanics said the rotors did NOT need to be replaced!! Bad news is they beat them off with a hammer so we couldn't have them switch them out! So we're out over $700 and vehicle still makes the noise. We also talked to the mechanic that worked on the vehicle and he said that he was just told to replace brakes and rotors and that he was never even asked to figure out what the noise was! He screwed us...please don't let him do the same to you! read more
