Dalian's Café makes the most out of their small space in Downtown LA. The place is super cute. It is remiscent of a café is one of the great European cities. There is nice seating inside and out. The almond croissant was quite good. The coffee though made me wonder why I've spent my whole career drinking the office coffee. Coffee was great but when I simply asked if they had vanilla syrup, a barista decided it was his opportunity to be a condescending douche and tell me "well yeah just about every coffee shop is gonna have that" and proceed to list all the syrups they had in a monotonous tone ending with something along the lines of: if you think of a syrup we probably have it. They didn't have vanilla written on the menu so I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask just in case. It was my first time going here and this guy decided to be the typical coffee redditor snob trying to make me seem stupid. We saw this cute little cafe as we were walking back to our hotel and decided to stop in. The workers were so nice and explained all the different pastries to use and recommend drinks that we might like. My favorite pastry I tried was the monkey bread is was sweet and buttery with out being overwhelmingly so. The iced chai was also very good, nicely spiced and just sweet enough. Went there this morning (happy they're open on Sundays) and writing this before I forget. Good oat milk cappuccino and vegan muffin. Always appreciate a vegan option for baked goods. Really nice people working there and great service. Lots of nice little touches, like clear mugs to see the layers of the coffee and foam, chocolate-covered almond on my drink's saucer, and fresh orchids on the tables. Amazing café! We had an espresso, a cappuccino, and a couple of delicious pastries from the bakery. Everything was incredible. The cappuccino and espresso were honestly some of the best we've ever had. The guy who helped us gave excellent service -- very friendly and professional. The atmosphere is great too. I'm not usually a huge coffee fan and I drink it for the energy as opposed to the taste. However this is some of the tastiest coffee I've ever had! And the staff were so friendly. It's a very beautiful shop as well. Parking isn't great as it in DTLA but if you can find a convenient way to get there I'd recommend! read more

This European inspired cafe is in the heart of DTLA. The views of the city are great and it goes perfect their elegant decor. I sat outside to enjoy my matcha and really enjoyed my visit. I had their matcha latte and loved it. It was served on a beautiful mug and dish which added to the experience. I felt so fancy sipping on my matcha people watching outside on their pretty patio. I loved the heart design and the size of the matcha latte was also good. The owner was there and you can tell how much he cares and wants to make sure visitors have a good experience. I came by today with a friend since we were in the area and decided to give it a try. We sat outside while we enjoyed our order and while everything food and wise was fine, there was a very public altercation with the staff. I don't know if it was a supervisor or an owner or whatever, but he started arguing with one of the baristas about some sort of recent incident. He began yelling at her and accused her of being a liar and hiding stuff and was placing blame on her. The barista kept trying to defend herself and try to explain her side, but he kept cutting her off and yelling, making her yell back. They ended up continuing to yell at each other and he continued to not really listen to what she was saying. The conversation ended up stopping abruptly and they both went back inside. The man's attitude and hostility was honestly, shocking to say the least. My friend and I ended up feeling bad for the barista and just appalled with the man's behavior. This conversation should have not happened out in public with a bunch of customers present and being able to clearly hear them. Regardless of whether or not the barista is at fault or not, that is not a way a person in charge should act with their staff, especially in public. He escalated their conversation rather than try and diffuse the situation like a good manager or owner or whatever should and made it a hostile environment. Any good experience was honestly shattered after that and made me want to actually sit and write this review. Whoever that man was, he should definitely think twice about how he treats his staff and should honestly, probably not even be in that position. read more
