Visited this location over the weekend and was pleasantly impressed. Space is rather large with lots of indoor seating, staff was friendly and down to earth and I absolutely love this coffee shop. I tried a summer series lemonade in the peach flavor and was blown away, perfect balance of sweet and sour. I normally visit the Inglewood location but I'm so happy there's one when in DTLA. Definitely a must try!

Walked into this establishment on a Thursday afternoon around 1pm. The vibe was quiet and calm , you can tell a lot of people were there working . I ordered a vanilla iced latte and a breakfast burrito. My order came to about 33$ which seems high but I did get turkey sausage added to my burrito which was an additional charge and oat milk added to my coffee which was 1$ up charge. Def pricey but the coffee was great they don't overdue it with the ice (Starbucks) and the burrito was pretty good plus with the green sauce . I split it with someone and was still full . We enjoyed it, I would def come back . 4 stars because there was no greeting when I walked in and I initially wasn't sure on where to even order my food. The customer service was ok, could have been friendlier .

The reviews for this place are awesome so I decided to stop by for something small. I purchased a vanilla latte and açaí bowl. Disappointed with the vanilla latte. Although it looked promising, the coffee itself was watered down with very minimal coffee flavor. The açaí bowl was perfectly smooth, rich, and refreshing. The granola and shaved coconut added the perfect texture. The place is small, but very peaceful and aesthetically pleasing. Staff are friendly and get through the orders faily quickly. I'll stop by another time to try out their brunch!

I would always like their seasonal drinks lol staff is always friendly here but I always feel the front of house is always short staffed. I think if they had 2-3 people working the front it would help with lines and alleviate stress for the baristas. Got the brekkie sandwhich today too it was okay I def would try a bowl next time.

Had the pleasure of dining at Hilltop Coffee after hearing great reviews and I was not disappointed. Myself and my friends came here on a weekday during morning business hours and had no issue finding a table to be sat at. When you first come into the restaurant, you immediately see the beautiful decor. It has a very zen vibe and I loved how there were numerous people there working while enjoying their meal and beverages. You have to order at the counter and receive a number for your order. The number is placed on your table where servers bring your meal to the table. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with the taters tots with an orange juice. The while I've had different tater tots in my life, these were by far the best I've ever had. They were well seasoned and heated to perfection. The mayo sauce they put on the side was delicious as well. I will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Food - I had a coffee it was OK. It was an Americano. They were out of drip coffee. Chicken and waffles were OK. The chicken had a funny Twinkie taste. The waffle was really good. The beignets dough had a sour taste. We returned it and ordered another waffle w/ crispy bacon. Service - excellent customer service. Ambience- Loved the vibes, decor, light music. Love love love the artwork!! Parking was expensive since we paid $15 we took advantage of the beautiful day and trekked through DTLA & shopped. Enjoy!

Of course, I had to visit Hilltop Coffee while in downtown Los Angeles--because as its founder and owner said best, I'm rooting for everybody Black. Naturally, I had to see what Mrs. Issa Rae had going on with her coffee shops, and this particular location, Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen, did not disappoint in terms of atmosphere. The space was calming, beautifully designed, and thoughtfully decorated. I loved the artwork, the mix of seating options, and the overall modern aesthetic that made it a great place to relax or get some work done. The menu was more extensive than I expected, offering not just coffee and pastries but also a full breakfast lineup with sandwiches and even a weekend brunch. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon and an order of tater tots, along with the seasonal sweet potato latte. The sandwich was good--pretty standard but satisfying. The tater tots were fine, though not particularly memorable, but they came with a tasty dipping sauce that reminded me of a spicy mayo. The sweet potato latte, however, was a bit of a miss for me. The coffee tasted slightly scorched or burnt, and I didn't get much of the sweet potato flavor until I reached the bottom of the cup. I know that can happen with flavored drinks, but overall, the coffee itself lacked balance. I probably should have gone with a different option. Even so, I'll continue to support Hilltop Coffee because I love what Issa Rae is building. The space, service, and mission are all worth rooting for, and while this visit had a few misses for me personally, I'd definitely give them another try at this or another location.

If you're in the area this is a must! Love the vibes inside and wish I had enough time to sit and enjoy. Stopped in for a quick midday pick me up... in all its simplicity the iced vanilla latte was perfection. With half the sweetener it was the perfect balance of flavors. The staff was friendly and kind and I truly can't wait to come by to try other menu items.

Where do I begin?! To know me is to know I love trying new local coffee shops, especially when on vacation. More specifically, black-owned coffee shops. Justin was my barista and not only was he so nice, he remembered my name when I came back the second day. Yes, it was that good! lol I had the Strawberries n' Cream and the Bangin Breakfast Sandwich. I don't love super sweet coffee so Justin made it less sweet for me & honestly, it was perfect. The sandwich was bomb! The spicy aioli was so freakin good, sheesh. They had R&B playing softly, it's vibrant yet earthy. If I wasn't visiting LA for vacation, I can imagine me going all of the time to work.

    STRAWBERRIES N' CREAM STRAWBERRY MATCHA
    Josh H.

I ordered a strawberry and cream coffee, strawberry matcha, blueberry muffin, breakfast burrito, and avocado toast. The Strawberry and Cream coffee was really really sweet and has a syrup taste to it, it's okay. The drink could be really good if they held back a few pumps of sweetener. The Strawberry matcha was really good, the matcha is not a grassy taste and the strawberry cream was delicious. I would definitely recommend this drink. The Breakfast burrito was really good, great flavor and the verde sauce was super flavorful and definitely complemented the burrito. I would recommend to order this. The Avocado toast was okay, wasn't a fan of the honey and the HUGE parsley pieces, it overtook the flavor of everything else. Also a really average piece of bread; however, the egg was cooked to perfection. I personally wouldn't get this again, but if a sweet flavored avocado toast sounds up your alley, you may enjoy more than I did. Overall I would recommend this place, the ambiance is casual, kinda like a hotel lobby vibe. Just expect to pay LA prices. I am also not a fan over being charge an extra $3 for dining in and eating. If you take it to go you do not get the charge, I understand we are using the napkins and other stuff, but that's the cost of running a business. Our cost for the menu items should already cover this.

Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen in DTLA has that perfect mix of good vibes, community energy, and seriously delicious food. I stopped in for a late brunch and was blown away by how fresh, flavorful, and thoughtful everything tasted. The Slauson Drip - Bold, smooth, and exactly what you want in a house coffee. It's the kind of cup that wakes you up without being overly bitter. Tater Tots - Golden, crispy, and addicting. Simple, but perfectly executed. Great as a side or just something to snack on while chatting. CLT Sandwich - A clever twist on a classic. The flavors balanced so well, with the freshness of the greens cutting through the richness. Definitely something I'd order again. Superfood Salad - This one was the star of the show. A nourishing mix of arugula, hearty farro and quinoa, roasted golden beets, puffed wild rice, avocado, fresh blueberries, and sweet strawberries, all tossed in a zesty red wine-oregano vinaigrette. Every bite had texture and balance--earthy, crunchy, tart, and sweet. It felt like the kind of dish you eat and walk away genuinely energized. The space itself is modern but warm, with a neighborhood feel that makes you want to linger. Service was friendly and unhurried, which added to the whole experience. Hilltop isn't just a coffee shop--it's a spot that feels rooted in culture and community. Can't wait to come back and work my way through more of the menu.

The food was delicious. Ordered the breakfast burrito! Food was made fast as well as the drinks. Customer service was okay. The inside is so pretty. Would recommend checking it out for a little coffee date.

Had plans with my bf in LA so like always to start off our day finding a place for coffee and breakfast. It just so happened to be Dine LA week so Hilltop had a special going on. The cafe is located along Hill St, and there really isn't any parking other than street parking if you're lucky. We parked in a garage using a parking app to have a secure place to park so it was about a 15 minute walk which we didn't mind. There are a couple of tables outside in the front, but I wouldn't eat outside only because at the time I went there was this swarm of flies/gnats right in front of the door that persisted when we left. The shop looks small from the outside, but inside is very spacious and much larger than expected. It felt like walking into an modern art museum, bright, paintings on the wall, plenty of seating inside as well. This extends pretty far back to where the kitchen is (sign for employees only to prevent people from walking any further). There is also a nice gender neutral restroom, with the sink area in the front and fully enclosed toilets (wall to ceiling). You order at the counter, next to what looks like bar seating. I give full props to the barista that took our order. She was alone and cleared the long line of customers by herself. I did take a little at first but nothing we didn't mind waiting for. As mentioned before we ordered the Dine LA special which was a breakfast sandwich with tater tots, hazelnut latte, and a brown sugar latte. The sandwich was good, eggs are cooked overhard, but were not rubbery. Bacon was crispy and nice amount of cheddar cheese. My favorite part was the soft brioche bun, with a slight chew. I kind of wish I asked for light or no spicy mayo on my sandwich (personal preference) but it didn't ruin it by any means. The tots were all nice and crispy, none soggy, and came with a side of spicy mayo. The lattes were good, nothing spectacular, but not bad at all. I had a nice hazelnut flavor for my latte, and my bf's brown sugar latte had a nice flavor which seemed lighter than mine. They also have self serve cups of water near the counter where you order. Something to be aware of when ordering, is that there is a 5% service charge added automatically to your order and a sign provided letting customers know that it is added but can be removed at their request. It was a nice taste of what the coffee shop had to offer and would try again if I we were ever in the area again.

It had the perfect amount of sweetness, the perfect creaminess, and the matcha wasn't bitter at all. My sister got the MANGO MATCHA DUO with oat milk and absolutely loved it. My sister's coworker tried the SPARKLING YUZU MATCHA and said it was delicious! She loved that the yuzu flavor wasn't overpowering and said the matcha tasted very high quality. We also got the STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE MATCHA DUO because it was recommended as one of their top picks. We gave it to another one of her coworkers, and she finished it so quick! She said it tasted like a dessert and raved about how delicious and amazing it was! So we decided to come here for coffee or tea and ended up having a really nice time. I used to come here quite often about four years ago. Back then, I really liked their Einspänner and ordered it several times. But the last time I came, I thought it was way too sweet, so I hadn't been back since. It had actually been a REALLY long time since I last visited. And when I used to come here four years ago, I always came in the morning or around lunchtime. Last night was my first time ever coming here at night. My friend told us that they are open until midnight, so that's why we decided to come here after dinner. I had heard that parking here can be a nightmare because there aren't enough parking spaces and people have a hard time finding a spot. But once again, my parking luck was AMAZING! A car pulled out right in front of me just as I arrived, so I was able to park very easily. Another friend arrived later than I did, and she said she couldn't find a parking spot at all. She drove around for quite a while looking for one before finally finding street parking. Last night, we also had some tiramisu, and since I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine, I decided to have a caffeine-free ade instead of coffee or tea. It was a little sweet for my taste, but it was ok. We sat outside on the outdoor patio and talked and talked and talked. We had such a fun time together! However, it was actually pretty cold outside last night. I remember thinking that it felt surprisingly chilly. But what was even crazier was how FREEZING cold it was inside the café! They had the air conditioning turned up so high that both my friends and I felt like we were going to freeze to death. The restroom is inside, and I also went inside to get some water, so I mentioned to one of the male employees that it was freezing inside. He told me that they didn't feel cold at all because they were working, and that THEY were actually feeling really hot. I went back to our table and told my friends what he had said, and they were like, "WHAT?! We're freezing to death over here!" The parking lot here is actually pretty large, so I was wondering why it was so difficult to find a parking spot. Apparently, at night, the left side is the café, while on the right side there is a bar where people can drink and also play games. There was a huge line of people waiting outside the bar last night, so I'm guessing that's probably why the parking lot gets so crowded and it's hard to find a spot. It was also pretty chilly outside last night because of the low temperature, so one thing I wished they had on the outdoor patio was heaters. That would have made sitting outside much more comfortable on a cold night.

I stumbled across their Yelp page when I was visiting from out of town and checked the Instagram for their hours on a Saturday afternoon and was happy to see they were open! I am a sucker for pop-up coffee shop/cart concepts so I had to check it out. The pop-up is easy to find, it's outside facing into the parking lot, and they had a cute A-frame sign out by the street side. There was no line, and I ordered and sat down at one of the tables out front. The service was so warm, and I believe the shop is owned and operated by one man on his own! He was an absolute delight to meet, and he brought my matcha latte to me at the table when it was prepared. He suggested I get the cream top on it, and boy was that the perfect recommendation. I would say I'm a little bit of a matcha fiend... I think I got a matcha latte at 3 different places this day... and this one far surpassed the others. I think it was one of the best matcha lattes I have ever drank to-date. It was perfectly green, the matcha quality was phenomenal, both taste and look-wise. The texture was just right, perfectly creamy with barely any grittiness. The cream top only added to the drink, and didn't take away from the matcha flavor at all, which I feel like has happened at other places for me. I'm dreaming of this matcha latte days later, and need to go back to Kokoro No Coffee as soon as I am in town again. This was a spectacular find, and I hope this spot gets all the love it deserves! There is truly nothing like a great business ran by a great person and you can tell there's so much intention put into this concept. Highly, highly recommend and I could not sing praises more!

It was pretty busy for late afternoon but I took it as a good sign. My sister has been a bunch of times before and really wanted me to try their cream top but I don't drink coffee and they apparently stopped allowing modifications to their drinks so you can no longer add the cream top to the matcha latte. She got the cream top coffee and I got the matcha latte so I could sip the top of hers and drink mine and it was honestly so so good. I have no idea how they make their cream top but it's unlike any other I've tried. The matcha itself was also very smooth and great quality. Both drinks came out to just $13.50 total, which is amazing. Would come again!

I get the Japandi minimalist design aesthetic but a lot of people would love to just sit down and drink their spendy beverage and there's just not enough seats for all the customers. I would suggest adding more benches along the North wall which is an entirely usable space as well as adding another counter along the window with barstools. For this, I have to give the ambiance 2 stars. I'd still come back for the exceptional matcha latte though!

It's a very cute and cozy coffee shop and there was no line when we arrived. The menu had a huge selection of different coffee and tea drinks and also a seasonal menu. The staff were very kind and patient and swiftly prepared the Vienna Latte and Hojicha Latte we ordered. The Vienna Latte is so visually stunning, the layers of white milk, brown espresso, thick white cream, brown cocoa powder and Biscoff layered on top of each other against the dark green logo was so aesthetic. Having a sip before mixing the Vienna latter was incredible, the sweet cream followed with the nutty strong espresso flavour then getting a refreshing splash of milk made a great combo with the Biscoff. I actually liked the drink less after its all mixed because it was too creamy for my taste. (I normally like my coffee black) My hojicha latte was great, but it was also too milky for me. So I went up and asked if it would taste good dirty, with an espresso shot in it, and the barista said yes. I ordered an espresso shot and instead of charging me full price, they only charged me the add on espresso shot for the drink! ($1.50 instead of $4) It was very kind of them since it was absolutely my mistake for not ordering the right drink in the first place. The shot added much depth and flavour to the hojicha latte I was craving. Thanks for the wonderful service. I'm definitely coming back to try their other specialty drinks.

I ordered the Orange Mint Latte, Matcha Sparkling Lemonade, Einspanner White, Hibiscus Mint Sparkling Lemonade, and of course, a cortado. I also tried their Wagyu Sliders. Every drink was fantastic. What I really enjoyed was how different each one was from the next. It didn't feel like I was ordering variations of the same drink -- each had its own flavor profile, presentation, and unique touch. The Orange Mint Latte was especially interesting, and both sparkling lemonades were refreshing and completely different from what I would normally order. The Einspanner White was another standout. Overall, it was a really fun variety to try at once. The cortado was also very good. It had a nice flavor, smooth texture, and was easy to drink. Their approach is a little different from a traditional cortado presentation because the espresso and milk are fully integrated together rather than finished with latte art. I actually appreciate that style when it's executed well because the focus is more on getting the espresso and milk completely incorporated into one cohesive drink. The presentation across the entire order was also really well done. You can tell there's thought behind how everything is served and put together, which adds to the overall experience. The Wagyu Sliders were great as well. I think the food side of Archives of Us deserves more attention because they have some genuinely good food options to go along with the drinks rather than the food feeling like an afterthought. The space itself is beautifully designed with plenty of seating inside as well as an outdoor seating area. I love the overall atmosphere and aesthetic -- there are certain details about the design, presentation, and experience that remind me of coffee shops I've visited in Japan. The staff made the experience even better. Everyone was extremely friendly, kind, and welcoming. Overall, Archives of Us has a lot going for it. A beautiful space, great service, thoughtful presentation, a strong variety of drinks, solid coffee, and food worth trying as well. It's especially nice to find a coffee shop where I actually want to explore the menu beyond my usual cortado. Definitely the type of place I could see myself coming back to once a week.

They do not serve cold brew but the Einspanner Black does the charm for me. Their matcha is also good as it is not too sweet nor too bitter. The fan favorite is the Wagyu slider. I personally like the egg salad one more since I am not a meat on meat person but the bacon wagyu slider is better. I would say this place is the better version of Community Goods and does not have as long of a wait. Note - kitchen food is not served until 9:30AM so if you're an early riser or trying to get in and out, you will be out of luck. Parking - the main parking Is the underground structure which could be found on North Broadway. Parking can be quite pricey if you're there longer than an hour.
