Buckle up boys it's story time. I arrived at the restaurant with gf skeptical since the building looks like it's used as a front for money laundering. We walk in and are greeted by a nice lady who takes us to be seated. She got pretty lost on the way to the table but that's fine we got the scenic route. We make it to the table which is a window seat and outside there's a bus. This is fantastic, I love busses. The waiter quickly took our order which gave me plenty of time to look around before our food arrived. I said to myself I bet it cost a fortune to make this place look unfinished. That's a quote from Family Guy. I love anything that makes me quote Family Guy. Points for that. Our food arrived after a reasonable amount of time and I ordered the barbecue beef ribs, which came out stacked, steaming, and with enough barbecue sauce to grease my whole body. My lactose intolerant girlfriend got the mac & cheese, which made her shat chaff out of ass that night. everyone in the restaurant was also "Texas size" which was great for my body dysmorphia. Did I have to ask for water glasses? Yes. Did we find hair in the majority of our dishes? Yes. Was I bothered? Not at all. if all you're looking for is a place to satisfy your barbecue cravings without spending $80 on a single plate of food, This is your spot. Will I most likely have violent diarrhea tonight? I ordered the salmon and shrimp, and it was full of flavor--definitely a highlight of the meal. The drinks were very well refrigerated and the servers made sure the cups were always full. There was barbecue sauce and ketchup. The seats were mostly comfortable. The lighting was alright. This was such a horrible dinning experience. Went here after work with my coworkers and I wish we didn't. Our waiter kept leaving the table. He was inattentive to the point he mixed up our orders - brought the wrong food and had to be switched out. He argued back and it was so unprofessional. Our food took way too long to go come out. Dallas BBQ has been decent on the New York scene, but the City has moved onto better barbecue in all the boroughs. There was a time when Dallas offered a great experience that could not really be topped in the City. My recent experience tells me it has been left in the past. When you come here, manage your expectations. Nothing here seems overpriced, in fact it's all quite reasonable. However, Dallas is a place that makes their money on volume and the house was packed on this recent Saturday night. Everybody was in there. Service suffered, but not leading with glasses of water was a clear omission. Not returning often enough to check on our table of three was not excusable. I ordered the steak and ribs combo at a reasonable twenty three or twenty four bucks. The fries and ribs were better than the steak. The steak, served over pita bread, was very thin and was more tough than it needed to be. The ribs and fries were both good, but not excellent. It was three or four bones nowhere near a half rack. Do they take the rack and cut it length wise in half to say they met the minimum number of bones? For twenty four bucks, manage your expectations. I had a beer in a goblet. I don't remember the lager, but it was good as an accompaniment to the meal. Thanks for all the years of Dallas keeping NYC in barbecue, but the City has great barbecue spots in all the boroughs now where you'll pay for the quality, flavor and experience. Johnson's BBQ in the Bronx offers takeout rib platters for the same money that'll have you eating superb takeout for two days at home. This place is in a great location. We went in for lunch. We were seated immediately and attended by our server just as quickly. There's tvs playing old throwbacks and it has a dinner style layout. The menu has a lot going on. It was my first time eating at Dallas BBQ so I went for something simple, fish tacos, it stated it's new on the menu. We also ordered the boneless sticky wings and lemonades. The lemonades tasted like water. I took one bite of the fish tacos already knew it wasn't going to sit well with me. The sticky boneless wings on the other hand were pretty good. I'm sure the drinks are great and if I were drinking I wouldn't mind the food being mediocre and unseasoned. I just want to say this place has gone down hill. I came here for lunch with my mom and aunt for the first time in years. It felt nostalgic going back. The place I once thought was awesome was pretty gross on the inside. I asked for a table for three while my mom and aunt parked and we couldn't be seated until they walked in. Might I add, there were over 20 open tables? Distasteful. The honey basted chicken is a classic and fantastic. The cornbread is always good too. Our service was fine but I was getting some serious chilis/applebees vibes here. I did get the early bird special so my meal was $9.99. I also got a side of their Mac and cheese. It was good but nothing to write home about. The cheese was comparable to velveeta ? At the end they gave us what looked like cake pops. I did try one but got some serious red40 vibes. I sometimes stop in at the Dallas BBQ in Chelsea because it's almost a given that I'll have a delicious and filling meal. This time was no exception. On this occasion I ordered honey dipped chicken over cheddar-scallion waffles. I've got to say that it was so good. I was blown away because I just didn't expect it to be that good. Very tasty, with a tad of sweetness to the waffles, and the chicken was quite crispy underneath a nice honey based sauce. I was impressed, and I'll probably get this next time. Highly recommended! My companion ordered a half rack of ribs, coleslaw, and cornbread. The ribs had a nice smoky flavor to it, and it's also recommended. Overall it was a great dinner at a reasonable price. The tip was automatically added, which is not my preference, but our server was very nice and personable. I'm sure that I'll keep stopping in occasionally as I've always had great dishes here. The first time I came I ordered the Hennessy Wings and the Sticky Wings. I was in love with the Sticky Wings. Personally, the Sticky Wings are better. They also know for there signature drinks. This time I ordered the Hennessy Colada. Believe me when I tell you, you will not be disappointed with the size and price of the drink. There are many Dallas BBQ's in New York and sometimes depending on which one you go to they can be a hit or miss. Consistency is the key but they really hit the mark when I visited. My mother and I went to BBQ on W. 23rd St. and 8th Avenue July 19, 2025 around 3:10 PM. We had a bad experience. We ordered the 2 early bird specials that consisted of rotisserie chicken and you could have a choice of a baked potato, rice or french fries. My mother also ordered the vegetable tempura as an appetizer. First of all, they never gave us any water and the vegetable tempura never came. Next thing we knew our entree arrived. The food was lousy; it was horrible. We couldn't enjoy it. The taste was horrible and my rice was awful. Chicken was half done. The butter was frozen for the cornbread and the cornbread was not even hot or warm for the frozen butter. We asked for the waiter to come over because we were displeased with the food. We also asked the waiter about the tempura. The waiter was not even aware that we did not get the tempura. We also told him that we were not enjoying the food. This is when the waiter got an attitude and he said "well let me get the manager." My mother also asked about the water, the fact that we do not get any and the waiter said "well you said you wanted to wait for your drinks, but those were drinks not water! They are supposed to automatically give you water at the table. The restaurants that I frequent automatically bring your water. The manager comes over. His name is Mujeeb. We start telling him about the food and my mother mentioned they never bought water over to us and he starts going into this thing about when Bloomberg was the mayor... (by the way Mayor Bloomberg was the mayor in New York from 2002 to 2013 it's now 2025 ...hello!!) That was over 10 years ago we don't need to hear about that and that has absolutely nothing to do with us not getting water. My mother asked the manager for the vegetable tempura, "Can we get the tempura ...well guess what the manager says "we're not gonna like the tempura." He caught an attitude because now he just doesn't want to serve us. Then he said "well I'm not making you pay for the food" but we wasn't there trying to get a free meal. How dare he insult us like that! ....and we were still trying to spend money in the place by asking for the vegetable tempura. Now he comes out and says we are not gonna like the vegetable tempura so at this point, I told my mother let's just go because they don't appreciate us being there so we don't have to stay there and take their crap. If you don't like the food speak up because you don't have to patronize that place and be subjected to food that does not taste good and the fact do not care about their customers. Not once did the manager offer an apology for any of their shortcomings. We are not going back but if you happen to go there and you don't like the food, you should definitely speak up because the place is gone down over the years. It is not good and they are serving subpar food to people who are just sitting there and eating it and taking it without saying anything to the manager but the audacity of this MANAGER is the problem and for him to say that we're not gonna like the vegetable tempura. "You may not like it's no need for me giving you more food." But we have the right to tell a restaurant if we do not like the food if it's not good, and again we were going to pay for the vegetable tempura so we requested it. Also just to let you know we did not eat most of the food. A lot of the food was left on our plates, including most of the chicken, the cornbread, the rice. We only ate a little bit of that stuff. That's how we know it wasn't good. For him to assume that we would not like the vegetable tempura is very unprofessional. It's also tacky and it meant he did not want to serve us. His whole demeanor wasn't good; the way he treated us as customers. He never apologized for the bad food, for the fact we never got water. He never apologized for the tempura not coming out. Upon walking in we could smell the barbecue and it was decorated nicely for the holiday. The staff that greeted us and served us were very friendly and attentive. We used to eat out here a lot as there was one in our neighborhood, however haven't been here in a while, it will need to put it back in our list of good food to eat more often. We started with the 1/2 order of the vegetable tempura which was delicious. It consisted of several crispy fired vegetables that were piping hot and cooked to perfection. The ribs, friend shrimp and baked potato were served hot with great flavor and good barbecue sauce. The corn bread was hot and delicious! I would only recommend an additional hot sauce that could be added to food other than Franks, but other than that this place was 5 stars for sure. We will definitely be back for some good barbecue. Considering the cost and not having plenty of restaurants nearby here, I love this place. Dallas BBQ is not fine dining but it does the job if you're looking to fill your belly with guilty pleasure. We came here on a Friday night and the only down side is that all party must arrived in order to be seated, so if you have that one late friend, make sure he/she knows it. Once seated, our waitress came by shortly and asked us if we wanted any drinks. She was very nice and friendly and I like that. I ended up ordering their honey blasted quarter chicken with fresh cut fries and corn bread and it was delicious. It was the perfect portion and price, considering I paid less then $20 which included tip and tax. Space wise, they do not pack their restaurant where it feels mad crowded. Instead it was spacious and I like that the C/E train was right outside their doorstep too. With all this said, if I needed to be nearby this neighborhood and have to find a place to eat, I wouldn't mind going back. I feel like I have a love hate relationship with Dallas BBQ. I feel like most people have a love hate relationship with them. However, my significant other's Mom loves the Dallas BBQ. I think maybe ten plus years ago I had one of their fun drinks and gnawed on someone's jack daniels wing from their order and thought the wing tasted pretty decent. First off, the service here sucks. You may be waiting for a table if you come after 5pm for close to 20-30 minutes. Once you get seated, order everything you think you may need and want for the next hour because you may never see someone ever again. I went with a Texas sized strawberry margarita without the shots. It surprisingly still had a pretty good kick to it. For my meal I got the roasted bbq chicken sandwich that comes with fries and coleslaw and honestly for like ten bucks is probably one of the better deals on the menu. The chicken was actually moist and juicy and tasted like real roasted meat and not like a crap chicken breast they slapped on with sauce. I also tried the fried chicken wings without sauce, a piece of tempura vegetable, and a rib and those were alright. The bottom line I think with Dallas bbq is that you're not coming for the food. The shrimp was very fishy, and not very flavorful. The ribs were not bad, but a little on the dry side. The chicken was drowned in BBQ sauce. The corn we ordered had a huge black spot right in the middle and a lot of missing kernels. I asked for a new one and they gave me one that was not much better. It looked like someone had already taken a bite of my corn. We also ordered some Hennessy wings. This was the real star of the dinner. The wings were HUGE and pretty tasty. Since my college days, when you wanted massive amounts of food on a single plate, Dallas BBQ is your place. The original one on 8th St in the Village is gone, but they have expanded around Manhattan and into the Bronx, Queens & Brooklyn. This one in Chelsea has been our backup, since my first job down on 23rd St and made a great place to grab a bite before or after a movie. You can order one of their huge drinks and be happy all night. I really miss the gigantic Onion Loaf. It's like the dinosaur ancestor of the Blooming Onion. We usually have to have 5-6 guys before we order that. You will wonder what species of bird the Sticky Wings come from because they are MaSSIvE! They are almost the size of turkey wings and dwarf anything you'll get at KFC. They are fried up and coated in sticky sweet sauce and you can order them 5 or 10 to a plate. I stripped them down to the bone including that weird piece at the end. Around the table we got the Classic Combo of Baby Back Ribs, Fried Shrimp & 1/4 BBQ Chicken, Beef Ribs and my Seafood Combo of Fried Cod Fillet, Fried Shrimp and Crab Cakes. At first I thought the fried balls were hush puppies, but they turned out to be fried doughy crab cakes balls with pieces of crab in them. Kinda interesting. This is a hard one for me to write as BBQs has been a staple in NYC for years. I've eaten at this restaurant for years and the majority of the times I've eaten here it's been at this location so to say I'm extremely disappointed is an understatement. A friend and I decided to come here for dinner. We noticed that they are now offering guacamole as an appetizer. They have the regular size and the Texas size. We ordered the Texas size portion. First, they claim the Guac is fresh and made to order. That's not true. The guac did not taste fresh at all. But the kicker is the fact that they don't fill the cup up with guac. They fill the cup with 2/3 of lettuce first then add the guac to the cup. So you think you're getting a Texas sized cup of guac when you're getting mostly shredded lettuce. I could not believe my eyes. We waiter for our waiter to approach the table. We explained to him the situation. His reaction was as if this has happened before. He tells us that he's going to "speak to his manager" to see what is going on with the lettuce. He returns about 15 minutes later with a larger plate of chips and a much smaller bowl of guac. No apologies or explanation at all. I have to say, BBQs is a part of the experience of living and visiting New York City. But this was a slap in the face to the community that has supported this establishment for decades. Some may think that it's only guacamole but, it's about the dishonesty.
