I politely ask the young lady behind the counter i have an question before i placed my order she looked at me and rolled her eyes when another employee saw the interaction and ran over nice and polite and asked me how can he help me. I explained my question and he right away gave me a solution! I'm not sure if the young lady had a language barrier where she did understand what I was asking. 2- When I got home. I was ready to dip into that Cole slaw but upon opening the container the Cole slaw appeared to be spoil and slimy. I thought maybe it's just me so I tasted it and yes it was spoil indeed. read more

3.5 rounded up I recently stopped by Pollo Campero and overall had a good experience. This location is on the smaller side, but they do have seating available. It also looked like there might be an upstairs area, though I'm not totally sure. There was a bit of a wait when I went to pick up my order, and the staff looked a little understaffed. That said, the guy helping customers was pleasant and doing his best to keep things moving. When I finally got my order it was hot and packaged with care, which I definitely appreciate. This was actually my second time having Pollo Campero, but my first time at this particular location. It's been sometime since I've last been to Pollo Campero. I'd say about 2 years ago and shortly before I began making Restaurant reviews a hobby which means I very rarely go to the same spot twice unless it's left a big impression on me. With that said Pollo Campero has always been one of my favorite chicken spots, tied up there with Jollibee so I took the opportunity to swing by location in Herald Square, Manhattan. Inside the place was clean, spacious and surprisingly uncrowded considering I was in the city on a Friday. Service was decent, no complaints, as I've stated in another review earlier this week, I don't expect fast food service to be stellar or elite, it just has to not be terrible so I'd give PC here a solid A. After my order was taken and I was waiting for my order I just took in the atmosphere of the place and once again, it's a very maintained location and there are plenty of Pollo Campero spots within Manhattan so I wouldn't see overcrowding as a problem. I got my usual, 3 piece (1 grilled, 2 fried pieces) along with rice, a dinner roll and Horchata as my drink and I missed the taste of the chicken as it reminded me why Pollo Campero destroys the overrated but more well known chicken joints like KFC and Popeyes which have absolutely hit rock bottom in quality whether it comes to service or food. I might break my routine and review a few more spots even though I'm trying to focus more on more smaller, indie run restaurants but I can't be too far from Pollo Campero for too long, it's so good and it won't wreck my wallet either. I gotta give props to Pollo Campero. Inflation has ruined fast food spots for me and many of the bigger ones have fallen victim. PC for what it's worth, has stayed within it's lane of pricing. I came to this location because of its proximity to the train station. Plus I'd never visited it. It's a smaller space with some seating on the main floor, but it seems to have more seating upstairs. The staff was very friendly and service was prompt, but receiving your food is a different story. After waiting a little over 15 minutes, it was still room temperature. This was disappointing. My chicken itself looked a little battered, no pun intended, lol. The sides looked okay, but did not taste as such (discovered this after I had gotten home). The sticky, oversauced coleslaw was a mix of too sweet and vinegar, I tossed it away after two bites. Pollo Campero - 6th Ave, New York Stopped by Pollo Campero on 6th Ave and was pleasantly surprised! They offer lots of food for a reasonable price and the seating inside is spacious and clean. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient, which made the experience even better. They had great deals--the 4-piece chicken meal was priced the same as the 3-piece! The fried chicken was crispy, flavorful, and definitely the highlight. Some of the other chicken varieties were just okay in comparison, but still decent. Fries were tasty and nicely seasoned. Seasoned, with citrusy taste on skin, the 2-piece meal with a side and dinner roll costs around $10 but with white meat is +$1.90, so came out to around $12. Make sure to say grilled bec I was given fried at first ( I forgot to specify and also wasn't asked). Twice, there was also a little wait for the grilled. The fried bone-in chicken to me has a different flavor from other fast food fried chicken. Tasty, skin not crispy though. My family liked the classic chicken sandwich meal- fried, only with pickles, a side, around $10. Grilled wasn't an option for sandwiches. I like that the sides are not the typical fast-food options. There's fried yuca (good but some a bit fibrous), plantains, beans, rice to name a few. I like this place bec of the different sides actually. Better to get with a meal, since $4 already for a small portion. For drinks, there's also horchata (good, peanuty flavor, slightly sweet), jamaica (hibiscus), mango. Smaller size $3.30. Self-serve stations on both floors. On the app, was able to add 2 empanadas to a meal for $2. With saucy Chicken, cheese?, but will pass next time. Cholula hot sauce and ketchup on the tables. When dining in, food is brought to you and is served on a plate. Seating is available on both floors, 2nd floor has a larger area. We didn't appreciate though when an employee asked us to move from our table while waiting for our app order for another customer who ordered in-store, instead of opening up the closed section which he needed to do anyway since more customers came. This place is close to my job, so I have been here a couple of times. Each time the service was quick and friendly. It has a good amount of seating upstairs and downstairs, if dining in and its clean. The drinks are self serve which is a plus. The nuggets are my favorite very tasty, maybe a little salty for some pallets. The French fries have been hit or miss. Today they were good. Dropped by to get a late lunch/early supper around 4pm today. Plus, came here to get the $5 refillable plastic cup for the forever free drink offer when you buy a $5 St. Jude cup. You can get free drinks (including their in-house drinks and/or soft drinks from the fill-it-yourself soda machine) with the cup. Staff said you must bring the cup with you to get the free drink offer. This cup can be purchased at different Pollo Campero locations like Harlem, Herald Square, and Bryant Park in NYC for example. If you have traveled to a lot of other countries, Pollo Campero may look familiar. It is actually a fast food chain from Guatemala with 130 locations there and 400 locations worldwide. A few things set this place apart from other places. The biggest plus for me is that they offer both fried chicken and roasted chicken, and you can even mix the two in one individual meal. I tried both and they were both excellent. Admittedly, there are places with better fried chicken (like Popeye's) and better roasted chicken (most Peruvian places), but the versions of these two here are still excellent. The fried chicken is very crispy and juicy and the roasted chicken was very juicy as well. In terms of sides, they have some Latin American selections. You can get fried plantains, yuca fries, and beans. I would choose those over the standard sides that you can find anywhere like french fries, coleslaw, or mashed potatoes. For the drink, I recommend the horchata, a rice based drink that's originally from Mexico. read more

Did not expect it to be this good! I ordered 2 orders of the 2 piece meal. I wanted to have a taste of each kind of chicken. So juicy and flavor didnt miss. The mash potatoes were ok but the mac and cheese is a star side dish. You can see all the spices added into the mac and cheese. Place was empty, upstairs dining room was closed and there was maybe 1-2 employees in the front of the house. I got a refill drink (I love their horchata) and yuca fries (free side offer in their app) which is my favorite side. Portion side was small. We were walking back from a show to take the Path when we stumbled upon Pollo Campero. We had defrosted chicken in the fridge, but we just had to stop and try it. Pollo Campero IS X's childhood in Guatemala. Every time we're back, he has to have it, sometimes even twice. He's had Pollo Campero in DC, and we know there's one in Sunset Park, but we haven't been yet. Now that this is here, well, he can get his fix. To be fair, we ate it about 30 minutes later after getting home, but it was quite good. I don't think it's better than Jollibee or Bob White in JC, but it's good fried chicken. I've been wanting to try Pollo Campero for a while based on their reputation in other countries, and I was happy to see that they are on Mealpal. I went to their location near Herald Square and ordered the fried chicken sandwich with Mac and cheese and a chocolate chip cookie. I hate mayonnaise, and I was very happy that the sandwich does not include any mayo. The sandwich is pretty simple, with just chicken and pickles served on a brioche bun. Once I took a bite of the sandwich, I was very impressed. The chicken is crispy on the outside, juicy, and well seasoned, just a very flavourful sandwich. The Mac and cheese was probably the best I've had from a fast food chain. The only letdown was the chocolate chip cookie. It was hard and very dry, just a waste of money and calories. I am looking forward to going back and trying out the meals. The service was efficient, and the cashier spoke English and Spanish. This was my second visit to this location, eschewing the Times Square location for fear it would be too busy. It didn't go so well this second time. First off, ALL THE TABLES, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE TWO THAT WERE IN USE, WERE DIRTY. I know that it's a busy location, but there is no excuse for this. There must be staff who is attentive enough to check and clean the dining room constantly throughout the day. I ended up having to clean my own table with wipes I carry around with me when I'm out. The other additional information beyond the dirty tables, was the staff not having any interest in shooing a homeless person who had come in the restaurant to put beverages from the beverage station into a bottle. I know that there is a homeless problem in NY, but that was not sanitary. She ended up leaving on her own. At least two people I watched enter, left upon seeing the homeless woman. However, the four piece mixed chicken, the yuca fries, and the plantains were all on point. I have NO ISSUES returning again for the food. I simply wish this experience would have rivaled or exceeded my first. read more

Comparo gives you the option for extra pickles and they Come through with true extra (6 pickles) which I really liked. The sauce is different from Popeyes and very good. I've been to the other location on 8th av and was ready to write this place off. I decided to try this location and well, it redeemed Pollo Campero for me. The chicken here is fried hard and crispy. It packed better flavor and crispiness the the 8th av location. The plaintains came out perfect. I was able to get my food very quick. It came about a minute after I paid. I was a little suspicious but everything came out perfect. As always, the real star is the drink selection. There's horchata, jamaica, and mango drink available.
