I appreciated her attention to detail and she kindly asked another stylist to help blow dry my hair so I could be out faster so my husband didn't have to wait. I told her not to worry about it as timing had nothing to do w her but everything to do with my long & thick hair. She managed to have me shampoo'd, cut, dried, and styled within a little less than an hour and a half without compromising on quality. That in my books is amazing as all my other stylists have taken much longer to not compromise on quality.

Violated Their Own Policy and Lost a Loyal Customer…read more I'm disappointed to write this because I've been a happy customer at Johnny Rodriguez salon for almost a year. But my recent experience has changed how I feel about this place. What Happened: I booked an appointment online, but immediately after, I realized I wouldn't be able to make it. The problem: there's no online cancellation option. Life got busy and I wasn't able to call the salon in time to cancel. When they called to follow up, I apologized and explained I'd been overwhelmed with work. The staff was understanding and told me, "Next time, just call the salon to cancel it." Sounds reasonable, right? Not quite. The Issue: Despite their understanding response, they charged me a 50% no-show penalty. According to their own stated policy, there should be NO charge for a first-time no-show. The 50% penalty only applies if you miss multiple appointments. This was my first no-show in almost a year of being a loyal customer. Why This Bothers Me: It's not about the $30-40. It's about the principle. They violated their own policy, showed inconsistency, and treated a loyal customer poorly. If I had known there was no online cancellation option and that they'd charge me anyway despite their stated policy, I would have made the effort to call. The lack of an online cancellation system combined with the unfair penalty feels unprofessional and frankly, vindictive. A year of loyalty meant nothing when it came time to follow their own rules. I won't be coming back.

I was open to a solid full color if matching my current color wasn't possible and perhaps a trim. When I called for an Anthony mentioned in reviews, I was told he's no longer here but the other ladies are experienced. I booked an appointment and came in over the weekend. I'll admit letting someone new do anything to my hair is nerve wrecking. I ended up spending 3 hours here and paid for a laundry list of services (color, partial highlight, low lights, toner, cut, blow dry). I was shocked when it was time to pay, $350 + tip totaling nearly $400. I haven't had highlights or low lights since high school! Maybe it's a thing here, I'm just not personally into it. I really like to keep things as natural as possible and don't like putting bleach or anything along those lines in my hair. I got home and cried to my best friend trying to explain I had stripes in my hair now and they look orange. My hair is naturally curly and not a lot of people know how to blow dry or flat iron my hair properly. I felt horrible that I was charged for a blow dry because as soon as I got home I immediately got in the shower to wash all of the product out of my hair, that was put in, in an effort to blow dry it. It wasn't sectioned and blow dried or flat ironed and it felt like a mess. It was also trimmed after this, so now that I've blow dried it and flat ironed it out there is a questionable section that appears to need to be trimmed. I typically get a dry cut after a Brazilian blow out so my hair is completely straight for it. I really wanted a Brazilian blow out until I found out that would be $350! I could have flown home to my girl in LA for my roots, and a Brazilian for less than this. Call me crazy but no hair appointment should be over $800. The girl who does my color, cut and Brazilian would loose her marbles if I told her this. All in all this just isn't a style or look I like or would want to pay to keep up. I feel like as soon as I need my roots done, it would be so obvious that I needed more stripes or whatever all of this is called vs just a solid root color. I'd hate to immediately go pay for a solid color to be put over the $400 service I just paid for but at the same time it doesn't feel like me at all. Although subtle enough (which again, why did this cost so much?!?) that most may not notice, I know that I never have this done to my hair. I saw a bunch of clients coming in which is great for them but this salon isn't going to be the one for me as often as my hair grows the price for services is just outrageous compared to what I'm used to paying. I like the solid dark brown sections and I'm completely confused as to how I had all of this excess going on when I specifically booked a root touch up or solid color and trim. Sometimes you feel a bit taken advantage of when things like this happen.

I chose to come here because it SHOULD BE quick and the pricing is affordable for a wash & style. In and out, voluminous clean hair. Long story short, DryBar says on their mission statement that they provide to "people of all hair types". The many times I've been, for some odd reason, when it comes to styling and working with thick, kinky curly, natural hair, the majority of stylists are timid. Like they're scared to really perform. Almost like they don't have the training to work with this type of hair. Which is unacceptable when I'm paying to have a relaxing experience. I loved how Angel finished my hair, it was beautiful, but she took 2 1/2 hours. That's crazy. Then I go to check out and find out about their policy that if the STYLIST takes longer than an hour and a half or so, the CUSTOMER is charged an additional $30. Make it make sense. Why punish the customer, for the speed and lack of experience from the STYLIST?! That's crazy. At the end of the day, to be inclusive of all hair types, the stylists should be trained professionally on how to work confidently with all hair types.

Terry is a master when it comes to his cutting technique. I've always had thick coarse hair that…read morecan get really heavy and shapeless. Terry has a way of cutting and thinning it out so that it lays smooth and creates a natural framing style for my face. It almost changes my texture as my hair has a tendency to fall into these beachy style waves, unless I blow dry it straight. Before those waves would be half straight/half wavy due to the weight of my hair. For my thick hair girls, I highly advise to try a Japanese hair cut once in your life and see if it has you coming back. Be sure to bring an inspirational photo to help show what you are looking for. I only got a cut and it was around $60. The place is very easy to find and he works in a little suite. I showed Terry my inspiration picture and he executed it perfectly! We didn't really converse during my session but I didn't mind since I can tell he was concentrated on his work. Schedule ahead if you plan to see Terry since he gets booked out about a month or so in advance. If you ever need a good hair stylist that will execute your wishes, go see Terry!
