Took my daughter to Dama-A to celebrate her birthday, and it did not disappoint. It's located in the former Chosun Korean BBQ space, which has since closed, and the transformation is impressive. This was only my second time having hot pot, but I felt like a pro. I chose my soup base, selected my protein, then added veggies and noodles. Pro tip for fellow newbies, grab napkins and forks if you're not using chopsticks. They also have a QR code at the table that walks you through the whole process of making spring rolls, which is super helpful. (I was too full to experience this) In addition to hot pot, I selected beef bulgogi, (which you cook at the table), rice, Sigeumuchi Namul (a spinach side dish), which tasted just like my Korean mother-in-law's, a fried chicken wing, and an egg roll. Everything was delicious, and I was beyond full. Too full for the chocolate ice cream cones I saw everyone walking around with. I'll definitely be back and will bring my son, who has a much heartier appetite than I do. I'm also trying the Japchae next visit. The staff were kind, patient, and incredibly attentive, especially with first-timers. The owner even stopped by our table to say hello and ask how we were enjoying the meal, which was a really nice touch. (she immediately recognized my daughter who is obviously a repeat customer) The renovations are elegant and modern. The restaurant is clean, the veggies were fresh, and the overall experience was enjoyable. Highly recommend.

Last review of 2025. Let's go: DAM-A is an all you can eat Asian diaspora adventure. ***Emphasis*** on adventure. If you're not already well versed with Asian cuisines and/or familiar with Korean BBQ, hot pot, Vietnamese spring rolls, and the general "build it yourself" concepts going into these cuisines, it's going to be overwhelming with multiple Asian cuisines colliding in a "do it yourself" atmosphere. There's very little guidance. The staff is kind, but the vibe is very much on some "good luck, you'll figure it out." This is technically a Korean BBQ spot, but it's also hot pot, plus a DIY Vietnamese spring roll station, plus a back wall of sauces and prepared foods that dip into Chinese (and maybe Japanese?) territory. It's an Asian cultural mashup buffet, and you're responsible for making it all make sense. The spring roll station is "optimistic". They give you a bowl of water that's too small to properly soak rice paper and plates that aren't big enough to lay it flat. So yes, you will be freestyling. Get creative. You'll survive. If you want to avoid chaos, here's the move: Start with hot pot. Order your broth first so it can heat while you grab meats and veggies. Let that simmer. Then move on to Korean BBQ and grill your meats. Eat, relax, pace yourself. After that, explore the prepared foods, attempt a spring roll, and end with dessert. That order saved us from missing anything or feeling rushed. A little personal tip from me: put cooked japchae noodles inside your spring rolls. Absolutely the move. Trust me. Anyway, DAM-A is fun if you know what you're doing or come with someone who does. Find your rhythm, don't expect hand holding and accept that this is a "figure it out as you go" experience. Once you do, it's actually pretty enjoyable.

Not bad at all! I like the various meats and veggies we got to pick from. The soup base was delicious and it was a good environment. They were very on top of changing out the bbq grills to make sure its not burning up. Would I come back? Yeah, why not!

This place was phenomenal! Hot pot buffet style. Great staff that checked twice on our soup level/waters over around an hour stay - which was perfect for me. Tons of great veggie, meat, seafood, and sauce options! I also loved the ice cream machine :) It's typically $36 for dinner after 3PM, but Wednesday is $26! Highly recommend !

We went for someone's bday and it landed on a wednesday when they have 26$ deal which was AWESOME. This is a last minute plan and I had saw that someone said you must make a reservation so I made one for 30 minutes after I called. Not 100% sure if they really needed a reservation because they didn't know about the bday but that's okay! Just wanted to let everyone know that if you can't make a reservation it should be okay. They will check your ID though, so it needs to be the exact day. Food is solid. Lots of choices... almost too many choices... Hot pot broth is solid but the spiciest options were too hot for me (sichuan I think) but the second level down was a good level. Bulgogi was a little thin but still tasted good. The kimchi is weak sauce, needs to be fermented longer. Service was phenomenal, they were so on top of everything. The interior is also very nice and modern. Only complaint is more/better ventilation.

My husband and I stopped in for hot pot the other day and had a great experience. Like many hot pot places, they also have KBBQ available. However, they allow you to eat both!! (While other places in Austin make you choose one or the other) They had a great selection of meats, vegetables, sauces, seafood, fried items, sides, etc. We'll definitely be back!

This building was previously Chosun, a delicious Korean restaurant. I'm glad it has stayed Korean! This is a smaller, more intimate Hot Pot place compared to Soup Leaf. This place is great! We came for a weekday lunch. Luckily for us, it wasn't too busy, so it was super easy to get whatever foods from the raw bar whenever we wanted. Excellent selection of hot pot meats, Korean grill marinated meats, vegetables, seafood, apps, and sauces. Service was quick and friendly. I hope they stay busy enough to stay in business! Quality was great. Wasn't too loud to talk to the guests at our table.

My boyfriend and I love to visit DAM-A. We've been several times and never had to wait for a table. Everything is buffet style including the meat and sauce bar. They also have a ton of options including seafood and veggies that are always fresh. It isn't too loud or crowded inside either. Highly recommend!

I like how you can choose your meat from the freezer! I really like this spot for their kbbq over other places because a lot of the meat are thinly sliced. I wish you can just do kbbq or just do hot pot as an option. Usually places do both as an add on but here they only have bother because I think just the grill or just the hot pot is enough. The workers were nice and they cleared our tables often and the inside if cute and not too crowded when we went.

So this was an awesome experience. I wasn't that hungry until I got here. I was a bit overwhelmed at first and didn't know where to start. But as I walked around I noticed it was a very nice place and very clean. The service was great too. I enjoyed trying everything they had to offer since you get the soup broth and a cook top to try different things. They switched out the cook top for us a few times without even having to ask. We had a group of 4 and could have sat 2 more. So a great spot for a big group.

Took my sister here for her bday because they have a special where you get a free meal if you come on your bday. Must make a reservation! And they do check your ID, so don't try to cheat! The concept: kbbq and shabu shabu all in one! You also have the liberty to grab all the things you want, which they have a great selection of. Meats, veggies, sauces, noodles, fried things - they have everything! We invited our friend Gabby and he ended up going the next day to take his parents, and then he's brought other friends there, as well as told others to go there! Great value, great price, friendly service and they even took a Polaroid of us since it was my sister's bday!

Today my family and I stopped by Dam-A for the first time. We went at an off time (after lunch between dinner) so it was very easy to get a table. We were probably one of the only parties in the restaurant which makes sense since we went at 2:30pm. There is plenty of parking as this place is in a standalone building. Location-wise I think this is in a random area away from foot traffic. Since it is a weekend the price is $36 per person regardless of lunch and dinner and you get both hotpot and KBBQ. Immediately after being seated somebody came by to give us waters and take our broth orders. I appreciated that they timed it to where the broth would be ready by the time you got back to the table after picking out your ingredients. I enjoyed the variety of vegetables and meats for both hot pot and kbbq but when I was picking out ingredients I noticed a huge dead fly on the mushrooms. This probably means that the fly had probably been on the same spot for a while. It took me a while to flag down an employee so I let the person who brought out our broths know that there was a dead fly in one of the veggie tubs. They told me they would deal with it, but they didn't even ask me any details on where I saw it so it sat there out on the floor for a while. I ended up letting another employee know after a while and they immediately took it away. I think it makes sense that there isn't someone constantly checking on the veggies since it was at a non-peak hour but it's still off putting to see that sit out. As for the food, I ordered the mala broth and it was a good level of spicy to where it wasn't numbing or painful. I wish it was more flavorful, it felt like it was missing something. I also noticed that the employees continually replenish the meats. I liked the sauce bar as well, there are plenty of options for sauces and condiments. They also have various side dishes that are self serve as well. There are also fruits and desserts (brownies and soft serve) as a sweet treat. Everything except for the broth is self serve. Overall the food was decent but there were some instances where I questioned the cleanliness of it all. I think the price point of their AYCE is pretty consistent to what I've seen at similar places from where I'm from (Dallas). This is the closest thing I could find in Austin to malatang and feel like maybe that's a concept they should consider exploring since they pretty much have all of the components!

I made a Yelp reservation for 2 people for a Friday night at 6:00 pm. The restaurant was only half occupied and there was plenty of free parking available in the parking lot. We were sat immediately at a 4 top table near the buffet, and I was surprised to see there was also a kbbq grill because I only knew walking in that this place offers hot pot! I choose a tonkotsu soup base for my hot pot, and then we were free to choose meats, veggies, sides and sauces from the buffet! They had a variety of options from each category to choose from, and everything was so organized and clean! All the ingredients were fresh, flavorful, and prepared well. After our bbq grill got dirty from the marinated meats, there was a staff member making rounds and changing out the grills to new ones. I have been to other all you can eat hot pot and kbbq restaurant, such as KPOT in South Austin, and DAM-A exceeds all of the other placed I've tried! This is a fanastic place for a date night or a friend get together. Come hungry!

Hmmm... DAM-(A). Came to try this new spot during the first week they were open, and I will say this place left a lot to be desired. The selection was a little underwhelming, they have all of the basic items for hot pot, minus fish balls which was a little sad. And to be honest I've never actually been to a AYCE hot pot place where you get your own meat. After this experience, I can see why they aren't very abundant. There is something about digging into a trash bag full of frozen meat that doesn't seem to appetizing (trust me it isn't). The soup broth we got was also underwhelming, it more or less was flavorless hot water. We didn't try the KBBQ, but not sure I will be back to give it a try. One thing I will say is my bar for measuring how good a buffet/AYCE place is based on the selection, and service, and DAM-A fell pretty short on both. Selection was sparse, and not one time did someone come to take our dirty plates, or fill up our water; however, they did bring our check before we asked for it so maybe they were trying to tell us something? With the other options in Austin I may need to stick to the go-to's for hot pot and KBBQ. read more

It was great to be back at the former Chosun Galbi. I loved their KBBQ and now its both Hotpot and KBBQ and the options and set up are amazing! I liked the self serve set up and staff were great at explaining how everything worked. I heard a waitress at the next table explaining the concept to new guests and helping them pick out their drink selection. Staff were also very attentive to clearing away empty dishes to keep clutter minimal. Our waters were refilled pretty regularly and same with the grill so there weren't any burning smells. Food wise, i got the mushroom soup for hot pot and it was ok- maybe a little mild for flavor so I wish there was a little more seasoning. The mala hot pot was better seasoned and had a kick! I heard from another review that the seafood hot pot was great for making your own Army stew, which i will need to try another time. Pricing for the hotpot and kbbq was very fair, especially with the appetizers already available. My only wish was for the short ribs cause that was my favorite kbbq meat. I also wish there were more options for the side dishes, like the potatoe, radishes, anchovie, etc. Overall, I had a great time and would be back! read more

I loved Cho Sun Galbi, and was very excited for this new opening. The service was kind and I felt welcomed, even with them being so busy. KBBQ: The bbq meats tasted great and it felt like there was good variety. I'd be willing to come back for that alone, and I loved that they gave the option of having green leaf lettuce for wrapping. Hotpot: The hotpot had good veggie options. Some of my noodles, the knife cut ones, stuck together so it was a little harder to eat. I do wish they offered the wide sweet potato noodles, but that's my personal preference. As well as maybe not cutting the noodles so short. Most of what I'd eat at hotpot were there. Spring roll bar: I think it could be great with some tweaking. I liked that there was hot water available for dipping the wraps. The noodles for it were not what would usually be used, as it had pho noodles instead of the vermicelli or bean thread and I had some difficult figuring out how to cook it without using my hotpot broth but ended up doing that anyway. I do wish there were herb options for the spring rolls Other things to note: - I didn't get to try the hot appetizers and desserts, so I can't speak to those - the kimchi was delicious, it was fresh and a little on the sweeter side - the rice was initially well done, but the second batch was different and I'm not sure what changed. Overall, I like the restaurant and I'm glad it's here. I did feel like there was a lot going on and it felt a little chaotic going the first time and wanting to try every aspect of it. My table was full before I even started cooking! I'll for sure be back, but I'll definitely need a better game plan. read more

Delicious! Cute, vibey ayce kbbq/hotpot. There's an abundance of fresh veggies to choose from. Marinated meat and frozen shabu shabu slices. They also have seafood to choose from as well. Everything was really good, clean and organized. Would have loved if they offered asian flavor ice cream or mochi. Service was extremely friendly and inviting. Give this place a try! I went here recently. The place is pretty cute and the ambiance is great. The broth options were great and there were a lot of options. They had a good sauce bar and the service was really good too! Everyone was super nice and kept checking in frequently. It was all self serve from the general veggies and sea food to the meat. The starters were pretty good, my fav was the japchae fs, and they also had some fried items. The meat was frozen in a freezer with a sliding door which was pretty convenient so the only thing I needed to ask for was the broth refills (an introvert's dream lol). They also had a spring roll bar which was really cool, the only thing was that the rice papers were squares but it's chill tbh. They had ice cream and brownies for dessert. They had a coffee machine and cut fruits which were good. read more

The only qualm I have about this place is the fact that we have to grab our own meat, but I can see why some people might like that as it allows for them to have control over their portions. Otherwise, the food is great, the servers are incredible, and the restaurant itself is aesthetically appealing. I'm a semi-frequent customer and I've never had a single complaint about the quality of the food or service. read more

Overall, one of our favorite KBBQ/hot spots in town! We've tried several of the other KBBQ and hot pot spots and town, and this one is up there among the best. The broths offered are super solid, and the quality of the meats when we have gone have consistently been very fresh. The service has been very quick and attentive each time we have gone. There is a good selection of veggies and the desserts offered are shockingly good for an AYCE spot. Good spot for a casual and filling dinner! read more

I will say this place is really good and worth the money and here is why. 1. It's all you can eat and you can Korean bbq and also hotpot at the same time which is amazing for the price of one. 2. The way the soup is ordered and all the meats and vegetables are section off and organized makes it easy and also there is cooked food in the back for like appetizers. Also has a big sauce selection too. 3. Final is that the price is very reasonable for doing hotpot and Korean bbq and if you go in Wednesday the price for dinner is the same price as lunch. I have been there twice and have no complaints about eating there. The service is good and friendly, except there is one server kind of older Asian man that the two times I have been there kinda gives me weird looks or something but I don't let it ruin my time when I go with family and friends. Definitely recommend for hangouts and getting food with friends. read more

We loved it! My husband and I enjoyed everything! It is serve yourself, so you are not going to see super high end meats. However, that is understandable. It's still worth it for the freedom to choose small portions of some things and larger of others you prefer. Everything is super fresh and high quality. The service was extremely friendly! Everything was clean and well stocked. I'm looking forward to places like this becoming more common around the United States! It's pretty healthy compared to most. We both had Miso soup broth. It wasn't super strong in flavor, but that is key. You are the one that adds the flavor. If it's not salty enough, they have soy sauce and all kinds of sauces to create whatever flavor suits you. To say Korean BBQ here is bland, just means you're not doing it right, yet. read more

We love coming to this place with friends, family co workers just to eat. I love this place so much that sometimes I would come 3 times a week. Then I stop, then go the same streak.... I went for my golden birthday and could not have picked a better place! I love that everything is included in the price and you really get to build your own experience here. This was a great experience. So many choices and so many options. Amazing and delicious KBBQ. Unlimited. Hot pot has many choices and the broth was fantastic. Loads of fresh options (meat, fish, veges). Large choice of sauces to use to make your own spring rolls or use for dipping sauces or add to hot pot. The prices are very reasonable. Decided to come fora try on a Wednesday after getting a craving for some hotpot and bbq, I saw this place opened after Chosun and was excited to give it a try, especially with this cold weather. Let me say, I was not disappointed at all! Food was all excellent and was actually surprised that the Mala broth was in fact spicy (not painful, just the right amount of heat for my taste). The variety of meats and vegetables was great, and the appetizer choices were delicious (japchae was a table favorite). I will be returning very soon! Finally a place where I don't have to choose between my 2 favorite things! The service was great as well, our waiter was always checking in with us. I would recommend this place to anyone who has been to any type of korean bbq place before. If not, dont worry, they will explain everything. When we first went in, they explained how everything works and even what meats will cook faster in hotpot. If it's slow, sometimes, they will cook for you. And they just reopened, so its very calm and slow and customer service based at the moment. And they have a promotion going on right now, so definitely go and check it out. read more

One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had in Austin! I went with a large group (8) to celebrate my partner's birthday. DAM-A was extremely accommodating, and our server Yunji was wonderful. The layout is almost like a supermarket, with fresh meats, veggies, seafood, and all kinds of other goodies. You can grab anything you want, as much as you want, and take it back to your table. Everyone at the table gets to choose their own broth, and you load it up with your favorite foods while you throw some meats on the grill. We even had a vegan with us and she loved her meal, the selection of veggies and tofu is top notch! The food was delicious and we had an absolute blast cooking and eating and celebrating together. This spot was close to my hotel, and on my departure day, I decided to have one last hit of Q. It's a big restaurant, and it appears to also be quite the music venue. When I went, a little on the early side for a Friday dinner, there was not a wait and I was sat immediately. My server was attentive, and got me in, fed, and back out in plenty of time to catch my already delayed flight. I ordered their 3 meat combo plate, which also came with two sides, and added on a piece of cornbread. I chose brisket of course, as well as turkey and sausage. The server recommended the serrano pepper spinach (like a creamed spinach) and onion rings, and I took those recs. The best of the three meats was the turkey. Not a good sign. It was moist and tender, though not particularly smokey. Even so, I enjoyed it more than the brisket and sausage, which I would have guessed the reverse when ordering. The brisket was on the dry side and kind of bland, it did not smack of being freshly carved. The Stubbs BBQ sauce helped me eat some of it... now I see why they are famous for their sauce. I had a couple bites of the sausage and pushed it aside, I didn't enjoy their recipe on that at all. It was cooked seemingly well, but the blend of spices and meat they use wasn't pleasant to me. The sides, the onion rings were very crispy which I like, but again... something in the batter. Maybe even the oil they were cooked in, I did not enjoy as much. The spinach was actually quite enjoyable, maybe even a little rich. I think if it were warmer, if might help milden out some of that. It was really thick. The cornbread wasn't worth the add-on. No sweetness or anything to make it memorable. Vessel for butter. The portion was massive, and I had leftover food, but did not take it... and that would have been the case even if I wasn't headed to the airport. I wouldn't recommend this spot.

Take this review as someone who really enjoys BBQ (and any slow cooked meat for that matter) but who could not list more than 10 BBQ restaurants they have eaten at in the last 5 years. So the beef ribs. Great texture, tender meat but still had a bite to it. Expertly seasoned so they were not wet with sauce but still moist. I would consider 1 beef rib a snack, 2 a small meal. I also tried the chopped brisket (brisket and burnt ends sitting in a soup of BBQ sauce). That was also delicious (and more reasonably priced), but I could have done with slightly less sauce. It really was like a soup and while the sauce was tasty, there was too much of it. I went later in the afternoon (around 2/2:30pm) and got their last two beef ribs so going earlier is better. You order at the open kitchen and then pay at the counter when your food is ready. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, you can take your food and sit at any of their tables of which they have many (this place is pretty big). I cannot comment on how this place stacks up to other BBQ spots in Austin, but I very much enjoyed the beef ribs.

I recently visited DAM-A in Austin, and while the flavors absolutely delivered, the overall experience had its highs and lows. First, the food: the broths were rich and full of depth, the stew meats were tender and satisfying, and the grill meats were exceptionally seasoned -- some of the best I've had in this style. They also offer a robust variety of noodles, sauces, and toppings, which made it fun to build a custom bowl packed with flavor. Their teas were exceptional, clearly brewed with care and attention. On the other hand, the water was surprisingly bad, which stood out in contrast to everything else. The ambiance leans more family-style -- bustling and casual. It may not be ideal for a quiet 1:1 date, but it would be a great spot for a fun double date or group outing. Now for the downside: there was only one server managing the entire floor during our visit. While they were doing their best, service felt extremely minimal -- slow, with very little table upkeep. It wasn't unfriendly, just understaffed, which really impacted the experience. The restroom was fair -- functional but showing its age, and could use an upgrade. Overall, DAM-A serves fantastic food in a casual setting, but for the full experience to shine, the service and facility upkeep need to catch up. I'd come back for the food, but I'd also cross my fingers for a more staffed night. read more

I recently visited this hotpot and KBBQ spot and had a mostly positive experience. I went with the tomato broth, which was flavorful and definitely better than some competitors in the area, though I personally prefer it to have an even richer depth/deeper flavors. One thing I really appreciated was the buffet-style meat selection. I find it easier to control portions this way compared to ordering off a tablet, though it can feel a little chaotic at times. The sauce bar had so many options to customize your flavors. The meat selection wasn't overwhelming, but the quality was solid for an AYCE spot. There were plenty of vegetable options, which I loved, though the crawfish could have used more seasoning. Desserts and ice cream were a nice touch, though I wished they had chocolate. Service was a bit slow, and while I'm not sure if the staff were supposed to assist with cooking, we ended up doing most of it ourselves. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for variety, quality ingredients, and a customizable experience, just be prepared for a more hands-on meal. read more

I was hesitant to try another KBBQ after not loving the previous tenant, especially an all-you-can-eat spot--but don't knock it until you try it. The open display of seafood and meats surprised me, and I was a bit wary of kids handling the tongs. Pro tip: avoid the "clean" tongs on top. Spoiler alert: it's probably dirty from a kid. That said, the selection impressed me--scallops, clams, baby octopus, and a variety of fresh, marinated meats and a freezer full of sliced meats. Service was generally attentive, though a drink menu would have be handy. Expect a loud atmosphere during peak hours. One standout feature is the high-quality grills with built-in vents, effectively minimizing smoke. You'll still carry that KBBQ scent, but it's less intense than usual. Banchan options are limited, but they make up for it with a sauce bar where you can mix your own or follow their recipes. Overall, Dam-A delivers a satisfying and unique KBBQ experience that's worth coming returning to. read more

Dam-A is an outstanding hotpot and grill experience! I recently visited with a friend, and I was immediately impressed by how clean and organized the restaurant was. Everything was spotless and well-arranged, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The staff were also incredibly accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed and were quick to respond to our requests. One of the things that stood out was the thoughtful separation of meats and veggies for the grill and hotpot, preventing any cross-contamination and catering to different dietary preferences. The addition of a dessert and sauce bar was also a fantastic touch, offering a wide variety of options to customize our meal and satisfy our sweet tooth.
