Here's my go-to: -bowl -spicy red pepper hummus (THIS is what separates Damascus from other places. The hummus has a fantastic smoky flavor with a slight kick!) -rice -chicken schwarma -purple cabbage (I love their cabbage!!! It's perfectly vinegary.) -cucumber yogurt -lettuce -a little onion (Not too much!) -pickles -tahini sauce I seem to always order the same thing when I go but why would I change anything?! It's consistent in quality and fairly reasonably priced. The only downside is how chilly it is in the seating area. Damascus Falafel is one of our favorite places for carry out. We order from them frequently for Saturday nights on our deck. One of us is Vegan and Gluten Free and the other loves chicken. We can always find dishes that work for us. The food is outstanding. Everything is fresh and they make fantastic falafels. The French fries are excellent as well. The old menu used to have GF and V denoted so we are familiar with what works for us. I hope the new menu will spell out GF and V again for new customers. There are other similar restaurants in the area but there is no doubt that this is the #1 best Mediterranean restaurant in the western suburbs. read more

I've had Damascus Falafel bookmarked for who knows how long. Another Yelper and I were in the area at Waterfall Glen, so stopped here for dinner. The process was pretty Chipotle-esque. I got a Falafel Bowl with baba ganoush, bulgar, tomato salad, veggies, and garlic sauce. It all worked well together as a whole, but I didn't taste any of the baba nor garlic sauce separately: the flavors weren't very pronounced. I liked the bulgar (first time I'd had it), and their Falafels were really tasty and unique with sesame seeds on top. We shared baklava. I'm normally a huge fan, but didn't much like this one. It wasn't sweet, the nuts were indistinguishable, and the inside contained a pasty substance. I've never had baklava like that. In the future I'd skip it. They have a selection of bottled, canned, and fountain drinks. The guy taking our order was a bit brusque. Additionally, he was a bit difficult to understand, and I'm normally good with understanding accents. The space was pretty clean, though the garbage was nearly overflowing. I like that they use biodegradable bowls. In all, it was a pretty good food experience: healthy and filling, but not heavy. read more

This fast Middle East restaurant is fantastic. Love the Subway/Chipotle do it your way food assembly. Schwarma and falafel bowls were excellent, with generous portions of healthy and tasty food. The healthy options are excellent, with the bulgur wheat for the bowls being a revelation. The tabouli was an exercise in showing how great parsley can be when fresh and mixed with the right ingredients. With olives, grilled chicken thrown in, the melange of flavor lingers beautifully. Wow I am SO JAZZED I finally tried this place....I had heard good things but the strip Mall its in is a little sketch but wow they have done an amazing job cleaning it up and making it nice. Agree with other reviews: SPOTLESS and friendly staff. I've been jonesing for good falafel since I left DC and this really hits the spot. The bowl concept is cool(I will try the wraps next time...like tomorrow...) and the ingredients are gorgeous and super fresh. The red pepper hummus is sublime and on the bulgur with the fresh cucumbers I am basically wiping tears of joy from my face as I write this. Ok. So we visited for the first time last night. We drove about 15 minutes to get there even though there were closer Middle Eastern/Mediterranean places. We came due to the raving reviews. I have to say, we were quite disappointed. First, the dining area was untidy. It was early evening, not too busy. There were several people behind the counter. One of them should have been in the dining area straightening and cleaning off tables and sweeping the floor. I've been to a few similar establishments. This place only had two choices - a bowl or wrap. No pita choice. You could order pita's separately for 75 cents each. But you could no choose a Pita as your "transport mode". I selected a bowl. It was relatively large so I thought... great. BUT, they did not fill the bowl, so psych! They had no chicken shwarma available so they had a few of us waiting. Normally, all the sides and sauces on go on top of the meat selection. But because we were waiting on the chicken, they made my bowl "upside down". I didn't care for it made that way. Also the chicken tasted overcooked and bland. They were just about out of one of the four sauces, the one I wanted. They scraped the "bottom of the barrel" to give my husband and I about a tablespoon of it. Shouldn't they be stocked up during dinner time? There wasn't anymore in the back? The other thing I didn't like was they had no fountain drinks... just overpriced bottled drinks. All in all, I would go to Roti's in Oak Brook or Naf Naf gril over this place. Sorry! read more

I'm so happy to have this option for fast casual Middle Eastern food a quick drive from home. This kind of place seems to be popping up all over, and I've been underwhelmed as often as not. Thankfully, when I tried Damascus Falafel, everything met or exceeded my expectations. You're all familiar with the model - pick a protein and format, what toppings and sauces you like (within well defined limits) and pay at the end. On my visit, I found the service to be pleasant and helpful (I did mention that it was my first time there), particularly from the woman staffing the first station--she was fantastic. I had a good idea of what I wanted prior to entering the restaurant, but it was helpful to be able to see the toppings in person. I opted for the beef shawarma lettuce bowl with regular hummus, Arabic salad and cucumber yogurt, pickles, onions and cucumbers, topped with hot sauce. I got a couple of falafels (discs rather than balls) as well. Let me tell you, this particular combination was absolutely delicious. The freshness and texture of the produce was fantastic and the meat had a great charred flavor. The only thing I might change next time is to get the purple cabbage as a topping. It looked great. They smear the hummus (or baba ghanoush) at the bottom of the bowl, so don't get the idea it would be easy to use as a "dip" for your side order of falafel or pita. That may be true in the platter version - not sure. It's not the cheapest meal option around. The parking lot is a wee bit tight (as in you might be backed into or vice versa).
