I very rarely write reviews on any websites or for any products, but felt compelled to do so this time. My guy G, the head barber at the Dame and Dapper on Washington, has had some misinformation put out about him and it's not sitting well with me. I been living in San Diego for 13 years now, and G's been my go to barber for 10 of them. I've followed him to about 3 or 4 different shops over those years, including his own crib during Covid, because G's consistency and professionalism are unmatched. It's been that way the entire time I've known him. He's always available and has accommodated last minute cuts for me more times than I can recall. He's never made me wait or failed to give me a heads up if life gets in the way. I'm a grown man and value my time, and G respects that and the time of his customers. By the way, the cut is always crispy and has been for a decade and counting. Don't buy into the misinformation from other reviews. Use caution when putting credence into negative reviews from people who are emotional or defending a former employee. I don't know specifics of any things beyond my experiences with Dame and Dapper and G, and they've been positive. I've been a regular here for about a year. I want to say thank you to the two gentlemen that are always friendly and enjoyable to spend time with. Manny is the first face I usually see. I get my ears lowered by "G" however and my hair looks perfect every time. I notice they are friends and friendly with every person in the area too. I was really disappointed with the haircut I got from G. I asked for a shaggy, queer faux-hawky cut and brought in several reference photos. What I got was a "8 year old boy choosing his own haircut for the first time" mohawk, complete with a shiny, stiff point. The skin fade on the sides is well done, but I feel like G didn't even bother to look at the photo examples I brought. G offered to add some product to make it look more messy and organic, but my hair is too short now to get anything close to the look I wanted. I was really hoping for a gender-affirming cut from a "queer barber" but this was just one more horrible haircut experience. I feel what I wanted was ignored. I liked my hair better before it was cut, and I wish I hadn't got it done. Also wound up covered in someone else's hair under the drape, but honestly that's the least of my concerns. I have been going to Dame and Dapper since January 2022 when I moved to the neighborhood. I usually get nervous changing barbers but after my first cut with G, I never felt more confident in my hair style. I am in such a routine with getting my cut with him now that I don't even need to tell him what I want, he just knows. I have received many compliments from friends about my hair and I usually never did before I started getting it cut by G. I definitely recommend him, even if it's your first time at Dame and Dapper, just be sure to tell him what you want how you want it and he will work with you to get you looking right. The whole experience at Dame & Dapper is pretty smooth. It's a small shop but it's chill. All Barbers are very welcoming and it is more of a laid back vibe. They usually have some old school movies or TV shows playing on the TVs which I actually look forward to each time I go there. It's clear that they have many regulars who frequent this barbershop because I always see the same faces coming in and out, some to get a haircut and some just stop by to say hi. I wouldn't recommend this place and what makes it worst of an experience is that they don't even own up to it and make Yelp moderators take it off. I had to change my original review after someone from the organization felt the need to flat out lie on Yelp and criticize me for my not wanting to donate to someone that appeared to be taking a vacation and unable to pay for it. I received an email that said NOTHING about underprivileged youth, but was about a barber from your establishment taking a trip to show people how to cut hair. It said nothing about this individual looking for donations to help those in need, but rather, to fund his trip since all costs have been out of his own pocket. I am including the email that you sent to me and would love for you to point out exactly where it mentions donations were to go to underprivileged families. There is a reason I no longer support your business, and your response and the lies you posted solidified why I will never return. If you're going to lie, make sure you remember what you wrote in an email to your customers, rather than making it up as you go. Now all of your potential customers will be able to read that you lied just like I knew all along. Telling the truth isn't difficult. Oh, and STOP having your friends and family write your reviews. After shaving my own head for years, I decided to give the local barbershop a try for something cleaner and more refined. Unfortunately, I walked out with a HEAD FULL OF SCARS. Sure, I nick myself here and there when I do it, but nothing so pervasive and nothing as big as all of these scars. It's embarrassing, disturbing, and. NOT the look I was going for right before a big trip with friends. Not a boost to confidence :( I thought after a couple of days, the scars would start to go away, but they aren't. The lady apologized, but in a casual "they are no big deal" type of way that wasn't indicative of them actually being a real problem that is the first thing people notice when they see me. Last week I got my hair cut by Donnie, and let me tell you. To say I enjoyed the experience, is an understatement. He has a heart of gold and a solid work ethic. Even after a busy day of work he still put forward good energy and gave me a solid fade and beard trim. My favorite part of the whole thing was the conversation. It felt I was talking to a member of the family and he gave me some good life advice. G is very good at what they do and this is a very nice chill place for a cut! Tamed that mane of mine in time for my trip to Berlin. I didn't want to risk going somewhere like supercuts since I'd gone and done a little damage with some scissors when it got too unkepmt. G didn't skip a beat.
