Went to dame on Thursday night with a few friends. From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for something special. While the Willamette Week article gave us high expectations, I have to admit that Dame delivered. From the fontina filled peppers with hazelnuts to the corn + lemon + basil soup, each dish felt more creative than the last. The fist dishes are all well worth exploring, but I'd highly recommend the cucumbers and anchovy. It was dynamite. And I haven't even mentioned the wine. If you're looking to learn more about Natural wines, this is the place to visit. The last takeaway is one that I hope other restaurants will follow suit... Simple desserts. After a filling and flavor filled meal, sometimes all you need is simply delicious chocolate... or fruit... or cheese. you don't need to blow me away, just leave me with a little sweet something lingering. Overall - lite and fresh dishes accompanied by great biodynamic wines and a truly wonderful staff and ambience. This was our 2nd trip to Dame, our first having been shortly after the grand opening. I selfishly hope that it I like many aspects of this little intimate gem, but the dining experience has been placed in my top category by the people and service. We have had very personable, funny, and professional servers during both outings. The co-owner/sommelier maintains a wine list with very complex, exciting, and non-traditional biodynamic wines. It's fun to flag her down and listen to the stories she has about each wine. We have never been let down by any of the wines by the glass, and they seem to have been meticulously chosen. The design of the restaurant is elegant and visually pleasing. Thought has clearly been put into every last detail - I never thought I'd love wallpaper, but theirs is sexy art deco. Also bathroom, bar, lighting, fixtures, on and on... There is something to be said for design so thoughtful and intentional. Food is fresh and lite. Wonderful fish done with vegetables and not overly heavy or imposing sauces. The quality of the seafood is allowed to stand alone. A place you can come away from not feeling stuffed and sweaty, but satisfied and healthy. We always keep this in mind for a special occasion or date night. We plan to bring friends and family here, as well, to share a great experience with them. read more

We saw the chef/owner on the Netflix snack cooking competition and immediately were a fan of her personality and performance on the show. My wife was so excited to visit and made it a point to schedule this dinner with our local family members as we were in town visiting for the weekend. Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy our food and when we mentioned to the server that 3 out of 5 of our entrees were extremely salty, there was no apology. She did offer to have it remade, but then immediately said these are typically salty dishes and that it likely wouldn't differ too much. Then, to make it worse, one of my family member was heading to the bathroom and overheard the server and cooks talking about our complaints in an incredibly rude and unprofessional manner and saying we were just trying to find any excuse to not like the entrees and be a pain. When the bill came, we were surprised to see that there was no comp for at least one of the entrees that went almost completely uneaten. We ate most of the other two (we were starving) so that's obviously fair to charge for those. But I've worked in the food service industry for many years and if someone says they don't like their food and doesn't eat it, then that dish gets comped. That's just the right thing to do and is basic customer service. Overall a really disappointing experience with awful service. We won't be going back. read more

Our party of 4 was super pleased with our dinner! We started with blackened shishitos which weren't too spicy and had a balanced accompaniment of lemon, salt and olive oil. Beet salad is what followed and It was delicious. I chose the salmon special as my main and it was divine. 2 in our group had the flank steak and raved about it. The rockfish, also, was yummy I was told. Service was excellent, the ambiance is comfortable and attractive, and our bottle of Italian orange wine (recommended by the somm) delightful. So on my first visit to DAME, I very much wanted to like the place. Indeed, the location, interior decor and overall ambience, even the food, was wonderful. Not fully conversant in biodynamic wine, I asked the server about the flavor profile of a Müller Thergau. I expected a somewhat detailed, description. You know the: white peach, limestone, plum, citrus etc. Instead I got a one word response: "electric"! At first I thought it was cute and irreverent - I even ordered the wine. But as I've thought about it, was "electric" a good way to help describe a wine to a less than wine-literate patron? Or was it a smug, perhaps condescending, and tasteless (pardon the pun) rejoinder. I really want to like DAME. If I've maligned them unfairly, I invite feedback here. I'm more than willing to adjust my review if someone can convincingly call me out on this. My partner and I went in for a early dinner on a Friday evening. The atmosphere is wonderful. The interior is well thought out and beautiful. I appreciate their thoughtfulness and attention to detail in all the ways. We are both fully vaccinated and sat at the bar. I love that they are keeping their staff and patrons safe with mask and vaccinations. I really appreciate a business who is doing that. Caring for it's staff's safety and also the safety of the patrons. Our meal was fantastic, we started with gazpacho and I had a Caesar salad which was excellent and the ahi tuna. Which was cooked to perfection. My partner had cacio e pepe which was also outstanding. We also shared dessert. There wine list was extensive and delicious we had a fantastic Red Zin. The real star of the show was the staff. We were very well taken care of. Every detail was thought about and every effort to make our experience memorable. This was great. The food is a riot of flavors. The smelt was delicious. Our table also got the salmon which also drew raves. My wife got the rock fish which was cooked to perfection and was accompanied by thinly sliced sauteed summer squash and thinly sliced pickled zucchini both of which were nicely spiced. I adore this restaurant! My husband and I ate there last night and the food and service was terrific. We had the caesar salad (which I don't normally like, but it was delicious), the octopus, and the whole trout. The trout was so moist and tender, which I think can be a rarity when dinning out. For drinks, we were craving whiskey and even though the drink I wanted wasn't on the cocktail list, the bartender immediately looked up a recipe and made it for me. It was delicious and I really appreciated the top notch service. If I could go back again today, I would. This one is not to be missed. OMG- that's what I kept saying as I dined and drank excellent wine at Dame. But the restaurant needs to be called Kiley. She was our server and AMAZING!!!!!! This lovely woman knows her wine and suggested two great bottles we had a dinner. And both well priced at about $45.00 a bottle. We had the Roussanne and the Deux Ouefs both by Swick Wines. Plus, we bought a bottle of Roussanne and three other bottles of different wines to have at home - all well priced. The location of this restaurant is so great. 30th and N. Killingsworth - it's like four corners of cool restaurants, great outdoor vibe and so fun on a Saturday night. We started with the ricotta whip with perfectly toasted pita points, then the broccolini sauteed perfectly with garlic, golden raisins, with almond caper wine and then the beef carpaccio with a hint of chile. We had the summer salad with burrata, so beautiful with cantaloupe and watermelon. For dinner I had the risotto with saffron butter and my partner had the carbonara. Both these dishes were like heaven on earth. The presentation was so pretty, I hesitated to eat to not disturb but I did eat!! I love Dame. I will be back for the food,wine and Kiley :) read more

Excellent new spot in Portland. The food is great, solid wine list, and lots of natural light if you come in at an earlier time. A few standout dishes were the friend anchovies, any salad :), and the lamb neck. There was only ONE lamb neck for the day (they only get one lamb in per day) and we came in early enough to get it.
