However, the cinnamon flavor was overwhelmingly strong, while the sweetness of the pumpkin was completely absent. How could it be so awful?! This is a cute little coffee shop that's in the center of Jersey city! I love the exposed brick that's inside the expresso bar, adds to the rustic feel of the place. It's definitely one of those places that you could grab a seat by the window and study or ready a book all day. The pasteries were tempting, the chocolate croissant especially seemed delicious. I got myself a chai and this place is literally called coffee espresso bar! I wasn't really impressed by the chai if I'm being honest! But I went inside and I smelled the coffee and I think that's definitely the way to go! Upon walking you see a cute quaint wooden faced sign. Beautiful window seat already occupied. Wall community table. Small tables inside. Snacks available. Juices too! And extra outside courtyard seating with a a lovely rose bush. Prices reasonable, I got the small hot chai with oat milk. It was made so0o quick! It's not too sweet, the spices are a bit too strong for me but I still enjoyed it. No gluten free options here I see. But that's okay. Very small to sit in front of the cafe but I got to enjoy the whole backyard to myself & journal. What a great place here in JC! read more

Those that follow me closely on Yelp will be getting a lot of coffee bar reviews through the summer! I've made it my mission to go to a new one at least once a week to spice things up... this week: Dames! Dames is right down the block from my apartment so it's super super convenient. Doesn't hurt too that the coffee is so good! Today, I got my signature small vanilla latte and a blueberry muffin while my boyfriend opted for a cafe au lait and a slice of banana bread. Everything was to die for, so tasty and the perfect temperature. I feel like out of the other coffee bars in the area, Dames is also really reasonably priced. The individuals working behind the counter are always quick to greet anyone that walks in and are super friendly! Their suggestions are awesome and they love to get people to try their seasonal beverages. Dames is also in this cute little space with local artwork on the walls that adds a nice touch. Dames is definitely my go to coffee spot in JC! read more

A good cup of cappuccino always gets four stars from me. Nice interior and they have a patio inside! Just ask to make sure it's open and the staff will show you the way. Only downside is that sitting area inside is closed so not a place to bring laptop and work. read more

Delightful place, eclectic Jersey City coffee shop with some delightful flavors of tea and coffee. Seating is for less than 10 people. Most people come in for a take out. Since it was Christmas Eve there was only one friendly staffer. I only wish she had not poured cram into my coffee making it milky. I could have done that myself. It's the smiles on everyone's face in the shop that lifts me up. The coffee, esp Lattee is really good. It hits the spot for me compared all places around. What a cute little coffee spot! My partner and I were walking downtown and she was feeling extra tired so we stopped in. There's currently no indoor seating, but they have a garden area and a bench out front. Since I'm currently on the saddest medical diet (gastritis, so no caffeine, no citrus, no happiness), I got a blueberry tea. While it probably DOES have caffeine, it doesn't have nearly as much as a cup of coffee (normally) so I felt pretty safe here. My partner got an iced latter and said she loved it. It was pretty cheap, really cute inside, and convenient to go to. Once I can enjoy my delicious coffee again I'll be coming back here. read more

A few years ago, I discovered jersey city. My esthetician is located here and I put a friend on. my friend told me about this yummy bakery where the banana bread is ! That I went to get a facial, you can not leave JC with out visiting this cute bar! The drinks are yummy and just feel like they made with love and the baked goods . Today, I tried a fresh juice! I haven't actually tried the coffee here yet but they make a great chai latte! It's a cute little place but with some seating and free wifi to do work if you need to. They also have a secret garden in the back that is so cute and perfect for warm days. I also tried the blueberry muffin they have here and it was so good! I wonder where they get their pastries from or if they make them... The baristas were friendly and quick to take orders. I was here on a Sunday morning and it wasn't too busy. Curious to know if they get busier on weekdays. The location is a few blocks away from Newark Ave so it's a little off the Main Street which might keep it quieter. Overall I would recommend coming here for a pastry or coffee. They don't have any savory snacks or sandwiches though. I would give them 5 stars but they only take cash! read more

It's a neighborhood place, and is probably great for a residential neighborhood. I was in the mood for hot chocolate and asked the woman behind the counter, what is in the hot chocolate. Alright,maybe I could have passed it better, but i didn't expect a laugh and a slightly condescending answer of 'chocolate and milk'. I expect a cafe to tell me what kind of cocoa powder. When I elaborated, she looked confused and tried to check, but couldn't figure that out either. So....you don't know what kind of hot chocolate you serve...? I then decided to go down the safe route of tea...which also failed to impress me. their green tea tastes like toasted rice tea from a Korean restaurant, and less like green tea. I also had 'the diplomat' which is a bread pudding with filling in the middle. This was also ok, but didn't strike me as a memorable bread pudding or pastry. The space is cute and no one rushes you, but it's small. The total number of seats can't be more than 14, and that's with everyone elbow to elbow. Overall, the woman annoyed me and their offerings couldn't make up for me. So I can't say if recommend coming back. read more

I absolutely love small coffee shops. This quaint one is located in downtown Jersey City. It can be easily missed but if you're just strolling around the beautiful neighborhood you'll be lured by the amazing coffee smell. I haven't been here during a rush hour morning, but I would think that it'll be a tight spot LOL there is some seating in the front but during really nice weather, there is a little backyard seating. It's like a hidden gem of garden away from the concrete jungle. They serve all from teas to custom lattes. Whatever you get is sure to taste amazing. The chai latte is my favorite! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Their coffee, espresso, and lattes are delicious! The quality of the coffee is very rich and I just fell in love with the place. It also has a cozy ambience to it! Coming from a person who is cheap a'f (me) I don't mind spending a pretty penny for a cup of their heavenly goodness in a cup. I was a coffee master and barista at a previous coffee shop and take it from me, their coffee quality is A1. I switched from Starbucks on Grove and take the walk here instead; they surpass Starbucks. To address some of the neg. comments I've seen. 1.Re. the cash only, you guys have to remember, it's a small business, a little mom and pop shop, they're revenue isn't as much as corporate giants like Starbucks who exploit places like this. To stay open in downtown JC, every penny counts and they have to pay sizable fees for credit/debit transactions. If you care about small businesses, you have to understand this. (Sorry for getting political but it's true). 2.Re. it being pricy, they have a reason to be. They bring to the table third-wave coffee, the quality of the coffee is handpicked from how it is grown, sourced, and brewed. If you want quality coffee, sometimes you pay the price. I don't know guys.....I don't know. I have mixed feelings because the espresso is delicious. But my iced coffee was very weak, didn't pack any punch or flavor. It honestly tasted like watered down coffee. And I didn't add any milk or sugar in it either. I also got an almond croissant, which I was so excited about. It looked delicious! But after a few bites, I was honestly not impressed. It tasted very dry and bland to me. The service is good and the place itself is really cozy, but I don't think I'd come here again. read more

They're nice and better than Starbucks! They carry decaf espresso and non-fat milk, which many new coffee bars do not carry for some reason. Their pastries are good but don't wait too long because they do sell out towards later in the day. Parking is usually non-existent, so plan ahead! read more

This place was such a pleasant surprise! The coffee is SO good, and the lattes have a nice strong espresso flavor. Also, it's a nice plus that the drink sizes have increased amounts of espresso shots as you go up in size (small - large). Some of the other local coffee places are definitely in the same price range as Dames, but I do feel this place gives you the most value for your drink. Nope. I don't understand all of the hype surrounding Dames. None of it! My iced almond milk latte set me back a pretty penny, clocking in at $5.75. What? Where am I? I'm expecting this to be one of most flavorful, complex lattes I have had in my life. The barista reassured me it would be "amazing." Well, it's not. I taste the almond milk more than the espresso. Very odd. I want to return it. Far better places to get coffee in Jersey City. I can say I've checked it out at least. I'll be heading back to my regular places. read more

Um, ok I'm hating on this place a bit. Let me tell you why. I had a bad customer service incident. I believe that I handed a $100 bill to the girl at the counter and got change for a $10. I meant to give the $10. I went in a day later and spoke with whom I think is the owner/manager and told her about this predicament. She laughed in my face, was sarcastic and told me that yes there was a $100 bill in the register but the register came out perfect. She didn't ask who was serving me? She'll look into it. She was quick to make me feel like an idiot and to push me out of the place. Really, what register ever comes out perfect? And whose handing $100 bills out at Dames (other than me clearly). I left feeling completely mistreated and not heard at all but, I left just saying I'm the idiot, I need to pay more attention and oh well. Move on, it sucks but, move on. I didn't like how I was treated but, I still go cause there coffee is decent and it is next to my house. I went this morning with a friend and I handed over a $20 for my $2.75 coffee and the girl gave me $12. I learned my lesson and was paying close attention and say excuse me you didn't give me the right change. She asked me what I was talking about. Her coworker had to inform her that she forgot to give me a $5. The girl and barista were the same two people from the $100 incident. It's fruitless by now to ask about the $100 since no one is going to admit it but, clearly this is an issue. Maybe I'm just a mark? I wasn't going to Yelp this but, after today's incident I feel that this type of service is unacceptable. Please count your change when you shop here. read more
