Damien does incredible work! He really listens to what you want and then delivers. I've never had a hair stylist take his work so personally; he wouldn't dream of giving you anything but his best work. He does great cuts, but his specialty is color. Two of my girlfriends see him for their color and its so natural you would never guess it was a dye job! As for me, I like it more on the funky side and he does really fun creative color as well! (I went dark with some incredible fuchsia tips). More than that, he's not going to push products on you that you don't need, or services that he doesn't believe in. I have very fine hair that is colored and highlighted and frizzy. I don't know why there aren't hundreds and hundreds of five-star reviews for Damien. I think it must be because he's so good his clients don't want to share him with the world, but I'm just not that selfish. Damien is absolutely incredible at what he does and my hair looks AMAZING. I mean amazing. I have never, ever been happier with a 'do in my life. Damien did a color correction (which is no easy task -- I've had my hair seriously jacked up by less experienced colorists more than once) that not only solved my color problem but made me look absolutely stunning -- at least from a hair perspective. Damien was recommended to me by one of my (young, female) cousins. I usually cheap out on my haircuts (or skip them all together), but since I'm getting married I thought I'd step it up a bit (and even so, Damien was actually pretty affordable). As a man, looking for a man haircut, I was a bit put off by Damien's focus on coloring on his website. However, this concern was unwarranted. I love my haircut. I haven't had a haircut that looked this good in a long time. It is a manly haircut. When I got there, I gave him some basic guidelines and then just told him to "make me look cool." He did a great job, and I have to say that I loved that he was able to provide direction. In the past, I've felt like other stylists wanted me to tell them how I wanted each strand of hair to look, but this is really frustrating to me -- if I knew how to make hair look good, I'd do it myself! Damien took my vague guidelines and turned them into something good. A couple other notes: 1) Damien has lots of interesting stuff to talk about like running in the hills and riding his motorcycle to Alaska. 2) He gave me an espresso to drink while I got my cut. There's nothing more, that gives me anxiety than having to find a new hair stylist! After moving back to LA from Vegas, I was seriously considering flying back to Vegas to get my hair cut and colored by my normal girl...until I crossed paths with Damien! The first thing I noticed when I sat in his chair is a sign that said Board Certified Colorist. What?! I never knew that existed and my anxiety level started to go down. I showed Damien some pictures of how I wanted my hair cut and colored, and he more than delivered. I have long, dark, layered hair, and although it was just maintenance, everything looked perfect! He gained my trust and since then I've tried short bangs, grown them out, summer ombré, dyed my hair almost black, gradually lightened it again to a beautiful brown with honey highlights. Right now the color looks natural and sun kissed and the layers blend perfectly curled or straight. Damien has been my hairdresser for more than ten years. He is genuinely phenomenal at what he does. He is one of the few hairdressers in Pasadena who is actually certified to color hair, which renders him an expert. It's surprising to learn how many hairdressers color hair without the extensive training. In addition, Damien is also great at cutting and styling hair. Before I found Damien I would go to one person for color and another for cut and style. I was convinced that hair specialists had their individual expertise -- hence the salons with individuals who cut hair and those who colored. It was when I was having my hair cut, by my previous hairdresser at Amadeus Spa and Hair Salon, that I observed Damien's work. As I recall, my own hairdresser admitted that she had consulted Damien about how to use certain colors. It was awkward, but I wanted to switch over to be his client. His customers always looked amazing. Even as they entered the salon in need of touchups for a fresh cut or recolor you could tell the color faded well, and the previous cut grew out nicely. In time, I was able to switch over to Damien, and follow him to another salon. I still enjoy watching the metamorphosis of his clients when they are finished. Regardless of how they looked when they came in, these individuals leave looking meticulously polished, sophisticated, trendy, and/or elegant. Damien knows what he is doing, and caters to the individual requests of his clients. He will guide you to try new colors or cuts, and perhaps dissuade you from trying others. He can follow any cut, and will never, ever cut more than you requested. He is amazing with bangs, and for anyone who has been subjected to the haircut where too much was cut from the sides, or the bang was cut too high on the forehead--this makes all the difference.
