Located in a warehouse in a neighborhood of railroad tracks and concrete block, the Dampfwerk Distillery hits you with elegance and sophistication once you enter. It's a "Through the Looking Glass," experience. It's like imbibing in your wealthy uncle's basement bar. Known for its aperitifs, Dampfwerk requires navigation. Izzy and Wyatt were our navigators and bartenders. They were great. Everything we tasted was refined, delicious and special. Dampfwerk would be unique anywhere in the world. I had family visiting from France, we took him to this distillery in the district area by my aunt's job. She was surprised to find this bar/distillery. When you walk in, you'll see the merchandise they sell and bottles available. Past the wall is the bar and tasting room. Behind the glass you can see the barrels and distillery. Wow wow wow! This is such a stunning distillery. They have a gorgeous space that includes their bar and tables for larger groups that overlook their barrel room. The staff are always so pleasant. You really have to try their special specialty popcorn flavors that are complementary. I've had two of their flavors and they're both phenomenal! I would come back just for these popcorn flavors. However, their drinks are where it really stands out. They do rotating menus and use their own liqueurs/syrups to make a drink very unique! Must try! read more

I have no visited Dampfwerk two separate times and have recommended it to MANY people. We came across this spot on a drive back from dinner one night while on a business trip. Their story and process is very unique and intriguing. Their staff know so much about the technique involved and seem passionate about what they're creating. I knew right away that this would be a place that should be added to the itinerary for my sister's bachelorette party. I worked with their bartenders over the next few months to create a specialty drink for my sister that was a loose take on a French 75. When we arrived, they served us the drinks in little glasses and had a special batch made just for us! They also surprised us with some sparking sugar grapes to munch on with our drinks! What a fun hidden gem! You pull into an industrial park that looks super Plain Jane on the outside to discovered a polished, upscale distillers bar on the inside. Very plush, modern meets classic distillery vibes with perfectly dimmed lights. Their charcuterie board is bomb and their crafted brandy's were a nostalgic journey back to my German uncles single batch schnapps. I'd say some of their brandy is the best brandy I've had in a very very long time. Note it ranks around 44% ABV. Great service and great atmosphere. read more

Finally got around to making my inaugural stop in! I entered to a sign at the host stand reading: Please Wait To Be Seated. I could see the bar from where I waited and a few minutes I heard someone say "someone is at the door"... I continued to wait.... a few minutes later I heard it again.....and waited....but shortly after I was greeted. Didn't let it dampen my experience....it's business. I took a seat at the bar and was given a short glass of lemon cucumber water (I apologize if this is incorrect) it was delicious. There are these skinny pencil looking things on a stand, its a wonderful little lamp to assist looking over the menu! As I perused the menu another guest told bartender Wyatt to "give her that thing....the heathers" Wyatt gave me a small pour of a delicious but STRONG liqueur... They said it was 48 proof, that was all I needed to know that I wouldn't be finishing my pour. Ha. As I perused the menu and told Wyatt I tend to lean right in to an Old Fashioned, they gave me their recommendations and we discussed proofs. I opted Wyatt's original suggestion of the 45 proof The Rope....as they discussed it was made w white asparagus. We laughed as I said: I never knew white asparagus was a thing until last week I ordered asparagus at a distillery and my server didn't even give me a heads up before bringing out... white asparagus. ha. But it complimented this sipping cocktail wonderfully! It really eased the 45 proof alcohol. Just after Wyatt gave me my drink Kyleeia came behind the bar so I asked her her cocktail go-to's. She had me intrigued w the Mrs White. That one will be on-deck my next visit due to her flavor description and the fact that another guest was drinking one. I like the cocktail room..... just dark enough, comfortable padded bar stools and comfortable standard height tables. Easy parking out front and overflow parking on the street. Quiet, lowkey distillery tucked between warehouses (as is the new trend) with a dark, moody interior and a patio in the back. Overall, this is a cute spot- perfect for dates or conversations with fun, rotating cocktails. The last time i went, our drinks came with a song pairing. There are also snacks you can order and the servers are very nice, but the drinks can be pretty strong. If you like sweeter, fruity cocktails be sure to ask the server for recommendations because there are interesting combos that you don't find at other spots here, but some are definitely more of an acquired taste. read more

I had such a great experience at Dampwerk when I visited a few weeks ago. I went during a work week with my girlfriend and was able to sample some of their happy hour drinks. The first drink on the menu that I ordered was the Old Fashioned which was made with single malt whiskey, plum nectar, oregano, and orange Fennel. 10/10 The second drink I got was the Brown Derby made of barreled gin, grapefruit, and honey. -simple but delicious 10/10 Service was amazing and the woman behind the counter was super helpful and knowledgeable about the drinks. First time at this hidden gem for a few drinks. Sat at the bar in the cocktails lounge and tried a couple of their drinks. The bartender was very friendly and helpful and she nailed my request of what I was in the mood for. Their cocktails are simply called Cocktail 1 - 9 or 10. The cheese board was fun, it offered four cheeses (some are hidden by the bread slices in the image). It did look a bit underwhelming upon first glance but it was enjoyable! It was fun to mix and match the components together and find exciting combinations. The overall atmosphere is dark and moody. This was my second trip to Dampfwerk, and I didn't want to give out this designation until my second trip to make sure the first time want a fluke. This is the BEST distillery tasting room in the Cities, in my opinion. If I was only allowed one cocktail for the rest of my life, I'd probably put my trust in the team here. Parking lot at the tasting room! I've never been there when the parking lot has been full, but I assume there's nearby street parking if needed. As you enter the space, I'm taken aback by the darkness, but it's what makes the space so attractive. Metal accents and minimal, yet warm lighting give the space an industrial warmth (a feeling that I haven't seen replicated elsewhere). Plenty of table and bar seating available, but seating is done by a host. I always try to choose a seat at the bar to watch the magic happen and interact with the cocktail creators. Cocktail team is always super knowledgible, happy to provide recommendations, attentive, and welcome to questions about the many signature cocktails. As you sit down, you are welcomed with a seasonal infused water, which is such a nice touch and sets the experience from the start! I'm always in the mood for a play on an Old Fashioned, and they always have a playful, innovative spin for me to try. With two menu changes per year, there's usually something new to try! I will say that the pricetag per cocktail is highest I've seen in the area, but every dollar is worth it for the cocktail experience. I just wouldn't personally come with the expectation of having more than two drinks per person, unless you won the lottery ;) read more

Incredibly classy and chic cocktail bar in the Twin Cities! From the outside it is totally unassuming but do not let that deter you away because it is truly amazing! The drinks are incredible and all the liquor is made in house and follows a distinct German method of distillery I believe. In addition to our cocktails we ordered a cheese board which elevated our cocktail experience (and the cheeses were from nearby in Wisconsin!). The service was absolutely phenomenal as well, the bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly (specifically we had a great conversation with Sam!). The Distillery is located in an unusual industrial area but the ambiance is warm, inviting, and has an upscale warehouse like feel. The table lamps give it a quaint feel. A DJ played the night we were there and had great music. The drinks are unique with fun names but very delicious. The ingredients sound unusual but they surprisingly pair well perfectly together. This distillery is situated right next to another distillery, copper wing, make sure to check that one out to while you're over here! Now on to the best part. Our server was awesome, we told her what kind of drinks we liked and she recommended what to drink. I loved the number 3, this one tasted like a Girl Scout cookie, thin, mint, and espresso martini. Dampfwerk is a hidden gem in St Louis Park! I stumbled upon it after searching for a good happy hour spot in my area and it did not disappoint! I tried the N°1 cocktail which features barreled gin, mandarin, lemon, black pepper, pfeffersack, and yogurt. I wasn't sure what to expect considering I've never had a cocktail with yogurt before, but the server reassured me this was an excellent choice. She couldn't have been more right! It was light, creamy, and so deliciously flavorful. I didn't want it to end! The vibe inside is really captivating. It's minimalist in nature and has darker tones for decor. If you're looking for a romantic and intimate spot for cocktails, this is it. I will say, the place was relatively empty when we went, which was surprising to me (around 5pm). Loved the vibe of this distillery! It's in an industrial area so it is kind of confusing when you're looking for the place but it kind of adds to the ambiance. The inside is beautiful and very moody. For the actual cocktails, they serve up unique flavors and I personally love the negroni flight I got. I see people complain about the lack of food options but they aren't trying to be a restaurant, it is a distillery fools,  just plan around that.  We arrived during happy hour (weekday 5-6) which has cocktails $3 off. All of their cocktails have a lot of interesting ingredients in them. Got the Alpenglow (adult minty gogurt) and Lift #9 (smooth rye foamy). My wife got the Duomo (poundable, sweet, tasty) and the To the Yurt (good hot toddy). My brother got the Warren Miller (very herby) and Oh James (savory,  orange with popcorn). Everything was very different and delicious, hard to pick favorites but maybe Lift #9 and Duomo.  We then shared the brandy and herbal liqueur flights.  Our favorites were probably the rabbit in the rye (smooth tasty rye), pfefferminz (fancy minty schnapps), barreled apple brandy, and grape brandy. I loved the pfeffersack but my wife and brother hated it with a passion. Tasted a lot like stronger, smoother malort (dirt tea). Got 2 bottles of Rabbit in the Rye to go. Great experience, could only complain about the weather. Move to Chicago and I'll give you 6 stars. read more

After getting to taste one of the gins and Rabbit in the Rye, I knew I had to come here. Mom and I stopped in to the cocktail lounge during their soft open period, and boy am I glad we did. The atmosphere is elegant and understated, and the staff were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. We asked everyone questions, and they answered cheerfully. We each ordered a flight (Mom went for gin, and I went for krâutlikör), which gave us a great opportunity to get acquainted with the spirits. Next time, we're going for cocktails and looking forward to having two apiece thanks to the 50/50 list. All of the liquors offered have distinct, pure flavors--there's nothing run-of-the-mill here. Mom loved all of her gins but was especially intrigued by the barreled gin. Rabbit in the Rye, which brought me in in the first place, is one of the top 5-10 liquors that I've ever had. If you're a fan of local and family owned and have always wished that there was a cocktail lounge that fit the bill, this is it! Stop in soon; you won't regret it. They'll have three options for food platter starting tomorrow: cheese, charcuterie, and one that contains both. We shared a flight with a delicious cheese board - perfect portions, beautiful cheese and baguette and nibbles of fresh fruit & veggies. They have some kinks to work out in their Cocktail Lounge. The space is really cool, and has a cozy industrial yet upscale vibe. I was meeting a friend, so came in alone and picked a spot at a table. The bar was full, however all the tables were empty. I was brought a glass of water, and offered a menu with a brief overview. I was not informed of how to order. Once my friend arrived, we decided to try ordering from the bar. Suppper difficult and awkward. As I mentioned the bar seating was full, and there is no server station or barstool-free area to order drinks from. We stood near the opening to the bar since there was nowhere else to stand. Staff buzzed by us to the back room without acknowledging us. We eventually got someone's attention, ordered, and were brought our drinks. This was a wonderful surprise to come across in an area of St Louis Park just very near Methodist Hospital. Many distilleries are closed to the public since COVID began and to find this one, was a treasure find. The aesthetic is beautiful, the service amazing, and the cocktails impeccably made. This is a much more desired experience then having a cocktail at a massive overcrowded bar. I would highly recommend visiting them and making a reservation online! It contributes to locally sourced and family owned businesses too. The take your temperature at the door; there are two industrial air purifiers, and plexiglass that separates you from the bartender and staff behind the counter. read more

Great atmosphere. Happy hour. Great prices on a handful of cocktails. Sadly the only food item -spiced nuts-arrived at our table and it was so small I could barely see it. For $3 you would think they could put a few more nuts in the bowl-considering it was only peanuts (we expected something a bit nicer than ordinary peanuts). I guess we were disappointed that the only food item other than the cheese plate for happy hour was an over priced miniature bowl of spiced peanuts.
