I had a lovely little visit to the John brown store. I tried some of the food. I will not there is nowhere to sit inside so you have to get the food to go and eat it at home. Tenderloin sandwich is really good. But the show stopper is their BBQ! Had to go back and buy a pound of it. $11.99/lb is not bad Easily one of the better BBQ I've had period! Nice little store, right off the road, easy parking. Staff is very sweet as well A must see in this area! read more

John Brown's is exactly what you'd picture when thinking of an old country store. It has all of the small town, country feels. They sell local goods, from meats and veggies, honeys, jams, jellies, candies, cheeses, chicken pies, slaw, chicken salad and potato. John Brown's also offers sandwiches, burgers, wings and pizza. They also have a daily specials hot bar where you can grab a plate to go, a meat and two veggies. My husband loves the meatloaf. And they have great salads! I wish their veggies were vegetarian friendly, but this is the south and pork or fatback in greens, green beans & cabbage are pretty much a staple. The chicken stew in the colder months is on point! The staff is friendly and there's many regulars, it seems they know everyone who walks through the door. I like that you can see them preparing your food and of course I look for the grade- 98.5!! We stopped here hoping to get lunch but since there's no indoor seating we decided to go somewhere else. However, they offered a hot bar with amazing looking meat loaf and many other food options. I would have loved to given it a try, but we were not interested in takeout. I would love to go back and be able to have time to really explore the store. They offer a large array of more unique jams, jellies, candies and other packaged seasonings with their own brand. In addition they offer country ham and a wide variety of veggies. We keep coming back because the made to order food is really good and the folks are really kind and friendly. Also, we're slowly working our way down their burger/sammich menu trying one thing at a time. Everything has been delicious. So far we've tried: the Big John Burger, the Cheeseburger, the Pork Tenderloin, the Pork Chop, the Double Cheese Burger, and for the kiddo the Loaded Bun (for some reason, this was a huge hit). All the items are made to order with various toppings. Husband's go-to is the burger (any kind), and mine is definitely the Pork Chop sammich - fried crispy and the meat is so tender. Now let's talk sides - you can get fries (which are crinkle cut, and let's be honest, the best fry shape), but I think we can all agree that the best fried potato delivery method for your mouth is the tater tot. So definitely get some tater tots with your meal. Also ask for some ranch (or ketchup if you prefer), but their ranch is homemade, and it's reaalllly yummy. They also run a daily special which is posted out on their facebook page. It's like a home cooked take-out meal where you get to pick out a meat and veg for a set price. It looks amazing and really fresh. We haven't tried it yet because we're working our way through the sammich menu, but one day, don't worry, it's on our list. P.S. For some reason, they also have salads, so don't worry, for all you healthy folks, there really is something for you too. I recommend checking out their site before heading over there so you have a preview of their menu so you have a good idea of what you want and the toppings that go on your order. Always shopped there & love country setting. I buy lot beans pinto & white. Did away with white beans. The worker could work on their attitude, just being friendly speaking to customers. They act like they mad at world especially the girl at register. It has always been bad but last 2 times worse. We spend around $100.00 week & everyone deserves a smile & a hello. Love their food, I'm a big fan of the 66 Sizzler! They're chicken stew is also well known in the area and is a must have on cold winter days. The staff is super friendly even when they're slammed busy. If you show up during peak lunch or dinner hours expect to wait 15 minutes or so to get your food. Waiting is just the price you pay for delicious meals. The remodel that was done a few years back completely changed the feel of the place. The goal of making it feel like an ol' time country store was spot on. If you're looking for some past time favorite candies this is the place to. Fill a bag with whatever your heart desires. In addition to good food and sweet treats they have a decent selection of beverages in "the beer cave" and home made items like pimento cheese and BBQ. If you're on your way to or from Hanging Rock State Park this is a must go destination. read more

We go to John's all the time. Good food. Great people. It is almost always crowded. It is a local favorite and being a local, of sorts, we make it a point to shop here. I will say this...another reviewer said "hot dogs are good, but not Dairio good" - well if Dairio is your standard of quality - it is best that you avoid John's. We won't miss you! All kidding aside - John's is a great asset to the community. And if you think John's is a "redneck grill", then just get back into your Volvo and head on down the road, buddy. Headed down 66? This the best restaurant you'll find the whole way whether you're coming up from K-Vegas or down from 89. Burgers are what burgers should be - big and sloppy. Hot dogs (all the way, Carolina style) are as good as you'll ever have. Pork Chop sandwich is absolutely delicious. Fries are excellent. Wings are even better. Service is what you would expect at such a distinctly "local" joint. Friendly and homey, very obviously family-owned and operated. We've had their pork chop sandwiches, grill chicken salad (dressing is awesome), Hunt's brother pizzas (come already dressed in sauce and cheese but you can add toppings as they are FREE!) Banana pudding, thick shakes, nice people, good food. Huge burgers and orders of fries/ onion rings. Great price on fresh bags of potatoes, great homemade pimento cheese and chicken salad, jars of honey, bar b q sauce, onions, etc. Sales ice, candy, beer, milk, and I think, cigarettes, plus many other items and foods. Man who takes my order has always been sweet and my order had never been wrong. Fast, friendly service, clean store, I do tell people about it and that they should try it out. Word of mouth is best.
