John Brown's is exactly what you'd picture when thinking of an old country store. It has all of the small town, country feels. They sell local goods, from meats and veggies, honeys, jams, jellies, candies, cheeses, chicken pies, slaw, chicken salad and potato. John Brown's also offers sandwiches, burgers, wings and pizza. They also have a daily specials hot bar where you can grab a plate to go, a meat and two veggies. My husband loves the meatloaf. And they have great salads! I wish their veggies were vegetarian friendly, but this is the south and pork or fatback in greens, green beans & cabbage are pretty much a staple. The chicken stew in the colder months is on point! The staff is friendly and there's many regulars, it seems they know everyone who walks through the door. I like that you can see them preparing your food and of course I look for the grade- 98.5!! Love coming here when I don't feel like cooking. No inside tables, just order and go.

    Garden salad

Not a $6.00 salad at all doesn't even fill up the box. Only way to get a decent salad is to order one with meat. Actually asked for a really big salad when making the call in order.

Food was ok. I had the burger, nothing special. My wife had soup with a hair in it. Never been back. It's more of a red neck grocery store.

The tea is the worst I've ever had, tastes like they were making lemonade and added a single tea leaf to it during steeping. Fries are obviously frozen from Sam's or Costco. This place hadn't gotten a lot of reviews but it was worth the five stars I'm giving it. The place had lots of parking and we could see when we walked up it was crowded, then we heard the live Blue Grass music playing which made my wife very happy. We came in and were greeted and told to order from the counter and they would bring out the food. I ordered the Reuben which if on the menu is how I judge the food overall. This Rueben was the second best I have gotten in NC and close to first. Perfectly made as traditional styled Rueben it went well with the local beer I ordered there. The music was a good touch and pretty good, we were told they have music regularly and also trivia and bingo. I recommended it for the food, service and entertainment.

The food quality was particularly disappointing. The Cajun shrimp Alfredo was excessively heavy and resulted in immediate discomfort, lacking the balance and flavor one would expect from such a dish. The addition of bacon to the dish was a clear misstep, overwhelming the other flavors and contributing to an already overly rich and unbalanced meal. The croissants were equally unsatisfactory--dense, chewy, and overbaked, with a texture and taste suggesting they had not risen properly. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal was the side salad, which, while fresh, should not have been the most enjoyable component of the dining experience. Overall, I left feeling quite disappointed. Given that both of my visits have resulted in similarly negative experiences, I find it difficult to justify returning.

The food tasted great, although most of the food on the buffet was cold. The issue is the service! You have to seat yourself and despite it being a breakfast buffet, you have to wait for a server to serve you. That took forever--only come when you're not in a rush and have at least 1.5 hours. It wasn't crowded; there were empty tables the entire time I was there. At the buffet, you can't serve yourself. So finally when the server came to take our drink order and buffet details (you can do made-to-order omelets, eggs, pancakes as part of the buffet), you have to stand at the small buffet and wait for a server to put the food you ask for on a plate. This took a ridiculous amount of time. They had plenty of employees, but instead of taking our order or serving the buffet, they were filling ketchup bottles, talking, or doing other tasks that had nothing to do with serving the customers standing there waiting. There was a man walking around (appeared to be the owner, as he would occasionally instruct his staff) who was drinking a sweet tea. He rounded the corner to the buffet and I thought that he would finally help us. No, he was just refilling his sweet tea behind the counter. The kitchen knew what they were doing, but the wait staff is just plain awful. They were friendly, but inept. If they train their employees better, I will be back. For now, I won't return.

It was a bit busy so we expected a slight delay on drinks/food, but our server kept checking on us every few minutes and kept our drinks full. The atmosphere/design is very unique and offers great talking points for the table. You can look around and always find something new you haven't seen before. For food, I got the French dip, my husband got the fried catfish, and mom got the smash burger. Food was EXCELLENT. The au jus from the French dip was not overly salty as I've had in the past, and it was the perfect amount for the sandwich. Not like other places that will either give you a big tub of au jus or ever a small saucer cup. After lunch, we walked around as they have a shopping area inside with soaps, handmade pottery/kitchenware, and local vendor products such as hatch chile cream cheese and pickled vegetables. Price was very favorable too and didn't seem to be overly priced where the business/vendor up charges significantly to make a huge profit. Definitely worth stopping by even if you only have time for Togo coffee, a snack, of just to shop around!
