A friend asked to go to dinner here, and so I went. I'd never heard of P B Clark's before, and I had no idea what to expect. As it turns out, P B Clark's is a restaurant the likes of which you'll see in or near most small towns. Meat and 2 sides, lots of fish, somewhat worn interior, not super clean, wait staff who are regular people. I've seen it plenty of times and I generally like these places because they are predictable and serve good basic food. P B Clark's is no different. The girl who waited on us is young and has a sunny personality. Super nice and always available. We were also topped off by another nice girl, possibly another waitress or a food runner. I ordered the Friday special catfish with fries and hush puppies. I'm giving this review a 4-star because of the staff and the fish. Otherwise, it would be a three star. The catfish had a ton of flavor and needed nothing for a frozen, breaded, deep fried catfish filet. The hushpuppies were bland, the fries were slightly undercooked and needed salt. P.B. Clark's is where I completed my #nccountyhotdogcrawl (getting a hot dog in each of North Carolina's 100 counties). I was thankful that a group of 12 friends was able to join me. I had called ahead and asked when a good time on Saturday to arrive for a group our size. They shared that breakfast was the busiest time but if we arrived after 11:30 we shouldn't have any problem. These folks know their business, they were spot on! We pulled a few tables together. Our server was extraordinarily patient as our group trickled in arriving in King from Winston-Salem. I think she was very much surprised when 10 out of the 12 us ordered hot dog plates. We started with an order of buffalo chips and they were very much enjoyed along with the ranch they were served with. I think we all enjoyed our hot dogs (mine with chili, mustard, and onions, was great). My husband and I visited PB Clark's for breakfast twice when we were in the area visiting our grandparents. Like other reviews say, PB Clark's is an old fashioned diner and like walking back in time. The servers greeted our grandparents by name, and we saw them do the same with others. This is a no-frills, locals spot and draws a country, mountain, crowd. Everyone knows everyone, and I'm glad we were with our grandparents who are locals. Otherwise, we stuck out as being "from off". I tried the two egg breakfast with cheesy grits and a biscuit. The eggs were cooked correctly, and the biscuits are large and fluffy. The grits were too runny for me and I would not order them again. For a breakfast side, order the hash browns. Everything is reasonably priced and was great fuel for hiking at Hanging Rock State Park. read more

This is a good Home Cooked place to fill your appetite when you are hungry. I have frequented this restaurant many times and will go back often. The wait staff is spot on and will get your order taken and have you eating in no time at all. Come hungry because they have have specials every day. Discounts to Veterans too. This is one of those small-town style spots that you can picture yourself in when you're old and grey and looking for an unrushed meal across from someone you love. I know that makes it sound like only old people eat here, and that's just not true, but it does have the homey coziness of a small-town diner that opens super early for the blue-collar boys and retirees looking for company. The food was classically good and unceremonious. It's one of those places where you can go to get a meal you will be happy with. You're not going to be wowed by some culinary masterpiece but you certainly won't be disappointed by whatever menu items you select. It's consistent and reliable food. The staff is unrushed but attentive. They'll make sure your cup is full, you've got what you need, and you're happy with your meal. I've been here many times over the years when I'm over in their part of town and I've always enjoyed the visit. Called and requested catering for large group of 40, 2 days before event. PB Clarks provided a great meal with plenty extra. We have eaten there many times as a group, but this is the first time we've asked them to cater. Will most definitely call on them again. Me and my friend came here several times last week. I was visiting from Ohio. He comes here alot. The food was awesome. We are returning again once I come back to King NC. The service was awful just because I went with a couple friends of mine who were of a different color than me. The food was also awful because the food was under cooked and the portion size of the sides were very small compared to others in the restaurant. Also the whole time that we were there everyone else that was in the restaurant was staring at us making us feel very uncomfortable. We will never ever be eating here again. read more

Dropped in for a late lunch one afternoon. Nice place, older clientele, at least on the day we went. The food was good-Philly sub for me, hamburger with onion rings for my wife. Sweet tea was really good, tasted like tea and not sugar water. Good service as well. We'll be back to try them again. read more

This is THE WORST "restaurant" I have ever been to and I've been to this place at least five times. Why do I return you ask? Well my co-workers unfortunately have no taste and they decide (democratically)on certain days to go up there because they say it's cheap but I beg to differ. I spend $10 on bad food and tip EVERYTIME!! I will not go anymore. Breaking bread with friends be damned I'll brown bag it or go to the Kangaroo gas station and get a Coke And Nab. The service is decent but it seems sometimes even they'd rather be somewhere else Everything on the menu is badly fried, extremely bland or just plain bad Even the salads are bad. Somehow all the dressings taste the same (bad) and are mayonnaise based. (Barf). Next time you feel like going don't. Yikes. read more

As far as atmosphere is concerned, there is a lot of potential here. Though somewhat cute and quaint in appearance, some added details to both the interior and exterior would make it positively charming. The staff is adequately friendly and attentive. The local color also added some droll entertainment-- there is nothing like sitting adjacent to local law enforcement and watching local folk approach them seeking legal advice --everything from truck inspections to restraining orders. I'm not making this up. The food was modestly priced and generally good with one unfortunate exception. The coffee, eggs, sausage, grits, and bologna were fine--decent portions, cooked to order, and tasted good. The home fries were just average. The worst part of the meal were the biscuits. I don't like to be overly negative, but this was the worst biscuit I've ever eaten. Actually, I couldn't even eat it. It was overcooked and rubbery (microwaved?) and did not taste good. Ok, so the wife and I were in the area of hanging rock state park, and decided on this place for breakfast. She had a huge piece of country ham, 2 eggs, a homemade biscuit, and grits, and extra side of 3 bacon slices with a diet coke. Mine was 2 eggs, 3 slices of bacon, 2 sausage patties, a biscuit and hash browns. All for $20! And the waitress was very attentive! Awesome! If you're in the area, gotta try it! read more

LOVED IT!!!!!!! Everything was delicious and homemade! The banana pudding is a must; reminded me of my mom's and brought a tear to my eye :-) Everyone who works there is extremely nice, friendly and efficient. We were especially appreciative of our waitresses Rosa and Chelsea who are just wonderful and Rico who does the most amazing job of cleaning tables I have ever seen! I went when they 1st opened and ordered a western omelette. I was 2 bites in when I got a slimy, uncooked bite and gagged as it slid down my throat. I immediately got sick and started throwing up in the restaurant. I cleaned up and came back to the table and "flipped" the omelette open and it was not cooked a bit inside. It looked like snot and peppers. Only a thin lining was cooked around the omelette, so I don't even know how they slid of off the pan onto the plate. I have never, ever been able to eat eggs after that and this is even making me sick as I write and recall it. I can't look at eggs, feel them, or smell them without becoming sick now. I will not try anything else from this place, ever, and always recommend somewhere better that will not try to poison you. The memory still haunts me and I believe it will forever and it had ruined eggs for me for life. read more

Their menu is outdated and several things I tried to order I was told they no longer served. When I found something they actually served, The food was under cooked. The cup I was given had mold on the side of it. If your looking for a small town restaurant with a good atmosphere and friendly staff I would recommend King's Kitchen down the road. read more
