Large rooms with fun colors throughout, that are very welcoming and exciting for kids (of all ages) as well as adults. I signed my 2.5 and 4 yr olds up for dance camp (M-F, 8am-12pm) and they/we felt safe and comfortable from day one. The camp included breakfast, snacks, and a schedule of fun activities, with a mini performance for the parents on the last day. The staff members and owner, Nancy, were consistently warm, kind and enthusiastic-- which is one of the first things I pay attention to when it comes to anyone watching my littles. Nancy was easy to talk to and open, answering all of my questions and concerns. She's flexible and does her best to ensure that a partnership is established between herself and the parents, ultimately for kids. I greatly appreciated that. This is now the only studio my girls want to attend; they had so much fun! So if you need to find a place with great teachers, and friendly support to get you moving again I know you would be welcomed there.

She loved her class last year when her instructor was Nicole, but this year she got Maggie. I've watched the class as Maggie pays zero attention to my daughter and instead focuses on the other girls who are doing really well. She didn't help my daughter as she struggled to learn the dance, she would just yell at her in front of the other girls and simply tell her to keep up. Last night, My daughter got frustrated during class tonight because she felt like she wasn't keeping up with the rest of the girls, so she cried and looked very defeated when I picked her up. After class, Maggie asked to speak with me privately in which she made it very clear that she doesn't want my daughter to return to her class. She said that the other girls are having fun and working hard while my daughter is always crying. She said she only wants dancers who will have fun and work hard. I'd also like to note that I've watched Maggie's interactions with my daughter while in class and she visibly ignores her and doesn't engage with her like she does the other girls. We had a great season last year when Eliana was in Nicole's jazz class, but unfortunately this year has been very disappointing. I'm incredibly upset with Maggie and her comments to me tonight, so we don't plan on returning. I would feel too uncomfortable sending my daughter back after we were indirectly told it'd be best for the class if she doesn't return. Unfortunately, I've already paid for the recital, the costume, and the tuition for March, so I guess I'll have to eat those costs.

We continue to choose Arts Avenue because we know the teachers genuinely care about our girls and provide a loving and encouraging environment for them to learn and grow in dance. This year we have classes with Ms. Kate and Ms. Alex. Ms. Kate is highly qualified with a B.F.A. degree in dance and choreography with many years of professional experience in those areas. She is always kind and patient, but encourages setting goals and challenging her students to grow in their skills. Besides directing the company team (which has been winning lots of competition awards), Kate has choreographed beautiful ballets for the Arts Avenue team performances the past two years. Ms. Alex is currently pursing a degree at Southwestern University with a minor in dance where she is also the Pom Squad Captain. Ms. Alex loves many genres of dance from ballet to hip hop and makes her classes really fun. She is always kind and fun but is also very organized with lesson plans and goals to encourage her students to grow in skills. This year she even organized a fun Pom Camp for the kids with Southwestern University and they were able to perform for the university basketball game. Those details--rehearsal schedules, dates, and location--were never communicated. When we asked for clarification, we were told the studio was still working through the details, which is unacceptable given that families had already paid. To make matters worse, the studio attempted to attribute the confusion to my child rather than taking accountability for their lack of communication. It also became clear that the studio prioritizes its competition team, while other students receive significantly less organization and preparation--despite paying for recital participation and costumes. We expected a much higher level of professionalism and transparency.
