This is a very long overdue review for Musubi Libre. I've been a fan of this business from the beginning. The musubi here are seriously amazing. The quality honestly reminds me of the kind of musubi you'd get in Hawaii, similar to places like Iyasume. Ever since trying musubi in Hawaii years ago, I've been hooked, and Musubi Libre is one of the very few places here that really gives me that same feeling/experience I've had. While the musubi are absolutely amazing, and it is their namesake, the Mrs. And I really like the onigiri! It's surprisingly hard to find truly good onigiri here in the US that lives up to the quality of the ones you'd get in Japan. Leonard, the owner clearly puts a ton of effort into each. He's definitely perfected his craft. The Mrs. and I have ordered from here casually many times before on our days off. We've tried the tuna, mentaiko, and ume. Mentaiko is my personal fave. The tuna is excellent too, and the ume has a classic salty-tangy flavor that's unique and refreshing. It's a great option for vegetarians as well. Recently, we ordered from Leonard to have onigiri catered for our daughter's birthday party. We got those 3 flavors. Originally, we just wanted something unique for the adults alongside the chicken nuggets and pizza we got for the kids. Man, we are so glad we did. The onigiri was a massive hit! People absolutely loved it, including guests who weren't necessarily huge into Japanese food or culture. They disappeared FAST! Like so fast I didn't get to eat one myself! This place is seriously a hidden gem in the East Bay. Definitely stop by, try the musubi and onigiri, and say hi to Leonard, who is genuinely one of the nicest people/owners you'll meet. read more

I'm so excited for the brick and mortar store to open! I ordered online some spam and vegan Omnipork musubis and a Spanish latte, and although the owner had just driven back from Monterey, he went ahead and got it ready for me. I think I came on the off day since he was busy and out of a few things, but I appreciated his kindness and great customer service because he gave us a few more musubis as well. My sister said the Omnipork was just a tad bit dry, but I really enjoyed mine. The shrimp was perfectly fried and flavorful and tasted great with the spam. The latte was also delicious and creamy. There was a decent sized parking lot in the back as well. read more

Happened upon this spot and rang the doorbell to see what they offered. We tried the spam musubi and Portuguese sausage musubi and the mini Portuguese sausage bowl. Everything was made fresh to order, the sauce on the spam musubi was delicious and it was a good ratio of spam to rice. He was super friendly, very quick, and a super patient as I was figure out what to order. Based on this experience I will explore catering options for the future. Highly recommend you try! I arrived and went to the glass door. You'll know you're in the right place as you'll see the signs. I picked up a Chicago Dog, a 3 pack of Bacon, Avocado, Teriyaki SPAM Musubi, and an Oat Coconut Spanish Latte from Musubi Libre. Everything was ready right on time and Leonard was super professional and friendly. The Chicago Dog is hands down my favorite--loaded with flavor and done right. The bacon + avocado spam musubi was really delicious. The Spanish Latte was smooth and not too sweet, which I loved. Overall, great food and service. What a great find! Reached out to Leonard, the owner, after finding them on Instagram due to my musubi cravings... Note that this is a small commericial kitchen with a delivery only option. Ordered online for next day delivery for a reasonable price and was quite pleased to find my order of 14 assorted pieces supplemented by an extra piece and little cookie treats! Arrived within the 2 hour window complying with my specific delivery instructions. Nice! Loved trying the Spam variations as well as the hot dog and sausage ones but my fave was the Spam with Daikon... perfect crunch and savory fare together! All fresh and nicely packaged but admittedly surprised that the pieces were on the smaller side. Highly recommended for fresh Musubi with an owner/delivery guy putting it in for customer service and Musubi smiles! read more

Impeccable service, excellent quality, and great prices. There is finally a delicious musubi place near me, with a large variety at that! I ordered the 36 musubi tray and got the Spam and Japanese egg- the sweetness of the egg definitely offset the saltiness of the spam and created the perfect mesh of flavors on top of rice. Spam and Kimchi - the crunchiness of the kimchi and acidity worked perfectly well with the spam. It tasted like a delicious rice bowl, except there isn't a bowl, and in a nice handheld form. I highly recommend ordering the trays for parties or even grabbing a few for a nice picnic! read more

I preordered 24 musubis for a small family celebration and although preorders were initially closed, I reached out anyway and the owner, Leonard, accommodated my order. At our agreed pickup time our order was ready and Leonard even threw in an extra 6 musubis to thank me for trying his business. In turn, I wanted to tip him for the service and he declined, saying that he knows tipping culture is out of control. (I still tipped him anyway!) The musubis were hot and fresh, and well enjoyed by our family. I ordered the regular spam musubis and I plan to try the rest of the menu soon. I know these will be a huge hit at parties. read more

So glad I found this place and will be ordering again and again. This makes for a perfect snack or gift. Note: this is NOT a store and ordering was a bit confusing. I tried ordering on their website but upon checking out, received a "temporarily unavailable" message. I ended up messaging them on Instagram and was told I could order there. There was some miscommunication on the delivery date but Leonard was super nice about it and even gave me 4 free musubis! The musubis came fresh and beautifully packaged. Awesome musubi! Got the mystery box and was not disappointed by my options. Great assortment of premium and regular musubis, very worth the $20. I called the owner after I picked up my order (i am allergic to cheese and received a double cheese musubi in my box) he came out and replaced it with 2 more! Ordered countless times with Musubi Libre but my before I can even take a photo, I start to savor it and forget the rest. They make really good musubis but even better Filipino food. I think at this point I've had one of everything and they are all so good - the stragglers we couldn't finish when they were fresh even reheated well my favorite is probably the spam with radish. Decided to try this spot for lunch today with a coworker. I tried the tuna and teriyaki musubi and the lumpia. I also had a bite of the teriyaki and cheese musubi. My coworker got the teriyaki and cheese and the spam and egg musubi. All of the food was great and when my order was ready I received a text to coordinate pick up. What a treat. Leonard, you rock! After coming back from Hawai'i visiting family, I wanted more musubis. Placed a last minute order with Leonard for a quick trip to Don Castro Swimming Lagoon. It was perfeeeccct. They were all delicious. I love our Hawaiian red hotdogs. The rice to meat ratio was great. You aint stuffed with rice. It's not dripping with teriyaki sauce, I don't like soggy rice. (plus your musubi will fall apart). The packaging was great and Leonard added a nice note. My friends and my little family was very happy (and not hangry) for our day at the beach. Thanks Leonard and team! Oh and I enjoyed the musubi with the radish (daikon?). Great Spam Musubi is hard to come by in the East Bay. I'm so glad we found one that comes close to our favorite Musubi Cafe Iyasume in Hawaii. This small business cares about their product. They found out later on that there was a quality issue with the days order and they made sure to make it right to their customers. They personally messaged me and told me they had to make it right. I got the surprise box and it came in a cute little box with the musubis packed neatly inside with a black thunder chocolate bar and kimchi mayo sauce. The musubis I scored were; 2 regular (teriyaki?) ones, 1 pickled radish, 1 hotdog, 1 bacon egg spam musubi. These were some of the best, neatly built, unique Musubis I've had and we ordered this near closing time too. They were all very tasty with the kimchi mayo sauce that came with it. -The bacon egg spam one was nicely textured and yummy. -I don't usually prefer pickled radish when I get Korean, but it actually pairs extremely well with spam musubi and the sauce. -The 2 smaller teriyaki musubis were solid. -The hotdog musubi looked interesting but it seemed very basic. I really enjoyed the whole package; I shared 2 musubis with someone but I could've finished the whole box. Even my doggo abandoned his favorite chew and came up to me to sniff my food. Spamusubi delivered hot and fresh to your doorstep...yes please! Was thrilled to discover this spot and have enjoyed musubi orders on several occasions. Sometimes just for a snack or for a family gathering! Delivery and order placement was easy and the owner is super communicative, friendly and personable. The musubi itself is delicious- it's packed well for travel or transport and the rice is perfect (this is hard to do) but it's the right texture, consistency, flavor and compliments the spam so well. We've even saved some for the next day and they were still good! Definitely will be ordering again from this family owned and operated business in the future! read more

I'm officially hooked. First, the musubi are fantastic and are my new go to snack for all work events parties. People absolutely love them. They're clean, well packaged, surprisingly light yet filling, and the best packable snack for any outdoor activity. Second, the coffee. THE COFFEE! Holy cow it's fantastic. Brought me right back to the islands! I've been following Musubi Libre on IG for a while now and decided I would surprise my husband with some Musubi for Fathers Day breakfast! I ordered the sample pack where there's one of each flavor as well as the cafe con leche. You can definitely tell that they use high quality ingredients in their products. The sausage with egg was my personal fave. The rice was seasoned well, the sausage wasn't overly salty and everything was wrapped perfectly. My husband loved it and our toddler ate a whole one to herself so it's definitely a winner in this family! Can't wait to finish our leftovers for breakfast tomorrow! read more

There's tons amazing and wonderful things to say about musubi libre. They have lots of variety, but you don't feel overwhelmed. I had a small party and ordered 15 musubi's, and they were the first things that were eaten. The rice to meat ratio is absolutely perfect, which I think is such a rarity. The seasoned rice is so delicious! Communication was absolutely fantastic and they were so accommodating. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a quick snack or wants to cater a party. read more

So cute! -The meat- to - rice ratio is fantastic. The rice itself is seasoned which were blown away. -Oh! And dunking it in their homemade spicy mayo, explosion of flavors in my mouth. LOL!!! I got my order delivered to our picnic location and they were very timely :) DELICIOUS musubis, better than many of the ones I've even had in Hawaii! Rice is well seasoned and the meat/topping variety is great. I've never dipped my musubi in sauce before but their sauce was a great touch also!! The drinks were pretty good as well and delivered without any spills. I also had to change my order last minute and they were quick to accommodate (super appreciated this). I found Musubi Libre on Instagram and had to order! We got the Framily pack and a Spanish Latte and we almost forgot to take a picture because we couldn't wait to dig in! Every Musubi was delicious. Our faves were the Portuguese sausage ones, but the vegan one is a very close second place! The vegan one tastes very similar to spam but not as salty. I can literally bathe in the kimchi sauce...it was delicious! Lol Delivery was easy and very much on time! I live in a confusing complex, and I forgot to put directions in my notes during the order, but even with a little confusion, I received the order at the very beginning of my pick-up time window.
