I heard so many good things about this place.....finally got the opportunity to come down and find out. I was so excited to finally get through the door. The parking lot next to the building only accommodates a few cars, but the train station offers additional parking only a few extra feet away. I had high expectations, especially after seeing this place on DD&D. I waited about an hour for an appetizer and a burger. There were soooo many catering orders, the kitchen couldn't keep up with the regular orders. I watched as person after person was offered the "I'm sorry". The floor was not even busy . I really do enjoy leaving positive reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, after eating the utterly substandard food at Dang! In Islip...I cannot in good conscience do so. The service was fast and friendly, the price is not bad at all. The food on the other hand... Well... The fried pickle chips were chewy and flavorless... The Cole slaw was not good. My ribs were good enough...but that's all. My wife's pulled chicken was dry and chewy and swimming in sauce. Obviously not fresh. The French fries were an insult. Wet and soggy. This could really be a good place if the owner took a long hard look into the kitchen, then sampled everything personally. The food he sells should meet his standards. If they don't... My husband and I went there for a late lunch. We wanted to split a sandwich, get some sides to possibly leave room for desert. Then the waitress said they would charge use $5 extra for us to share the $9 sandwhich. She said it was so she didn't miss out on a good tip. Well we always tip very well! So instead we took our food to go and didn't get desert and she got no tip. Then we checked our bag and they didn't give me any dressing for my very tiny salad and no side chips for our sandwich. I really hoped this was going to be a 5 Star review. After seeing the piece on News12 I couldn't wait to come down and try EVERYTHING!!! I came in on a Saturday about 7:30-8, we were a group of 3. We were greeted (shouted hello at) by the manager? I can only assume she was some type of management because she was the only one of the staff not donning a "DANG BBQ" t-shirt. It wasn't until about 15 minutes later that we were finally approached by a server who apologized they were overwhelmed. He said he would clean off the bar and we can sit there if we'd like. It was chilly by the door but we sat because we were eager to order and try some bbq! Our waitress (Alicia) was great, from the get go she was very attentive even though they were clearly in over their heads. She answered the few question we had about the menu politely and got our drinks quickly. I ordered the "Boss Hog" my friends ordered the "Classic All American" Mac and cheese and the "BBQ chicken" Mac and cheese. About 30 minutes later our food arrived. I have to say my burger was cooked perfectly and was very tasty the only gripe I have is that I wish the bacon was crispy and warm. The American Mac and cheese was great. The bbq chicken...not so much. Came served in a skillet...you would assume it would be nice and bubbly hot with a nice crust . Not the case. We were actually able to pick the skillet up bare handed It wasn't even warm!!!! We sent it back and asked for it to be taken off the bill, we didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for a new one. She was great and took it back with no issues. The owner came out and apologized, he was great and explained it was just a busy night and that it's no excuse and he can have another one out ASAP. We declined but thanked him for coming out. Let's talk about management for a moment...the woman who appeared to be the manager looked totally frazzled and lost. Visited this past Monday night for dinner. Was iffy about this place when I first read reviews but decided to go check it out myself with my family. My mother, who hates bbq, was extremely happy with her meal the Mac n cheese topped with chili, and the grilled wings were out of this world, a must try if you go. Our server was excellent. She was attentive, patient, very happy and very knowledgeable of the menu. The only thing I can say that was a slight disappointment was the super milkshake at the end. The taste was great except for the cereal that was in it and around the glass was stale. Other than that excellent place we will definitely be back! read more

Ordered 2 orders of pulled pork and after one bite realized it tasted very odd/off so I had my husband try it and he agreed. My son ordered the pork as well along w brisket. He spit out his first bite of the pulled pork. I notified the waitress and she didn't even blink an eye. She said okay would you like something else to eat. I very politely told her that I was turned off by being served bad tasting meat, and politely declined anything else. The check came and they only took off a few dollars for each meat, so essentially they charged my son and I both for our sides that came w the pork, but took off $6 from my dinner and my sons. The owner never came to the table to apologize for serving spoiled food. I told the waitress something was definitely wrong with that pulled pork and she said oh yes there was I told the owner and he smelled it and dumped it. He never came to our table to apologize. Then he had the audacity to only take $12 off of the bill. I had one meat choice which came w two sides, and the only meat I ordered was bad! My son had the brisket and the pork, which was the bad meat. They charged us for everything on our trays except the bad pulled pork. I feel this was such a turn off and they didnt seem fazed in the least. Almost as though this happens often. Please save yourself from getting food poisoning and do not go to Dang Bbq. The food can be really good here if you're looking for something on the heavier side. The drinks are great, I like the not your moms strawberry rhubarb beverage. Depends on when you go though . Last couple times I was there the wait was very long . Last time the table was dirty and we had to ask for condiments several times . The staff was very pleasant. So it's been about a year since I've been here and they have really gotten so much better. Called in my order, they said 15 minutes and when I got there it was actually ready on time. The pulled pork sandwich was so good. Perfect amount of bbq sauce and the pork was very tasty. The mac and cheese was so creamy and delicious and the french fries were perfectly crispy although they had a little to much salt. New comer to Islip has some wrinkles to iron out before I decide to come back. They serve up barbecue including pulled pork and chicken, brisket, burgers, dogs, sandwiches and milk shakes. Ordered the chopped brisket which came dry (which I don't like) but they had plenty of sauces on the table. The brisket was quite dry and chewy. The baked beans on the side were decent but the waffle fries were served stone cold and inedible. Pulled pork was decent, void of sauce but the meat was good. Service is at the counter, you take a number and they bring it to you. However, it was packed and took a while for our food to come out just for them to bring me the wrong order. Prices are pretty cheap though. Would like to come back and try one of their sandwiches because they sound tasty. Not my favorite by far but I've had worse. I'll wait a while before coming back for them to workout the new business jitters. read more

Went here for an early dinner on Saturday night. It was busy. The staff was very friendly an extremely efficient. My husband had the cowboy burger, he thought it was outstanding. Stopped in one Saturday night after a ballet recital with my 14 year old daughter and her friends who wanted a place for wings. We got so much more. The burnt ends appetizer was the only thing that actually came out to be good and we ordered fried wings and got grilled even though they said that's their fried. Went here in 03/31/19 with my wife and kids. Overall it's a solid 4. The food was very good and nice portion size. The brisket was one of the best I've had the only downside was that the menu was very limited but maybe because it was around lunch time. The menu posted online seemed like a lot more choices but the menu in person was different. Not to many choices as far as platters go and most of the menu consisted of skillet type meals. I saw this place on one of the Food Network shows so In thought I'd drive the family out to Islip N.Y. and give it a try. The good news, my wife's BBQ chicken tacos were very good.The pickle chips were nice and crunchy with good flavor and their milkshakes are good.The bad news.I BBQ at home an have had some great BBQ in North Carolina, Texas and Alabama. So as a rule you learn dry meat is OK so long as it's Smokey and tender. You can always add moisture with sauces.Juicy and Smokey are also good so long as not greasy. As a purest I ordered the standard test of good BBQ by ordering ribs and rib tips.The rib tips were cut too big, were very fatty, greasy and didn't offer a hint smoke or a smoke ring anywhere. The ribs had a very salty dry rub, weren't smokey, were very fatty and oddly dry. It didn't have a nice even cook. I'm glad I tried It to satisfy my curiosity, but I won't be going back or recommending the place. Dang, I wish it were as good as advertised! read more
