My neighbors and I share a fence that is probably as old as the house, 50+ years. We managed by patching it up as needed but my neighbor rents the house out to a day care and it was getting dangerous for the kids to play in that area. There were also big gaping holes that my dog could escape from. My neighbor did the research and got quotes from several places but we landed on Daniel Fence because she had used them previously to fix the fence with her other neighbor. Someone from the company came out to talk to me about the fence and what my expectations were. I have planter beds along that side of the fence and I made it clear that I wanted to keep them. I was told that they would cut the posts down to the planter beds and put new posts next to them. They are responsive and we were able to get the date for the replacement fixed. They were quick - tore down the existing fence along 2 homes, cleared up decades worth of ivy on y neighbor's side and had the fences done in 3 days. But instead of cutting the existing fence posts down to the planter beds as agreed to, they pulled the posts out as well as the frame for the beds on the side of the fence, they claimed that they could not put the fence on the property line if the frame remained. I insisted on the frame being added back and they agreed to clear some soil from the beds and add the frame back in. We had also agreed that they would remove all ivy on my side of the fence but they still quite a bit left that I have to pull out myself. They also pulled out a few drip lines and took down my sun shade and no communication about it, just left. I would recommend them but keep a close eye on the work and insist on everything that was agreed on and ask them to fix any damages. read more

We had Daniel Fence replace a long section of fence between our and our neighbor's yard in 2015. The worked looked good enough to begin with, though we did have some challenges with damage done to our property near the fenceline and some billing errors. We got it mostly sorted out at the time and I chalked it up to a good enough but not stellar job. Within a few years, I noticed that a few of the main fence posts had a little wobble to them, and that the gate no longer always latched when pushed closed, but didn't think much about it until this year when the wet and windy conditions exacerbated this and lead to our fence having a significant lean to it. Our fence is only 8 years old, barely halfway through what I would expect would be its minimum lifespan, and I was shocked when we discovered that 5 or 6 fenceposts were basically rotting out at the bottom and no longer well secured by the concrete footings. Come to find out that these footings were not poured correctly and the fenceposts were basically sitting on top of the footings for the original fence we replaced held in place by a little extra concrete. My neighbor and I requested a written quote on fixing our shared fence that was wobbling and they came out inspected and gave us our written estimate.A few days before the work was to take place I get a call and they raised the price. They said my quote was for posts to support our post not replacing our post? I told them forget it we will find a more professional contractor. They call later and tell me they can do it for our quoted price. Since there are there anyway at my other neighbors, so I give them the go ahead. I call on the morning they are to begin to make sure they are coming so I can inspect their work. They text back late in the day so I had already gone to work so we received no timely notification of their arrival. We discussed 3 times having them leave the old post for my neighbors and they did not leave our old posts as they had promised and they destroyed our chicken coop roof. Must have climbed on it or set tools on top. I sent pictures of the coop, oh and by the way my friend and I moved the coop away from the fence five feet to give them plenty of room . I spoke with the woman on the phone and asked for an explanation. She said she would look into it for us. Never called, never brought the neighbor back their posts. Oh and our fence still wobbles.. They should have replaced more posts so we have called in another contractor to correctly fix our fence. Sheesh The fence job was not good but the relationship to their customers was even worse, extremely unprofessional!! So I strongly recommend you use a different contractor to avoid ANY issues you as a consumer might have. Daniel Fence Company replaced a 43' section of fence and did a very good job. Agree with others, the team left the place very clean and put back together. Things I liked. They use pressure treated lumber for post and baseboards(This is standard), but they also use pressure treated for the bottom rail that the boards are nailed into. This is different and makes since as water can collect here. They also sloped the cement away from the posts so theoretically the posts should last longer. We had 2 different companies do different fences in our yard, due to coordination differences with our neighbors. Of the 2 we are pleased with both, but I give Daniel's team the edge due to their ability to communicate clearly with us, the ability to get a reasonable install date, and the extra pressure treated lumber above the kickboard. read more

I called Daniel fence in January for a fence installation in my back yard, I am renting my home and require a new fence before I can rent it out. Daniel fence quickly sent out someone to provide a quote, I accepted the quote and they confirmed that they can install it early March. March came and no word from Daniel Fence I sent emails and left them a voice message which they would not respond to. We received quotes from about 7 different fence companies in the area and Daniel Fence was BY FAR the easiest to work with, quickest response time, and best pricing. After our fence was built, I can now say AWESOME quality and super fast. The fence has been up for about 4 days now and everything seems to be settling in just fine. Leo and his crew did a fantastic job installing fences all around our back yard in two separate jobs/segments. Very easy to talk to on site and made sure we were on the same page about everything before proceeding (and checking in along the way when I requested he do so). The finish work is excellent and we have had several landscape contractors remark on the excellent worksmanship. It is STAGGERING how quickly the fences went up. The crew is like a well-oiled machine who had been working together for a long time, which speaks well for the company. Price was competitive with other fence companies and WAY below what we were quoted by landscape contractors doing other work. Nearly loses a star for communication leading up to the build. I echo what another reviewer said since both times we were sort of surprised when the guys actually showed up after lots of calls and emails went unanswered. I followed up by email with detailed drawings and specs. And then... nothing. I called and sent emails repeatedly, but couldn't get a reply of any kind. This is my third time getting a quote from Daniel. We had used this company 2 other times. Daniel Fence gave me a quote to fix the side gate and the right side fence, and I was ready to schedule the job. The neighbor was not ready to fix the side fence, so I asked to only replace the gate. It turns out Daniel is increasing the price for the gate by 43%. Not to mention the quote they gave me for the right side fence was 25% more expensive than the left side fence I had replaced by them (exact same length) 4 months ago. Although Daniel Fence did a good job for our fence. However, our sprinkler control was damaged by the contractor when he was taking down the old fence. We had to work and were not home until the end of the day to pay, but they shut the water off and did not tell us what happened. We did not realize that until all the big trees and plants were dying in the early summer. I wish that the company had notified me, at least. It caused more damaged to the plants and took a bit time for my brother to fix it. I am disappointed about the service and want to express that it was very dishonest and totally not a good business practice. This could be my bad luck, but I won't recommend this company. read more

I called Daniel Fence for an estimate in December of 2011. All went well. However, once they installed my two small fences (one was basically just a gate to close off my yard), my opinion of them quickly went downhill. The larger gate was okay; I did notice that some bolts were not flush (indicating a lack of care and detail in the work) but no issues caused by this. The smaller fence, however (the gate) was installed with such poor workmanship on the handle/hardware that I cannot get the gate to open or close without great force. I actually even cut my thumb trying to work this latch!! I informed Daniel Fence several times, got the BBB involved, wrote to Action Line, all to no avail. The company itself kept telling me "someone will be out, we can't say exactly when". At one point they actually told me that they had been out to fix it. NOT!! To this day, Daniel Fence has done NOTHING to come and reposition/replace the latch. I continue to struggle just to get it to open/close. They certainly were quick and responsive to collect their payment, however! Bottom line: If you need a fence, go with Galvan Fencing. DO NOT HIRE DANIEL FENCE!! They do not know the meaning of customer service. read more

I first used Daniel Fence back in 2016 for a 80ft fence and 10ft double gate. I've been so happy with their work, I asked them back for replacement of an 88ft fence with retaining wall and gate. I was very happy with their work again, their communications, and the craftsmanship building the gate. My neighbors were also impressed and asked for their name for future use. I feel obligated to give four stars rather than five because the crew arrived quite late, and because I had to plead a bit to get them to do some clean-up afterward that I regarded as an obvious part of the job. Still: if I had another fence to put in, I'd call them first. I met the owner when he arrived to bid on the job, and was impressed by his explanation of how they use termite-resistant wood furnished to their specifications, rather than buying from Home Depot. Yes, it could've just been a sales pitch, but it didn't sound like one to me. They're specialists. Fencing is what they do, and I suspect that they're simply better and less expensive than other providers for that reason. read more

We have been using Daniel Fence for at least 20 years now. Both our home in Amaden Valley as well as Gilroy, where we live now. The have done everything from fencing to decking to trellises and gates. All have turned out very well and have held up very well. This is regarding a new deck we had installed in our backyard. We contacted Daniel Fence Company and they are the ones who did the deck. From the beginning of the new deck in May 2016 we saw problems with the wood. Daniel, head of the company, said that is how deck wood is now, 5th generation. As they were putting it in you could see so many dark knots and the owner said that is how they are now. In October 2016, we contacted Daniel Fence telling them of many problems we had with the deck. The first time they came to our house, they said there was nothing they could do for it. About a month later, we contacted them again. Daniel and a few others came, took some pictures of the deck and decided to replace about 12 boards. The new ones did not have knots on them. The deck continued to look worse with the original wood. Daniel said we could have a new deck put in if we wanted but we would have to pay for it. He came out and measured the deck again and was going to give us what it would cost. The day he was to come, he did not show up. The next day he called us and said he was VERY sick. About ten days later, we called him and he did not answer the message. We tried MANY more times but he did not return our calls. For the entire year after putting in the deck, no one who came to our house knew this was a new deck. It looked very bad. At this point, we contacted two professional deck companies and a realtor to come to see our deck. They all came at different times. We did not tell them it was new. They all thought it was well over 10 years old and saw many problems. It came to the conclusion that we would need another new deck or to paint the current deck. Since we could not afford another new deck, we had it painted and it looks MUCH better but still you can see the problems with the wood. We also found out another friend of ours had a new fence put in by Daniel Company. They had problems and he did not respond back to them either until he put the problem in Yelp. That is why we are doing this on YELP so many others know you could end up with him not replying to your phone calls and your problems.
