I've had a great experience from beginning to end. I'm *very* averse to dentists, I've had more bad experiences than I can count, and I basically just stopped going for 5 years - as if the problems would go away. The stars aligned with I discovered WDI does sedation dentistry and accepted my insurance. It helped, too, that the team is predominantly female, because I feel safer being sedated amongst women, and also find they take my fears and concerns more seriously. The team was very kind and patient with me as my panic attack at the first extraction almost prevented us from getting anything done. They helped calm me down, and literally next thing I knew I was in the recovery room with my partner holding my hand. Yes, it cost thousands of dollars - but I knew that going in. They were clear what the timeline, costs, and outcomes would be. When 1/3 of the way through the process a glitch came up on my end (another tooth needed to be removed), they talked me through my options and provided sage advice. There were flexible payment plans, and I never once felt neglected, denied, ignored, or taken advantage of. Their front office team are delightful, their space probably the only place I'd have gone during the pandemic, and the doctor and technicians were all kind, clear, and concise. The only thing that made me sad was having to get the final step - the - crowns elsewhere. I wish I could have done it all, beginning to end, with them. I didn't realize it was my last time being there until I was gone, and I didn't get to thank anyone for being so good to me for the past 8 months during a pandemic. So I am now - this is the type of group you write a farewell note to, so everyone - including them - can see how great they are.

Let's start with the front desk staff, Absolutely warm, friendly and professional. I was extremely nervous because I was having 2 wisdom teeth and one regular tooth removed at the same time. Even though I was being sedated (put to sleep) my stomach was in knots about the whole thing. My husband was more anxious than I was however, the entire staff was very warm and empathetic to each of us. The surgeon explained everything to my husband and myself down to the tea. The whole procedure including the sedation may have taken 30 mins tops. I had my surgery yesterday and my face wasn't even that swollen after the procedure plus I have stitches and today it's not swollen at all. I'm not even taking narcotics just a high dose of pain medicine post surgery 1 day. Great Staff, great Surgeon great Dental Assistances. Keep up the great work guys.

I…read morearrived 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time and found two patients already in the waiting room. Fifteen minutes past my appointment time I asked the receptionist how long it would be before Dr. Palumbo would see me. The receptionist seemed to cast my concerns aside, stating Dr. Palumbo was performing surgery. I asked what that had to do with my appointment time, as I was on leave from my job. After being treated so dismissively, I just asked for an excuse note so I could return to work. It appears that my initial experience of waiting an excessive amount of time to be seen was not an anomaly. I loathe it when medical providers triple, quadruple book patients for the same time, as if people have nothing to do but sit around and wait for them. Greed seems to be the underlying factor, and I, for one, will not abide anyone taking me or my time for granted. To his credit, Dr. Palumbo did call me to apologize, but when I tried to explain to him that a simple phone call asking me to re-schedule would have been acceptable, he over-talked me. Thus, the downgrade. Just as other reviewers wrote, Dr. Palumbo and his staff are superb! He has excellent chair-side manner, he's jovial and compassionate, very down to earth, and most importantly, competent! He called to check on me after my extraction, re-iterated the post-op instructions, seemed genuinely concerned about my well-being and asked me if I had any additional questions. (I don't recall ever receiving this kind of attention from a medical professional after a visit. He also gives his cell number so you can contact him directly, instead of going through after-hour service, if necessary.) I am extremely happy that I took a chance on this oral surgeon, who hasn't lost old-school values, as many other providers seemingly have. One drawback: I did have to wait about 40 minutes to be seen, but I hope this was only due to my being a new patient with added registration/insurance verification procedures. (I strongly suggest new patients either complete forms online or print out, complete and bring to first appointment.) Kudos, Team!

Like a chore, maybe a little intimidating, definitely not something you look forward to. Well, let me tell you, I actually found myself leaving with a big smile, and I'm still trying to process that! This isn't your average, run-of-the-mill dental office where you just feel like another number. From the very first contact, it was clear this place operates differently. When I called to book my appointment, Chanel was incredibly understanding and truly went the extra mile to find a time that worked perfectly for me. You could tell she genuinely cared about making things as easy as possible, which immediately set a positive tone. Stepping into the office, the atmosphere was a breath of fresh air. No bland waiting rooms or soul-numbing TV screens here! Instead, everyone was so welcoming and attentive, making me feel comfortable right away. Then there's Dynay, who handled my X-rays. She was just so gentle and reassuring, explaining everything in a calm, soft voice. It really made a potentially awkward part of the visit surprisingly easy. And Dr. Victor? He was fantastic. He really listened to what I wanted and took the time to discuss all the different options available, making sure we landed on a plan that fit my needs perfectly. It felt like a true partnership in my dental care. Of course, the financial side can always be a bit murky, right? But Andrea in billing is an absolute star! She broke down all the costs, explained my insurance coverage crystal clear, and even walked me through various payment options without missing a beat. It was so refreshing to have everything laid out so transparently. Honestly, when it comes to something as personal as dental care, feeling comfortable and cared for is everything. This team made me feel like part of a family. I truly feel like I've hit the jackpot finding this place, and I couldn't be happier with my entire experience! Happy Thanksgiving

However, depending on your insurance provider and assigned dentist, the wait times can be frustrating, even with a scheduled appointment. During my recent visit, I arrived 30 minutes early and still waited an additional 22 minutes past my appointment time before being seen. I also would not recommend relying on this office for specialist referrals. I was referred to a specialist who was outside of my insurance network, which resulted in significantly higher out-of-pocket costs. I later learned that the referral was made because the specialist was considered a "trusted" colleague or friend of the office, rather than based on insurance coverage or patient convenience. I feel like both could have been achieved with some DD. Had I known this beforehand, I could have researched and selected a qualified in-network specialist closer to my location and avoided unnecessary expenses. Since CHDG office asks about insurance coverage at every visit and emphasizes its importance, I was surprised that insurance network compatibility was not taken into consideration when providing referrals.

He did this in the manner it should have been done from the beginning. Unfortunately, he agreed I shouldn't come back because his front desk staff attitude is bad and afraid if I come back in person there may be some physical altercation, which is scary because why would it get physical if you hire professional staff? That was a super weird comment. .................................................................................................................................. DO NOT patronize this establishment. The receptionist Lazandria or a name very similar is very rude. She is always the lady that answers the phone with the DC accent. She has been rude since my first appointment. Additionally, when contacting them about a follow-up, the receptionist hung up in my face claiming the dental office on the other line was calling about me, when I told her there is no way this could be true, she hung up anyway. She knew she was wrong because she called back and said, "I'm sorry they weren't calling about you, it was another patient and I apologize for being so rude". The fact you have to call back and acknowledge you can't keep you attitude in check lets me know this dentist does not care about who he hires and how they treat his customers. She was also very nasty when corresponding with them about my referral to a specialist. She told me it was not their fault that they may not be in network when they refer out to specialists. This is after when I called and asked how they refer to specialists, and she said they refer to specialists based on my insurance. She realized there was a problem and tried to walk back on what she initially said. You ARE NOT SAFE with them. Anyone that can hire staff that will be so reckless with your care is not a good establishment. This woman hung up in my face and proceeded to yell at me on the phone when she started changing her story after saying they referred me based on my insurance. They take no responsibility. Anyone that cares about their money and wants a confident health care team that WORKS TOGETHER, this is not the place for you. If this comment is removed, I will repost. Today is 8-9-2022.

From my brief appointment with her yesterday, I could tell that she's the kind of medical practitioner that makes you want to become a long time patient. A solid 5 star dental professional. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk personnel left much to be desired. LaShandra gave me the feeling that she didn't want to be bothered with me. The tone in which she spoke to me on the phone before I ever made it into the office was curt, but then when I finally came in the office, I felt that her tone was even more demeaning. The whole time she spoke with me, she'd never make any eye contact. I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids and trying to hear when people have a mask on is very difficult and she seemed to not want to repeat anything and that she simply didn't have time. (Mind you, there's no one else in the waiting area, nor is the phone ringing during this time which I would've understood if she couldn't answer my questions at the moment due to other office obligations). Finally I asked her to give me a second to turn on my mic (I have a mic that connects directly to my hearing aids via Bluetooth to help me hear better. The last question (about insurance) I started to try and ask her before going into the room with the doctor, I was stopped abruptly by her saying that it was time to see the doctor so I guess that was her way of not answering the question. Growing up, my family didn't have a healthy dental routine of seeing dentists. As an adult, I'm dealing with the consequences of that and trying to create healthier dental habits moving forward. I was beyond excited to come to Capitol Family Dental since it's in my neighborhood and had so many phenomenal reviews. I had even convinced my husband to give them a shot potentially leaving his normal dentist and hygienist that he's been going to for 10+ years since Capitol Family Dentistry is in the neighborhood. But unfortunately, my experience speaking with LaShandra multiple times over the phone before I came in for my first appointment coupled with my in-person experience turned me off a bit. Moreover, when I'd ask questions, she'd make assumptions that she knew the reason behind my question and answered based on what she thought I needed to know instead of just answering my question which made the communication even more tense (not to mention, leaving me without the information I was trying to get). I mean, I'm in the dentist's office ON MY BIRTHDAY with a broken tooth. Definitely not how I want to start off the morning of my birthday but to be made to feel like you're not worth the time is just not a good experience. Not sure how to proceed but I may still be looking for a new dentist. I hate to give such a highly regarded dental practice 2 stars, but when the experience with front desk is such that it leaves you feeling like you don't want to come back and you're weighing to yourself whether or not to continue to subject yourself to this type of treatment, I think it warrants it. I couldn't do only 1 star because Dr. P was a gem. But what good are great doctors when the staff makes you feel like trash before you even get to meet them?
