Came in with my family and we all know it's a roll of the dice when you try a new place out. Be warned they are a small shop that is not set up to just rush people in and out. Wow. I don't know even where to begin. Worst experience that I can remember. Literally. I love boudin, and so I wanted to try this place. There are 5 tables in restaurant, which is important because I saw two of them pay for their drinks, and get up and leave before their food came out. I was considering doing the same. Two other tables received one of their two entrees, and waited for their second to come out 15 minutes later. I ordered a cup of gumbo ($10??) which came out 45 minutes after I ordered it, and boudin balls (3 for $14??). The boudin balls came out 20 minutes after the gumbo, which means I waited a little over an hour for two items on their "appetizer" menu. I paid $3 for an "unlimted soda" and never once was asked if I needed a refill in the hour and 45 minutes that I was in the place. The gumbo was pretty good. No complaints. I ate one half of a boudin ball and couldn't stomach the extreme saltiness of what essentially was a ball of rice that was battered. Very little sausage in the mix. Stay away. Stay far far away. The atmosphere filled with hungry guests staring at the ceiling, waiting and wondering if they'll ever get their food, was about as appealing as sitting in a Dentist's waiting room. They were out of Jambalaya and Dirty Rice. The fried crawfish were bits of fried batter, no crawfish! The veggie side on my meal was frozen mixed vegetables. The dinner salad was old rusty lettuce. Ok, we were back with a few other family members this past September...not sure why I didn't get this update in. I had the Mardi Gras Seafood Pasta and a sweet tea. As well as some Crawfish Chowder. Be warned, the Crawfish Chowder sells out fast..but it's WICKED AWESOME! And I'm a "Chowdah" expert from New England. Took my daughter here for her birthday dinner. She really liked her Gumbo she got. My son liked his Po-boy and the hushpuppies were really good. Our server was very nice and the restaurant seemed really clean with a nice vibe, it is very small and had and cozy dining feel to it. It was very slow to get our food as in almost an hour. Everything is made to order here so do not come here expecting to get in and out in under an hour. It is home cooking and they don't start cooking until you order it. It is all well worth the wait though!! I ordered the sampler and enjoyed all of it. Crawfish étouffée, jambalaya (chicken and sausage), and dirty rice (ground beef). They were all served in coffee mugs/cups but it was plenty of food. I was stuffed but I wasn't going to leave a bit! There's a spice to all of them, it is Cajun cooking so if you're wimpy on the spice just let them know. Off the menu is a Catfish Pontchartrain which my mom ordered and it was awesome! Basically a big ole plate of shrimp étouffée but with a pan fried catfish filet in it too. So good! Again, go here and enjoy the home cooking but just don't expect it to happen fast. Not going to lie my husband and I were a little skeptical when we walked in since it was so casual; but y'all. YALL. The food. Let's just talk about the food!! Some of the best freaking New Orleans style food we have had even over the places we have been in New Orleans. It is some legit Cajun food and my soul is happy. Secondly the staff. So sweet.
