It is ALWAYS an uneasy feeling trying to find a mechanic that doesn't force you to get all the "razzle dazzle" when all you wanted was an oil change. I read some much older reviews about dishonesty and let me be the one to assure you that present day Dan's Automotive is the ONLY shop I will ever take my car to again. I drive a 2017 VW Beetle and he's getting on in mileage, which of course in turn means weird noises and things I won't pretend to know anything about. Dealerships in the past could tell me I needed a new go pedal and flying lemur to make my tires move and I would have left not only purchasing both but with absolutely no further understanding. At Dan's, their lead technician Jarrod broke everything down Barney style with more patience than I deserved. I didn't feel stupid about asking questions and he explained to me the WHY!! Also, no ridiculous up-selling. He told me about things I'll need later on but does not leave me in any immediate dangerous driving conditions. Key point here - I actually got to speak with the guy who worked on my vehicle, my car runs better than ever before, AND I'm more knowledgeable because of it all. Remember that Euro car parts are expensive and your auto technician absolutely deserves the rate they charge here (it's competitive and fair with the absolute benefit of no cut corners in my opinion). I also truly feel that this team is just amazing in general and totally experienced, those toolboxes are worth more than my house for sure, lol. Oh! Took van in to get ABS light checked out. Told us that sensor was rusted out, not very necessary to fix. Glad he was honest. We had an appointment, yet we waited about 5 hours for an update, & over 24 hours for an actual update. Dropped it off at 10am, got a call at 3pm, didn't get a call at all the next day, just showed up to the shop asking for an update. Got charged $410, including tax. Got charged about 2-3 hours worth of labor. Grateful they checked it out, feeling a bit ripped on getting charged that much for a diagnosis. They did call asking if it was ok to stay overnight while they look over it more, but to figure out nothing was fixed? we said it was fair to charge us for the time they put into it, but we weren't expecting 3 hours worth of "labor"??? Wish I would've taken it to the dealership from the start. Left with the abs light still on & a hurt wallet. Labor was cheaper at the dealership. read more

This review is long overdue. My 2013 Audi Q5 2.0 timing chain was repaired by Dan's Automotive back in November 2022 at about 100k miles. I got a quote from 3 different repair shops and they came in the lowest. I had other shops quote me but insisting on doing other work. Not only did they complete the job in 1 day but the saved me money by not replacing parts that were still in good condition. My final bill was 25% less than the original quote. 5 months later my car is still running great. They also cleared up some missinformation I received from the local Audi dealer on service intervals. These gentlemen have done a TON of work on my 2013 Audi and I couldn't be happier with the end result. I had a knocking/rattling sound coming from the front end. These types of issues are so hard to diagnose but Dan, Garrett, Keith and Phil were relentless in making it right. In one case, the brand new parts they installed were defective from the factory. Dan's Automotive advertises they specialize in MB, Porsche, Audi, VW, BMW. Mid-March they changed the oil with Motul Synthetic (including filter) for $157.50. The MB made it to Denver and back before I noticed a burning smell. Today I took it to another specialty repair shop. The oil plug was slightly loose and oil had dripped all over the exhaust system. Thank goodness my HS offered auto shop to women back in the day. read more

Go to Dan's if you like dealing with shady work, terrible customer service, and waiting for a tow truck. My VW Jetta TDI broke down and Dan's automotive was nearby and had good reviews. The car was dropped off on a Friday afternoon and they quickly diagnosed the timing belt and cam sensor as the problem and got parts ordered. I told them to take their time to thoroughly inspect the car and let me know what they find. I got a call Monday afternoon saying the car was ready to go and that I was in luck since the Cam sensor didn't have to be changed out after all which saved me $200. I picked up the car and had to get my tire patched since it was leaking air. I don't know if the leak was caused by the tow company or Dan's. I went to Costco right down the road and noticed right away that the car wasn't running great. The Costco employees couldn't get my car to start to get it out of the bay, but I was able to rev it a bit to get it going enough to get me home. I took my wife for a test drive to explain what I had experienced so she could explain it to Dan's when she took it back in. The car died in an intersection and would not start again. I got the car home and looked to see if there was anything obvious happening. I noticed that there were some bolts missing on my fuel filter housing and the cover to the timing belt had been put back, but not clipped in. I called Dan's to tell them the car died and was told that "it must be something else then and what kind of maintenance has been done to the car." They didn't offer any solutions other than bring the car back in. I got the car towed back to Dan's at my expense and told them to keep me updated on what they found. The next call I got was to tell me the car was ready, and I would have to pay another $400 since they had to replace the Cam sensor. They never called to get authorization for the work or to inform me of additional costs not covered by warranty. After some arguing about why that wasn't done during the initial visit, they removed 1 hour of labor to cover the cost of getting the car towed back to the shop bringing the cost down to about $290. I spoke with Dan who was really mad that they had to cover the cost of the tow since "there was no way they could have known the Cam sensor was bad because the car was running" and "we could just start replacing every sensor like they do at the dealership, but we try to save you money." After some back and forth, I paid the bill so I could put this awful experience behind me. The car was running better this time but died again the next day. I will find another shop to do business with and so should you. read more

On a road trip from Houston to Portland in my 2002 330ci, the check-engine-light came on and the engine provided inconsistent power and even shut off a few times. Not wanting to risk being stranded during a long leg of driving in the desert, I looked up reputable mechanics in the area and found Dan's. Garrett, Dan's son and one of the head technicians, picked up the phone. After hearing my story, he made some time the next morning to meet. After looking at the codes, Garrett saw the the engine was "running lean" and ran a smoke test. He cleaned the tubes and replaced the crank shaft valve. They also replaced my air intake sensor which was reading the volumes incorrectly. From there, my car ran well and never shut off for the next 19 hours of driving. This relieved our stress along the road trip. Beyond fixing the problem which was complicated, they get 5-stars because of the level of customer care, knowledge of the problem, and attention to detail. Garrett did a thorough computer diagnostic of the car and walked me through what the readings meant and provided me options. They were honest and didn't scare or tell me I HAD to do anything. I've worked with some amazing and also not-so-great mechanics from LA to Houston, and I could tell that Dan's is a top-notch place with authentic folks who know what they're doing. The owner, Dan, even gave me a free ride back to the hotel and recommended I check our Sandia peak while waiting. It was a good day in Albuquerque. And as follow-up, Garrett gave me his card and offered to transfer knowledge to my next mechanic once I made it to Portland for some other issues that weren't as pressing. I took my 19 year old son's 1999 Mercedes Benz that he needed desperately for work to get checked out due to an engine light. I spoke with Dan who was nice he gave me an estimate and I said let's get this fixed so we can register it. I took it in they said this car was a mess but we can fix what we need to get it registered. I unknowing paid $1800 for repairs that had nothing to do with why the cars engine was on. We took it to the City of Albuquerque Emissions Department to get an extension. He tested it and told me it was a leak in the system and gave me the codes. So when I called back to let them know what the issues were and why I paid for things that didn't matter?!? He replied "It is what it is" and then continued to curse me out and scream at me. He said I call the shots here not Dan!!!! I was shaking and I felt like a fool in tears. I will never recommend this place to anyone!!! I'm out 1800 dollars for repairs and labor that had nothing to do with my son's car issues. Because I'm a woman I was taken to the cleaners and disrespected. read more

Horrible and dishonest. All I wanted was my heater fixed. My BMW Z3 Roadster middle console paneling was perfect condition when I took it in and the clock worked great. When I got it back, the console paneling was warped and they tried to glue it on. The clock worked and looked perfect before I took it in. when I got it back it was hanging loosely and did not work. They tried to tell me the console panel and clock were already like that and it wasn't them that broke it. These guys tried to cover up with lies and won't stand by their work. I found out later that they were supposed to take out the entire middle console and not just the panel. Of course the panel would break from them prying it out. They charged me $1400 and now it's costing me $1000 to fix what they broke. I believe these are guys taking advantage of women. The owner even called me honey when trying to explain about the console and clock. Rotten business owners. I ended up taking my car to a different place to fix Dan's mistakes. They told me that Dan's taped the clock back on because they broke the pieces that hold it onto the panel. I've been advised to only deal with the BMW dealership because they back up their work with waurantee. Dan's does not. Do not go to them. read more

Dan's is a family owned business that specializes in German automobiles. They work on Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Porsche, but can service and repair any car out there. These guys are no-nonsense, and honest mechanics that will not try to sell you parts and work you do not need. They have been servicing quality autos for over twenty years and they are very professional. I needed a ride to work in the morning and the owner's son was quick to get me there. Apparently, they realize that I have a job to do as well. They looked my car over thoroughly and made sure it was ready for the long trip to Austin. I had taken my Beemer into another place a few months ago and they wanted me to replace the oil and transmission pans costing about $1500.00! When I asked Dan's about this they told me that I could do that if I wanted, but instead they haver other options that were less expensive but would do the job just as well. They would rather be straight with me than win a sale. They were done with everything within a couple of hours and called me to say they could pick me up anytime. 15 minutes later I was back in my car. They reminded me that I would probably need my brakes done in the next 5,000 miles and that I should let them know when I was ready so they could have the parts ready when I wanted them done. These guys were really great, a real breath of fresh air and not snooty like the dealership can be. I highly recommend them to anyone with a German auto, or anything for that matter! read more

Have used them for several years for my BMWs (X5 Diesel and gas), Mercedes (E diesel+SL) and have found them honest, more competent than the local dealers, and cheaper. Besides that they are friendly and helpful. Most impressively, they fixed a EGR problem on the BMW X% 35d that had perplexed dealer service in NM and CA. In fact the car was a lemon repurchase by the dealer in CA because BMW could not fix it. Dan's son fixed it. What more can you ask. read more

Dan is a great stand-up guy. I used to go to Dieter's who I also like and respect but you can have a nice conversation with Dan most of the time plus when I started owning German diesel cars, there is really no place in the city that you won't have doubts. It's a European car specialist so, you pay-up some 10-15/hr more than my regular guy but he stays true to his estimate. If you are one of those Mercedes 300D or OM617 -- early mechanical diesel freaks, look no further as this is the place to go. VW and Audi TDI's as well. Last time I was there he was fixing new MB diesels and even a Bimmer diesel. Of course they fix gas-vehicles as well. But I have no direct experience other than the patrons I talked seemed to be happy and loyal. read more

Don't worry about taking your car to these guys! You will get the best price and they do a fantastic job. I have a 2010 BMW and hit some debris in the road which dislodged my oil pump and blowing the engine. Towed it to the BMW dealer which was $26,000 for a new engine or $8,000 for a used engine with 116K miles on it! No way to either of those options. I took it to Dan's and they found an engine with 33K miles on it and replaced it for $6,400. When the engine blew it knocked out the O2 sensors in the exhaust which caused the check engine light to come on. They let me get the sensors online, which was much cheaper than the dealer and they installed them for free. I was also getting an error on the halo lights as well so they replaced them too. I am so happy with the job they did and the car is running better than before. I am so happy to find a good mechanic in town that beats everyone's price and does an amazing job. They do everything from oil changes to engine replacement which was needed in my case. read more
