Great staff--friendly and helpful. Fun local store with an amazing selection for kids (and grown up kids)

I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to Curtis for his exceptional customer service while assisting with my attempt to procure a repair for a simple wooden mobile from my childhood. After being directed to him as someone who might be open to the opportunity, Curtis took one look at the item, scowled, and said, "That's not anything I want to touch. You can fix it yourself." It was truly a memorable experience. Without Curtis, I may have gone on with my day feeling perfectly fine. I am a lifelong crafter and I have been sleeping on Dan's! There is so much available at this store. My husband and I took our niece here, and I think she had more fun just looking around than actually picking out things to buy. There are huge sections of Legos, models, craft kits, games, toys, beads, painting supplies, and even stuff for babies. My niece got a coloring book, pastel colored pencils, a game with sparkly fish, and a little plastic helicopter. My husband even got some super glue that he needed for work. Nothing was terribly priced, and the staff was helpful and friendly. I have been trying to fit more crafts into my life as a relaxing hobby, and I think I'll have to visit Dan's again to pick up a craft kit. It's a fun place to just browse too. read more

While the selection of products was impressive (wall to wall product), I wasn't thrilled with the staff. No one took time to say hi or ask if I needed help. After 30 minutes of roaming around, someone could have made an attempt. I'll acknowledge that they had their hands full with a family that was hogging the RC counter, but that's not an excuse to ignore others. Asking for the key to the bathroom was the only interaction had with a staff member, and you'd think I had asked for the cash from the drawer. For me, there are other shops that are the same distance - customer service keeps people coming back. Sorry, Dan's, I'll be heading elsewhere. read more

Beautiful chaos! I was in need of a new hobby and Dan's Crafts and things was prepped and ready to take care of me. This store is right near my house and has...everything. Figures, puzzles, knitting, scrapbooking, games, nostalgia...truly everything you could need to start your next project! I started my first knitting project, well, I started attempting to knit I guess. I grabbed a kit to make my dog a sweater and some yarn. So far, I've been learning from a mix of the book and some youtube videos, which has been working nicely...ish :) The store itself is a little stuffy and really overwhelms me, but staff is good about just sending you to where you need to go. A great way to spend an afternoon daydreaming about gorgeous things to create! read more

This store allows customers to carry concealed weapons while shopping. In fact, they encourage it and advertise on a very large sign CCW IS ALLOWED HERE. Imagine needing to bring a gun with you to shop for art supplies? I will never return. SO disappointing. Also, the prices are OBSCENELY expensive! Many other small craft stores locally that are much better. Look into Crafts Bits & Pieces (Fairport), SewGreen (Rochester), or Crafting for Good (Chili). read more

Love this craft store! 100% recommend over a Michaels or JoAnn's. There's a lot packed into this store! Crafts, model trains, RC cars, toys, games, miniatures and more. Reasonable prices. EXCELLENT customer service. They've really taken their time to explain different options for our RC boats and we're able to look up parts if they didn't have it in stock. Dan's is a local institution, an incredible wonderland of fun items that light up the eyes of young and old alike. They have a great selection of toys, games, hobbies and crafts for everyone. Staff are friendly and helpful. I prefer to spend a little more to support this local business and not the online or national behemoths and billionaires of the world. Stop by and don't be surprised if you see that thing from your childhood that you once loved but had long since forgotten. read more

i go to this store very often to buy modeling supplies and they've always had so many things to choose from. they have hundreds of different model cars, planes, tanks. and every differnt kind of paint you can imagine! and theyve got so much else throughout the store, it's a great place and the staff has always been really helpful and kind! read more

they stalk you around this store like everyone is a thief and then scrutinized my credit card like I was a like I was Raffles trying to get away with not paying for a 4 dollar coloring book for my daughter. they actually told me that my name looks like a girls. f'in disgusting. never again. truth is a lot of these "great local businesses " are like this. yr better off at a chain or online. always liked this place but that was too much. also the ridiculous bag policy. women carry purses, i carry a bag with my medication. you don't want women in yr store tell them they can't have their purse. you'll never see them again. greeting people like criminals before they even walk in the door is not sound policy and i will almost always walk away. and like in a previous review, if a man attempted to take it off my arm, well he'd be nursing that arm for a bit. they are just gross here. not to mention like 30% more expensive than online. I'm willing to pay more for local but here it's way over the top. read more

I would say that they are very well stocked, surprisingly so! I have yet to be disappointed when I go hunting there for supplies. Nice styrene, K&S metals, wood, paint and Model Rail Road selections. Super model selection, one of the best I've seen in years! I'm not into Radio Control but they have a great RC department and I have a couple of friends that swear by them and their knowledgable staff. Some (but not all) prices are a little bit on the high side but still cheaper than most mail order and you have the convience of walking out with the product in your hand when you leave instead of checking the mail box. For me convience and a great selection wins out over a slight price increase. Also, try asking Amazon which silver paint is best for your project - Dan's advice was spot on! Best to go in when less busy, you get better service - it can get busy in spurts and the staff of 5 or 6 (I think) is doing all they can to help everyone and keep up. One of the unofficial things I like is meeting other hobbyists there and trading ideas on materials and technique - call me old fashioned, but one face to face dialogue is more satisfying that a hundred Facebook replies. I feel lucky that this store is in our area and even though I have to drive 30 minutes to get there, it's well worth the trip. read more

The service I get with the RC cars is terrific. Dan has helped a couple times, and another person was also very friendly and helpful. They solved some problems with charging and helped guide me through unclear assembly instructions. So much appreciated! In addition, I absolutely love the dollhouse supplies. I've always wanted one! The arts and crafts supplies are also great. I bought what may be consigned (???) tips for cutting a tile. That brought me back to my favorite unit of studio art in jr. high school. (Was it linoleum I used back then?) Among their many interesting items, I also found a really nice kite. I'm looking forward to using it with our son. On our first visit, we were astounded by the range of selections! We stopped in on a whim, and we have now found a favorite store. Extraordinary customer service, and as my granddaughter said, "Everyone is so nice there!" We have had lots of fun with the new roller coaster, and when we made some errors, Dan helped us out in a kind and skilled way. read more

The owners are real dicks. Condescending. Rude. They dont even know their products. I bought an rc car yesterday that was broken out of the box. They steadfastly refused to accept any responsibility. If I could live in an alternate world and choose a dream job, this store would be it. Half hobby (model trains, rockets, RC cars) and half craft (flowers, beads, sewing, yarn), it is the type of thing I wish I could own with my wife. I have been coming here off and on for 20+ years. When I was a child, they had an amazing LGB "Orient Express" train set way up high selling for $1000. I loved seeing that train, and even now I still want it! Their train selection isn't as large as a full model train store (I am a model train hobbyist) but they carry lots of great things to build a layout. I am not into RC cars but they seem to have a big selection of that too. I have purchased rockets from them as well. Puzzles, painting sets, and toys are available too. I brought my wife here and she enjoyed it too. Their selection of paints, yarn, sewing supplies, beads, and other things like that are nice. I wish we had a store like this where I live now in Albany. (And I wish I had the Orient Express train set too!) read more

I live about a one hour away from this place but it's worth the drive. They give great service and can help you with any questions you have about the rc world. I've bought a few things from this place and always satisfied. Most recent was a mid drive shaft for my rc I actually picked up the wrong part. After opening the bag and noticing it thank god I did it in the parking lot I would have been mad at my self if went all the way back home and realized I picked up the wrong part lol,but I took it right back in they gave me the right part thanks guys and was on my way very helpful people with a great attitude which goes far with me plus they always have great prices on the stuff. If you want to get into the rc world of just like to do crafts this is the place to go. read more

Stopped here for the first time ever as I'd rather support a local business instead of the large corporations. I wanted to love it, and they have a great selection of products! But, there were at least 6 staff members on duty and not a single one offered to help or provide assistance in any way. They preferred to hang out and gossip and could barely mumble a hello when cashing me out. Would not recommend and will not be returning. read more

Guess I'm missing something with all the positive reviews. Every time I've looked at items I'm interested in I can usually find them 20-30% cheaper on-line. I'm all for supporting local stores over on-line, but not for this difference. Couple that with a lot of the employees acting like they're mad at the world, and it's not an enjoyable experience. read more

I love that this place is still here after so many years! It's a nice "break" from big box stores craft stores such as Michael's and Joann's, and offers an interesting and unique variety of crafts and hobby-type products. Since it's a more personalized experience, the salespeople there are more than willing to help. I hope this classic remains here for more years to come.. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!! My wife, my three year old daughter and I decide to stop for a few items and harrassement as soon as we enter. My wife heads to shop and I'm off to day dream on a nice starter train set. Next thing to happen is an employee comes and asks if I need help then walks off. Next he sends the next guy over to take my wife's purse off my arm. Very rude as I tell him it's my wife's purse. As he's walking away with my wife's purse he walks away with a smug remark. I'm 40 years old and treated like a kid. They do not want our business and we'll go elsewhere for my first train set. Terrible customer service! They'll say it's policy to not carry a bag in store but it's my wife's purse. So I take it no woman is allowed to carry their purse in the store. I used to beg my parents to take me here, all the way from Hamlin, as a kid. Now I work down the street and still stop in all the time. I love this place. It is a real asset to our city and a goldmine if you're into modeling, modifications, building things, or any sort of arts/crafts. They have the best supply of modeling and r/c equipment of anywhere I've been. Great knowledgeable people and a great atmosphere that feels timeless. read more

I'm a craftaholic and I've been coming to Dans since I was a little kid. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is a real neighborhood feel to the place. Join their rewards program and they send you a birthday card signed by all the employees every year along with a coupon. They carry a lot of speciality items you might not be able to find at the big craft stores, but they don't necessarily have all of the variety and bargain basement prices of the big stores. I like to shop there to support a local business - and if they have what I need they are my 1st choice. read more

This is a great store for hobbies and craft supplies. They have things that the chain stores don't. The staff is easy to find when you need help, and they are very well stocked. There is more available for the hobbyist such as wood, metal, and plastic building supplies. There's also a good selection of small tools, models, beads, ribbons, art etc. read more

I'm new to the rc world and the staff here has been amazing. They are friendly helpful and polite most important they are always smiling and happy to see me. They are very knowledgeable they don't push products on you or try to sell you something thats not what your looking for. I have been to other hobby shops in the area and this one is by far superior. They have a amazing selection there is something for everyone here. The point program is genius and shows they care about your return business.
