Dan's has a good reputation, but we have ALWAYS thought that the food is just your average "run of the mill" food. Nothing special about it. It's one redeeming quality is simply that it"s the only restaurant in a heavily rural area. If it were competing with restaurants in Narragansett, South Kingstown, East Greenwich, Westerly or Providence it would do very poorly. On this particular night, we took our order to go. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan and when I got it home and opened the STYROFOAM container there was a plop of sauce on the eggplant, one medium plop! When I took a knife to cut the eggplant I was met with resistance, flipped it over and it was BURNED on the other side, no wonder the knife wouldn't cut into it! The linguine was mushy, what happened to AL DENTE??? The eggplant itself was a round disk, frozen, pre-made???? Tasteless. Are you kidding me!!! Everything about this dish was horrible! We live in Hopkinton and will not ever return to Dan's Place. I would rather drive a bit further to Westerly for an excellent meal from the myriad of restaurants there. Step it up, Dan's Place or your reputation is going to go downhill. People who have worked all week and want a decent meal on a Friday evening are not going to let you get away with slacking off. read more

A big surprise in the wilds of Exeter. Went here with my non-foodie brother and cousins expecting a mediocre time of it. BOY was I wrong. Their Reuben Sandwich was one of the best I've had. Thick slices of marbled rye., absolutely delicious coenwd beef ( and lots of it) just e nough sauekraut and russian dressing to hold it ll together. Good fries and onion rings , too. I've tried their steak tips and fish and chips as well, but I keep coming back for the Reuben. FROMPROVIDENCE!!!! ...and if yyou're a rhode Islander you know what a tremendous chore that it. Actually Dan's is no more than 15 min south of Providence by freeway....right off the 95 southX Rt 102 intersection. Very informal but a great comfort food place....I really should try a few more things from the menu. The pizza looks good. but that Reuben snags me just about every time I walk in the door. TV is really loud especially if ther';s a game on...obnoxious , actually....but it's tolerable if you can get a seat in one of the "satelite" dining rooms. read more

We've been here for lunch, and just recently for dinner. We love the ginormous portions of their very good food! I had the small Sweet & Tangy BBQ pizza, and was worried I would leave hungry, as it comes with no side dishes. However, I had half to take home as leftovers, after sharing with my husband. I live right down the road from Dan's and I hardly ever go there. It is always busy and atleast a 30 minute wait around dinner time. Also, the food is average and very greasy. In addition, a friend of mine who plays football on the towns school team went in with the team and coaches last year and were kicked out by the owner because one of the coaches worked at another restaurant in town. Finally, when there is live entertainment is is way too loud and you can't even talk to the person next to you until the song is over. Overall, Dan's is an ok restaurant but I would not recommend going here, instead id recommended driving a few more minutes down the road to Cornerstone Pub on Route 3. read more

Dan's Place is a lively spot with good food, big TVs and an upbeat atmosphere. The prices are affordable, which makes it a great place for both adults and children. Our waitress was pleasant, attentive, and we never felt rushed. They have a big menu with a variety of options for all appetites. The fact that they have poutine on their menu is a huge bonus. (Okay, so it's not as good as the Canadian stuff, but it definitely satisfies my cravings when they creep up!) The hubs really enjoyed his jalapeno burger and was especially impressed with the big slices of crispy bacon on it. Our dining companions had steak tips and an Italian dish that was a special that day, both of which were good from the looks of their cleaned plates. My Greek salad (with dressing on the side) was full of fresh ingredients and topped with moist grilled chicken. Overall, we were very satisfied customers. recently had a solid lunch here. boyfriend and i were in the area, and i wanted to use the opportunity to go somewhere new for lunch. after doing my Yelp due diligence (thank you, fellow yelpers!) i settled upon this place. it did not disappoint. the restaurant is literally right off the highway, so it was very easy to access. the layout is a bit confusing- you actually come upon the back of the restaurant first, so pay attention to the "employee parking" signs and keep on driving. once inside we were promptly greeted by the hostess and seated without any wait. the look on the inside is blonde wood, and very handsome. think your typical chain restaurant but, well... not a chain, so the feel was a bit more authentic and less kitschy. featured over the bar is a real motorcycle, that gives the room a cool focal point. the menu is pretty straightforward, with a host of american bar & grill standards, and a few surprises scattered throughout. we started out with the fried pickles, a small order of poutine, and 1 "stuffie" (RI for stuffed clam). the pickles were excellent- they were super thin, and the batter was light, crisp, and not at all overwhelming. the ranch sauce could have used more zip, but it was okay. the poutine was very good and i recommend ordering the small size. it is a heavy dish and if you plan on taking down any of your actual entree, you'll want to have the small portion. the only comment my boyfriend had was that, traditionally, he is used to a beef gravy, and dan's version comes with a black pepper chicken gravy. i thought it was still very good. the flavor on the stuffie was celery-forward, though still tasty. i was a little disappointed in the amount of clam, and really had to hunt through the stuffing to find it. at $2.59/each, its a good amount of food for your buck, but not necessarily a good value, in my opinion. for entrees, my boyfriend got the fried buffalo chicken sandwich with fries, and i got the cubano with cole slaw. unlike other restaurants who serve you buffalo chicken tenders as a sandwich, this is a breaded and fried full chicken breast. i think that made it easier to eat, but it wasn't what my boyfriend was expecting. the flavor, though, was good, and he enjoyed that they automatically gave him the option of ranch vs. bleu cheese (since he's not a fan of bleu cheese). my cubano is one of the better i've had. pulled pork, ham, swiss, dijon, and pickles were all assembled on a ciabatta roll that was crisply pressed. the pork had great flavor, and the melted swiss and dijon formed the perfect glue to keep the whole sandwich together. the cole slaw was pretty average, but with a sprinkle or two of pepper, it hit the spot for me. the only real drawback we had was the service. our server was prompt, efficient, and got everything right, but- he never once told us his name, or smiled. additionally, there were several instances when he was asking us a question as he walked by our table... without stopping. i understand it was nearing the end of the lunch shift, and he could visibly be seen doing his side work, however- i'm still a paying customer, and deserve friendly attention. lastly- at 3:30pm on a saturday afternoon, my boyfriend and i did not enjoy the live music. while the musician was good, and had struck up a nice banter with some of the bar crowd, we found it nearly impossible to have a conversation. i'm not knocking live music, but i don't think it's appropriate in the afternoon. because this place is a drive for us, we won't become regular customers, but i would stop in again when we are in the area. read more

In looking for places for dinner between our route of Norton, MA. to Madison, CT - I turned to my fellow Yelpers who did not let me down. Friday night is typically busy and we expected a wait. When there was a high top open in the bar with three TV's showing sports I practically begged for the table; "sorry we have 30 minute wait but do you request the bar" - why Yes I replied not understanding how tables are open (and there were others) but other parties ahead waiting to be seated. My wife, a former server, informed me in her own special way just what an idiot I am. But in only 15 minutes we were lucky enough to get that table and when I requested they change from the golf channel to the NY Yankees - still well within the Red Sox Nation borders - they thankfully complied. A Moscow Mule and the wife got a blueberry lemonade - both good although the mule not served in the typical copper cup. Our waitress - Heather - was unbelievable good. Really personable and charming. I got a surf and turf with a sirloin cooked perfectly and two baked stuffed shrimp. I was thinking of just the baked stuffed shrimp for dinner but glad I didn't as they were a bit small and although tasty, served only as a compliment to the steak. Deb got the portabello burger - marinated in balsamic dressing with goat cheese and spinach - the flavors blended so well together. I tried a bite hoping it wouldn't start some vegetarian-carnivore war within my stomach. It was worth the risk. I'm so tempted to give the 5 star award - but one visit? Have always had great meals here but have to say this time we had the nachos and they were blah at best. We stopped in after a bike ride on Sunday for drinks and a bite to eat. The female waitress was extremely nice and provided great service. We ordered drinks and an appetizer or which came out quickly. We ordered nachos with ground beef and the twisted buffalo tenders. I have to say I am never had a bad meal here but was very disappointed with the nachos. They were blah with no taste, and all the fixings piled only in the middle on top with the surrounding chips having nothing on them. It was like a pile of nacho chips with a salad melt Patty on the top. I will say however we loved the twisted buffalo tenders which were perfectly seasoned and coated buffalo tenders with perfectly cooked spinach and melted cheese on top. I would definitely order them again in a second and would love to try the same combination as a sandwich which the waitress said they would definitely do for me next time. Dan of Dan's place is a hard-working local resident who put it all on the line to build his restaurant, and because of his hard work, great food, and knack for people, has been incredibly successful. I rarely drive-by and don't see a full parking lot of customers. The pizza, which is where Dan started out, has always been amazing, especially the Frank's barbecue chicken pizza. Went to this place for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Food was great service was amazing. The pizza here was some of the best I've had in such a long time. They have those cool pizza stands they put on the table and they give you a thing to lift the slices so you don't lose all the cheese. Had potato skins also they were really good. I wish this was closer to our house, but we will drive back to come here. We had lunch but it seems like it would be a fun atmosphere at night. read more

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the meal I had at Dan's last week. I met friends there for dinner over the weekend. Our waitress is great and didn't rush us even though the restaurant was pretty crowded. We had a variety of salads and sandwiches around the table and everyone was happy with their selection. The calamari caesar salad was a nice twist on a traditional salad. The calamari was not overcooked - something that is typically done in a casual restaurant like this. There was a band playing and this made it pretty difficult to hear each other. However, this did not ruin the evening. I would go to Dan's again. read more

BEST BURGERS IN RI. I order the Roadhouse Burger (a gigantic burger topped with pulled pork, fried onion strings, cheddar cheese, bbq sauce, and bacon) every time I come here. It is absolutely delicious. The pulled pork is perfect, the sauce is dynamite, and the burger is always fresh and served on a toasted, buttery bun. The only suggestion I would make is to make the actual burger patty smaller or flatten it out somehow. Other than that, this is the best burger I've ever had. My parents split the Grilled Cheese burger the last time we came here. They raved about how delicious and how ridiculously ginormous it was!! We have ordered the hog wings before and, despite the price, they are fantastic. You only get four of them, but they are heaven on a bone. The sauce is tantalizing and ugh, we couldn't get over how tasty they were. I have ordered eggplant parm to go in the past. The packaging is neat and keeps the food warm despite the long drive home, but I wasn't too fond of the spice choice. This is the only complaint I have for this restaurant (although my uncle has made it clear he will never order take out from Dan's again -- his pizza took two hours to make for some unknown reason and was delivered to him cold...and he only lives 5 minutes away. Beware if you order takeout. It appears to be hit or miss). Back to the good stuff: The desserts here are delicious as well...but they are extremely overpriced for the skimpy slices and portions you get. They were nice enough to package a dessert for me to take home (the sleeping Chicago bear) and made it a point to package it in the best way possible so I could have the best experience eating it at home (they packaged the ice cream in a separate container and made sure it was extra cold so it would last the ride home. Needless to say, the service is usually phenomenal). The servers here are friendly, personable, informative/knowledgable of the menu, and are more than willing to help you and give their personal opinions when you can't decide between the awesome choices on the menu. On one occasion, I believe we spoke to a manager covering for our waitress who's shift had just ended in the middle of our meal...and he was a bit dry personality-wise and refused to smile at anything...but he still managed to be pleasant enough. I highly enjoy this restaurant to the point where I am hoping to come here to celebrate my 21st birthday!! Keep up the good work!! read more

I have been going to Dan's for about a year and I have nothing but praise for this establishment. They have excellent food with matching prices. They have live music and a good crowd. I travel a lot and this place is an absolute gem! The staff is super friendly! Nice and clean with a good selection of adult beverages. We sat at the bar and had a Bourbon burger and a Stuffed bacon cheddar burger. I ordered the Bourbon medium rare and it came well done. It was still juicy so I ate it and was content with the flavor. The bacon cheddar burger was stuffed inside and melted to gooey perfection. The bourbon sauce also was nice to dip the FF in. The band played a nice selection of pop music, but for a 9 pm start time they were considerably late starting at 9:45. (No reflection on Dan's Place.). However we were quite entertained by Joe the bartender and his whimsical karaoke while the band played, even though he was working and never picked up a microphone. He was funny and we enjoyed talking to him! (Joe, stop being a scaredy and pick up the ! You have a good voice!). All in all, I'd go out of the way to enjoy another evening at this place for food and entertainment. read more

Used to be a good meal at a good value...well not anymore. We have had several good meals in the past at this restaurant (one of the only eateries in West Greenwich, RI.) This evening, we could not have had a worse experience. If you like cold, over priced small amounts of food served to you by people who cannot answer one question about a menu entree, never mind tell you what the evening specials are, then Dan's Place (or Big Dan's as I now affectionately refer to it) is your kind of place. When we asked the server if they recently hired a new chef, she proudly replied "why yes we did" After we mentioned our concerns to her, she sent Big Dan himself our to the "dining room" where he grumbled "What's the Problem?" He explained that the chicken quesadilla was cold beause the chef sliced the chicken too think. Any by the way, he denied they hired a new chef recently after the server had already confirmed the contrary. Lie #1, Lie #2, the salmon entree which was dry and over cooked and no larger than a deck of playing cards, was "the same ounces as always." After ordering this entree a couple of times in the past, I knew it was barely half the size as usual. Then Big Dad just walked away from the table without as much as an I am so sorry you had a bad experience, please do try us again.... You can't screw up both entrees with cold, bland, small protions of food and expect us to come back for more. We may be glutens but not for punishment, only for good food at a good value. Consider us having moved on from Dan's Place. You should too. read more

This place is great, the atmosphere, the food and the people make this an all around great place to eat and relax with family and friends. I have been enjoying Dan's for about two years now and this is my first and only review...it is only for the lack of tack that Roberta P. that I chime in, if you have a bad experience somewhere then fine but to disrespectfully hang someones reputation out to dry like this is utterly unacceptable. In my opinion you are the rude one here and you should be ashamed and embarrased for yourself. There are many reasons I go back here to eat and the largest one is Doug!, he is fast, knowledgeable, curtious, respectful, and above all he treats us like family, I know my family and I are not the only Doug supporters that go here, we personally know of at least 10 other families that only go when he is working. He is bar none the best server we have ever encountered and we moved here from NY City.In fact Dan should have 5 more Dougs employeed there, he is the type of person that will do what it takes so that you have a great time and experience....I urge any reader to try Dan's Place, it is excellent, ask for Doug I can promise you wont be disappointed. read more
