Celestial Café absolutely lived up to the hype. My friend and I stopped in between lunch and dinner so it was nice and quiet, which made for such a relaxed visit. Everyone was friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. We shared the smoked pork nachos to start and wow... so flavorful. The side of cool ranch was such a delicious bonus. I ordered the gluten free fish and chips and honestly could not stop eating the fries. Perfectly salty with just the right amount of sriracha on top. So good. My friend ordered the chicken parm grinder which looked incredible and disappeared quickly. I was so full and enjoyed my delicious cocktail while my friend ordered the chocolate chip banana foster (with 2 spoons). I honestly could have drank the banana rum ice cream sauce. Celestial cafe offers a fun and creative menu. The space is a mix of modern with some dark wood and other paint color style. Staff were friendly in the sense of giving service to ones neighbor, as it feels like the high end local spot. Food was definitely creative. Listed as "new American" but had a strong showing of Asian fusion. Food was good but can be considered salty for some. The smoked pork noodles was heavy and had a high level of spice in part of the dish, would recommend to mix it well to evenly distribute. The eclipse had a lot going on, with some ingredients getting lost in the shuffle, but did overall enjoy it. read more

We stumbled upon this excellent restaurant while exploring the area during a beach weekend. It's very unassuming on the outside, but the reviews and the photos online convinced us to give it a shot... We were blown away! The staff was very welcoming and service was warm and friendly. The food was truly impressive. We had a (fantastic) calamari appetizer, drinks, and my wife ordered a Pork Milanese I ordered the short rib. The entrées were truly excellent... Presented well, tasted delicious, and made me want to come back and try other dishes on the menu. The chef came out and visited each table to ask how they liked their dinner, which was a nice touch. Went for Mother's Day and they had a set menu. The breakfast potatoes were some of the best I've ever had! Everyone really liked the hash skillet too. They did an excellent job of accommodating the gluten-free members of our group. They are knowledgeable about celiac and most of their items were already gluten free. So many sounded interesting and delicious, including the calamari, eclipse, Thai cod, eggplant tower. We settled on the BBQ ribs and the fish and chips. Both were very good - the fish and pork were tender and accompanied by a generous portion of fries or mashed potatoes. The pickled apple slaw, served with both dishes, was very vinegary and contrasts the richness of the fried fish and pork. My only criticism of the ribs was the "seasonal vegetable," which was literally one skinny strand of broccolini. Their portions are generally ample, so the skimpiness of the greens was disappointing. The dining room is super cute. You can go casual or dress it up for a nice evening out. We tried the Brussels sprouts appetizer, and it was amazing. Don't sleep on that pork belly. I had the veal parm sandwich for my meal. The fries were perrrfect. The sandwich was ok. Tasty, but the veal was very chewy and hard to eat. Service was super friendly and attentive. This might be the single most underrated restaurant in south county. The chef/owner, Brandon, is old school and makes it a point to ask every single table how their meal was. They're very sensitive to allergies (my kids have some), the servers are always so friendly and attentive, and the food is sourced locally as much as possible (I'd say vast majority of it is). Their very sensitive restaurant itself is in a plaza (meh) and the decor is fine at best, but it still feels inviting and like a place we'd want to frequent. Been coming here for years! If you're on vacation, Exeter is a little bit more out of the way but it's definitely worth the trip. read more

I've had dinner here many times and always a delight. This morning went for brunch and it was phenomenal i had the special Benedict with the ri county mushrooms and the flavor was out of this world. They had just opened up so it was a bit cold but quickly warmed up. The bathrooms are so clean and the staff are so attentive and helpful. Another thing i really enjoy is the chef coming out to check on all the tables he even did it during brunch. They have a seasonal menu and always use fresh ingredients. This place has been right under my nose for so long and I had no idea! Came in recently for a solo lunch. It's a decently sized room and a separate bar area. I picked a sunny table next to the windows. Got to try a vegan sweet potato enchilada and the Thai peanut noodles. Everything was delicious...perfect flavors. They have a nice drink list, and I love the local options (got a Whalers seltzer). Service was very good and the chef even came out at one point to thank me for coming in. Best fish and chips in the area!! My go to used to be Fish in Jamestown when they were open. Typically I can't finish this dish at other restaurants with their heavy, greasy batter and thick cuts of fish. Theirs is light and delicious and I didn't leave any fish on my plate. The food here was very tasty. My son and I arrived at 1pm, there was a private event in one area but no wait to be seated in the cedar Cafe room. The staff was attentive, friendly, and helpful. We ordered all at once because we had an event to go to. I wanted to get the smoked pork tacos but my son wanted to get the citrus pesto calamari. So we got the calamari ;) I'm glad we did because it was great! I've never had a calamari dish like this, everything complimented each other so well. There was a lot of tentacles vs rings, but I was brave and ate those too. My son got the spicy chicken and pork belly ramen. It wasn't too too spicy. The broth has a nice flavor to it. It was almost hearty, it had so much cabbage, carrots, tamari, greens, pea pods, etc in it. Then of course the star of the show, noodles and the meat. It was good, however, I can see him trying something else on this menu next time. There are many yummy looking options. I got the korean BBQ chicken, which I don't see on their online menu but it is on the physical one in the restaurant. My food was good as well. BBQ chicken cooked so tender, on bone. Over a pile of white rice and a sauce. It was a good meal, however I too would try something else next time. In all the calamari was excellent and I highly recommend it. Unfortunately celestial cafe is rather expensive. Between the 2 of us including tip I spent 100$ there so it will have to be for special occasions only! read more

I have had some of the best food of my life at Celestial Cafe. The wait staff is wonderful and the food is fresh, quality and the recipe's are adventurous. I can't wait to go back. New to Rhode Island, I decided to purchase RI Food Fights Veg Out Coupon Book to encourage myself to venture out to new places. Whenever I go to any of the locations in the booklet, I purchase something else in the restaurant to support the place. Tonight, I visited Celestial Cafe and ordered gelato and an iced coffee in addition to redeeming the coupon for an eggplant appetizer. All of the food was delicious! The service, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. I was asked at least 4 times if I wanted to order anything else. I am not sure that I would make the trek back out to this place. read more

I read all the other reviews and unfortunately I disagree with most of them. This was ALWAYS a favorite "go to" since it opened however, the last year or so has been one disappointing visit after another. I think they must have a new chef who can't replicate the quality of the past chef. The chicken eclipse was always my favorite but the last THREE times I ordered it were all a big disappointment. The most recent being the last time as it was worse than ever. it was hopelessly greasy, so much so I placed my napkin under one side of the plate to drain some of those grease away from the food. it was nothing but a disappointing pile of sloppy grease. My friend ordered the veal parmesan and it was served in a pool of oily sauce and he noted the veal was not very good and rather chewy. The sweet potato wontons are nothing compared to what they once were, same goes for the calamari. I would strongly suggest they get the former chef back or change the menu to accommodate the new chefs specialties as they are not the same as the former chefs ! We won't be back unless we here there is a new menu or a different chef ! When you're spending over $100 bucks for two people, it best be good and the last 3-4 times over the last year or so it has not been good at all. Goodbye Celestial, we'll miss you....... read more

If you love farm fresh food, make it a point to visit! We come here often with our favorite dishes being the ramen (spicy AF and perfect) and the flatbread pizzas. We also try to attend their monthly Farm Dinners which are 100% local (a lot of the regular menu is as well). It's nice these days to know exactly who and how your food is farmed. A friend who joins us alot is Celiac and enjoys the fact that they've got quite a few GF options. We also enjoy their Sunday Brunch when we can... ummmm do NOT sleep on the eggs benedict...it's amazing!! I get mine with tomatoes, prosciutto & greens (spinach is the best, not in love with chard but as long as I stick to the leafy parts it's delish!) I usually get the Spicy Bloody Mary with my brunch too and it's got just enough zing PLUS an actual jalapeño in it. So gooood. We recently learned that the Executive Chef is also the owner which is so cool... he makes it a point to come by to check on each table showing that he actually cares...that we're not just a table number with a credit card. It's things like this that make a restaurant stand out. This place seems a bit off the beaten path but it's R.I. so is anything really that far away lol?? They do NOT pick up the phone !!!??? It either rings and rings or it's busy. No recording sayin that they are not taking reservations or take-out orders. It is soooooooooo frustrating! UPDATE They were def having trouble with their phone service. I walked in to place our order order and the phone was ringing. I called from inside the restaurant and it rang. The hostess did say someone had just called to complain that they couldn't get through. The food is excellent. Like other restaurants they are sometimes short staffed. It smelled like someone had been chain smoking in there for years. My clothes smelled so bad I couldn't stand it. First served some sort of tasty tart...It was ok--like a breakfast danish. Then a frittata-abysmal. Bland, dry. Roasted potatoes, -decent. Pork belly with beans...Chicken marsala that was just ok. These were served family style--as much as you liked. The finish was an individual "lava cake" that was ...just ok. Our guest insisted on splitting the bill down the middle which tagged us each for just under $100...That's ludicrous. (For example--just think what $200 would get you at Twin Oaks or similar restaurants.) This priciness is also extended to their weekly dinner menu--this is not an inexpensive restaurant. I can't believe I only gave this absolute gem of a place a 3-star review when I first reviewed it over 17 years ago. My husband and I have since been back many, many times--we even elected to have our wedding dinner there in 2013. Celestial Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants in Rhode Island! The restaurant is perfect for a date night, family, or hanging with friends. The lights are dim and the music is loud enough to enjoy and hear your companions. The food is fresh, farm to table cuisine. My go-to is the Eggplant Tower. It's a vegetarian dish of ravioli and fried eggplant made into a tower. There's a sauce with it that just completes me. And the baby rack ribs, oh my gosh. It's big enough for two people! It's fall off the bone tender. A special monthly series they do is the local farm dinner. Once a month from Thursday to Sunday, there is a special five course dinner using local produce, meats, etc. It's different each month and it's a great way to try new dishes. I love it each month and I totally recommend everyone to do it! The main entree can be made vegetarian, as well. Their menu includes many options, and they cater to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. This is a must visit restaurant! read more
