We came here to celebrate a birthday/Mother's Day and it was a nice ambiance. The wait staff is superb because they pay personal attention to each patrons request and special dish requests. They have a lot of varieties of classic dishes. They should have served Italian bread with the meal but they initially served dry garlic knots and sliced rye bread. Being a Brooklyn native, this was a bit different for an Italian place not to serve Italian bread. Also it's BYOB which is also trending but they should get their license so they can serve to the customers who don't want to haul bottles with them for a get together. A BYOB Italian place that has been in Leonia forever !!!! We have frequented this place so many times and because it feels very local and cozy, we did not even think of reviewing the food here. A quiet family restaurant, with a reasonable portion - not the regular Italian family style - affordable price. We had eggplant rollatini and misses in red sauce for appetizers. Eggplant rollatini is always a must, but slightly smaller portion now. The mussels were soooooo small!! Tiny !!!! But we loved the tomato sauce of course, dipping the garlic knits they serve. Chicken marsala is still consistently good with good amount of mushrooms. The linguini in white wine clam sauce was a bit disappointing....just no flavor. Very bland. Great food and cute restaurant! I came here for a baptism and everything from appetizers to dinner was delicious. I was able to try multiple menu items and was very pleased with all that was served. Clam orgenata, calamari and stuffed mushrooms were appetizing. They also served eggplant rigatoni, but was unable to eat due to allergies. For entree we had family style option of chicken francese, steak and/ or filet of sole. Chicken Francese was my favorite. So, me and my girlfriend were bike riding from Morristown and she wanted pasta, we found this place and decided to give it a try. First impression, we should have left. The look we got from the host was terrible. As he sat us down, he didn't look back at us to give us any type of acknowledgement, ask us if it's our first time, or even just a hope you enjoy your dinner... maybe I'm asking too much? Next, my girlfriend noticed eye at us constantly, me minding my business, I did not notice until I started looking around. And wow. A gentleman sitting across from me was watching me like a damn television. Another woman at a different table could not bare to look AWAY from us. The waiter we had was pleasant, and the food was ok. I've been here numerous times with my family. Most recently we went with a large group of people on Easter Sunday. The food was delicious, as always, and the waiters were also very attentive and helpful. We enjoyed a few appetizers, calamari and stuffed clams. I ordered the lamb shank as it was easter. I placed an order to be delivered by UberEats. It took 1 hour and a half cause there was a flood and a storm in my town. Buuuut it was worth it !!! I did Chicken Cosenza, Vodka sauce spaghetti; a Tiramisu at the end. The chicken was amazing and I think the next time I will combine it with oil and garlic Pasta; because I think vodka sauce don't get well with that kind of chicken; it was my decision. My team was in the area for a regatta, and we got a reservation at Dante's Place for dinner. We had a private room to ourselves, which was really nice. I got a vegetable pasta, and it was okay. There was a lot of oily liquid in the bottom of the bowl, as well as an absurd amount of garlic in the dish. Some of my other teammates got the chicken parm, and the portion size was massive! My father lives down the road from this restaurant and we have gotten pizza to go many many times and it is always excellent. A few weeks ago we took my father's to Dante's for his birthday and the experience was exceptional. The menu was very vast, the portion sizes and food quality are great and the prices are also excellent. The service is impeccable, the servers are very friendly and it is also BYOB which is nice. We haven't tried much else since our first two selections have been SO good. This place gets chatted up a lot locally (in a town without a lot of options for eating out), but it is really not worth the time. The food is unremarkable and the service is so-so. The space is small and there are just not many alternatives in town unless you're in the mood for Korean food or a pricey dinner at the expensive (but wonderful) Fontana do Trevi a couple of blocks away, so this place can seem crowded at times, but it would totally tank in neighboring Englewood or Fort Lee. One more decent American or Italian food option in town would put it out of business in a year, and good riddance. Food is basic and takes FOREVER to come out. My pasta was soggy and the sauce highly acidic... barely edible. My dinner companion had a steak which was burned one one side but raw in the middle (despite requesting medium). Do yourself the favor and splurge on the other option in town, or drive up to another town for far superior options. read more

I came here Friday night after being told that Fontana di Trevi was fully booked for the night (also in Leonia). I hadn't set foot in Dante's since I was a kid (lots of memories of Dante's pizza growing up) and I was pleasantly surprised with the entire experience. The interiors haven't changed much over the years, but the day to night-time atmosphere is completely different. During the day it might appear just as your grab and go pizza joint, but at night it's a very nice sit-down family restaurant (read: adult family....BYOB!). The tables were maybe half-full....? So no worries about wait time. We brought our own wine, and ordered the zucchini sticks, zuppa di mussels, tri-color salad, and veal scampi (one of the specials). Overall, nothing was *mind-blowing* but definitely a lot better than I expected (again, I remember this place as a pizza joint). Zucchini sticks were piping hot, mussels were a bit small but sauce was extremely savory (dip in your complimentary bread/garlic knots), tri-color salad was actually VERY good--fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the veal scampi was the perfect homey entree. Note: for two people, we had quite a bit of leftovers. Also, shout out to the servers--great attitude, always checking in on us, never pushy--even shook our hands at the end of the meal, which is a first for me.
