My boyfriend and I had reservations at Bridges and ended up getting to Danville earlier than anticipated. So that left us some time to kill. We walked around the area and stumbled across Danville Chocolates. Who could resist going inside such a cute little chocolate shop?! I love that it has a very local vibe to it (much like all of Danville). We initially went in just to look around. Given we were there the night of the annual Tree Lighting, there were Christmas decorations and treats everywhere inside the shop. My mouth was watering looking at the assortment of chocolates, fudge, apples, etc. I told my boyfriend we'd have to come back after dinner! We did end up returning and it was much more crowded the second time! It was so crowded, we kept being asked by the workers if we were ready to check out. It was a tad overwhelming because there was no where else to stand. (The pressured feeling of needing to check out is what makes them lose a star for me). So my boyfriend and I made some rushed decisions, selecting some chocolates and other sweets and checking out. The chocolates are very good and you can tell they are made with quality ingredients. My sister-in-law surprised me with a bag of birthday gifts. One of the gifts in the bag was a beautiful salted caramel chocolate apple from Danville Chocolates. Pleasant staff, good service. But the presence of a tip jar suggests staff is underpaid. (It's obnoxious to find tip jars EVERYWHERE.) Further, in typical diabetes-prone American style, the chocolate makers use way too much sugar in their products. They were sickeningly sweet, and a disappointment to pay so much for the only flavor take-away--SUGAR. But if you like sugar, and LOTS of it, this is your place. I feel if there is the taste of too much sugar, you don't know about subtlety or how, really, to make quality chocolates. Sugar just masks inexperience (kind of like popcorn ceilings in a house). I feel mean leaving this review (not my intent). I'm just expressing my honest opinion. I do think the store looks great, and those working there were on the ball. read more

What a cute little shop in a cute little town. I'm glad I decided to visit this place! One of my coworkers told me they had chocolate turtles to die for, and I would help out my coworker by picking them up some. Of course I too would get a hefty box of chocolate and other delights while I was there. Their chocolate is rich, smooth, and absolutely decadent! They have a lot of interesting treats too, in which they have for their chocolates. Of course you have your classics sweets, but they have chocolate covered oreos, nutter butters, pecans, etc, which were all great! I do give my absolute highest regards to their turtles, next time I'll probably get a couple of pounds of those and call it a trip. I went here right before Easter weekend and bought some Chocolates for the Family. I saw a short line outside and waited patiently since they only let 5 peeps at a time anode the small space. I had only bought a few items but it was worth the wait. I had purchased Milk and Dark Chocolate haystacks ( chocolate covered coconut) candies. We went in on a Saturday evening and bought the dark chocolate almond bark, milk chocolate cashew grizzly and the cookies and cream bark. All the items were delicious, with the dark chocolate almond bark being a personal favorite of mine. Taking off one star because the staff member helping us was extremely rude and kept asking us if we were ready every 5 seconds. This would've made sense if it was crowded but the store was empty, save for one other family. She even rolled her eyes when we told her we needed a little more time to decide. In the end, my partner and I made some rushed decisions to buy the very random assortment of chocolate I mentioned earlier because we felt unwelcome to look any longer. I would definitely recommend the store for the chocolate and the beautiful ambiance but the problem I've mentioned with the service does not seem to be unique to only our experience and I hope it's something that'll get tackled on the future. read more

Talk about chocolatey goodness! At first glance, you think, "damn what do I want?" Well, here you've got plenty to choose from. You can get candy, fancy popcorn, truffles, sea salt caramels, dipped fruits, dipped marshmellows, rainbow ice cream, peanut butter cups, a chocolate cover banana ($1 off with Check-in), and much much more! I agree with Katryn C. on getting a caramel apple. The apple was huge and delicious; not overly sour. Just right! We had the white chocolate, brown sugar, cinnamon, and it was sooo mmm mmm good!!! It was especially a nice little treat after eating at Sideboard. We even tried the White Chocolate Cashew Grizzley which to me was hit! Probably anything here with 'grizzly' or 'cluster' is a fan favorite. As for the truffles, we had more than a few. They were good, but none made my all-time favorite. Another decent piece was the Almond Toffee Roca. Good, but compared to Rachel Dunn Chocolates Almond Roca, maaan, her's blows it out of the park!!! The place was clean, and the service was good. The caramel apples are ginormous. For $7 it's definitely pricey, but hey, gotta treat yourself to one. So I started to eat the one I got. It took me maybe 4 bites until I finally got to the apple part. The mixed nuts seem to be roasted and salted. It all goes well together, just so darn heavy and hefty, I don't think I'll be able to finish this all! Definitely shareable, but....why share when you can have one all to yourself! On site I got to sample the raspberry yogurt bark. It was to die for. I will definitely go back later this week to get a couple pieces. Place is cute and has ice cream. I think I might get some gummy bears too and ask them to dip it in white chocolate. Hello Polar Bears! One thing I did want was to be able to get a mocha, but it's fine. Yes they have lots of chocolate candy on display. Unlike See's, they also offer varieties of caramel/chocolate coated apples, frozen bananas, ice cream, and yes pre-made ice cream sandwiches. The last item is the subject of my review. The ice cream sandwiches are $3.50 each, and are pre-made (i.e. flavors available vary, so ask). It was a hot day and a rough week so I ordered a Cappuccino Crunch Sammie. When my order came, I immediately thought of the theater scene from the movie, Trainwreck. It looks and tastes like an It's It's sandwich on steroids! (if Mark Wahlberg ate Mark Wahlberg; an It's It can eat another It's It). The entire outside was totally dipped in a thick chocolate shell. It was very good - I recommend eating it small bites. It could easily feed two people. It was my day off of work, so I'll share one with the wife next time. 5-stars! read more

One word....Dangerous(ly)....Delicious! WoW where do I start, the truffles....the turtles...or one of those Cheesecake wedges dipped in Chocolate (haven't tried one of those yet). Or wait!?! Those insane Carmel/Candy Apples....Covered/Smothered in goodies galore! Oh geez hold me back.... It took my husband and I about a half an hour one evening trying to decide which truffles to buy...two of those, three of these kind of thing.... The Dulce DE Leche...were Perfection! And well the other little balls of chocolate bliss weren't so bad either. Oh and I had bought a piece of "Avalanche Bark" a peanut butterish flavor chocolate square filled with marshmallows. chocolate chips, and chunks of white chocolate and something crispy too...I could only eat small pieces it was so rich and sweet...but heavenly...Ooh La La! Been back to get a assortment box (1lb.) $20 of mixed variety, looks so pretty and makes a nice local gift to give at the holidays. The place was filled with customers, so I'd say they looked to be doing a brisk business. The first night we dropped by they were dipping the cheesecakes in the dark chocolate so they do all their own dipping strawberries, apples, cheesecakes, bananas in the store. Chocolate doesn't get better ... tasting. Better looking? Sure. So what's that mean? Simply this. There are two kinds of great chocolate shops (okay, maybe more, but I'm gonna concentrate on two). Ones that hand craft pure dark and milk chocolate deliciousness and smoosh it together with other forms of deliciousosity - like sea salt, caramel, nuts, and so forth and so on. This is Danville Chocolates. And ones that create individual art objects. Finely crafted jewels of chocolates or colored sculptural forms of chocolate and flavors. The thing is, the beautiful art pieces tend to taste good but not ... great. Whereas the solid hits of choooocolate that DC makes create a rumba of smiles in my mouth. It is also true that EVERYONE we give these chocolates to goes bananas over them. And, speaking of bananas, DC makes a variety of frozen chocolate dipped bananas. And candy apples as well. Many types. Pretty and pretty delicious. Ice cream as well, although they don't make it - it's Double Rainbow. Still ... tastes pretty good! Here's a fun activity.
