Stopped by today, while visiting Murphy's Paw. I am trying to spend all my Christmas dollars locally. It's a cute little shop, a bit difficult to maneuver while avoiding people (but not impossible). I'm excited to see that Santa will be stuffing stockings with high quality, locally made candies!!! Shop local! This store is always beautifully decorated, but I especially love it during the holidays. Every corner is filled with holiday decor, gifts and treats. I've been coming here for years for the house made chocolate treats. My boys and I love their chocolate caramels, chocolate covered marshmallows and truffles!! I called Kayla with only two days notice to see if she could make some book shaped chocolates for my book club. She felt badly that she didn't have a book mold but said she could get creative. So, I sent her a list of 12 of the books we'd read and she made these!!! They turned out so great and the chocolate is delicious. She was easy to work with and I would highly recommend. Cute little candy shop. I came here because a friend of mine was raving for about these little sour hearts that only comes out once a year (Valentine's Day), so I went to check it out. They are just ok, nothing special. K thought they would be better and made from the shops but I found out they're just jelly belly brand. The shop overall, is adorable. I've been here twice now and love it!! BEAUTIFUL unique dainty and well priced items. Why I love this store even more: I bought a few absolutely beautiful dishes from here. Unfortunately when I left, someone bumped me and I fell and my dishes broke! I just thought "perhaps I could exchange one of them" and when I returned the the owner, Kayla, was so nice about it! Without a question she told me to grab another and was so kind to me. Shes a genuinely nice person and cared to make sure I was okay. Quality items and a quality person! Cute little store with so many treats to choose from - Jam's, Candies, Chocolate, Tea's, Baking supplies and they have little sapling stations throughout the store of some some the items they have for sale. My only gripe is that I never see many local item's, a lot seem to be shipped from other States. Prices are reasonable and this would be a great place to pick up gifts for the Holiday's. read more

We drove to Pleasanton just to try these handmade candies and chocolates, Wow!!!! What a treat!!! The site is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful with incredible inventory, it's not only candy and sweets there is a massive inventory of kitchen goodies and exceptional wood merchandise. There was a young lady who provided such welcoming and helpful service this place gets A+ on customer service, she was patient and professional with such kindness. You will get lost in this Candy heaven place!!! The toffee is the best I have ever had either West Coast or East Coast. I bought camels covered in dark chocolate with sea salt !!!! Amazing!! However I bought dark chocolate covered toffee with nuts and let me tell you!!! You have not had toffee until you have this homemade classic made by the owner!!!! If you are close by, this is a must visit!!! You will visit want to buy everything plus great parking, Check out all my photos this is a gem in Pleasanton, it's off a Main Street with back parking and front parking, after coming here visit all of the great stores on the same street, we stay in this area four hours had a blast!!!! Love their chocolate! It is really hard to find good quality chocolate in the area and we are so glad that we stumbled upon Gourmet Works. We immensely love and respect that they DON'T use palm oil in their chocolate. After we learned what the palm oil industry has been doing to orangutans and the environment, we always ask chocolate shops if they utilize palm oil in their products. Gourmet Works is the only shop in the area that respects nature and saves orangutans. If any of you patrons know the story of orangutans and the palm oil industry, and you are looking for a place that doesn't use palm oil, this is the place. read more

Love this little spot. Great jams, chocolates, and other little things to snack on. Bought a large peanut butter cup yesterday and it was fantastic. If you like chocolates with a small down type of vibe, it's going to be really hard to top this place. It's been here for years and for a very good reason. Also, you get a free sample of their jam when you come in and they have a huge assortment. Also, their honey is great. Heavily disappointed. I came here thinking there were going to be delightful chocolate confections. But when I got here it was like a knickknack "gourmet" food and trinket for the front half of the shop. Then in the back is their chocolate display case and register. I thought the front half of the store was kinda interesting but just felt like I was in a Pier 1 or home goods store. Then when we got to the back half I felt weird because the lights were not on which I assume was being it was hot that day and they did not want the chocolate to melt?? Well they did not have a lot going on chocolate wise. It felt like a sad children's bake sale. There were a few chocolates I guess bon bons, chocolate covered pretzel sticks and chocolate marshmallows. The case was manned by two very bored and shocked to see customers asking questions employees. Also I do not think they knew what was in the case because I asked for the grand marnier and there was literally a giant question mark above her head. So I just had to point. Not a large selection so I just got the one chocolate and my son wanted the chocolate pretzels. It was weird the cashier asked if I wanted a bag and it was like "No I want to hold chocolate in my warm hand to melt all over the place." The chocolate was not that great and my son did not like the chocolate pretzels. Located in the busy downtown area. Street parking but there is always parking. Walking around the area is nice. Customer service is awful at best. Nice place to waste time and money. I can get exceptionally better chocolate from the grocery store. Overpriced for the quality. read more

Everything I have purchased here has been delicious and well-received by the recipients. I have our purchased only their chocolate covered items, so I can't comments on their other wares. They came through on Valentine's Day with massive strawberries covered in decadent dark, white and milk chocolate. I preordered a few days ahead and everything was ready when I arrived. I have also purchased the chocolate covered Rice Krispies, Oreos, graham crackers and pretzels. Of the items I was able to sample, they were outstanding. I've resisted the urge to stop in and get a few things for myself lest I eat myself into a chocolate coma stupor. The staff has always been friendly and fast. After eating ice cream at a nearby store, I vaguely remember seeing this place on Yelp. Since one of my co-workers is having a birthday soon, I decided to drop by and check out the store. Everything is organized according to what they were. The store is small but very clean and modern. I ended up purchasing a dark chocolate sea salt caramel, blood orange vinaigrette, fish & vegetable seasoning and a cupcake liner. I used to love to store it still makes the best dark chocolate around. I gave her the benefit of the doubt through Covid however, either before the pandemic or after they still have the same issues. They don't open up on time. I've made multiple trips to the store during normal business hours just to find the doors locked and the lights out. They don't keep to stock up. It's a real shame. I don't want to get bashed on for giving a one-star review of this place amidst the positive reviews, so let me say this first: I am rating Gourmet Works based on their CUSTOMER SERVICE, not on their quality of chocolate and other goods. Gourmet Works' Chocolate: Fantastic. Gourmet Works' Customer Service: The worst service experience I've ever had. Situation: This business specializes in producing personalized molded chocolates. For my graduation party, I ordered a large batch of 3 types of molded chocolates. Within the order, I wanted flower-mold chocolates with blue-colored centers. I recited my order to the store owner (Kathy), who wrote down the order on an invoice sheet, and I specifically told her that I wanted a blue-colored center for the flower chocolates. I went to pick up my order the next week, and was mad and frustrated to discover that the flower chocolates had white centers instead of blue centers. I complained to the store worker, but she said that the owner was out of town at the time and there was nothing that they could do right then, and suggested that I call Kathy the following Monday. With my party being the next day and not having any other options for guest gifts, I unhappily took the chocolates home. I wanted to get some type of refund or an apology at the very least for the mistake, and so I called Gourmet Works the following Monday. I left a message for Kathy with another employee, and informed them of the mistake, and requested a refund for the batch of flower chocolates. For the entire week, Kathy never called me back, so I called again on Friday and was finally able to get ahold of her. And here's where it gets interesting...or should I say maddening? In a calm voice, I told Kathy of the mistake her shop had made in making the wrong-colored chocolates. Kathy immediately became defensive and said "I'm not giving you the refund because you took the whole order. I can't believe you're asking for a refund." After I reinstated the fact that we did point out the mistake during the time of pick-up and looked at the invoice Kathy had written and saw that she did not even write down that we requested a blue-colored flower, Kathy said "Your order was very confusing and you kept on changing your mind. There's nothing wrong with white color for the flower centers...why are you getting traumatized by this?" I said, "We never changed the color of the flower. We chose blue all along because those are our school colors. We came to your store to get things personalized, and that's not what we got. I don't feel like I should pay for something that I didn't want, and that's the reason why I'm asking for a refund." After a long and maddening phone conversation, I was unable to receive a refund. Kathy did apologize at the very end of our conversation, but the fact that she initially asked me if I was "traumatized" by having the wrong color flower, and refused to admit that she had made a mistake shows a lot about how much she cares about her customers. I was more traumatized by her bad attitude and lack of good business sense rather than by the initial mistake. Sorry for the long review, but I really think that the owner of Gourmet Works really needs to reconsider the way that she runs her business. I paid her with the understanding that they specialized in personalized goods and would satisfactorily fulfill my order. However, doing business with Gourmet Works just made me unsatisfied and frustrated that I had to pay for chocolates that I did not want. Lesson learned: In the end, it's not just about making money, but about being a good business owner and running your business in a way to keep your customers coming back - because god knows, I'm definitely not going back to Gourmet Works. read more

On a subsequent visit I tried the dark chocolate bark with nuts, chocolate covered honeycomb, and the chocolate toffee...OMG, I couldn't stop eating them! I can't wait to return and try more. Came here for Easter candy...they have a wonderful selection of beautiful and tasty candy for the discerning basket builder. I was very pleased with my selections...perfect. Many of the items they sell could also be found in places like Williams Sonoma and Sur La Table but I think the price point on many of the items were a bit lower than the known chains. In fact, posting a review this close to midnight was a bad idea; any potential midnight snack will pale in comparison to the chocolate-covered strawberry or dark chocolate honey-comb I really CRAVE from Gourmet Works. I have been going to this shop for about 10 years now. All I can say is WOW! They make the best peanut butter cups (Reese's ain't got nothing on them!), turtles, and chocolate covered strawberries too. Truffles, check. Divinity, check. And they also have some cool gifts and novelty items for the baker/cook. I usually find myself tasting the mustards, jellies, and sauces they have along the left wall...they always have samples with some crackers or cookies. And, the staff are friendly and helpful. Wow. I am amazed by the customer service of this shop. I last minute ordered Mother's Day chocolates around 12pm less than 24hours before I needed them. I ordered online and was awaiting for an email for curbside pickup (due to the virus). It was around 6pm and still no email (I figured I'd just pickup in the morning, no big deal). Around 6pm someone knocked on my door and HAND DELIVERED my order to me. How amazingly kind and sweet these owners are to make sure I received my order in time for Mother's Day.
