Excellent lunch menu. I had the Kung Pao Chicken, no nuts and my MIL had the Sweet and Sour Pork and my son had the Chicken Lo Mein. I tasted his and our two dishes were tastier in my opinion. Next time I will get him the Teriyaki Chicken. The crab puffs are delicious! Sesame Inn was closed for an emergency and I really needed my craving satisfied so, after hunting on Yelp I rediscovered Dao. Found this gem last night when looking for dinner, very hard to find restaurants up here that close a little past 9:00 pm. The service was great very friendly. Although we didn't stay to eat the environment was very welcoming decor is also beautiful. They made our meal really quickly and more importantly very delicious! We went there and we were hopeful it would be good because we love Chinese food. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. My husband ordered beef with broccoli and I ordered orange chicken. The sauce on the beef was not good. He ate a few bites. I tasted it because he wanted to see what I thought and it was not good. I was able to swallow it. My orange chicken was so bad I had to spit it out. The flavor was awful and the chicken was like tripe. The people who worked there seemed nice, so we tipped well and took our food in to-go containers (and threw them in the garbage at Fry's when we went to get something else to have for dinner.) Dao Kitchen Asian Bistro had been recommended as one of the better, if not best, Chinese-American cuisine in the Phoenix area. Unfortunately, the food does NOT measure up to the hype. The Hot & Sour soup was oddly sweet without the characteristic sour flavors. The Kung pao chicken also had a sweetness likely due to pineapple juice. Odd flavor for that dish. The fried wontons contained cream cheese rather than the advertised chicken filling. Overall, the food was disappointing. We usually just do take out from the place and have not dined in. Everything that we have had is pretty nice and is our go to when we crave asian food. You cannot go wrong with their Mongolian Beef and Veg Fried Rice with Fried Tofu. Their won ton and hot and sour soups are very comforting too. The ambiance feels nice and we may come to dine in some day. I also disagree with the first reviewer. After seeing that Suzanne C wrote a nice review my husband and I decided to give TKAB#2 a try. Being that we live just down the street from them (and I couldn't find the phone #: here it 623.516.8886, plus the website for the menu www.tao-kitchen.com)...I drove down there to get some take-out. I asked the waitress what she suggested and she said the garlic eggplant and orange chicken. I went with her suggestion with fried rice with the orange chicken. As I waited, she offered me some fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce and hot mustard. A nice gesture as I waited. The wontons were good..I mean I'm not sure what Greg B. expected from just tiny pieces of fried dough...but they were a nice little crunchy snack. The waitress that was behind the bar was very nice to me, made small talk and was nice to other customers as I observed her interactions. Sitting there for about 15 minutes or so, I notice that MANY take-out orders came in over the phone...and many individuals walked in to pick up as I was there (many of them ordered General Tso's Chicken...maybe we will get that another time). Onto the food... I TOTALLY agree with Suzanne...the Orange Chicken was GREAT! Very lightly breaded...all white meat and just really really tasty! The Garlic Eggplant was also super great especially over brown rice YUM! My husband and I would for sure go back there! Mm mm mm! I miss Chinese Food takeout/delivery from NYC. I was a bit skeptical when the suggestion came up for "good chinese". But heck, I'll try anything once. I didn't spend much time looking at the menu. I figured there had to be an option for "broccoli chicken" and... there was! Adding brown rice for two meals cost $1. (I did look to see if they had a "healthy menu". Alas, no. There didn't seem to be steamed options for veges or chicken.) We called and were told "fifteen minutes". True to their word our food was waiting for us on time. The restaurant was brightly lit and the employees were super, duper chipper. (No time to check out the bar!) The portion sizes for a meal are enormous. It's quite possible to have two serving sizes (at least for a woman) out of a meal. I thoroughly enjoyed my broccoli chicken, as well as the "two twin flavor chicken" I fork sampled. In addition for the usual fortune cookies Dao Kitchen threw in something unusual. I'll have to return to update this. I have a photo but not the name. It was a a room temperature fried wonton covered with honey. Inside was something sweet. I still don't know what to make of it, but I ate it! Our two meals with tax came to $24.59 I enjoyed this experience and food. Unbelievable customer service with plenty of smiles. read more

Had take out Sunday afternoon. On the positive side, the meals were ready upon arrival and hot. On the negative side, the food was so salty that it could hardly be eaten. We ended up throwing 3/4 of it away due to the over salting. I know the use of soy sauce and other flavorings add to the sodium content but this was ridiculous. Also, the fried rice didn't have that charred tang like you typically get with Cantonese style cooking. The noodles did have a little but again the salt killed the taste. Went there with my mom right before practice. We got 2 orders of potstickers (pan fried), broccoli beef, and one side of fried rice. Amazing food! The staff was very sweet and lovely. You get six potsticers per order and they are decently sized (plus the sauce that comes with it is to die for). The broccoli beef was pretty good, the veggies were a tad bit over cooked and the meet was a little tough, but it still tasted good. Their potstickers were exceptionally amazing. The fried rice was a decent size, it tasted good and even better with soy sauce. I now go to this restaurant about 2 times a month and my mom and I love this place and we continue to order the postickers with a larger portion of fried rice and it fills us completely up. When the soup came, we asked that they heat it up more, and they bent over backwards to make it right with a free plate of yummy crab puffs.
