Stunning views and fantastic wines! Daou vineyard sits on top of a hill which provides incredible 360 views of the valley which acts as a perfect background while enjoying a flight of wine. I tend to gravitate towards reds, but their Chardonnay was the highlight of the flight to me. It was crisp, refreshing, and not overly buttery. My partner loved the Cabernet sauvignon! If we come back to Paso Robles we'd definitely try to make it back to Daou. read more

I think this is a must visit winery when you are in the Paso Robles area because they are located on the top of the mountain with a beautiful view of the area and vineyards. I also visited Austin Hope and Justin (separate reviews), but this is the must go. Make sure you make a reservation for the visit and they have some nice snack/lunch items that will go really well with their wine or their wine flights. Other than staying at the winery, we also tried out the Patrimony Immersion. While it is expensive (~$275/person), it is well worth it. The have a sommelier walk you through the whole area and also drive you down to the vineyards and cellar to try some of their top wines. The whole experience ends with a 3-course lunch including caviar and their most current Patrimony releases, which retail at about $300 to 400 a bottle. The whole experience was very personal and only up to 6 people at a given time. There's a total of about 8 different wines tried, Daou Rose to start. Then from the barrel, Soul of the Lion, Patrimony Cab Franc, and Patrimony. This is a 5+ star location with some of the most amazing views in the region. Wine: For whites check out the 2022 Estate Sauv Blanc. Great grapefruit, lemongrass and basil nose with passionfruit, lemon zest and key lime pie flavors. You can't go wrong with any of their reds but the standout for us was the 2021 Estate Cab Sauv with raspberry, cranberry, blackberry and tobacco aromas and touch of mineral. Flavors of blueberry, cherry, strawberry plus toasted nuttiness and mocha. Superior food options. We recommend their over the top cheese and charcuterie offering. Service was excellent. This is a must visit in Paso! Elika absolutely made it the best first visit for us. Recommend making the 11 am reservation to have lunch here. We came and had plenty of parking and seating options. Otherwise you would park in the lower lot and use the shuttle to come up (by 12:30 pm it was packed and cars were turned at the roundabout to park lower). We were seated inside. They had heated options outside with coverings and space heaters, but we chose a spot by the fireplace and windows. Elika provided us details and stories behind each tasting (~$50 pp). Lunch was perfection with beef tartare, pork, and scallops (~$110). We had an extra pour to walk around the property and talk about the 360 view! There were various wooden chairs to enjoy. Don't miss going down the amphitheater with additional seating. Luckily we had a blanket but it was windy and chilly and patio seatings were still damp with recent rain. Let's start with the drive there. We drove from Morro Bay to Paso Robles and lemme tell you, it was a very windy and horrid drive- to the point where I thought there could be nothing to make this drive worth it. We arrived around 2pm and were greeted with a tasting of their rosé. Beautiful facility and beautiful views forsure and I thought the rose was a delightful welcome. After being greeted by our server Yosh, my mood flipped from being grumpy to being intrigued and happy. He really took care of us and made us feel warm and welcome! He was very knowledgeable and made our long and dreadful drive worth it. I've been wanting to visit Daou for a long time and it truly exceeded my expectation. It's unfortunate to hear other tables ask for a specific wine and get it served.. and then ask for the same one myself and be told it's unavailable. Not sure if it's a company flaw or wine advisor flaw. Either way, not the way i would have liked my, 10th or so, experience to go. DAOU winery is a must stop for us and has the most beautiful views in Paso Robles. The winery is a lovely building high in the mountains. There are plenty of tables and seating on multiple levels outside overlooking the rolling hills, vineyards and scenery. Tasting is $50 a person and includes 5 wines. The Chardonnay and rose were my favorites. They also have a pretty extensive lunch menu. We ordered the lamb with hummus and sea bass. Both dishes were excellent with the lamb being the standout. Our wine educator William was very knowledgeable and friendly. He went into detail about the winemaking and background of the vineyards. Highly recommend. read more

Gorgeous winery that I have never been able to get into! A friend who is a member was able to get us a tasting in Saturday afternoon and Cooper was our waiter. How do I NOT come back here! One of the best wineries in Paso Robles, CA. You want to an experience for your eyes and tastebuds? Go here! I have been here before and love this place. Along with wine tasting...please order the food...it is a perfect compliment to the wines they offer and they have an amazing variety of food to eat and enjoy with your wine. The views up here are amazing, so couple it with some badass wine, and food and you just want to be here for hours! Rubin was our server and he was so helpful and so informative in giving us the full lay out of the wines and took very good care of us. As members we got the complimentary tasting and some food. If you can do it, get the scallops. They are to die for -- esp with the early white wine tastings and then we finished with a pizza (they offer on the weekends) with the reds. Daou is picturesque!!! We made reservations a couple weeks before coming and the only time was a 10am reservation, which is early for wine tasting in my opinion but we made it work! Getting there early had the perk of finding parking right by the front entrance and getting to walk around a bit before our tasting. Once inside we were greeted and given our first glass which was a Rosé. Our table area was inside which was cozy and nice especially since it was still a bit chilly outside. Laura our wine expert was very friendly and had great knowledge behind each wine. Each wine flight cost $50 a person. My faves were the Chardonnay and Reserve falcon. That Chardonnay was the best one I've ever had!! Very crisp and fruity . For food we got the bread and sea salt butter which was really delicious. We got to walk around a bit more in between trying our different wines and the scenery is just breathtaking! We want to come back when the weather is a bit warmer and we can sit outside. read more

After spending a week in Napa Valley in June, we took our trip south to Paso Robles, one of my wife's favorite regions. While there, we had the pleasure of visiting DAOU Vineyards. Finding the Vineyard, perched a top a hill, was a bit tricky because they were remodeling the entrance. I imagine they are building something grand to go along with the rest of the facilities. They were very organized and had sent us a email with good instructions. Once we arrived they had us park in a nearby area with a tent and wait for one of their vehicles to take us up to the facility. They facilities are very accommodating and the views are fantastic. It was morning and the sky were clear and the temperatures were still cool. I had reserved two different tastings. They took us to a nice table outside with a great view. The service was friendly and efficient. Our wine host was very friendly and knowledgeable of the DAOU wines and the industry as a whole. I mentioned to him that we had another tasting schedule for later, and we agree that he will host both. He was a great host and took care of us for the several hours we stayed. We were able to taste a few wine that were off the menu options as well, which we appreciated greatly. We order some food to go along with the tastings, and everything was delicious. From the Octopus, the salads to the flatbread, everything was to our liking. We highly recommend you visit DAOU vineyards if you are in Paso Robles. My recent experience at DAOU was deeply disappointing and left me walking away from a long-anticipated visit completely deflated. While the location is undeniably beautiful, the service and handling of our lunch fell far below what one would expect from a place of this caliber. I had a specific dietary concern and asked our server if the beet salad (which included pickled and roasted beets) could be customized or at least sampled beforehand due to a sensitivity to spice. He said he'd check with the chef and took my partner's steak order (medium-rare) in the meantime. He returned with a sample of pickled beets, which were indeed too spicy for me, so I opted for the steak (medium-well) instead. Oddly, despite saying I didn't want the salad, the server brought it anyway and said it was "on the house." The salad included two kinds of beets--only one of which I'd sampled. I considered switching my order back to the salad, but told the server not to cancel my steak because I do not believe in wasting food, especially when it involves an animal's life. Then came the bigger issue: my partner's steak arrived, but mine didn't. The server admitted he'd placed that order first and said mine was "on the way." That didn't make sense for a medium-well steak, and sure enough, mine came out just minutes later--completely undercooked (medium-rare). I flagged the issue immediately and requested it be cooked more, even suggesting it be butterflied to speed it up. Fifteen minutes later, a brand-new steak arrived. My original had clearly been thrown out--despite my clear wishes not to waste food. The server shrugged and gave a flat, generic apology. By that point, my appetite was gone, and so was my mood. We skipped the rest of our wine tasting and asked for the check. And to top it all off--we were still charged full price for everything (minus the salad I originally declined). No offer of compensation or acknowledgment that anything had gone wrong. We came to DAOU excited to enjoy a beautiful, relaxing afternoon. Instead, we left disappointed, upset, and in a sour mood--so much so it even sparked an argument between my partner and me. It's hard to enjoy the view when the hospitality doesn't match it. DAOU Vineyards/Family Estates has the best vineyards and views among hundreds of tasting rooms/wineries/vineyards in Paso Robles! Their tasting fee may be on the higher end for Paso Robles area but still less than some of the best tasting rooms from competing California wine countries like Napa Valley! Their food menu looked amazing, and we ordered the scallops to share. The presentation of the scallops was beautiful! Amazing tasting experience at Daou vineyard assuming you can snag a reservation. If the weather is nice, you'll be treated to a sweeping view of the hills while you a sip on a fine selection (my favorite was the Chemin de Fleurs). I've visited a few times and always enjoyed the beautiful views and great atmosphere. However, during my last visit, I had a less-than-ideal experience. I brought a spread of snacks to pair with wine, and while setting it up, the server came by twice--once to bring water--without mentioning that outside food wasn't allowed. Only after everything was set up did we learn it wasn't permitted due to codes and regulations. I understand this isn't the server's fault, and she was just following the rules. However, there were multiple chances to inform us earlier--when we arrived with bags of food or while setting up. I also checked the website and building for signs but didn't see any notice about outside food being prohibited. For those planning a visit, be aware that outside food isn't allowed, even though many people associate wineries with picnicking. Clearer communication about this policy would be helpful. I would highly recommend visiting here if you are planning on going wine tasting in the area! It is definitely one of the nicer wine tasting experiences and requires a reservation ahead of time, they typically book two weeks out. Our host was extremely attentive to us and knowledgeable about the winery which really made the experience. I enjoyed learning about the history of the winery and how the family was the first to grow new varietals in the region. The wines were exceptional with our favorite being the micho and eye of the falcon. We liked them so much that we ended up joining the wine club which waived the tasting fee. Of course, it's $275 a bottle, so I have good taste. We joined the Wine Club. It may be a little pretentious, but I can try to be. So beautiful and memorable! We reserved our tasting at DAOU weeks in advance, which I highly recommend doing because this place is so popular. The only time slot we could get was 10:30 AM, so we snagged it. We were impressed even before entering the winery, with the gorgeous views of the vineyards and rolling hills from the parking lot. Once we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and a glass of the DAOU Reserve Rose. We were seated on the patio (more stunning views from here), which was dog-friendly and well decorated with cabanas and large umbrellas for shade. Our host Gabe took great care of us throughout the tasting and I genuinely enjoyed every wine we tried. The tasting included five wines, but Gabe hooked us up with an extra round, which ended up being our favorite. DAOU also had a small food menu, so we couldn't resist ordering the Cheese & Charcuterie Board. The pricing was on the higher end ($50 for the board) but it was large enough to split between our group of 7. I didn't try the charcuterie but all four of the cheeses were excellent. I want to provide some feedback on our recent visit to your winery. To put it bluntly, the welcome was terrible. There was a guard near the entrance who, when we arrived, immediately told us we had no reservation and therefore couldn't taste anything. I said, "Okay, I've driven 45 minutes with three kids to get here." When I went to adjust my car, the guard even said I wasn't allowed to park temporarily because we didn't have a reservation. I mean, I couldn't even back up for two minutes to give my kids a drink of water and figure things out. I was told I wasn't allowed to stand there. I am writing this review with deep disappointment after more than ten years as a loyal member and supporter of DAOU Vineyards. Since their very first year, my family and I have visited annually--celebrating milestones, introducing friends to their wines, and investing thousands of dollars over the years. What kept us coming back was not just the wine, but the remarkable hospitality, warmth, and respect that once defined the DAOU experience. Unfortunately, our recent visit--our first under the new ownership--was unlike anything we've ever encountered at DAOU, and it has ultimately led me to end my membership. Despite having a reservation, my family was first seated indoors. When we requested to be moved outside, we were placed directly in front of a loud band--an environment completely unsuitable for my elderly in-laws (88 and 70 years old) and our three-month-old baby. When we asked for accommodation, including the simple request of adding one extra chair, we were met with resistance rather than hospitality. The attitude of the manager was especially troubling: unprofessional, dismissive, and more focused on shutting down the conversation than helping resolve it. This level of treatment was shocking, especially considering that just a week prior I had purchased over $1,200 in wine--adding to the significant amount I have spent over the years as a committed member. What once felt like a relationship of mutual appreciation now feels one-sided. There is no shortage of excellent wines at the price point DAOU offers. What once set DAOU apart was the sense of community, the care shown to long-time members, and the genuine hospitality that made every visit memorable. Sadly, that spirit seems to be fading. It is with real sadness that, after more than a decade, I have decided to end my association with DAOU Vineyards. I hope the new leadership takes this feedback seriously, because without a commitment to customer care, the legacy built over so many years risks being lost. read more
