After spending a week in Napa Valley in June, we took our trip south to Paso Robles, one of my wife's favorite regions. While there, we had the pleasure of visiting DAOU Vineyards. Finding the Vineyard, perched a top a hill, was a bit tricky because they were remodeling the entrance. I imagine they are building something grand to go along with the rest of the facilities. They were very organized and had sent us a email with good instructions. Once we arrived they had us park in a nearby area with a tent and wait for one of their vehicles to take us up to the facility. They facilities are very accommodating and the views are fantastic. It was morning and the sky were clear and the temperatures were still cool. I had reserved two different tastings. They took us to a nice table outside with a great view. The service was friendly and efficient. Our wine host was very friendly and knowledgeable of the DAOU wines and the industry as a whole. I mentioned to him that we had another tasting schedule for later, and we agree that he will host both. He was a great host and took care of us for the several hours we stayed. We were able to taste a few wine that were off the menu options as well, which we appreciated greatly. We order some food to go along with the tastings, and everything was delicious. From the Octopus, the salads to the flatbread, everything was to our liking. We highly recommend you visit DAOU vineyards if you are in Paso Robles. Great wines, great people and service, great views, and most of all a great to relax and enjoy yourself. read more

My recent experience at DAOU was deeply disappointing and left me walking away from a long-anticipated visit completely deflated. While the location is undeniably beautiful, the service and handling of our lunch fell far below what one would expect from a place of this caliber. I had a specific dietary concern and asked our server if the beet salad (which included pickled and roasted beets) could be customized or at least sampled beforehand due to a sensitivity to spice. He said he'd check with the chef and took my partner's steak order (medium-rare) in the meantime. He returned with a sample of pickled beets, which were indeed too spicy for me, so I opted for the steak (medium-well) instead. Oddly, despite saying I didn't want the salad, the server brought it anyway and said it was "on the house." The salad included two kinds of beets--only one of which I'd sampled. I considered switching my order back to the salad, but told the server not to cancel my steak because I do not believe in wasting food, especially when it involves an animal's life. Then came the bigger issue: my partner's steak arrived, but mine didn't. The server admitted he'd placed that order first and said mine was "on the way." That didn't make sense for a medium-well steak, and sure enough, mine came out just minutes later--completely undercooked (medium-rare). I flagged the issue immediately and requested it be cooked more, even suggesting it be butterflied to speed it up. Fifteen minutes later, a brand-new steak arrived. My original had clearly been thrown out--despite my clear wishes not to waste food. The server shrugged and gave a flat, generic apology. By that point, my appetite was gone, and so was my mood. We skipped the rest of our wine tasting and asked for the check. And to top it all off--we were still charged full price for everything (minus the salad I originally declined). No offer of compensation or acknowledgment that anything had gone wrong. We came to DAOU excited to enjoy a beautiful, relaxing afternoon. Instead, we left disappointed, upset, and in a sour mood--so much so it even sparked an argument between my partner and me. It's hard to enjoy the view when the hospitality doesn't match it. This visit missed the mark entirely. read more

Daou is picturesque!!! We made reservations a couple weeks before coming and the only time was a 10am reservation, which is early for wine tasting in my opinion but we made it work! Getting there early had the perk of finding parking right by the front entrance and getting to walk around a bit before our tasting. Once inside we were greeted and given our first glass which was a Rosé. Our table area was inside which was cozy and nice especially since it was still a bit chilly outside. Laura our wine expert was very friendly and had great knowledge behind each wine. Each wine flight cost $50 a person. My faves were the Chardonnay and Reserve falcon. That Chardonnay was the best one I've ever had!! Very crisp and fruity . For food we got the bread and sea salt butter which was really delicious. We got to walk around a bit more in between trying our different wines and the scenery is just breathtaking! We want to come back when the weather is a bit warmer and we can sit outside. read more

Amazing tasting experience at Daou vineyard assuming you can snag a reservation. If the weather is nice, you'll be treated to a sweeping view of the hills while you a sip on a fine selection (my favorite was the Chemin de Fleurs). They keep the reservation to a limit so the grounds never appear to be too busy. Service was great and staff was very knowledgeable. I've visited a few times and always enjoyed the beautiful views and great atmosphere. However, during my last visit, I had a less-than-ideal experience. I brought a spread of snacks to pair with wine, and while setting it up, the server came by twice--once to bring water--without mentioning that outside food wasn't allowed. Only after everything was set up did we learn it wasn't permitted due to codes and regulations. I understand this isn't the server's fault, and she was just following the rules. However, there were multiple chances to inform us earlier--when we arrived with bags of food or while setting up. I also checked the website and building for signs but didn't see any notice about outside food being prohibited. For those planning a visit, be aware that outside food isn't allowed, even though many people associate wineries with picnicking. Clearer communication about this policy would be helpful. A beautiful setting for any occasion. Upon arrival we got a class of the rose. One of my favorite wines of the day. I did the wine flight and enjoyed the variety of options. We had a great server that was knowledgeable and attentive. When you buy 3 bottles, they waive the $50 tasting fee, so I got 3 bottles of the rose, which will be perfect throughout the rest of summer. read more

DAOU Vineyards/Family Estates has the best vineyards and views among hundreds of tasting rooms/wineries/vineyards in Paso Robles! Their tasting fee may be on the higher end for Paso Robles area but still less than some of the best tasting rooms from competing California wine countries like Napa Valley! Their food menu looked amazing, and we ordered the scallops to share. The presentation of the scallops was beautiful! The entree paired well with one of the wines from the tasting menu and tasted delicious! They brought out blankets to us as it was a chilly fall morning. I thought that was a nice touch. read more

I would highly recommend visiting here if you are planning on going wine tasting in the area! It is definitely one of the nicer wine tasting experiences and requires a reservation ahead of time, they typically book two weeks out. Our host was extremely attentive to us and knowledgeable about the winery which really made the experience. I enjoyed learning about the history of the winery and how the family was the first to grow new varietals in the region. The wines were exceptional with our favorite being the micho and eye of the falcon. We liked them so much that we ended up joining the wine club which waived the tasting fee. I am writing this review with deep disappointment after more than ten years as a loyal member and supporter of DAOU Vineyards. Since their very first year, my family and I have visited annually--celebrating milestones, introducing friends to their wines, and investing thousands of dollars over the years. What kept us coming back was not just the wine, but the remarkable hospitality, warmth, and respect that once defined the DAOU experience. Unfortunately, our recent visit--our first under the new ownership--was unlike anything we've ever encountered at DAOU, and it has ultimately led me to end my membership. Despite having a reservation, my family was first seated indoors. When we requested to be moved outside, we were placed directly in front of a loud band--an environment completely unsuitable for my elderly in-laws (88 and 70 years old) and our three-month-old baby. When we asked for accommodation, including the simple request of adding one extra chair, we were met with resistance rather than hospitality. The attitude of the manager was especially troubling: unprofessional, dismissive, and more focused on shutting down the conversation than helping resolve it. This level of treatment was shocking, especially considering that just a week prior I had purchased over $1,200 in wine--adding to the significant amount I have spent over the years as a committed member. What once felt like a relationship of mutual appreciation now feels one-sided. There is no shortage of excellent wines at the price point DAOU offers. What once set DAOU apart was the sense of community, the care shown to long-time members, and the genuine hospitality that made every visit memorable. Sadly, that spirit seems to be fading. It is with real sadness that, after more than a decade, I have decided to end my association with DAOU Vineyards. I hope the new leadership takes this feedback seriously, because without a commitment to customer care, the legacy built over so many years risks being lost. read more

Literally, an unreal experience in every way. Loved. Loved. Loved. Amazingly picturesque, even from the parking lot. Then, the building, and the various places to sit outside, it's very impressive. Sitting on a hill, and surrounded by colorful flowers and bushes with vineyards all-over down below, and flowers -- wow. Barbara, our Educator, was amazing. So knowledgeable, so funny, so bright. She made the whole wine tasting day at Daou over-the-top. Amanda, the Membership Ambassador, introduced herself and poured us a tasting of Patrimony and it was the best cab I've ever had. Of course, it's $275 a bottle, so I have good taste. We joined the Wine Club. It may be a little pretentious, but I can try to be. 5+ stars for the property...it's truly exceptional and a must visit when in West Paso. It's the place I tell everyone that they have to experience at least once. As far as the tasting, I would say the pour is on the light side....they give you a "smidge" of each wine in the flight. Definitely not as generous in that regard as other area wineries. That has been my experience each time I've been. Indoors they have a wonderful fireplace...and at Christmas time a gorgeous tree. The views outside are unmatched and these views alone make it worth the trip. read more

So beautiful and memorable! We reserved our tasting at DAOU weeks in advance, which I highly recommend doing because this place is so popular. The only time slot we could get was 10:30 AM, so we snagged it. We were impressed even before entering the winery, with the gorgeous views of the vineyards and rolling hills from the parking lot. Once we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and a glass of the DAOU Reserve Rose. We were seated on the patio (more stunning views from here), which was dog-friendly and well decorated with cabanas and large umbrellas for shade. Our host Gabe took great care of us throughout the tasting and I genuinely enjoyed every wine we tried. The tasting included five wines, but Gabe hooked us up with an extra round, which ended up being our favorite. DAOU also had a small food menu, so we couldn't resist ordering the Cheese & Charcuterie Board. The pricing was on the higher end ($50 for the board) but it was large enough to split between our group of 7. I didn't try the charcuterie but all four of the cheeses were excellent. After our tasting, we purchased some bottles and took a walk around the grounds. The views were beautiful and there were plenty of photo ops. Would happily return! read more

My wife is a Daou wine member, and she made an appointment for 8/23/2025 1:30pm for celebrating our friend's anniversary. There are 4 of us , we brought our wine friends hoping they will also join the Daou wine club with us after this tasting experience. Maybe because we drove a Mercedes Sprinter RV, we got stock in traffic from LA (5 1/2 hour drive) We arrived at 2:45pm and was stopped at gate. The security verified our name and appointment time, and said because we were late, We only ALLOW to go in under one condition, "open a bottle" instead of doing regular membership tasting. We always buy wines after our tasting. We do not need to be patronized with such commend. "NO thanks" So we turned around and left, Not to disappoint our friends, We made a stop at Austin Hope. My wife is also a member of Justin and they took us in without appointment (there was a Justin/Austin Hope membership event) We had a great time doing wine tasting in Austin Hope. From the moment we entered the property, we were mesmerized by the view the ranch-like house, the gardens and overall seating areas with the nice breeze. The wine tasting was wonderful, although we would have loved more insights about the crops, how/when etc etc the know how to prepare wine . The cheese/hams table was exquisite, recommended. Similarly, the NY steak with pommes puree with greens like spinach was excellent. The roasted lamb chops were slightly under cooked for my taste, while the salad with pomegranate was surprisingly a touch of setting the salad apart. My husband and I went on a short notice this Saturday 9/06 for our wine pickup. We were told no available reservations for wine tasting because of the event happening that evening. So , ok we will just sit at the bar and order a bottle and some food. We were graciously seated and yup the staff are pretty busy. Here comes Orianna to take care of us. We were expecting the minimum knowing it was a busy Saturday. But , Orianna made us comfortable and offered a wine tasting beyond and above our expectations. As a huge fan of Daou wine, I was super excited to check out the winery. It did not disappoint: beautiful grounds, amazing wine and super friendly and accommodating staff. Plenty of different options to choose from when it comes to the wine tasting/tours. I would recommend making reservations, especially if you come during the weekend. They have a full food menu with something for everyone (not too many options to choose from but it was absolutely perfect). You do get a complimentary glass of rose upon arrival, which was delicious and refreshing. The view is breathtaking so the majority of sitting is outside so you can fully immerse in this amazing experience. Left this place conflicted. Upon arrival, the staff were very lukewarm. They weren't rude by any means, but it was also apparent they weren't too happy to be there. This also goes for the server helping us throughout our tasting. The whole tasting felt very commercial. Not much knowledge given, just a quick mentioning of what is being poured and walking away. The wines were good but not great, yet I don't think that's a huge deal because wine is very personal and all palettes are different. The tasting prices here are a bit higher, but that's what you get when the DAOU brand sells for a billion dollars. Now, the saving grace is the most obvious point, the view. After the tasting, we bought a couple glasses of wine and went outside to enjoy the wine and take in the scenery. This was where DAOU excels, taking advantage of their premier property. I can't lie, we will definitely be back. However, we will skip the tastings, buy a couple glasses or a bottle of wine, and enjoy the view outside. read more

Daou is a must-visit for wine lovers! I went with four girlfriends just before Christmas, and we had an amazing time. The stunning views, delicious charcuterie board, and fantastic wines made it unforgettable. We loved it so much we took home five bottles of the 2011 Cab Reserve and one bottle of Patrimony and 2 bottles Edna Valley Pinot Noir. Highly recommend! read more

Wow, just wow...from the mountain top views (framed on all sides by flowers of every type and color), slowly emerging from the morning mist, as if on cue...to the exquisite food pairings (fresh Morro Bay oysters, artisanal breads with specialty butter, as well as locally-sourced corse-cut melt-in-your-mouth steak tartare), to the fine flight of whites and near-perfect reds, all professionally served and expertly timed by our extremely personable and knowledgeable host named Gabe...a stunning experience.
