I came here for lunch one day and then for breakfast the next day and this place is worth coming back to over and over again. They are known for their breakfast and I can confirm that it is delicious. They also have yummy pastries in a case by the register that you can purchase and take with you when you leave. Ok so you know how someone you know or several people see a movie & everyone absolutely raves about it you go with so much excitement and anticipation & then are majorly let down ? This best explains our not once but twice dining experience at Darbi's cafe. My family & I we're told by several friends and locals that this is the must go place so naturally we had to come. We went in and there was a small wait no big deal as to be expected for a place with such high recommendations and COVID distancing. I'll start with the pros of this place, very cute decor warm welcoming feel. The hot coco first day was amazing ! Prices seem reasonable and portions are generous. Now onto the cons, the service is extremely slow and people weren't very friendly not rude or anything by any means. Our first visit I ordered off the healthy menu option, Big mistake ! the food was just bland and soggy if your gonna go just don't try to be healthy. I sat there till they finally came to bring bill and the waitress looked at the dish and said oh was it not good? I said no it just wasn't what I thought it would be & smiled. I was going to order something else but my husband and mother in law gave me some of theirs the portions were generous so I filled up just fine. We all had the egg croissant sandwich which again the first day was very tasty ! The quality of food & inconsistency would be my biggest complaint, example the hot coco the first day was Amazing !!! Not the case for our second visit same goes for the side of potatoes on day 1 my mil ordered the egg sand which which was delicious ! The next visit I ordered that and it tasted nothing like the first day. So yes the food is good depending on I guess who the cooks it ? We had gone back after our first visit only because I thought it had to just have been an off day given the recommendations and high marks. What a quaint, homey, charming cafe, decorated like a Grandma's cabin in the woods, and serving food even Grandma couldn't make taste this good. If I lived here, this would be one of two breakfast spots I'd frequent, with emphasis on frequent. My brother went all out and enjoyed chicken fried steak, hash browns, and biscuits and gravy, declaring all of them delicious. I ordered bananas foster French toast. There was too much cinnamon for my taste buds, and it was over-the-top sweet, so I'd try something different next time. However, don't let that scare you away if you LOVE sweet breakfast food. The bread was fluffy and cut thicker than any French toast I've ever had. Minus some of the cinnamon, it likely would have been some of the best bread I've ever had. Tea was overpriced at $2.29 for the same kind of generic black tea they serve with breakfast at the local hotels (which costs a tad over $1 per box, not bag--some serious mark-up!). Service was stellar, bathrooms and dining area were clean, and I left lamenting the fact that I don't live anywhere near here. Good place to go to get breakfast. We've been here twice this week. Our experience: Great: Omlettes, wheat pancakes, biscuit So So: Huevo's Rancheros (no zing, no potatoes), Biscuits and gravy were served room temperature (at best) and when I asked for them to be reheated, they were warm and not hot. Coffee was pretty standard stuff (I like good coffee and it's a big part of how I choose a breakfast place). Very popular place. Unless you like to wait, avoid it on weekends or holidays. read more

I had a very good breakfast here on a lovely Saturday morning (7/30/11). This place is extremely popular, especially on weekends. You will have to wait for a table if you get to breakfast/brunch past 9 AM. (My wait at 10:15 AM was about 15-20 minutes.) Atmosphere and Service: Darbi's has quite a few birdhouses for decor. Think about your grandmother's or great aunt's house... same feeling here. The service is a rushed on weekends, but you, the customer, never feel rushed and your coffee cup will always stay full. Speaking of coffee, it's hot, but it will not burn your tongue. Lots of regular and flavored creamers and all the different types of sweeteners you could ever want. I had the blueberry pancakes with one scrambled egg. The pancakes were huge and the fresh blueberries made the cakes amazing. The real maple syrup didn't hurt either. The food is good and very much the definition of "home cooking." I think Darbi's is about the quality I could produce in my own kitchen, but it is very nice to not clean dishes after eating. They are quick to bring waters, refills, condiments, etc. Lunch or dinner here, I can take or leave. I got soup and a salad bar, and the food was good but nothing to write home about. I found the prices reasonable. Breakfast is where it's at. My boyfriend didn't care for Darbi's; he described the food as heavy and expensive. But this really isn't the kind of place you go if you're looking for a light breakfast. They have large portions and use extra large eggs in their omelettes. We shared the Cajun prime rib omelette, and man, it was delicious and nothing like any other breakfast I've had. We added asparagus to it as well. Yes, it was heavy, but this was the kind of breakfast you want to start off a long day of hiking or skiing (Let your food settle first!). Darbi's has a variety of good breakfast options, pancakes, waffles, all the classics, along with some inventive benedicts and omelettes. Went in for lunch around 11:30. We've driven by the place many times and it's always packed so we thought we would stop in for a quick bite. Seated immediately although they looked busy. Proceeded to wait 10 mins for our drinks. Drinks came then another 10-15 mins before the waiter returned for our orders. I get it, they are busy. The wait wouldn't have been so bad if not for the temperature of the dining area. I'm typically a cold person but even I was starting to sweat. It was muggy and humid and no air moving at all. Makes for a very uncomfortable dining experience. We decided quickly that was likely why the outdoor patio area was entirely full. So our food order is finally placed and it comes within a reasonable amount of time. I ordered the Californian burger and my boyfriend had the french dip. Disappointed in the quality of both. Nothing special honestly. Their food is more to "feed the masses" and not really anything you take a bite of and say I need this in my life and will be back for more. I will say their potato salad is clearly homemade and is delicious. As far as my burger, it was underseasoned and overcooked. My boyfriend said his sandwich was bland as well. We went to Darbi's for breakfast and wasn't disappointed. The wait was about 20 minutes which wasn't bad for the week of the 4th of July which is the busiest of the year. We were seated out on the patio which was perfect as we want to be outside as much as possible with the perfect cool weather. We ordered a scramble, chocolate chip pancakes and bacon and a half order of biscuits and gravy. The 1/2 order is more than enough as the biscuits are a mile high. Very light and fluffy. This is now my favorite breakfast place in town. Everyone here is so nice and the wait during busy breakfast hours was 25 minutes. Well worth the wait. Plenty of tables to handle a lot of people, parking is limited however. My wife and I got the southern benedict and it's one of the best benedicts we've ever had! Sweet yet spicy. We have a large family with kids so our table can be difficult to handle at times but she was around our table many times and saw us on the way out and stopped to make sure we had all we needed. There's a reason why cars are parked all over the place and people are waiting outside for a table. The food is amazing and the service is always top notch. I've been to Darbi's quite a few times over the years and have never been disappointed. Be it breakfast, lunch or dinner you will find something to satisfy your palette. The patio that was added last year was a great addition that allows you to enjoy the cooler weather in the summer months. I also believe they have one of the best soup/salad bars in all of AZ! The desserts are all homemade and are oh so good (a single cinnamon roll could feed a small army). I could go on and on but the reviews speak for themselves. Decided to try take out for breakfast which is always a risk from any restaurant, anywhere and at anytime. First off dine in was an option as many were eating in. Staff that I saw all had on masks and seating appeared to be set at a good distance. As with many establishments these days enforcement of mask wearing wasn't apparent as about 70% of the people waiting for a table came in maskless. Those people, definitely from separate parties, chose to ignore mask wearing and social distancing. Now for the food, again keeping in mind take-out. I had an omelet with ham, asparagus and provolone cooked to perfection! Raisin toast and the potato cakes. Potato cakes were interesting blend of scallions, sweet corn kernels, yellow onions and potatoes from what I could taste. All ok. Nothing spectacular. Second dish was the Alaskan Eggs Benedict. Poached eggs sitting tend to harden if not eaten right away. The hollandaise wasn't lemon forward flavored enough for our tastes but ok. Grits accompanied the Benedict which had some clumping bits. Had a late dinner the day we arrived and from the great reviews on Yelp I decided we should try Darbi's. We ordered pickup do to Covid-19 regulations. I ordered the Monte Cristo with Fries. It was perfect! It came with boysenberry syrup to dip it in. It was kind of like breakfast and dinner combined with the French toast sandwich filled with ham and gooey Swiss cheese. Hubby got the turkey pot pie. Wow! Such flakey buttery golden brown top crust with big chunks of turkey, carrots and rich gravy. It came with fries, cup of chicken noodle soup, and small side salad. We were so impressed we ordered breakfast the next morning, Denver omelette, spinach, mushroom and American cheese omelette. Hubby got hash browns and English muffin. I got potato cake and pancakes with boysenberry syrup. Unfortunately during hubby's trip back to our cabin the syrup container top came off slightly and leaked inside my spinach omelette container. But it still tasted great, I just know it would have been even better without syrup on my omelette and potato cake. The omelettes were packed full with all the yummy fillings we'd ordered. We both were so full we couldn't eat the English muffin or pancakes. The sides were included with the omelettes, didn't have to pay extra for them. So you always get a LOT of really good food for your money! Ordered yet again for dinner. Hey, no judgement here, I mean why try someplace else when you hit the pot of gold! Chicken Ranch wrap filled with chunks of chicken, crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. I got sweet potato fries this time. Oh so yummy!!!! And wrap was huge! Could only eat 1/2. Hubby ordered the BBQ pork sandwich, shredded pork and bbq sauce on a brioche bun. He got curly fries. Unfortunately they forgot to put the side of coleslaw in, but not holding it against them. The sandwich was not drenched in bbq sauce like many places do, rather just the perfect ratio meat and sauce. So perhaps we should have gone for breakfast and maybe it would be five stars. We went in for a summer dinner and was overlooked at the hostess area for several minutes even after I asked if there was open seating? No line, no wait. So rough start. Then we had several waiters. I felt they were trying to piece together service for our table. Shift change perhaps? The server to finally land on our table was great and made up for the rocky start. He was extremely attentive and shame on me for not recalling his name. Food was plentiFUL but long to wait for. I enjoyed the ambiance and the decor. So fitting for the geographical location and family-oriented which is always appreciated. We certainly will go back and will absolutely try the breakfast. Overall this place is worth a second shot.
